I hope you’re doing well, and you’re being safe, wearing masks and getting vaccinated. I hope the pandemic is slowing down wherever you are.
In my country the situation is getting worse, we’re facing a third wave and losing people every day.
We’re going through a big Oxygen crisis. Hospitals are full and aren’t admitting any new patients, and discharging patients even tho they aren’t recovered. Patients are asked to buy, rent or borrow oxygen therapy equipment and Oxygen concentrators for themselves even while they’re hospitalized at the hospitals, which is crazy, because hospitals can no longer provide them. My friend who is a surgeon told me that while they were performing a surgery on a patient, the oxygen was cut off. It’s scary!!
But that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that these oxygen machines have become really hard to find, and just a few weeks ago you could buy them for 10,000 DZD, now they are at 50,000 DZD, which is enormous, people are dying because of this.
That’s why the Algerian Medical Network is raising money to buy the necessary equipment from abroad to help save lives. I just couldn’t just sit there and not share this. Please, pardon me for the negative energy. But my people really need this.

However, as one of the oldest (now formerly) living vestiges of an empire whose systems, prejudices and corruptions are still alive and well–within Great Britain as well as globally–the late Duke of Edinburgh was a symbol of the bloated and overwrought stodgy system that waste(s/d) money like it’s going out of style. (Fun fact: While the British Empire’s territorial reach peaked in the 1920s [source] I have seen it argued that its actual economic/”strength” peak of influence seems to have been between 1870 and 1913.)
If I were to espouse on the legacy of the British Empire, we’d be here all day and I don’t have the time/energy for that. Nonetheless, I want to touch on things that are actively happening in Britain still: Passive historical revisionism (largely by omission) regarding the true scope and consequences of British imperialism, nationalism, and colonialism; and of course, the perpetuation (in no small part stemming from the cultural habit of understating things) of casual racism.

As for the casual racism? How about the active, systemic racism? Really, must we go over the entire debacle with Meghan Markle a g a i n ? Just because racism doesn’t manifest quite the same on a cultural level as it does in the United States, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The particular extra special insidious nature of British xenophobia is that, when it is not obvious, it is understated, toned down. The obvious shit in the US is already difficult enough to deal with because of centuries of gaslighting and ignorance, but Britain has its own brand of bigotries that often get ignored or brushed aside in the shadow of American drama. And it SHOULDN’T.
The best example of this is the referral to Prince Philip’s bullshit as “gaffes.”
Here’s the definition of “gaffe”:

Actually, fuck it, I’m tired. You get the whole shebang (if you’ll bother to read it) and I even did the legwork. Here’s some good reading I bothered to dig up regarding systemic abuse, racism, and other dumb bullshit surrounding the BRF, with a healthy dose of historical context.
Also here’s some interesting reads on things like the toxic masculinity of the Empire and its incompetency that stemmed from concepts of personal honor. And just general Empire history.
TL;DR: The BRF is an economic drain and an albatross on the future of the UK.
Don’t come at me saying I’m ~speaking ill of the dead~ and ~haven’t done my research~. Definitely don’t come at me like I’m ~hating~ on Brits either. I absolutely adore British history and I adore studying its culture, past and present (though I am hardly any kind of expert). It is because of that love that I have an obligation to observe not only the historical context, but also the less glamorous side of what that history and culture represent. Love may be blind, but in and of itself does not cause nor excuse blindness.
You, my dear Reader, are allowed to be proud of where you’re from–what really matters is what exactly you’re proud of, and how willing you are to try and understand what it all means.

I’ve been eating a mostly vegetarian diet for a couple weeks just out of my current food phase being veggie sandwiches… But today my body is suddenly crying out for a cheeseburger
My mental and physical health have been rapidly declining over the past couple of years. Working two stressful jobs, not knowing what’s wrong with me, and not getting my art noticed out there is taking its toll on me and I just feel like dying everyday.
Sigh. I’m tired. Sick and tired. I don’t know how much longer I can do this, man. I’m so depressed to the point that I can’t even cry anymore.
It’sthatbad, I know. Haha.
Anyway on a positive note, I’ve recently reached 1,800 followers and that really lifted my spirits! You guys are frickin’ awesome and I need to do another gift for y'all soon!
So here’s what I’m planning to do: Another followers gift. I think I want it to be something for kids (toddlers included) this time. Waddaya think? Feel free to send me some suggestions and ideas!

Currently working on: I’ve actually been taking a break for a little while now, like I said I would probably two months ago and didn’t. However, I went to Beamish Living Museum this weekend and all the old shops there really inspired me to get back into the Cottage Living shop conversions I was working on. I can’t promise these will be done quickly, though.

I try not to buy too much extra stuff, especially with clothes, both for fast fashion type reasons & since I don’t do much besides work there’s no point in collecting more clothing than I’d ever wear. but at the same time, with the new revival of 90s/2000s trends and the like… 90s interpretation of 70s revival lol, shopping for clothes is actually fun now :P
when the trend was neutrals and gray, I could never find anything I liked. but now I like almost everything cause it’s so colorfulllll! I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen so much pink clothing (my favorite color despite wearing black 90% of the time lol), or even having orange/yellow as an option, plus all the swirly/checkered/flowery/smiley face patterns ahh I love it lol
the insurance coverage for my top surgery was approved!! so now the hospital just has to call me to schedule the actual surgery date (I think). based on how it went with other people in my area, it might not even be much longer than 1 or 2 months from now!
