The news of a just formed Dueling Club spread like fire in the common rooms of all Houses. Someone had pinned a piece of parchment announcing it on the notice boards, but it didn’t say who would be in charge of it. (Y/N) felt a little bit giddy, and a little bit nervous too.

Duels! That would certainly be a challenge; she was curious to see how a wizard duel worked, and if it resembled in any way a muggle sword duel, like the ones she saw in movies. She was also a little bit afraid of the outcome, as she was still getting used to her wand. She was confident it would produce some stable spells (at least), but what if she ended up hurting someone? Her biggest fear was hurting one of her friends, truth be told.

(Y/N) also reflected about why a dueling club. Perhaps, the attacker terrorising Hogwarts was a living person, after all? No monster, and no paranormal stuff. Just a person you could fight off.

But if that was the case, no attacker would challenge anyone to a duel, right? That wasn’t a smart idea if you want to be sneaky and roam around the castle. A duel could mean being uncovered, or being defeated and caught. (Y/N) concluded that an assaulter (an intelligent one) would choose a surprise attack over a combat, and that the idea of a dueling club as such would turn out rather useless for anyone lacking reflexes or simply sheer intuition.

Whose idea was this?!

━━━━━━━━

That same night, (Y/N) walked into the Great Hall at 8 pm sharp together with a handful of other Slytherins, although the place was already quite packed with students with their wands in hand. The long dining tables had vanished and a golden stage had appeared along one wall, lit by thousands of candles floating overhead, and the ceiling was velvety black.

‘Mione!’ (Y/N) greeted, making her way to her friend. The group also greeted the Slytherin, who asked:

‘Any idea of who’ll be teaching us?’

‘Someone told me Flitwick was a dueling champion when he was young — maybe it’ll be him.’ The witch answered.

‘As long as it’s not —’ Harry began, but he ended on a groan: Gilderoy Lockhart was walking onto the stage, resplendent in robes of deep plum and accompanied by none other than Snape, wearing his usual black. Lockhart waved an arm for silence and called:

‘Gather round, gather round! Can everyone see me? Can you all hear me? Excellent!’

‘Now, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little dueling club, to train you all in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions — for full details, see my published works.’ He took a little pause to look pridefully at the crowd beneath him, and then continued:

‘Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape,’ said Lockhart, flashing a wide smile. ‘He tells me he knows a tiny little bit about dueling himself and has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration before we begin. Now, I don’t want any of you youngsters to worry — you’ll still have your Potions master when I’m through with him, never fear!’ ‘Wouldn’t it be good if they finished each other off?’ Ron muttered in Harry’s ear. (Y/N) heard it too and clenched her fist until her nails dug into her palm, but she said nothing.

How dare he?!

Snape’s upper lip was curling. (Y/N) had never seen Severus letting his thoughts slip so easily. He was looking as though he was planning on killing Lockhart before feeding him to the giant squid.

Lockhart and Snape turned to face each other and bowed; at least, Lockhart did, with much twirling of his hands, whereas Snape jerked his head irritably. Then they raised their wands like swords in front of them.

‘As you see, we are holding our wands in the accepted combative position,’ Lockhart told the silent crowd. ‘On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of us will be aiming to kill, of course.’

‘I wouldn’t bet on that,’ Harry murmured, watching Snape baring his teeth. (Y/N) giggled softly as she watched her mentor as well.

‘One — two — three —’ Both of them swung their wands above their heads and pointed them at their opponent; Snape cried:

‘Expelliarmus!’ There was a dazzling flash of scarlet light and Lockhart was blasted off his feet: He flew backward off the stage, smashed into the wall, and slid down it to sprawl on the floor.

Draco Malfoy and some of the other Slytherins cheered. (Y/N) didn’t, as she was staring too in awe to articulate a sound. She was aware of Severus’ wide knowledge about the Dark Arts, but she had never seen him really do anything with it, let alone cast such a powerful spell.

Hermione was dancing on tiptoes.

‘Do you think he’s all right?’ she squealed through her fingers.

‘Who cares?’ said Harry, (Y/N) and Ron together. Lockhart was getting unsteadily to his feet. His hat had fallen off and his wavy hair was standing on end.

‘Well, there you have it!’ he said, tottering back onto the platform. ‘That was a Disarming Charm — as you see, I’ve lost my wand — ah, thank you, Miss Brown — yes, an excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don’t mind my saying  so, it was very obvious what you were about to do. If I had wanted to stop you it would have been only too easy — however, I felt it would be instructive to let them see…’

(Y/N) could hardly bear with how ridicously unbalanced both teachers were, and she had to do a titanic effort to avoid laughing loudly.

Severus Snape was looking murderous. Possibly Lockhart had noticed, because he said, ‘Enough demonstrating! I’m going to come amongst you now and put you all into pairs. Professor Snape, if you’d like to help me —’

They moved through the crowd, matching up partners. Lockhart teamed Neville with Justin Finch-Fletchley, but Snape reached Harry and Ron first.

‘Time to split up the dream team, I think,’ he sneered. ‘Weasley, you can partner Finnigan. Potter —’ Harry moved automatically toward Hermione. ‘I don’t think so,’ said Snape, smiling coldly. ‘Mr. Malfoy, come over here. Let’s see what you make of the famous Potter. And you, Miss Granger — you can partner Miss Bulstrode. Miss (Y/L/N)…’ he paused for a second, studying her features. ‘You go with Miss Parkinson.’

(Y/N) (Y/L/N)’s stomach dropped to her feet, watching her tormentor come closer sporting a cruel smile.

‘Face your partners!’ called Lockhart, back on the platform. ‘And bow!’

(Y/N) barely inclined her head, and so did Pansy, too full of herself to bow in front of (Y/L/N).

‘Wands at the ready!’ shouted Lockhart. ‘When I count to three, cast your charms to disarm your opponents — only to disarm them — we don’t want any accidents — one … two … three —’

(Y/N) tried to keep a steady pose, but she saw how the point of her wand shaked, unable to aim properly. Her feet couldn’t keep their balance, and her heart thumped hard against her ribcage, trying to escape from the danger. She was sure that Pansy wouldn’t just try to disarm her, that she would try to hurt her. It was difficult to draw air into her lungs, and her tongue felt leathery against her dried out palate.

Pansy attacked first, not waiting for the three. (Y/N) couldn’t quite make out which spell she pronounced through the buzzing inside her ears, but it sent her straight to the floor, landing painfully on her back.

Lockhart was running around and screaming like a headless chicken, trying to restore order in the middle of the havoc he himself had allowed to unleash.

‘I said disarm only!’ Lockhart shouted in alarm over the heads of the battling crowd, ‘Stop! Stop!’ He screamed, but nobody listened, or feared him enough to obey, until Severus’ voice raised:

‘Finite Incantatem!’ he shouted, and (Y/N) looked around.

A haze of greenish smoke was hovering over the scene. Both Neville and his partner were lying on the floor, panting; Hermione and Millicent Bulstrode were still moving; Millicent had Hermione in a headlock and Hermione was whimpering in pain; both their wands lay forgotten on the floor. (Y/N) tried to get up and aid her friend, but luckily, Harry, who was closer, leapt forward and pulled Millicent off with great effort. She then glanced up to look at Severus, who was watching from afar, looking utterly displeased.

‘Dear, dear,’ said Lockhart, skittering through the crowd, looking at the aftermath of the duels. ‘Up you go, Macmillan… . Careful there, Miss Fawcett… . Pinch it hard, it’ll stop bleeding in a second, Boot —’

‘I think I’d better teach you how to block unfriendly spells,’ said Lockhart, standing flustered in the midst of the hall. He glanced at Snape too, whose black eyes glinted, and looked quickly away. (Y/N), on the contrary, glared at the D.A.D.A professor with hatred as she got back up to her feet. Could there be a worse instructor? She didn’t think so.

Then, with Professor Snape’s intervention, Draco Malfoy and Harry were chosen to do a demonstration on whatever Lockhart wanted to teach next. The scene was just pathetic to watch from outside. Lockhart attempted a complicated sort of wiggling action while explaining Harry what he had to do, and dropped it. Snape smirked as Lockhart quickly picked it up.

‘Whoops — my wand is a little overexcited —’

(Y/N) thought it was rather polite of her Head to avoid laughing loudly at the lame exemplification of Lockhart.

Snape moved closer to Malfoy, bent down, and whispered something in his ear. Malfoy smirked, too.

Everyone gathered around the stage, watching the performance that was about to happen. (Y/N) was sure that Malfoy would win, for the sole reason that he had a competent teacher on his side.

‘Three — two — one — go!’ he shouted.

Malfoy raised his wand quickly.

‘Serpensortia!’ He bellowed. The end of his wand exploded. Harry watched, aghast, as a long black snake shot out of it, fell heavily onto the floor between them, and raised itself, ready to strike. There were screams as the crowd backed swiftly away, clearing the floor.

‘Don’t move, Potter,’ said Snape lazily, clearly enjoying the sight of Harry standing motionless, eye to eye with the angry snake.

‘I’ll get rid of it… .Allow me!’ shouted Lockhart. He brandished his wand at the snake and there was a loud bang; the snake, instead of vanishing, flew ten feet into the air and fell back to the floor with a loud smack. Enraged, hissing furiously, it slithered straight toward Justin Finch-Fletchley and raised itself again, fangs exposed, poised to strike.

Harry walked forward and his tongue flicked against his front teeth, producing soft hisses. The crowd watched in horror, and Harry grinned at Justin.

‘What do you think you’re playing at?!’ he shouted, and then turned and stormed out of the hall.

Snape stepped forward, waved his wand, and the snake vanished in a small puff of black smoke. Snape, too, was looking at Harry in an unexpected way: It was a shrewd and calculating look.

