#post plus

LIVE

ouat-in-spare-oom-of-rivendell:

In light of the recent PostPlus nonsense tumblr is trying to pull, here’s a reminder that monetization of fanfiction can lead you to legal trouble. On Ao3 it’s against the TOS to even mention any money-sending site at all because of the conditonal protection they offer.

Putting your entire fanfiction blog behind a paywall is like pointing a neon sign saying “please sue me”. I bring this up specifically because tumblr mentioned fanfiction in the post that they made and that is going to leave a lot of people misinformed.

Remember: Do NOT paywall your fanworks.

And rest assured, my blog will never be pay-to-read, even if this weren’t a fanfiction blog. I think the whole thing is ridiculous.

How would you guys feel about me putting up some exclusive poems using post+ I currently have exclusive poems for my Ko-Fi and I was thinking of setting it up on here too. But idk I could just keep it via Ko-Fi but figured it’s not like I have to pick just one, I could do both people have the option then.

Also if I did do Post+ what’s people’s thoughts on pricing? $2 a month? $3 maybe? Less? More? Let me know.

Just posted my first Post+ exclusive poem!! It’s $3.99 a month and I’m offering exclusive poems and other short writing content such as prose and maybe some short stories in the future. Also social media shoutouts and reblogging of your posts although please don’t spam me to reblog like 10 posts in a week try be reasonable in reblog/shoutout requests no spamming basically.

I hadn’t really thought about the shoutouts thing until it had it as a suggested perk I could offer and I thought sure why not add that in.

Anyways I’m excited and will be making sure to post content regularly for subscribers. Idk if this will actually take off or it’ll be a flop but doesn’t hurt to try I suppose. Also let me know if you’ve got feedback like do you think $3.99 is fair or would you rather it be cheaper?

Tumblr gives me a few options on pricing the lowest it goes is $1.99 then it jumps straight to $3.99 but I would consider lowering it at least in the beginning if people are interested but the price is just a bit out of reach for you guys.

Hey here!

I’ve been contemplating for a while doing post plus once I get Settled into my new apartment,

post plus is A subscription based program that allows tumblr creators to provide exclusive post to their subscribers.

The subscription prices are 1.99$ 3.99$ 5.99$ or 9.99$ a month and would allow my subscribers to have access to certain posts and information.

I don’t know if this is something anyone would be interested in so if you would please interact! ✨

this just helps me find out if this is something that will be of any interest from my followers!

Merry meet!~B (Phae)

This is my interpretation of the POST+ controversial button that’s popped up on our menues now.

1. “Why does the set up ask for social security and other sensitive information?”

Answer: Because you’re effectively setting up a business account for Tumblr to pay you through Stripe. Many online places utilize stripe as a means to pay people (Medium is the first one that comes to my head, a free article writing platform). No, Tumblr DOES NOT see this sensitive information. Stripe is literally just the middle man going “Hey, here’s your money at the end of the month.”

2. “How do people actually get paid?”

Answer: Tumblr will write up whatever conversation rate they’ll give (so much cents per X notes, so much cents per X views, whatever they decide). So around the end/beginning of each month, you’ll get a lump sum of the previous month’s earnings (So for January’s earnings it’d be between January 1-31).

3. “What about fan stuff?”

Answer: Because copyright laws are indeed a thing, if you have ANY kind of copyrighted material (gifs, stillshots, video clips, audio from movies or TV shows, artwork that isn’t yours, writing that takes place in a previously-established fictional universe like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Harry Potter, etc.) and you activate Post+, you run the risk of a potentially serious lawsuit (since there’s zero evidence Tumblr has even bothered attempting to protect creators in this light)

4. “Can I have adult material on my blog and have it be Post+ eligible?”

Answer: No.

5. “Does Tumblr get any of the money I make?”

Answer: According to interviews, Tumblr will take a 5 percent fee from subscriptions. So if you set your subscription fee at $9.99 and only two people subscribes, Tumblr at the end of the month will take $1.99 from the total of $19.98 (meaning instead of $19.98 at the end of the month, you will be paid $17.99)

6. “Do other subscription platforms charge a fee like Tumblr?”

Answer: Most places do (including Patreon and similar platforms).

7. “Can blogs with multiple contributors get paid?”

Answer: No.

The worst thing about post plus is that my mouse can’t muscle memory it’s way to “drafts” because there’s an extra fucking option

POSTSCRIPT-

Since my retirement post was abrupt and didn’t give any info, and since I’m cursed with an inability to shut the fuck up, here’s one more for the road. The two reasons why I’m done.

1 : The ad-free subscription is the best compromise we’re ever getting to help support tumblr. If you want to help keep tumblr around, this is your method. Now that it’s here, my job is more or less done.

2 : tumblr is never going to change for the better. tumblr will forever be tumblr’s own worse enemy but they’ll put the blame on others. And no amount of pointing it out will change that.

