Nine pokemon designed. I apologize is those who are androgynous aren’t. I like there designs. Since the first two were the same pokemon i made them siblings :).
I drew this the day before a con because I needed an updated example of my ink work :)
I did have an offer to buy it on the last day of the con, but I declined. Maybe not the best idea looking back now, but I do feel this is a good example of my ink work and I would like this guy to accompany me on at least a few more convention travels before sending him off to a new home!
I didn’t make it into the top 300 for the pokemon tcg contest but I’m glad that I entered!! Congratulations to all of the people who got to move forward!!

Knight Errant Benjamin Specialty: Mixed
In the shady heart of Berenger Forest awaits the Final Challenge of this fairytale realm! Sir Benjamin spent his youth helping to end a feud between humans and wild pokemon. Now retired, he enjoys books, tea, and a friendly duel to keep the team sharp.
Loyal and brave, Richard was Ben’s first pokemon. Pup and boy spent their childhood exploring the forest they grew up on the edge of, accidentally befriending the evil wild pokemon they were warned to fear and encouraged to hate. As they matured, the adventurous, helpful, and well-mannered pair became a model of chivalry for both sides.

Ben wasn’t the only one yearning for an end to the fear. His counterpart on the wild side, Perceval was a wise and gentle sawsbuck who committed himself to Ben’s tiny team when he saw in the young man a real promise of peace. Perceval is deeply in touch with nature, and fostered a similar love and connection in his trainer. His cherries are delicious.
This powerful war mount was gifted to Benjamin on the day he was knighted, with the blessing that the pair might stomp out many threats to the Kingdom. Representing all that is blind lawful good and problem-solving by punching, it took the team some time to bring the proud stallion around to making peace instead of war. At once point, he nearly betrayed their forbidden friendship with the forest-dwellers to the humans. ‘Mir came to respect the strength and struggle that is compassion, and became Ben’s trusted steed.
For many dangerous years Ben met in village halls with angry lords and forest glens with angry pokemon, trying to broker peace talks or at least a cease-fire. Inadvertently, one such meeting offended a baron who ordered a brutal sweep of a den of fairy pokemon. Riding to the rescue and rallying allies on the way, Ben’s team defended the den, costing him all respect from other humans- and his own family- forever. While bandaging up his team, swarmed by grateful and curious fairy children, Ben looked up to see the rarest creature in the forest approaching him. The Fairy Queen Morrigan, touched by his pure heart and sacrifice, healed the lost knight and his pokemon and pledged herself and all her fairies to his cause.
Now banished to the wilds, Ben lived among pokemon, teaching his small fairy army to confound and turn back human invaders instead of engaging (or murdering) them. That said, a group of captured and hypnotized men were dumped at Ben’s camp one morning by a very pleased gang of hattrem and morgrem. Among them were three of Ben’s brothers and several friends, come to throw their lot in with him! They brought with them the sad news that Ben’s father Liam had passed… and also Liam’s unhinged vegetable-wielding duck, Quixote, who had lost an eye and his mind in the Crusades. Suicidally plucky, the gallant bird became mascot to the crazy little band of fairies and knights, standing up to kings and to…
…dragons. As Ben’s human family and friends rallied support among humans, it was clear a final reckoning was coming due with the King of the Forest. Inigo, leader of the dragons, had lost family to humans and had long been the self-appointed defender of the forest from mankind. He led his dragons in a brutal attack on Ben’s camp to bust up this unnatural alliance. He targeted Ben specifically, and though his team defended him from the dragon’s barrage of blinding blasts, in one final ferocious strike Inigo tore Ben’s leg clear off before being moonblasted and dazzling-gleamed unconscious by about a thousand tiny fairies. The dragons surrendered immediately. Upon Inigo’s revival, he acknowledged that, united, the small pokemon of the forest are stronger than he believed. And that perhaps there is something to gain from an alliance with men. The dragon king allied himself and his forces with Benjamin and Morrigan’s fairy army. And it turns out Ben and Inigo have a very similar sense of humor (and affinity for mead). They get along like brothers.

The old knight is happy to tell the tale to any trainer that can run the positively medieval gauntlet of dragon, fairy, and ghost pokemon that await in the woods between you and his challenge!
Humans like to draw inspiration from animals, but what happens when animals get to see the humans’ interpretations of their characters and shapes? Well, a not-so legendary Pokémon just found out.
A bit of bilingual bonus: the writing under the Komainu-like statue is 風速狗 (Fēngsùgǒu),which is Arcanine’s name in Mandarin Chinese and means “Wind speed dog”.
It won’t let me edit the old post so… here was my entry for the Pokemon TCG illustration contest. I didn’t get into the first round of winners, but congratulations to everyone who did!! I’m sure it was a tough judging with so many entries. I’ll have to try again next time! :>
When Detective Pikachu came out I asked people over on twitter what their Pokémon partner would be, and then decided to draw as many of them as possible. More are on the way but I’ll wait until I have ten before I make another post.