Murmurs began rising in the room, and then Ron steered Harry out of the Hall, and Hermione hurriedly accompanied them.

Severus managed to calm down the students, and the session went on for a while.

━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━

As soon as (Y/N)’s eyes fluttered open the next morning, a smile crept to the corner of her lips, remembering the previous day. She turned around to look at her wand, which rested on the nightstand. In the end, she had been able to cast a potent Expelliarmus that nearly made Pansy backflip, right when Severus was looking.

She stirred her body and reached for it, holding it delicately between her fingers.

The dim light was barely enough to let her see the carvings of her wand, and she finally decided to get up.

First, she grabbed her clothes from the trunk and closed the curtains surrounding her bed for privacy, and then, she took off her pyjamas.

(Y/N) examined her naked skin; new bruises were starting to emerge in places they usually didn’t, probably due to the previous day’s duels.

Fantastic, she thought, observing the mixture of the yellowish older ones, the new blue ones and some of a burgundy tone that were still forming. Those were usually the most painful ones, so she avoided touching them. Once she had her robes on, (Y/N) flung open the curtains with both hands and sat on the bed, with her feet hanging. She had her stockings on already, and she only needed to put on her shoes now.

(Y/N) slid down just enough for her feet to touch the floor, but…

Eh?

Her shoes weren’t where she remembered leaving them last night.

Maybe I left them under the bed….

And she kneeled down, and checked under. There was a small bag with a stock of biscuits she had been hoarding, but no shoes at sight.

Strange… Maybe I put them in the trunk and forgot?

(Y/N) hurriedly crawled to the trunk and opened it…

Nope.

Just the few scattered clothes she still had from Severus and school stuff.

(Y/N) had been trying hard to suppress her uneasiness, but now it was really getting to her.

Under the bed, I need to check under the bed again.

But the biscuits bag laid in the same place, by itself. Still no shoes.

Perhaps I haven’t looked right.

And she turned around to look at where they should have been.

Maybe someone kicked them?

She proceeded to look under the neighbouring beds, feeling bad about snooping around, but nothing of hers was to be found there.

(Y/N) stood in the middle of the empty room for almost a minute with a blank stare, inmobile.

That is, until a burning rage switched something inside her brain, and she kicked her mattress with anger once, twice, three times, until it was displaced and her foot hurted.

Then, (Y/N) plopped down on the dismantled bed and felt her eyes swell quickly with tears.

Now what? She couldn’t just run around barefoot! People would notice!

She thought hard of something to obtain a new pair of shoes without anybody knowing.

Maybe… she could transfigure something else into a new pair of shoes?

That might work.

(Y/N) got up again, and searched the dorm for a pair of objects that resembled shoes.

Socks, perhaps? No… as silly as it may look, (Y/N) couldn’t visualise socks as anything else other than socks, which was quite necessary in order to transform something into something else. It was all about focusing, and creating the most detailed model in your mind you could achieve.

She was pacing around, groaning in frustration as she squeezed out her brain for a solution, when a face came to her mind.

It was a face framed by a frizzy mane, and it had a bossy air to it…

Hermione!

If there was anyone in the castle that could help her discreetly, that was Hermione Granger.

(Y/N) put on an extra pair of stockings to protect her feet from the cold stone floors and left the dormitories with renewed hopes.

The Slytherin first checked the Great Hall from outside; the long tables were back in their correspondent place, but Hermione was not there.

Then, (Y/N) proceeded to search through the hallways, but.. nothing.

Last night, a blizzard had started falling, so all classes taking place outdoors were cancelled. (Y/N) assumed that Hermione would be in the Library, catching up in her free time, but she was wrong. At least, Madam Pince seemed satisfied with (Y/N)’s extra muffled steps, because she gave her the tiniest of the smiles. (Y/N) somehow felt privileged, doubting anyone alive or dead in the castle had ever seen the librarian smile.

The girl walked back to the dorm in disappointment. The one time she really needed Hermione, and she was probably in the common room! She sped up her pace, wanting to arrive to arrive to her own common room before the students began emptying the classrooms.

She reflected on the situation; why had her shoes vanished?

She was sure to have left them by the bed’s side, and one does not just go and lose their shoes, right?

Could someone from the dorm have borrowed them? What kind of person borrows your shoes without leaving at least a note?!

Was this a prank for hanging out too much with the Gryffindors?

(Y/N) bumped right into her answer; turning around a corner in the dungeons, she ran into something big and bulky, but also soft.

When she looked up, she saw Millicent Bulstrode smiling with malice, and Pansy’s ugly pug face popped up from behind her.

‘Looking for something, (Y/L/N)?’

Then, it clicked in her brain.

Of course, who else would be willing to steal anyone’s shoes almost in winter?

Who would feel the imperative need to harass someone that never really wanted to have anything to do with her to begin with?

Who could be sore with (Y/N)?

Pansy Parkinson.

The answer to all of those questions was Pansy Parkinson.

(Y/N) glared with narrowed eyes at the girl,

‘You! It was you!’ She yelled, and Pansy and Bulstrode cackled in unison.

‘This isn’t funny Pansy!’ (Y/N) moved to the side in order to face Pansy. Bulstrode tried to grab her by the arm, but only grasped air. ‘Give them back! NOW!’

Chapter 11 ~ TRUSTS TO MEND

Petrichor- Ignis Aurum Probat || Hermione x Slytherin! Fem! Reader.

Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose and exhaled deeply, waiting for Scylla to catch up before both of them went to the great hall for dinner.

The best friends ate silently as the rest of the Inquisitorial Squad boasted about busting the D.A and getting them into detention.

“ Y/l/n, celebrate with us. You too, Vervain. What’s got you two so glum?” Blaise asked, noticing they were the only ones who weren’t joining in on their party.

Y/n just smiled slightly, making some excuse about a headache to get Blaise off her head.

Once his attention was diverted, Scylla spoke up,” Pink Toad is really testing the limits isn’t she?”

Y/n jaws tensed, trying not to punish the poor cutlery in her hands,” When is she not, honestly.”

“Still, banning any issues of the Quibbler is just insane. And quite desperate.”

Y/n hummed before something struck her. She smirked as Scylla brought that topic into light,” Then that means we are doing something right after all. If she’s getting desperate, that means she’s threatened…”

Scylla seemed to catch on her train of thought, a sly grin appearing on her face,”… and once she makes this ban, more people are going to believe Potter’s story since no one likes Umbridge to begin with at all.”

“Exactly”

“Huh. How the tables have turned. And to think it’s her who’s bringing this upon herself.” Scylla chuckled under her breath,” So you going to tell Granger about this happy news?”

It seemed like Y/n had momentarily forgotten about the arrangement to meet her girlfriend, but no one could really blame her. Listening to Umbridge was guaranteed to fry most of your brain cells off.

“Please don’t tell me you forgot.”

“Uhm…no of course not. I was just thinking about something else.” Y/n lied, quite terribly. Scylla just hummed in apprehension before letting it rest.

Later that night, near midnight the H/c girl sneaked out of her dormitory and left for the astronomy tower.

Once she reached the door, narrowly avoiding getting caught by Filch, she cast the silencing spell under her breath, before making her way up the tiny staircase.

Upon seeing the brunette already present, she feared she might have been late,” Have you been waiting long?”

Hermione turned around, giving a small smile, eyes still distant thinking about something,” No. Just arrived.”

Quietly sighing in relief, the Slytherin walked up to her and tried to see what had the Gryffindor princess so riled up.

After a couple minutes of silence, her patience had worn thin,” Are we going to converse or just keep stargazing?”

“ Stargazing seems pretty romantic, don’t you think?” Hermione slightly smiled before sighing,” but maybe that could wait for a while.”

She sat down, patting the spot beside her for the other girl to sit as well before she began,” Are you mad I told them?”

The (y/h/c) girl gave it a thought, analyzing what she felt before looking up,” I don’t think I’m mad. I am quite…surprised, for the lack of a better word. I thought you wanted to keep it to yourself for a bit longer, the last time we talked?”

Hermione could see the questions swimming behind her girlfriend’s eyes and again felt guilty about the reason she had revealed their secret in the first place,” I-…well yes. I did.”

She gulped before averting her eyes towards the ceiling, not having the courage to look at the Slytherin who’s trust she had been slowly gaining,” I’m really sorry Y/n.”

Y/n furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and concern, her hand gently taking hold of the Gryffindor’s and squeezing it,” About what? What’s going on?”

“ You had disappeared. I didn’t know what to think. I couldn’t find you anywhere and even Scylla didn’t seem to know and then you lied to me about where you were going to and -”

“Princess, slow down” Y/n calmed the bookworm, trying to make sense of her ramble,” What are you getting at?”

Hermione finally met her gaze before whispering,” I slipped up about our relationship because i was ..I was getting worried that you might’ve been the reason we got..caught”

Her voice had died down by the time she finished her sentence and Y/n wouldn’t have even heard it entirely if it wasn’t for the pin-drop silence that surrounded them.

Her hand slowly left the Gryffindor’s, processing what was just said,” You still don’t trust me…”

Hermione tried to desperately explain, not wanting to lose the Slytherin,” No! No, I don’t even know if I truly believed it but it just kept plag-”

Y/n held up her hand, not wanting to hear anything more . She took a deep breath, trying to stabilize her emotions before she got up to leave.

Hermione followed her till the door and grabbed her wrist,” Y/n listen! I really didn’t-”

“It still plagued you enough to slip, Hermione” Y/n finally said, her voice surprisingly calm,” It riled you up enough to get consumed by it. Doesn’t that say enough about the trust you have in me.”

She turned around slightly,” I don’t think this” she gestured towards them,” will work if we didn’t even trust each other to a decent amount.”

