Scyther looks very reptilian considering it is supposed to be an insect. This makes sense considering what we know about the history of Scyther’s design, but we wanted to emphasize its insect side more. The protruding eyes, mandibles, jointed limbs and rear-facing abdomen are all meant to support that.
Scyther is also often compared to a ninja in its Pokédex entries, so we also brought that element to the forefront. In particular, the wings are meant to resemble a cape or cloak; and the scythes, which are now more metallic, are meant to directly reference kusarigama, a ninja weapon consisting of a scythe and a weight attached by a chain.
The darker pattern on the chest is also reminiscent of Scizor’s patterns.
Got a little bit bored at work and decided to do some Shiny Pokemon recolors- specifically Gen 1 and Gen 2. Maybe I will do more… I really like some of these, Pidgeot, Dragonite, Magcargo, and Noctowl being my favorites
