final little push. I’ll be doing some work on my essay until probably 23rd, but interspersed with watching christmas films and going on dog walks, so fairly lowkey. fortunately the essay is super interesting + I’m so happy that this course has opened up so many different schools of thought and ways of reading in just one term! also extremely pleased with this table in my bedroom, now that my desk is gathering dust in my house for a couple of weeks. when I hurried back a couple of days ago, I did make it a priority to bring my laptop stand in my suitcase (people often ask - it’s this guy, and I couldn’t recommend it more! https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/braeda-laptop-support-bamboo-veneer-30384822/

hope everyone is safe, well + starting to wind down for the holidays. it’s been rough, and weird, recently and, really, all year, and the news is getting difficult to listen to again, but we’ve all pulled through and a bit of indulgence is certainly in order now!

since getting my essay in I’ve struggled to sit down at my desk, which feels like it has the ghost of psychogeography about it still, so I’ve been finding new places around the house to work for the time being (think this was a little inconvenient for everyone else, but I liked it!)

drifted into the british museum after my seminar and hadn’t realised the parthenon friezes rooms were finally open again, so came to see my old friends before settling down in the cafe to do some reading. I feel as strongly as anyone that these should be back in athens, where they belong and where their intricacy and their magnitude would be so much more important and so much better respected. I find this museum very uncomfortable and in many ways I would like it to become obsolete. that being said, I’m still a classicist at heart, and I feel an immense sense of comfort in the presence of the ancient world, so while it is still here - and while it’s round the corner - I won’t deny myself that

5/03/2021 I took a break from social media after such a busy month I had to reduce my phone usage, hence the disappearance! I’m currently making maps for my Urban Design: Place Making module and its kind of lonely work, so I’ve made some new spotify playlists to get through it. Hope everyone had a nice February - the lockdown was getting quite hard for me! x Emily

7/02/2021 I’ve been working on my notion databases to keep track of my grades all morning while it snows! I only have a few marks back at the moment and I’m currently averaging about 77(?) so that’s good but I feel so much pressure to keep it up. I’ve been getting to grips with notion and I’m really liking it for some things; you can see all of my databases to the left. Let me know if you’ve used notion and what you thought, I’ve not used javascript before! xx Emily

Winter Studying Challenge

15th January: would you rather wear a winter coat in the summer or a swimming costume in the winter? Honestly I would rather a swimming costume in the winter! I hate being too hot in summer! I know I’ve missed loads of days of these but I’ve been working so hard it’s been dark by the time I remember to take a photo! X Emily

17th Oct

It’s been three weeks since I started the masters and it’s been a very hectic beginning. There’s just so much to do and so little time. But it’s been exciting having in person teaching again, it feels like I’m a university student again? I’m running around all the time, keeping busy, and the days feel so much more fulfilling compared to last academic year!