Not being able to believe what the Slytherin was suggesting, she uttered the first thing that came to her mind,” Well, if you tried being a bit more honest, maybe I wouldn’t have such doubts!”

Y/n silently gasped at the accusation before turning around to face the Gryffindor, eyes blazing,” I have been nothing but honest with you Granger!”

“Then why won’t you tell me where you have been!?”

“Because I made a promise not to!”

Hermione inhaled sharply,” Does that promise mean more to you than I do? Can’t you even trust me to keep a secret for you?”

Y/n screwed her eyes shut, thinking her words through before replying,” I have more respect for the person I made this promise to. It is not trust, it’s about keeping my word. “

She opened her eyes, her gaze cold,” I told you I’d tell you when I could. I never refused.”

She turned to leave again before stopping to say one last thing,” It would be better if we didn’t meet anymore. Goodnight, Princess.”

 ***

Y/n sat in front of the fireplace, eyes staring into the void as the memory of a couple hours ago kept playing in her head.

It might’ve been around two in the morning but she couldn’t bring herself to fall asleep. It helped that they didn’t have any classes the next day, she could sleep in and avoid interacting with people.

Who was I trying to fool? This was never going to last. Nothing good ever does.

She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice she wasn’t the only one in the common room.

His voice brought her out of her trance,” You sneaked out?”

She looked behind her to find Blaise sitting at one of the desks in the room, finishing his assignment. She looked confused as to who he was addressing before her eyes fell on the frozen figure near the door.

Scylla slowly turned towards him, eyes flitting to Y/n for a second before going back to him,” Uh……yes. As you can clearly see. Why ask the obvious?”

Y/n and Scylla looked in apprehension at Blaise, who just stared right back at them before shrugging,” I don’t care what you’ve been up to , if that’s why you are worried. Pretty sure snogging someone. “

He smirked when he saw Scylla’s face change the slightest bit of red. He gathered his stuff and bid them goodnight in the next couple minutes.

Y/n went back to staring at the fire, avoiding Scylla’s eyes.

That turned out to be a mistake seeing how her not meeting her best friend’s eyes only confirmed to Scylla that something was wrong.

But Scylla didn’t approach her and continued towards her room. Y/n was quite surprised, having expected quite a nagging from the raven haired girl.

And she wasn’t wrong, because in the next few minutes she was met with someone bumping something cold on her shoulder, jolting her out of her thoughts.

She turned around to find a bottle of firewhiskey being handed to her, Scylla bringing two glasses to fill for them both.

After both of them had a filled glass in hand, Y/n looked at the girl in question.

Scylla rolled her eyes,” I have a couple bottles stacked in my trunk. Sneaked them from home.” she trained her eyes onto the (y/h/c) girl,” You look like you need it.”

Y/n chuckled dryly before taking a huge sip, instantly gagging slightly. Scylla laughed,” You aren’t supposed to chug it, you git.”

Silence followed after, nothing much was said, just the clunks of glasses hitting the table being heard.

“So are we just going to sit in silence and drink the night away?” Scylla asked, her words slurring just a tad bit. When she was met with a quiet but tired look from Y/n she continued,” not like i have any issues with that. We can totallyyyy just drink throughout  the night.”

She took it as a win when Y/n gave her the slightest bit of a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“We broke up.”

It was whispered so faintly that Scylla didn’t catch it,” You better speak up if you expect me to hear it”

“ We- I think we broke up.”

It took Scylla an entirety of three whole minutes to actually process what was said,” I’m sorry but WHAT!?”

“Shush!!!” Y/n shushed her loudly,” You are going to get us caught. And I’m the prefect here, I’ll be in more trouble!”

Scylla took another sip, trying to steady herself before asking again,” You broke up?”

When Y/n just shrugged and continued drinking her alcohol, Scylla stood up and marched towards the door.

“Where are you going at this hour?”

“To give Granger a piece of my mind.”

Y/n sputtered out a bit of her drink,” It’s nearly three in the morning!”

That seemed to stop the other Slytherin who took a moment to think things a bit more through before taking her seat back, not ceasing to grumble. Y/n bit her bottom lip,” And well…I was the one who broke up. How are you going to give her your piece of mind?”

Scylla instantly turned towards her, speaking dangerously low,” You broke up with her?”

She narrowed her eyes in anger when Y/n nodded,” If you are going to go on another spiel about this not working out because of your family, Merlin have mercy, I will kill you.”

Y/n clicked her tongue as she turned back to the fireplace,” No, though I guess that would’ve happened soon enough.”

She turned around in annoyance when a cushion hit her head,” Well then don’t leave me suspense. Tell me what happened.”

After finishing her glass, Y/n relented and told her about everything that had transpired in the Astronomy Tower. And she wouldn’t be wrong to conclude Scylla was angrier than she was in the beginning.

“Wow! You haven’t told me where you were either and it’s not like I stopped trusting you because of that!”

Y/n didn’t have much to say to that so she let Scylla grumble for a bit longer before trying to calm her down.

It took a bit of convincing but Scylla finally relented and granted her best friend’s wish on not hunting down the Gryffindor and creating a scene.

A somber atmosphere filled the Slytherin common room as the hours passed by.

They continued to drink for some more time before Scylla spoke up,” What do you think you want to do after this entire thing is finished and the upcoming war is over?”

Y/n lethargically blinked,” That’s out of nowhere. First and foremost would be leaving my household.”

Both shared a quiet chuckle,” Yes, please”.

Y/n thought a bit more before answering,” I think I’d like to be a healer. Or an Auror. That would be cool.”

“An auror would suit you, yeah” Scylla nodded before Y/n directed the question towards her,” Me? Hm. Honestly, I can’t see past the war for now. Probably because we were born at a time where war is all we’ve known in a way I guess…”

“I wouldn’t blame you on that.”

“I’m still hunting down Granger tomorrow”

“I know.”

***

The next morning was less chaotic than Y/n had expected it to be.

Somehow Scylla had resorted to only death-glaring the brunette instead of marching up to her and causing all of Hogwarts to know their business. Could’ve had something to do with Rae giving her some talk before breakfast, but whatever it was, she was thankful.

The first class that morning was with Umbridge. Y/n regretted not bringing a flask of firewhiskey because she knew she could not handle the toad without punching someone, in the current state that she was in.

Nevertheless, it seemed like the Weasley twins took the role of the firewhiskey because they definitely made her entire day with their pranks.

It was the most she had laughed in a while as she watched Umbridge stutter and stammer and utterly fail to control the firecrackers.

She was also amongst the crowd of the students who were at the balcony, watching the twins fly away from the prison that Hogwarts had become.

Good for them…

***

“You have some nerve coming up to me” Scylla snarked, eyes not wavering from the Gryffindor who couldn’t seem to hold the same eye contact.

“I can’t believe you roped my girlfriend into this as well” Scylla went on when the brunette couldn’t seem to speak up,” The only reason I haven’t left yet is because I am curious about what prompted you to corner me in this classroom. So speak.”

Hermione narrowed her eyes at the tone used but chose not to comment on it,” I gather that Y/n has told you about what happened the other night.”

Scylla didn’t answer and the brunette took that as an affirmation,” Was this some kind of a sick joke to her?”

Hermione internally cursed herself for asking that when she saw Scylla’s eyes widen before blazing with something akin to anger,” If you are here to bloody shit on her, I suggest you stop right now before I do something that will make me end up in detention.”

Scylla made a move to leave when Hermione spoke up again,” Wait!” She sighed,” If this was all serious and no joke, why won’t she trust me enough to let me know what’s going on?”

Scylla turned back around and looked the Gryffindor up and down before answering,” If it wasn’t a joke to you, why won’t you trust her enough to let her keep secrets?”

The Slytherin raised an eyebrow when Hermione fell silent.

“You aren’t an authority she answers to Granger. Remember that.”

“Do you know?” Hermione asked after a beat, just as Scylla was out the door of the classroom. The Slytherin stopped midway and her answer was a kick to Gryffindor’s gut.

” No. But I don’t abandon people for things they aren’t ready to tell”.

***

Y/n was about to leave McGonagall’s class when the said professor interrupted her,” Hope you continue to work hard Ms. Y/l/n. You’ve made really good progress and I would suggest you maintain and push forward”.

The glint in the professor’s eyes had more meaning than what was spoken out and Y/n was able to grasp that quite well.

“And please, do give yourself a sufficient amount of rest”.

Y/n gave the older witch a weak smile, before making her way back to the dorms.

I wish it was that easy Professor…

***

“Hermione, what’s up with Slytherin’s best friend glaring at you all week?” Ron asked as he stuffed his face with chicken.

Harry scrunched up his face in disgust a little before looking at Hermione who seemed lost in her own world. He nudged her a little,” Hey, you good?”

Hermione startled awake, as if she was asleep this whole time and looked around,” Pardon?”

Ron furrowed his eyebrows and shared a look with Harry before reiterating his question again.

Hermione stole a glance towards the Slytherin table before focusing her gaze on her dinner.

She noticed the red rimmed eyes and eye bags under the Slytherin’s eyes, making her heart ache a little.

Was she the cause of that?

She averts her eyes quickly when the Slytherin Prefect meets her eyes across the hall.

She bites her tongue and chews on the inside of her mouth, contemplating on how to break the news to the boys about what had happened a week ago.

“Hermione, what is it?” Harry asked, sensing the inner turmoil. Rom immediately jumped to the worst conclusions and became livid,” Did she betray you? Hurt you? Oh i’m going to kill that bi-”

“Ron, stop” Hermione finally uttered, eyes still not lifting up,” We had an argument, that’s all. Scylla probably doesn’t like the way I reacted to the situation. We mi-”

She stopped herself midway, deciding she can tell them her problems later and focus on what is more important,” Forget it, we have other things to discuss” .