You can blame it on David Karp. You can blame it on Yahoo. You can blame it on Verizon. You can blame it on Apple. You can blame it on Vincent D’Onofrio. You can blame it on Automattic. You can blame it on me. You can blame it on old staff. You can blame it on new staff. You can blame it on your user base. You can blame it on miscommunication. Hell, blame it on the rain.

But at the end of the day, it’s tumblrs inability to listen to its own users and then passing the buck when things go bad that’s bringing this house of cards down. The current “impending doom” isn’t because Post+ flopped. The users’ constant hostile reaction to staff isn’t because of it being a meme. It’s tumblr shooting itself in the foot then getting mad at its user base that’s part of the problem.

Tumblr keeps trying to put bandaids on severe injuries and amputating limbs with mere scratches. Perhaps tumblr should look at the rot that starts at the very roots?

Anyway, I’m officially officially out now. I’ve turned off asks but everything else will be left up for posterity. Thanks everyone for the ride!

staff:

This is 100% new and 100% Tumblr with 0% ads.

If you love ads, then this post is not for you. If you love Tumblr but hate ads and want the one to continue without having to endure the other, then this post is literally for you. Hello, you.

As of today, you can set up ad-free browsing on your personal desktop computer, from anywhere in the world, and then enjoy the same effervescent Tumblr you know and love (yes, including mobile) without the interruption of ads. Scroll away.

Some caveats:

  • It’s $4.99 for a month of pure, unadulterated nonsense.
  • If you like a discount, you can get 33% off (that’s four months for free) at $39.99 for a whole year. Imagine.
  • This is opt-in. You don’t have to do this. We won’t make you.

How do you opt in?

Easy! Just go to your Account Settings on desktop and hit “Go Ad-Free.” From there, you can choose to pay monthly or yearly:

And that’s it! You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite blogs and posts without any pesky ads getting in the way.

That’s all for now, Tumblr. Back to your blorbos.

Perhaps this would go over better had you not spent the past almost year perpetually pissing off your user base with half baked monetization ploys? I’m kinda surprised you didn’t go full middle finger and commit to calling it tumblr premium. But I guess it’s something?

Also, maybe it’s me, but do you think you could’ve picked a more appropriate time to announce this? Considering current events?

postplus-protest:

POST PLUS IS COMING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT!

Despite the fancy survey, changes to the UI and TOS reveal we’re getting the service in the future whether we want it or not. Obviously, Post+ is a terrible idea that is trying to bank revenue on user content. Unlike patreon or onlyfans, tumblr’s primary focus is on FAN content. The legality of this is NOT in the users favor and as the new tumblr TOS states, said users will be entirely liable for whatever legal matters arise.

SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Besides filling out the survey, it’s time to show tumblr we mean business and show our displeasure by hitting them where it hurts.

Ad revenue.

We’re proposing a 24 hour log off as phase one of this protest.

WHEN IS THE PROTEST?

AUGUST 6th, 2021
       12 am Eastern Time (US)
         5 am Greenwich Mean Time
         6 am Central European Time
         8 am Moscow Standard Time
         1 pm Australian Western Time
         2 pm Japan Standard Time
         3:30 pm Australian Central Time
         4 pm Australian Eastern Time

AUGUST 5th, 2021

11 pm Central Time (US)
         10 pm Mountain Time (US)
           9 pm Pacific Time (US)

THE END TIME IS 24 HOURS FROM START TIME!!!

So no posting, no queues, no likes, and no reblogs!

WHAT IF I CAN’T/WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

Like this post and share it AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE. Use the hashtags #tumblrlogoff2021 or #postplusprotest on ANY and ALL social media.

WILL THIS WORK?

Maybe, maybe not. It’s an attempt at doing SOMETHING.

BECAUSE I’M A TIRED IDIOT, USE THIS TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TIME ZONE!!!!

tumblr is like a sinking ship and staff just comes in every 6 months to make the hole in the floor bigger

Hey apple phone users if u access Tumblr through a third party browser like Firefox, can you see blocked posts like that

Tested this myself and you can in fact see everything as usual through Firefox.

So yeah to follow up on this. If you’re a mobile iOS user, you can get around the new updates by abandoning the app and using a browser to access Tumblr instead. It’s not a perfect fix. The mobile website is certainly a bit clunky.

On the other hand, Tumblr’s mismanagement re: selecting blocked tags and Apple’s stranglehold on forcing their user experience to be family friendly means that at least you can get around some of the more problematic restrictions.

post plus feels like dead site tumblr dot com is making a calculated attempt to force users off the platform by restricting already scarce content behind paywalls so that WordPress can close it in a year or so, citing declining userbase and overhead server costs… they could have gone with post awards like reddit, but are trying to basically OnlyFans a site that banned NSFW in 2018…

i’ll be shocked, i tell you, absolutely shocked if this feature doesn’t take off /s
