“The broader male sucked in a breath. Then said something in that language she couldn’t comprehend. The brunette at his side snapped something back that sounded like a reprimand.”
Note: The color of these tulips probably isn’t significant. This was just a fun thing to look into.
In ACOTAR (page 256), we see that Elain has some tulips from the continent in her garden below a window, at the chateau. They happen to be purple and white.
Tulips in general: Perfect/Deep Love. Rebirth. Charity.
Purple Tulips: Symbolizes royalty. Used in bridal bouquets.
White Tulips: Forgiveness, respect, purity and honour. Dreaming about white tulips can symbolize a new journey or a fresh start in life.
And then we get this lovely image of Nessian and Elriel with this same garden.
“Cassian and Azriel on either side of the bay windows where Elain and Nesta stood in their finery, Elain’s garden in bloom behind them.”(acomaf 547-548)
The symbolism of these tulips fit pretty well with both couples. And also with Elain herself.
It’s also another tie in to the Elain/Azriel/window/garden parallel too.
Thinking about the amethyst curtains at the Night Court today.
Which, by the way, is a royal residence (purple is a historically royal color). And how Elain wears amethyst for both Solstices, during which she has private encounters with Azriel. Not to mention how Nesta wore amethyst when she and Cassian meet for the first time.
Once Cassian taught her to surf, Nesta fell in love. The crash of waves beat the same tune as her heart. The sea flowed through her veins. Selected as a wild card for the 2019 Pipemasters, Nesta can think of nothing else. Every day she practices for the competition that could win her world-wide fame and recognition, riding waves as soon as the sun comes up.
Cassian hadn’t expected the girl he fought with as a young boy to become one of the best surfers on the island. He had been slowly falling for her the past two years, until he was so hopelessly in love he was sure Nesta could tell. The pair compete with one another every day in whatever they do. He wants to travel the world and surf, sponsored by one of the big companies.
With the competition drawing near, will Nesta and Cassian ride the dangerous waves of love or drown beneath them?

The wave crested and she dropped to catch the entrance to the tunnel. Standing up, she let her fingertips brush the tunnel wall, water flowing and falling thunderously in her wake.
Without a warning, the great wave of water crashed onto her head and sent her down. Caught under the wave, Nesta couldn’t surface to breathe. Growing more frantic by the second as she lost air, she tried to swim for the surface.
She saw the sunlight streaming through the foam left by the previous wave. She saw the shadow of the coming wave, screaming until salt water burned her throat.
“Cold power rippled toward them, and as it hit, Cassian let it surge past him, around him, yielded himself to it. Because to stand against it would be to provoke the Mask’s wrath. To stand against it would be to stand against Death itself.
“I have no regrets in my life, but this. That we did not have time. That I did not have time with you, Nesta. I will find you in the next world - the next life. And we will have that time. I promise.”
Cassian said to her, “Nothing can harm you here.” He sucked in a breath, groaning softly, and rose to his feet. Azriel tried to stop him, but Cassian brushed him off and strode for my sister’s side. He braced a hand on the desk when he at last stopped. “Nothing can harm you,” he repeated.
Nesta was still looking at him when she finally shut her eyes. I shifted, and the angle allowed me to see what I hadn’t detected before.
Nesta stood before the map, a fist of bones and stones clenched over it. Cassian remained at her side—his other hand on her lower back.
And I marveled at the touch she allowed—marveled at it as much as I did the mud-splattered hand she held out. The concentration that settled over her face.
Her eyes shifted beneath their lids, as if scanning the world. “I don’t see anything.”
“Go deeper,” Amren urged. “Find that tether between you.”
She stiffened, but Cassian stepped closer, and she settled again.
But it is pretty funny that one strong season of pollen could take out both Cassian and Nesta without even trying. Nesta can conquer death and Cassian can walk beside death all his life, but they’re no match for pollen.
when cassian is telling nesta about the snowball fight and he stops mid sentence saying “remind me to take you there one day” about the cabin… god I love him