Both the boys wanted to argue with her but her tone told them the decision was final.

***

“Hey, Y/n where are you going now?” Scylla asked, Draco stopping mid-step as well,” We have patrolling duty, remember?”

Y/n didn’t stop walking but still slowed her pace down,” Oh, I have to study. I’m running a bit behind on some of the assignments. Cover the shift for me please”

Before both the Slytherins could say anything else, the (y/h/c) girl was out of sight.

They just shrugged at each other before continuing on their way.

***

Y/n rushed through the hallway to Umbridge’s office, one of the other Squad members having found her in the library, saying it was important and that Umbridge wanted all of them there.

She opened the heavy door, panting lightly,” I apologize for the tardiness Headmistress”

“Oh, it’s no problem. You are right on time actually. Make sure none of them move a muscle” Umbridge commanded in her high squeaky voice that always managed to grate on Y/n’s nerves.

That was when Y/n was able to take in the situation inside the room, which had just a bit too much pink for her liking. She could see why the meeting was suddenly so important.

Her eyes fell on Harry who seemed bound to the chair with Umbridge taunting every single thing that the boy answered.

Umbridge turned to her for a second,” What are you just standing there for? Get to work.”

Y/n quickly got hold of the Gryffindor brunette beside her and held her hands tightly behind her back. She pulled the bookworm to the corner of the room, a little away from Umbridge and the rest of the squad but the room being tiny made that a bit of a challenging task.

“Get your hands off her, you bitch!” Ron shouted, struggling against Blaise’s hold.

“I’d watch what I say if I were you, Weasley” Y/n hissed.

Hermione did prove a lot stronger than she looked and Y/n had to do everything in her power to not accidentally hurt the Gryffindor witch while not letting go of her hold on her. After having tolerated a couple seconds, she stomped her foot on Hermione’s to effectively get her attention.

“Stop struggling for a second and listen.” Y/n whispered. Hermione was about to protest but something in her told to comply,” I want you to stay still for sometime and let me think of a way to get you all out of this, alright?”

But before the Slytherin could even figure out an escape plan, Hermione yelled, “Stop!”

Umbridge was a moment away from using the cruciatus curse but Hermione’s shout caught her attention right at the nick of time.

“Hermione, no!” Harry yelled desperately.

“What are you doing Granger” Y/n hisses under her breath, her grip on Hermione’s arm tightening subconsciously but Hermione paid her no mind.

“We have to…”

“Well, tell me! I don’t have all day!” Umbridge exclaimed, looking at Hermione menacingly.

The Gryffindor took a deep breath before answering,” We-We were trying to find Professor Dumbledore.”

Umbridge raised an eyebrow in interest,” Dumbledore you say…And child, why were you trying to contact the former headmaster?”

Scylla looked at Y/n in question as if asking her to somehow shut Hermione up but she was as clueless as anyone else in the room.

Hermione made a show of having an internal conflict as she answered,” Dumbledore asked us to make a weapon. We had to inform him that it’s ready…”

Umbridge grinned, a sinister glint appearing in her eyes. She looked around the room and cleared her throat,” You and Mr. Potter will lead me to this weapon. Immediately.”

The pink toad then turned to Draco and Y/n specifically,” Make sure no one leaves this room until we return.”

As Y/n let Hermione go, she looked at the Gryffindor with uncertainty. The bookworm seemed to catch on and sent a quick glance towards the Slytherin, in hopes of reassuring the girl a bit.

Y/n leaned back on the wall, looking at each and every occupant of the room properly and could clearly see the questions laced in Ginny and Ron’s faces as they looked back at her.

She just sighed and closed her eyes for the time being.

***

Draco paced around the room, grinning with mischief and satisfaction,” I can’t wait until you Weasleys are expelled. You have been stinking this castle up way too much”

“Shut up” Ron growled and looked like he would’ve pounced on the Platinum blonde boy if it wasn’t for Blaise restraining him.

Seeing how none of them could physically harm him, Draco went on,” You guys are just as bad as theMudbloods, blood traitors!”

Y/n opened her eyes and narrowed them at her cousin in warning,” Draco.”

Before Draco could continue, Hermione and Harry came through the door, panting.

With no Umbitch behind them.

And that’s when chaos erupted.

Both the groups started fighting each other in any way they could, Luna kicked Gayle in the shins, Ginny punched Draco in his stomach and a lot more that just couldn’t be deciphered clearly.

Y/n discreetly removed herself from the main fight and stood at the corner of the room. Her eye caught the fireplace before glancing at Potter’s group.

The only way they could get to wherever they had to go was if the Squad wasn’t there.

Duratus Artus…”

Suddenly, every Slytherin in the room froze in their spots. None could move any of their muscles except for their eyes.

The other group looked around in confusion, freaked out by the sudden magic spell that seemed to only affect the Squad.

But regardless of it, they decided to seize the moment and made their way to the fireplace. Though just before stepping in, Hermione stole one glance at the Slytherin prefect in the corner and couldn’t help the small knowing smile that grazed her face before getting engulfed by green flames.

***

Y/n paced the hallways near Umbridge’s office. It helped that it was Slytherin’s night for patrol, so she could stay out without getting in too much trouble.

But that was the last thing on her mind at that moment.

“Your pacing isn’t going to make them come any faster” Scylla yawned as she got dizzy looking at her best friend,”Y/n sit down, you are going to give me a headache”.

But all words went to deaf ears.

Y/n was lost in her own world, arms crossed across her chest and eyes never being taken off the tiles.

It was past four in the morning when Y/n heard something down the hall. She took out her wand and shook Scylla awake,” Wake up!”

“W-What, What!?” Scylla sputtered, eyes still half closed.

“There’s someone over there” Y/n whispered harshly, having her wand at-the-ready as she approached the noise, Scylla closing following behind.

“It can’t be them, they would have had to cross the hallway we were in if they returned…right?” Y/n whispered, not really expecting a reply.

Both of them hid behind the wall around the curve when they heard familiar voices. Their eyes widened before they turned the corner.

“You’ve returned!” The Slytherin prefect exclaimed before running towards Hermione, engulfing her in a tight hug. The gryffindor was shocked for a second before squeezing back just as tight.

They weren’t sure how long the hug lasted for but a clearing of the throat made them spring apart. Dumbledore looked at them amused before taking his departure.

Scylla looked at Harry who looked like he had seen a ghost and approached him,” You alright there, Potter?”

Harry absent mindedly nodded before Ron and Neville forced him towards the Gryffindor tower.

Ginny turned back to look at Hermione in silent question to which she replied,” You go on ahead, I’ll be there in a minute.”

“I’ll take my leave as well, I really need sleep” Scylla yawned before making her way to the Slytherin dungeons.

The remaining girls looked at each other for a couple seconds before Y/n spoke up,” I should probably go to sleep as well.”

Her face was back to being neutral but before she could turn her back Hermione stopped her,” Wait”

Y/n turned towards the brunette, tilting her head in question.

“You clearly have something that you want to spit out”

Y/n narrowed her eyes at the brunette, not liking the fact that someone could read her that well.  This was dangerous.

“Well? Are you just going to stand there?” Hermione prodded, crossing her arms across her chest.

Y/n just stared for a silent minute before huffing,” Astronomy Tower. Now.”  She didn’t wait to see if the brunette followed but the footsteps that soon resonated against her own was indication enough.

The walk to the tower had been a quiet one. Hermione’s confidence slowly withered in the silence she had to endure in the company of the Slytherin who somehow felt close yet unfamiliar.

And having the voice in her head being the only audible company did nothing to ease her nerves about their relationship. If there was still something left of it.

The (Y/h/c) girl opened the door and looked at the brunette expectantly. Hermione furrowed her eyebrows for a second before understanding what that gesture meant.

“Right, sorry.”

Y/n entered right after and locked the door behind her. Still with no verbal communication, she strode towards the balcony and stood beside the window, closing her eyes as a breeze brushed past her.

Hermione took a moment and just let herself enjoy the view in front of her, trying not to give into the tears stinging at the back of her eyes as she remembered she might never see this again.

Feelthis again.

When the Gryffindor finally got the courage to face her fate, the Slytherin prefect turned towards her.

She took a deep breath before hitting Hermione’s shoulder harshly. Hermione stumbled back in surprise but stopped short of whatever was bubbling up her throat when she noticed the tears glistening in Y/n eyes.

“Y/n-”

“No! You don’t get to Y/n me right now.” Y/n inhaled sharply,” Tell me, where did you all sneak off to?”

Hermione stuttered, not expecting the tone the (y/h/n) girl used against her,” Uhm, uh, the ministry…”

“TheMINISTRY!?” Y/n’s eyes bulged out,” At this hour!? At this period of time with the Minister being cuckoo and Umbitch here,as part of the ministry!?”

Hermione didn’t get a chance to tell her side of the story before Y/n plunged into hysterics,” Are you fucking out of your mind, Hermione!? What were you thinking!? What could be so bloody important that you had to sneak off to the ministry FROM UMBITCH’S OFFICE!”

“I-”

“You don’t know a bloody thing do you-”

” Y/n-”

“ Do you understand how dangerous that-”

The Gryffindor finally lost her patience and grabbed the Slytherin by her shoulders, shaking her until she stopped rambling her head off. The sudden jerk seemed to pull the girl out of her spiral and take a moment to breathe.

Hermione took that opportunity to speak, reliving moments that she wished she could erase from her memory forever.

The more she narrated, the more quiet the Slytherin prefect became, processing everything being thrown at her.

