Lord of the Red

You can Ritual Summon this card with “Red-Eyes Transmigration”. “Red-Eyes B. Dragon” has an incredible reputation among fans regardless of its efficiency in the game. A prime example of a card often played despite being lackluster in competitive play during its debut, “Red-Eyes” gradually gained counterparts and options to the point of obtaining an archetype of its own. A subpar high Level Normal Monster, “Red-Eyes B. Dragon” didn’t stop to becoming one of the most iconic monsters in the whole franchise thanks in part to its pressence in the series.

“Lord of the Red” was one of various cards appearing in filler arcs of the original show, being released in the card game quite recently along with strong support and dangerous abilities. “Lord of the Red” has two similar destructive abilities triggered when a card or effect is activated (Excluding “Lord of the Red” and its copies), with one destroying a monster and the other doing so against a Spell or Trap Card. Both effects available once each player’s turn, “Lord of the Red” offers the possibility of constantly destroy cards no matter if we are the ones playing other cards and effects or responding those from the opponent’s.

As many Ritual Monsters, “Lord of the Red” requires a strong coverage for its summon by obtaining its Ritual cards as well tributes. While recurring searching options like “Pre-Preparation of Rites” and Impcantation monsters won’t take long to look both the Ritual Monster and Ritual Spell, “Lord of the Red” actually has a variety of shortcuts to ease its arrival when compared to other Ritual Summons. Its main Ritual Spell “Red-Eyes Transmigration” gives us the option to banish Red-Eyes monsters from the Graveyard as cost of its summon, allowing us to either focus on other summons with these creatures or skip through preparatives with milling effects like “Dragon Shrine”. If you wanna keep a traditional approach along the classic “Red-Eyes B. Dragon”, “Advanced Ritual Art” can use it as material from inside our Deck along a Level 1 Normal Monster to summon “Lord of the Red” with. Finally, a “Lord of the Red” in our Graveyard will be far from being useless not just thanks to revival effects (As long was properly Ritual Summoned beforehand), but also “Odd-Eyes Advent” Ritual Summoning it from our Graveyard to the point that will let us use a Odd-Eyes from our Extra Deck as material.

“Lord of the Red” can go from a passive monster answering opponent’s cards, to gaining a strong offensive along other cards we will follow its arrival with. With the right resources, the summo0n of “Lord of the Red” is accompanied with other summons and effects that will likely trigger its two abilities to destroy cards on the opposite field. “Lord of the Red” might not activate its effects by itself or other copies, yet with two or more of them on the field will wipe out entire boards turn after turn. Responding opponent’s cards and effects might be riskful given some of them will take care of “Lord of the Red”, yet forces them to retaliate using certain cards until its the effects of this monsters have been used during the turn. Otherwise, we can backup “Lord of the Red” with defensive options such as “Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring” and “Safe Zone” as their activation will get destroy cards in return. Given “Lord of the Red” has no restrictions on the location of cards or effects when used, it can work along builds like Nekroz easily as their hand effects will manage the board and themselves while this monster keeps the opponent under control.

With various options on its Ritual Summon as well to keep destroying cards turn after turn, “Lord of the Red” is a dangerous monster that can keep the opponent’s field completely clear. Although can fall victim of bluffing so the opponent can use their best effects without punishment, “Lord of the Red” has a strong coverage in both its arrival and performance. From simply waiting for the opponent to use their cards to working with easily accesible effects like Nekroz cards, “Lord of the Red” can be the lead monster of its own Deck or a supporting card and still be a severe threat in any of those roles.

Personal Rating: A

+ Destroys a monster when another card or effect is activated
+ Destroys a Spell or Trap Card when another card or effect is activated
+ Strong support in both summon and performance
+Can take different approaches depending of our Deck’s priorities

-Its effects might be bluffed
-Requires a Deck for its Ritual Summon and work along its effects
