#performative activism

The worst takes on this website are the ones which are just recycled right wing, imperialist, cis white conservative rhetoric but with a woke/feminist/gay cap on it,and its scary how so many people here unironically repeat them during discource while condemning the same arguments if they are said by cishet white conservative people.

jonskory:

people will have BLM in their bios and yet be the first to resort to racist and anti black behavior the moment a black person tries to correct them. we’ll get branded as aggressive and uneducated. and there’s this assumption that we can’t be angry. that we have to be nice and hold non-blacks’ hands or some shit. it’s all very annoying

Me side-eying all the people still calling Scarlett Johansson “ScarJo” even though she’s emphatically said she hates that name:

YOU CAN’T EVEN GET A CIS WOMAN’S NAME RIGHT WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I’LL TRUST YOU TO TREAT TRANS PEOPLE CORRECTLY YA DING DONGS

Performative activism should warrant a punch in the face. For now, it deserves all the call-out action it needs. My Black life isn’t for you to use for clout or feel better about yourself. - jess

Yeah, the rioting was always theoretical. A fantasy entertained to sound cool, but rejected the moment it becomes more than a fantasy. It’s all ‘Stonewall was a riot’ and ‘remember these cool radicals who did cool shit’ until it’s time to put some actual skin in the game yourself and then anything impolite is a step too far.

defleftist:

Earth day got corporations out here performing environmental activism while shilling useless products that the environment would be better off without in the first place.

Happy Earth Day to all the earthlings and non earthlings alike. We’re very inclusive here.

Remember ladies and gentlemen this generation loves performative activism without actually doing anything themselves or for others.

Consumption isn’t a shortcut to character and morality goes well beyond fandom. That’s modern culture in a nutshell.

Consumption isn’t activism and we should be glad - because if consumption was activism, then your entire positive contribution to the world would be cancelled out by exactly one person having a different hobby.

Oh my God it’s like the internet never learns. Allow me to copy-paste from the last time I saw something like this:

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - the trick to disabling shit like this is to make your bogus calls indistinguishable from real ones. Don’t do cursed images and memes, do fake names and classes that never existed. Force them to waste ten minutes for every call you make, hunting down something that sounds real but ultimately yields no fruit. A cursed image takes two seconds to close, but a well-constructed phoney tip can take quite some time - time that is in turn taken away from pursuing actual tipoffs. Get enough people doing that, and suddenly they either burn their whole day chasing people who don’t exist, or they start to ignore legit tips in case they’re also bogus. And THAT’S how you kill a tip line.”

I struggle to take the ACLU seriously. This situation with Amber Heard simply made my distrust even stronger.

Long ago, they attacked Taylor Swift because her team sent cease and desist letters to a few fan artists breaking the law in regards to her work. One such artist, for anyone who might recall, was an ebay artist who was selling Taylor merch. Specifically, the artist was illegally printing Taylor’s signature on her own mass-produced Taylor-themed merch, and marketing everything as ’signed by Taylor’ so she could charge $$$ for basic things like white ceramic mugs with “Shake It Off” in gold Times New Roman on the front.

The ACLU was so quick to attack Taylor for stepping in, calling her a white feminist nazi, and ever since then they have felt nothing but performative to me. Maybe at some point they were legit but I was wary of them for quite some time and then to see them backing Amber Heard’s obvious bullshit not long after?

And even now when she hasn’t fulfilled her promises in regards to donations to them and charities all over? She’s done nothing but lie and lie and they’re out here still siding with her. What a joke.

No thanks. I don’t want it.