“… We got ambushed. Lucius Malfoy and other death eaters. Bellatrix was there too…”

Y/n couldn’t hold in the gasp this time,’ Lucius and Aunt Trixie were there…no…merlin, no….” She steadied herself against the wall, eyes unseeing anything in front of them. It seemed like the severity of the night had just sunk into her.

Hermione paused, though she didn’t look up at the Slytherin.

She didn’t have to, the tremors in the girl’s voice was enough to tell her there was more to unpack in that tiny phrase. Things that she lost the right to learn about the last time they were in the tower together.

She wiped the stray tears away quickly, before the other prefect could notice them. She didn’t know if it was because of her guilt and ache for the Slytherin or because of everything that had transpired just a couple hours prior.

“Yeah… the whole package huh, definitely took us by surprise” the Gryffindor chuckled weakly after a moment, trying to lighten the mood. Y/n looked up at the brunette, eyes looking a little more alive and gave a small nod.

Hermione took that as a cue to continue and let out a shuddering breath,” …It was scary Y/n/n… We were chased and hunted like prey. And in the end we were caught” Her voice became quieter by the second,” all of us were gravely injured. I thought we were done for.”

Y/n could feel her heart become heavy as she listened on.

“If it-if it wasn’t for the Order….. None of us would be here right now.”

Hermione turned towards the Slytherin, tears coating her cheeks as her lips trembled,” I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Y/n.”

Y/n furrowed her eyebrows at the sudden apology but was soon answered.

“The moment when one of the death eaters had a wand to my neck, the only thought that struck out was how we left things. HowI left off things. And how i might never be able to apologize or let you know that i did not mean anything that i said that night, that i do trust you, that i-”

“Granger.”  Y/n  interrupted ,”I forgive you.”

“You..do?” Hermione blinked in disbelief.

Y/n sighed as she leaned against the wall and closed her eyes briefly,” Yeah. I won’t be able to forget it though. Or say that I wasn’t hurt. “ She looked at the brunette,” because I was. And I might not be able to trust you completely any time soon either, not when you have your own doubts which I don’t blame you for.”

Before Hermione could completely lose the hope in her eyes, she continued,” But, I am ready to work through that with you, if you want.”

It took Hermione a full second to process what was implied before she broke into something that sounded like a choked sob and exclamation at the same time.

The Gryffindor cleared her throat, sniffling a little,” Yeah. I would love that.”

Silence fell over them once again as they listened to the early morning chirping of birds before something struck Hermione. She looked pensively at the slytherin who had her eyes closed again.

“I can feel you staring, Princess.”

Hermione bit her lip to hide the smile that threatened to creep up at hearing that god awful nickname again. Who knew she’d actually miss it.

“What is it?” Y/n asked before she finally took in the injuries that coated the brunette’s body and pursed her lips,” We need to treat those first.”

Hermione brushed her off,” Slight bruises, they don’t need immediate attention. But I wanted to ask. Are you now allowed to tell me what you were hiding?”

Y/n stared at her for a while, as if her eyes were boring into her soul.

Without another word, the Slytherin stood up and walked towards the door.

‘Did I step on a boundary already?’ Hermione chided herself before moving to stop the girl she just got back.

But the slytherin stopped on her own and stood in the center of the room. She could feel the confusion emitting from the Gyffindor and proceeded not to delay it any further.

Y/n closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

Hermione’s eyes widened as she observed. Once where her girlfriend was standing, now stood a tigress.

Hermione stumbled back in surprise before looking in awe.

The tigress sat down, patiently waiting for the Gryffindor to get her bearings back. The girl’s eyes wandered all over the tigress, trying to grasp what was being shown to her.

After a moment the brunette slowly approached the animal, hands running through the soft fur causing the tigress to close her eyes and lean into the touch,” You are beautiful.”

The tigress chuffed, causing Hermione to snort,”Your welcome.”

After taking a couple more seconds to admire the majestic creature towering over her she pulled away and Y/n took that as a sign to turn back to her human form,” That was what I was hiding.”

Hermione nodded, still in awe, before another question made itself present,“Why?”

“McGonagall didn’t want anyone knowing. If word got out, who knows what Umbridge and the ministry would’ve done.” Y/n shuddered just thinking about it,” And I myself did not want anyone knowing. I would rather keep this information out of the ears of anyone, in fear of it reaching my family.”

Y/n didn’t need to continue, Hermione understood the implication and the hidden motives in the Slytherin’s answer.

“Thank you”

Y/n just shrugged before pointing at the brunette’s arm,” You want to get that dressed or would you rather bleed to death?”

Time was a very weird concept. How it could feel fast yet very slow was something beyond Y/n’s comprehension. Though every time she felt like analyzing it, the thoughts would drift away to a time that she’d rather not live again.

She looked out the window at the countryside they were currently passing through as Eira calmly purred on her lap. It was nearing sunset so the sky was a beautiful shade of yellow and purple with clouds scattered all over. The light green meadows and dark green hills made her sigh in content, wondering if a bushy-haired Gryffindor was also enjoying this serenity or had her nose buried in some book she smuggled from the restricted section.

Draco looked at her with furrowed brows to which she just rolled her eyes and waved him off. He rolled his eyes back at her in reply and went about talking some shit that she didn’t have the energy to pay attention to. She knew it wasn’t any good anyway.

She closed her eyes and rested her head against the window briefly.

It was thunderstorming. Y/n could hear her heart pounding in her ears. She knew what awaited her once she reached her destination and she did not have much time to stall, like she was doing at the moment.

A faint sound made her look towards the hall’s entrance with baited breath. She clutched the floo powder tightly before loosening her grip when no movement could be detected towards where she stood.

This was exactly why she could not stall anymore.

Grabbing a handful of powder she took a deep breath and stepped inside the fireplace.

“12 Grimmauld Place”

Her voice was all but a whisper. Letting out the shaky breath she was holding in, she let the floo powder fall.

She had cast the muffliato spell in the hall as soon as she had entered and could only hope that no one in the house took notice of her absence. And hopefully she’d be back by noon so that she could be excused as having gone for a walk in the woods.

Floo travel wasn’t her go-to travel method, she’d much rather fly on a broom. But alas, she couldn’t have muggles spotting her and it would be quite a long journey. Not to mention, the utmost secrecy of what she was doing from everyone around her.

It just took a second, but the second was a whirlwind before she landed in the dusty fireplace of the old manor. A coughing fit caught hold of her, courtesy to not having travelled through floo much and also the extra layer of dust that always seems to plague this place.

By the time she had opened her eyes, quite an audience had assembled to see who had tumbled through the old fireplace in the wee hours before the crack of dawn.

And before she could even find words to utter, she had several wands to her throat.

“Who are you?” Tonks asked, making sure to stare the intruder down.

Once the facade of her calmness came back to her, she answered in a polite manner but her voice still held a bite,” Greetings to you too, cousin.”

Nymphadora only narrowed her eyes even more before someone pushed her aside. Quite a tired-looking Sirius Black came within her vision, limping a little due to the new metal leg he had procured from the fight in the ministry not that long ago.

Y/n lifted her eyes quick enough before it could be considered “rude” to stare at his injury,” Greetings to you as well, uncle.”

He just stared at her for a couple more seconds before nodding his in acknowledgement.

“Sirius, who is this intruder?” Arthur Weasley asked, eyes flickering back and forth between the two of them.

Sirius sighed, glancing at the girl once more in case she wanted to be the one who answered but her silence was enough to convey the message,” This is Y/n Y/l/n. A distant cousin’s daughter.”

“How am I related to you?” Tonks questioned, finally lowering her wand but still keeping it ready,” I’d like to know in detail.”

“Yes, Y/n , tell us.” George chimed in,” Details are very important of course” and Fred finished.

Y/n hadn’t interacted with the twins directly but their friendly teasing tone to a stranger unnerved her. However, she ignored that and answered,” Do you know someone named Nagai Y/l/n? Your mom and her were quite close as far as I recollect, along with aunt Cissy.”

A look of recognition falls upon Tonks,” Yes, she’s a name I’ve heard a couple times in my life.”

“Splendid. I’m her daughter.” Y/n did not bat an eye to the gawking expression a few were giving her in the room, simply turning her attention to Sirius Black.

She noticed Lupin standing at the back of the room was analyzing her. She expected that much and didn’t let it bother her much.

“She’s also the Slytherin Prefect by the way” a voice called out, turning out to be the redhead’s she has grown to know quite well, even if it wasn’t through direct interactions.

“You still hold that against me, I see.” Y/n rolled her eyes in annoyance.

“Why, of course, it is. It’s vital information if you ask me. Gives a lot more perspective to your…” he paused, a look of disgust taking over,” upbringing, to put it lightly.”

Y/n just narrowed her eyes at the boy before her attention was diverted by Arthur speaking,” Uhm, Ms. Y/l/n. You still haven’t stated your purpose for a visit this late into the night”

“Yes, dear. What are you doing here? And Sirius, why are you so quiet?” Molly asked, finally breaking her silence.

Molly was on guard with having someone from Black’s side of the family standing in the room, but she couldn’t ignore that this was a child as well.

“Would you like to state your purpose for the visit in front of everyone?” Sirius asked, turning to you.

You nodded,” I want to join the order.”

It was dead silent in the room. Y/n trained herself to look everyone in the eye, just like she had been taught to since she was a child.

“And why do you want that?” Lupin asked, slowly walking towards where the slytherin was standing, still covered in soot right outside the fireplace.

“Because I want to defeat Voldemort.”

Lupin’s and frankly every adult’s surprise at Dark Lord’s name spoken without hesitation was evident.

Lupin cleared his throat before continuing,“And what about your family?”

“They know nothing of this. And I am going to keep it that way until I finally cannot.”

There was a fire in Y/n’s eyes that Lupin could not ignore. He glanced at Tonks who looked like she was waiting for him to finish his bit before she could jump in.

And once he relaxed his stance a bit, she took over,” And what use would you propose you have to us?”

“That’s a bit crass” Molly muttered which Y/n caught and fought against a smirk.

Y/n raised her eyebrow, surprised by the subtle hostility but secretly also liking this discussion,” I’ll be the mole you will need to help you stay on the same step or even a step ahead of the Dark Lord. Even if it doesn’t let you stay on the same step as him, it can never hurt to have someone on the inside.”

Tonks bit her lip, knowing that Y/n made a good point which was hard to refute.

“And how do we know you can be trusted?” she finally asked after the moment of silence had passed.

But this time Y/n turned to Black, letting him answer it instead, which he caught on to,” She has agreed to be questioned under the influence of the truth serum. Which is what we should be getting on to, without further delay as I understand you can’t be away for long”

“Wait, you didn’t mention that!” a voice exclaimed in surprise from the back of the room. And that was when Y/n finally laid eyes upon the Gryffindor who she’d been dreaming of finally reuniting with.

Everyone turned to the bushy haired brunette in surprise when Molly asked,” You know her?”

Hermione looked Y/n dead in the eye as she answered,” She’s my girlfriend Mrs.Weasley.”

“What?” Everyone except Ron and Y/n let out.

“You know, I was expecting this to happen sooner. Shouldn’t you have been the one to introduce me” Y/n asked, folding her arms across her chest as she narrowed her eyes at the Gryffindor.

Hermione just shrugged,” I wanted you to handle them on your own. Now, what is this about a truth serum?”

The Slytherin reached inside her coat and produced a small vial of what looked like Veritaserum. She walked to Sirius and handed it to him.

“What? But why are you guys doing this? Can’t just questioning her regularly be enough?” Hermione asked, not quite happy with the way they were being sceptical about her girlfriend, her rational mind unusually being overpowered by her emotional one.

“Hermione, this is-” Lupin started before getting cut off by the Slytherin herself.

“Did you trust me the very first time you met me as someone from Slytherin or someone who was related to the Malfoys, Granger?” She asked, raising her eyebrow and nodding when she was met with silence,” Exactly.”

“Where did you get the serum?” Sirius asked, eyeing the vial carefully.

“Father has a cabinet filled with potions for different purposes. I knew where he kept the veritaserum and sneaked in a vial.”

“And what’s the proof it’s real?” Ron asked, though this time his voice wasn’t malicious. Y/n still glared,” Do you hold some sort of a grudge against me, Weasley?”

“No! That was a genuine question!” Ron exclaimed, having not meant to be offensive, no matter how sceptical he was.

Y/n just hummed before answering,” Fair enough. Uncle Sirius, is there any house-elf around here?”

He nodded before calling for Kreature who arrived immediately.

“Kreature, see if this is veritaserum or not.”

The elf took the vial in his hand and examined it thoroughly, twirling it in the air a little and performing a few more tests that only he understood before handing the vial back to Sirius.

“It is real, Master, Kreature is sure”

Y/n looked at the crowd in expectation,” So shall we get started?”

But right before they were all going to leave the living room and head to the conference room, a voice wandered in.

“Is that little mistress Dobby hears?”

Y/n froze in her steps, not believing the voice she heard before turning towards the room’s entrance.

And when the little head with huge eyes found her, she almost couldn’t control her tears.

Almost.

Instead, she took a deep breath,” Hello Dobby.” She gave a small smile.

The huge giddy smile that Dobby gave her back made her want to sprint to him and crush him in a bear hug. But she couldn’t. She had a reputation to uphold.

She can’t be vulnerable.

“Little mistress is here…” he happily sighed, clasping his hands together in joy.

Merlin, was she glad that Dobby hadn’t run up to her and given her a hug either, she knew she wouldn’t have been able to refuse him.

“Has Dobby been sneaking some cupcakes?” The Slytherin asked, confusing everyone present around her. But Dobby understood.

“No, little mistress. They give Dobby cupcakes here.” The little elf answered. It was a sentence both of them did not think they’d ever hear but they were glad to have been proven wrong.

“That is lovely, Dobby.” Y/n nodded before looking at the adults again, indicating on continuing where they left.

“I gather you know Dobby already” Tonks commented, looking at the two of you for a moment before heading towards the conference room.

Hermione fell in step with the (Y/h/c) girl as they left,” What was that?”

Y/n just shrugged before going to the conference room. Just as Hermione was about to enter, Lupin stopped her at the door,” I think it would be better if you waited out here.”

“W-What?” Hermione stuttered, taken aback.

Lupin looked inside the room before looking back at the brunette,” No children inside, Ms.Granger. Your girlfriend would be fine.” He then turned to the Slytherin,” Ms. Y/l/n, if you would please.”

Y/n nodded and went straight ahead, without sparing a glance towards the grumpy gryffindor.

The interrogation did not take a long while. The adults in the Order questioned the Slytherin, at some point even brutally but knowing that her answers were honest and she genuinely wanted to help defeat the evil her family worshipped, they knew she was a good one.

But being the playful bastard that Sirius was, he didn’t want her to know she was officially part of the order.

“Ms. Y/l/n, thanks for showing interest in our work, but I’m afraid we must erase your memories.”

Y/n blinked, not sure if she was hearing right,” Pardon?”

“We just don’t think we can trust you. What if you are under the imperious curse right at this moment and are deceiving us. We cannot have anyone suspicious here and that includes you, I’m afraid.”

Sirius had thought his pranking days had been over and that he would be rusty but seeing the Slytherin’s reaction, he knew he still had it in him.

“And it would be better if we modified your memories with Hermione as well, so as to not complicate anything. That is the only way left.” Lupin joined in, knowing what his best friend was up to.

Y/n gaped for a solid moment before breaking out of her trance,” I do not consent.”

“What?”

“ I said, I do. Not. consent.” Y/n spoke, as she grit her teeth so as to not to lose her temper.

She huffed before getting up from her seat,” I am sorry that you do not trust me. And I wish I could tell you I’d break up with Hermione for the cause, but I’m afraid I cannot. I will not give up on us. A few months ago, I might’ve, but not now. And I hope you understand.”

Dusting her cloak slightly, she bid her farewell,” I’ll take leave of you now. Goodnight.”

Just as she was about to move towards the door, she noticed how no one in the room had protested against her statements and were…actually smiling.

She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and Molly couldn’t help but bring the girl into a bear hug,” Oh, you little sweetheart! You are here to stay, don’t worry. These two were just pulling your leg.”

Y/n stood uncomfortably in the hug, not used to so much affection or gentle-touch and Arthur seemed to notice, causing him to chuckle at his wife,” Would you let the poor girl go now or squeeze all the air out of her?”

“Oh shush!” Molly retorted, breaking the hug.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get used to these hugs soon enough.” Sirius whispered, giving a gentle smile before retiring for bed, just like all the adults were doing.

“Oh dear, have you had anything to eat? Would you like something warm?” Molly asked, turning around right before she exitted as well. And before Y/n could answered, she answered it herself,” Let me warm up a nice cup of hot chocolate. I suggest you stay the night here and leave when the sun is out. Your excuse of going on a walk might work better then.”

And yet again, before the slytherin could give any sort of reply, Molly had left for the kitchen.

“Hot chocolate sounds nice.” Hermione commented, intertwining her arms around yours.

Y/n just gave a small smile as she shrugged, not knowing how to react to this behaviour. Hermione seemed to notice, but she didn’t comment which Y/n was grateful about.

“Little mistress?”

Both the girls turned around, seeing Dobby standing in the hallway.

“You do know I was never actually your mistress right? Especially not now.” Y/n teased.

“Y/n Y/l/n will always be little mistress to Dobby.” The house-elf smiled.

Y/n turned to look at her girlfriend who seemed to understand these two wanted a little alone time and left the corridor wordlessly.

The Slytherin stalked towards Dobby and knelt down,” Are you really alright here, Dobby?”

“Dobby would never lie.” Dobby’s face held a sadder expression,” Is little mistress alright?”

The girl didn’t have the heart to lie to the elf who was one of the closest beings she had in her life but she didn’t want him worrying and telling anyone here either. So she just shrugged.

Dobby frowned before gently grabbing the Slytherin’s hand, pulling the sleeve up, uncovering multiple bruises. They didn’t look very fresh but they weren’t that old either.

“Dobb-”

“Still?” Dobby interrupted.

Yet again the girl shrugged,” it’s just the regular duelling bruises….and a couple punishment ones for not doing well but that isn’t anything new, Dobby. You know that.”

“Dobby knows, that’s why it hurts Dobby more.” The elf whispered, his eyes filling with tears.

And finally giving into her urge of having not held the elf in a long while, she hugged him tight.

“They are good people, Mistress.”

Y/n loosed the hug, looking at the elf as he spoke,” Harry Potter’s friends. You don’t need to pretend here.”

The slytherin smiled slightly but her face still held sadness as the tears in her eyes begged to be released,” That might be so, but maybe I’ve been pretending long enough to actually become some of my lies.”

“Dobby doesn’t believe that, and he won’t let little mistress believe so either.” His voice was resolute, causing the teenager to chuckle.

“As you say, Dobby.”

Unbeknownst to both of them, there was Hermione nearby, accidentally having overheard their conversation as she held both of their hot chocolate in her hands.

She couldn’t decide if she was happy or sad for Y/n. She hadn’t been able to hear all of their conversation but she knew it wasn’t anything happy. She could make out that much from the few words she got here and there.

She gave them a couple more minutes before entering the hallway,” Hey..”

Y/n quickly wiped whatever tears she had lingered on her lashes and turned around.

“Dobby shall leave now. Take care little mistress.” And with that, he was gone.

“Let’s go to my room? You look like you could use some rest.” Hermione gave a small smile as she handed the Slytherin her mug of hot chocolate.

Her girlfriend hesitated and it didn’t go unnoticed by the Gryffindor.

Understanding the silent question on the brunette’s face, the Slytherin prefect spoke up,” Would it be alright with you if we spent time in the living room?”

“Do you not want to sleep? I can see the dark circles under your eyes, Y/n/n.” Hermione inquired, curious by this sudden request.

But Y/n shook her head,” I am tired, that cannot be denied. But I would like to spend some time with you before I leave, instead of sleeping it away.”

The reason warmed Hermione’s heart and her giddy smile gave away her happiness, which Y/n wasn’t that appreciative of,” What? Is it not natural to want to spend time with one’s partner?”

She looked away at a random corner while scowling to hide her blush. She wasn’t one to be sappy and even when she was, she would much rather have that be unmentioned.

“I don’t mind. Come on, I’ll get the fireplace going.” Hermione offered as she handed Y/n her mug of hot chocolate overloaded with marshmallows.

“That’s quite an amount.” Y/n gestured at the marshmallows before taking a seat on the carpet.

Hermione would lie if she said she wasn’t surprised by the elite sitting on the floor,” Why are you sitting on the floor? There’s an armchair right there.”

But all the Slytherin did was shrug and pat the space beside her,” It’s cosy. Come quick.”

It was quite for a while, only the crackle of the fire filling the room. The girls didn’t mind, it helped quite their minds.

“What was that you said to Dobby?” Hermione asked out of nowhere. It seemed like she had been trying to decipher that for a while.

Y/n chuckled,” It’s our way of asking if he’s alright. I came up with it when I was about five years old. I would ask if he snuck some cupcakes which meant if he had gotten himself into any trouble trying to find some freedom within his enslavement. Or just to ask if he had done something not right to try to be happy, in some simpler sense.”

“And he said we give him cupcakes,” Hermione stated, the question imbedded in it to which the Slytherin nodded.

“Yes. That meant he didn’t have to get in trouble to be free anymore. Or break rules to live his life. It was the first time ever he used it, I believe.”

Hermione was hesitant to ask, but still went ahead with it,” What would he usually say?”

Y/n didn’t take her eyes off of the fire,” Initially, around the time we coined these phrases he would say,’ Yes little Mistress, I tried to.’ But as time went on and Uncle’s punishments became crueller, he would always say,’ There are no cupcakes to sneak’ ”.

“Where is Harry, Hermione?” she continued.

Hermione noted how the Slytherin had used the boy’s first name but decided not to mention it,” Uh, he’s at his Aunt’s place.”

Without pausing for long, Y/n turned to face Hermione, her face almost looking terrified,’ ‘Mione, you need to be more cautious. Things are going to get a lot worse.”

It irked Hermione that she couldn’t even enjoy the nickname from her girlfriend since the matter she referred to seemed….worrisome.

“The Dark Lord is back, of course, things are going to get a lot worse.” Hermione quipped.

But her girlfriend shook her head, as if she wasn’t able to see what she truly meant. How could she? She knew nothing.

“No. That’s not what I mean. Something is going to happen this year at Hogwarts. Something big. And probably not something anyone would be prepared for.” She had observed her relatives to know they had something unwraps.

“Then why are you being so cryptic? Aren’t you to work as our informer now?” Hermione queried. But the Slytherin looked pained when she replied.

“ Yes. But even I don’t know what it is yet.”

Well, she did know now, Y/n thought.

She glanced at her brother’s arm for a second when a smoke bomb exploded in their compartment.

Once the smoke had cleared up, she could see that Draco was a bit more riled up with the sudden surprise.

A moment after, Draco went back to yapping about how horrible Hogwarts was and how stupid their headmaster is. He came close to revealing their secret when she effectively glared at him and made him stop.

Catching himself, he changed the direction of his sentence and gave a more vague one. That’s when something caught her eye.

She looked up at the compartment, feeling like something had moved.

It took her a minute before she connected the dots. And one look at her brother, it seemed like the movement had caught his eye too.

Dear Merlin. You are such an idiot Potter’ she cursed.

Once the train stopped, she tried to linger but caught her brother staying back as well.

“All well Draco?” she asked.

He just nodded,” Yeah, I just need to check something. You go ahead.”

“Do you need hel-”

“No. I said go ahead.” Draco insisted. Y/n gritted her teeth before getting off the train.

‘Dammit Potter’

She lingered on the side, at a blindspot waiting for her cousin to get off. She couldn’t even go and contact the Gryffindor Prefect in public.

Once he was off, she went inside to find Luna Lovegood already helping Harry up.

Seeing how he had company to take care of him, she left undetected, joining a random group of Slytherins to get back to the castle.

She waited in the common room for Draco to come back from dinner. Once he did, she made sure he stayed until the entire place was empty.

“What did you want?” the boy asked, confused.

Y/n made him sit beside her before she spoke,” You need to be more careful.”

Draco scowled, offended and quickly jumped to defend himself before his sister cut him off,” Stop. Draco, what you did was reckless! Prattling about-”

The girl stopped herself and lowered her voice,” about things that no one other than us should know about! Are you trying to get caught?”

One thing the boy absolutely hated was being talked down to, which his sister seemed to do always. And even though he knew she was right, he would never admit it,” Oh please. I handled that very well.”

After another thought, he continued,” And what if I did? They would only want to help us. Other than those pesky Gryffindors,no one wants Du-”

Y/n placed her hand on his mouth, effectively shushing him from continuing,” Are you in your fucking senses, you muttonhead!”

Not favouring her choice of insult Draco did the only thing that popped in his brain.

He licked her palm.

“Ew! You vile gargoyle, what childishness is this!?” Y/n exclaimed, internally gagging at the saliva that coated her palm before rubbing it off on her cousin’s robes.

“Well, you shouldn’t have called me a muttonhead.”

Y/n just gaped before scoffing,” I will call you what you are. Truth hurts, dear cousin.”

Shaking her head she continued,“We are going nowhere with this. Just shut your trap and carry out the mission properly, you hear me?”

“Since when did I start answering you?” Draco challenged, towering over his cousin with his arms crossed over his chest.

“Since I was born with more braincells than you.” Y/n answered, unfazed. Her cousin tended to be childish which was nothing new for her.

Growing a little red, Draco trudged up closer,” I think you are jealous that I was chosen. Not you, but me.”

Y/n just narrowed her eyes at him, biting any retort bubbling up her throat. None would help her.

Draco smirked at the lack of a reply before whistling back to his chambers,” Goodnight dear cousin.”

Y/n stared at the door to the boy’s dorms as Aunt Cissy’s voiced echoed in her head.

‘Take care of your brother for me Y/n. Please.’

She curled up her fists tightly as she tried to get her breathing to slow down.

“What mission?”

Startled out of her skin,Y/n turned around quicker than a whirlwind and came face to face with a raven-haired girl she had missed dearly.

“Good evening Scyl” she gave her a small smile, though not getting one in return.

“What mission, Y/n?” Scylla pressed, walking closer to the Slytherin prefect.

“It is nothing you need to worry about. I…” Y/n looked at the ceiling and took a deep breath before forcing a smile,” I got it under control.”

She tried walking past her best friend, not knowing if she should involve the other girl and potentially endanger her more than she already was when a hand caught hers.

She was pulled back quite forcefully before the same hand held her jaw and made her face the said girl,” No more. I am done with your secrets. I can see the cogs turning in your head and they are not good.”

When Y/n went to protest, she was effectively stopped before she could even begin,” No bullshit about trying to do whats best. I am in as much danger as you, whether I know what in this fucking world you are up to or not. So I would rather know.”

Staring at the resolution in the Slytherin’s eyes, the prefect relented. There was no stopping Scylla once she had her mind set. It was a miracle she hadn’t forced Y/n to spill her guts way before.

“Let’s go to my chambers.”

A/N:  I just want to say that I love this idea and I hope I wrote it well

———————————–

Stupid first years. That had been the only thing on your mind as you limped around the halls. You’d been trying to practice your animagus skills when you’d gotten sidetracked by a group of first years coming around the corner. They’d pet you and you pretended to enjoy it, purring at them and hoping they’d go away soon enough. That had been until one of them decided it was a good idea to pick you up from only one of your arms. With a cry you’d fallen to the ground and you’d been stuck as a cat for longer than you would’ve liked.

“George, look. A cat.” You heard someone’s voice. “I think it’s hurt.” The voice that you’d now realized was Fred Weasley said. “Oh you poor thing.” Fred’s vice startled you when it was right above you. With one hand he scooped you up and pet you between your eyes. You let out a hiss and bit Fred’s finger. “Ow! I’m trying to help you.” Fred whined and settled for carrying you with no other movements.

Out of all the people that could’ve found you, you hadn’t wanted it to be Fred. You’d had a crush on the boy for years, and this is the closest you’d ever been. You were sure Draco would be having a field day if he saw you. He knew just how your animagus form looked, and he’d known about your crush on the older Weasley twin ever since the both of you had become friends. You wanted nothing more than to rub yourself against his cheek as a thank you for him picking you up.

“What’s wrong with her?” George asked, both of the boys looking down at you on Fred’s bed. You stared back up at them, wishing you could somehow communicate what exactly you needed.

“I think it’s the arm? Maybe her paw.” Fred explained, gently probing your arm once again. “Oh!” He exclaimed when he’d finally found the problem. “Poor baby has a dislocated arm.” Fred diagnosed making your heart drop.

You’d hissed when he tried picking you up again, clawing at his hand with your good paw. A dislocated arm most likely meant you’d have a dislocated shoulder in your human form. You remembered the feeling the last time you’d had one and popping the bone back in place was never fun. With both of the twins coming at you at once you couldn’t fight them off, both of them throwing reassuring cooes your way while Fred put your arm back in place.

“See? That wasn’t so bad.” Fred scratched under your chin and you let out an involuntary purr, relaxing into him. “I think she’s saying thank you.” He laughed when you rubbed your head on his cheek. “I think I’ll keep you.” Fred pondered, sitting on his bed and placing you in his lap.  You crawled up his chest, sitting down while you looked down at him.

“What should we name her?” George asked, scratching the top of your head.

“Y/N.” Fred explained making you look at him in shock.

“What? Why?” George asked, voicing your thoughts.

“I don’t know.” Fred shrugged. “She just reminds of her.” He continued, petting your head all the way down to your tail. “What do you say Y/N?” Fred asked, earning a purr in response. “She likes it.” He smiled at his brother.

George made his way out of the room, muttering about how crazy his brother was under his breath. You’d tried changing back so you could thank Fred, but the dull pain when you walked let you know you’d be stuck for a while longer. You laid down on Fred’s chest and got comfortable, giving his chin a lick just to hear him laugh. You’d figured you’d make the most of the time you had left. Fred played with you until George came back in, declaring it was time for dinner.

“You can’t bring her with us.” George protested when he saw you in Fred’s arms.

“Don’t be mean. Poor thing probably hasn’t eaten. I’ll give her some food and bring her back.” Fred explained, both of them walking out of the Gryffindor common room. Fred continued to baby talk to you, and only stopped when Draco started walking in your direction.

“Have you lot seen Y/N?” Draco asked the twins, only for his eyes to land on you in Fred’s arms, a knowing smile forming on his face.

“No, she’s your best friend Malfoy, shouldn’t you know where she is?” George asked, and Draco moved closer to you.

“I just remembered.” Draco smiled. “Where’d you find a cat? I know your parents don’t have enough to get you one.” He explained and you hissed.

“She was limping around and we helped her.” Fred explained, ignoring his comment while Draco reached his hand out to pet you.

“Merlin.” Draco hissed pulling his hand away from you.

“She doesn’t like you.” Fred laughed as Draco shook his hand to stop the pain. “What a good girl.” Fred cooed down at you only making Draco smirk down at you. You would’ve bit him again if it weren’t for Fred holding you, and with a rough pat to your head Draco left.

You curled in Fred’s lap when he sat down in the Great Hall. At first you’d eaten some of the food held out for you, but you soon felt tired. With a purr you’d rubbed yourself against his stomach and your eyes felt heavier. Before you knew it, you were sound asleep in Fred’s lap.

“She’s so cute.” Ginny almost squealed but with Fred’s death glare she kept it quiet. She pet you softly and it seemed like everyone’s attention was on the cat in Fred’s lap.

Fred had stayed seated while the majority of the hall was being cleared out. He hadn’t wanted to wake you up, so all he did was sit and speak quietly to his siblings. Somehow through your nap you’d changed back into your human form, and it seemed on instinct that you curled further into Fred, getting comfortable on his lap and chest.

“Bloody hell!” Fred exclaimed, his hands raising up and away from himself when he finally took you in.

A/N: here’s part two :)

Summary: Winter holiday gets a bit interesting in the Slytherin common room

———————————–

“Y/N.” Draco smiled walking over to you. You felt trapped under his gaze and all you could do was stand there staring, wishing you could have seen him any other time than while you just woke up and were brushing your teeth. “For a while I started to think you’d gone home for the holiday.” He explained when he reached you, his thumb coming up to wipe the toothpaste that was about to fall from your chin. “Here.” He smiled, holding his cup out for you, making your eyes go wide and you shook your head.

No way were you going to embarrass yourself any further by spitting in the cup right in front of him. You tried to walk around him, but his hand holding your upper arm stopped you.

“I’m not letting you go back into hiding.” He gave your bottom lip a nudge with the lip of the cup. You scrunched your nose up and shook your head, pushing the cup away with your chin. “Oh come on Y/N. It’s just toothpaste.” Draco sighed making your jaw clench. He kept eye contact with you while you finally let the toothpaste in your mouth dribble out into the cup, and you couldn’t help the embarrassed blush that was surely painting itself over your entire body.

“Happy?” You quipped once it was all out. “Draco?” You breathed out his name in a question when his thumb cleaned the corners of your mouth. “What are you doing?” You asked, taking a step back when he finally let your arm go.

“I wanted to talk to you.” Draco explained, and you nodded so he could continue. “I wasn’t going to be here for the holiday.” He started, making your eyebrows knit together. “But I know that you never go home during holidays because your parents always hang around mine and you’re never there.” He continued making you feel like you were punched in the gut.

“What’s your point?” You crossed your arms, pinching your elbow to keep your cool.

“So I decided to stay to talk to you.” He explained and you sighed.

“About?” You asked, digging your nails into your skin. Your parents weren’t ever something you liked talking about. The fact Draco pointed out the only reason they don’t want you home is because they don’t want you around the other pureblood families was definitely hitting a nerve.

“Your letter.” He answered making you nod.

“What about my letter?” You asked, trying to have him get to the point. You felt like you’d been standing there for longer than needed for the short conversation that hadn’t seemed to go anywhere just yet.

“Well.” Draco started, taking a step closer causing you to stumble back a step. “Maybe about what you said.” He continued. “You know… about my eyes.” He smiled, staring at you. You couldn’t help but bite your bottom lip in anticipation, you stared into them against your better judgement, your death grip on your arm loosening just at the sight of them. “Are you getting lost in them right now?” He smirked, and you felt like someone had just thrown an ice cold water right in your face. You blinked and averted your eyes, your grip on your arm tightening once more.

“No.” You muttered, shifting your weight to your other foot.

“Come on Y/N, it was a joke.” Draco explained, grabbing your chin softly, turning your head so you could look at him. “I wanted to apologise for what Parkison di-” He started and you scoffed already having had enough. You didn’t let him finish, and you smacked his hand off of your chin.

“I don’t need your pity Malfoy.” You seethed, your eyes narrowing. “Just because Parkinson did what she did. You shouldn’t apologize for her. That’s not your job and it doesn’t change anything, and I don’t appreciate you leading me on to get your kicks.” You pulled away, walking in the direction back to your room.

This continued for the whole week. Draco would find you and corner you when you were least expecting it, trying to catch you off guard. Lucky for you, you had some sense to start carrying your wand around with you even in the common room. You weren’t ashamed to say you used a few spells to knock Draco on his ass to give you time to escape into the comforts of your room. He would and could have gone in after you if he really wanted to, but you both knew he wasn’t going to deny you the comfort of your room. He’d finally had enough when you sat at the opposite end of the great hall, and when you got up he followed.

“Y/N wait!” Draco called after you but you only walked faster, hoping you got to your room before he could get to you. “Y/N please!” He tried again but you still ignored him. “Petrificus Totalus!” Draco called out and you cursed to yourself when you couldn’t take another step.

He was in for it once he let you go. You wanted to shake your head, but you could, only being able to roll your eyes. You heard his footsteps coming up behind you, and when he finally came into view, you tried your best to glare at him even though you could only move your eyes.

“I know you’re mad, but you wouldn’t let me talk to you any other way.” He explained, and all you did was blink in response. “I’m sorry Y/N, really. Parkinson shouldn’t have read your letter to me, and she shouldn’t have spoken to you that way.” He continued, making you roll your eyes. You wanted to say so many things, itching to grab your wand and send him flying to the other side of the hall. “I really liked your letter.” He continued making your eyes go wide. “Don’t look so surprised.” He laughed shaking his head.

You wanted to ask so many things now that you knew he liked it. Did he like you back? Was he just saying he liked it but didn’t feel the same? What were you going to say later if he says he likes you back? What would you do if he said he didn’t?

“Y/N calm down. Your eyes are going to pop out of your head.” Draco explained making your eyes focus back on him. “I just wanted to say that I like you too, you know. I have for a while. All the things Parkinson said wasn’t true. I even asked your father for permission to date you two years ago.” Draco rambled, and your jaw would have hit the floor if it hadn’t been for the fact that you were stuck in place. “Okay…” He whispered, patting your hand before walking away leaving you stuck for a minute before you finally were able to move your legs.

The first thing you did was try and find him, but no matter where you went he seemed to be nowhere in sight. You even tried going to the common room but there was no sign that he had been there since that morning. With a frustrated groan you sat on the steps of the common room after a few rounds around what felt like the whole school. You dragged yourself to the couch, letting yourself rest your head on the armrest. You were going to wait until he got back even if you had to stay all night.

“Y/N wake up.” You heard while you were being shaken slightly. It hadn’t felt slightly, you almost jumped out of your skin when you felt hands on you. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s just me.” Draco’s voice filled your ears when you felt his hands cup your face. You blinked a few times before he came into focus, and you finally pushed him away from you.

“You scared me!” You exclaimed, your hand still over your chest.

“I’m sorry.” He laughed, while he watched you sit up. “I know the couch isn’t that comfortable. I just wanted to make sure you went to your room.” He explained before his eyebrows knitted together. “Why are you sleeping here anyway?” He asked, making you sigh and stretch.

“Well I was waiting for you.” You mumbled, rubbing your neck. “Thank you.” You smiled softly when his fingers took over and he rubbed your neck for you. “You like me?” You asked softly, looking over to him.

“Yes I do.” He nodded and turned you to face him. “We can get back at Parkinson when she comes back if you want.” Draco explained and you blushed.

“I took care of it.” You admitted sheepishly, and Draco gave you a questioning look. “I may have left a few things in her dorm for her to come back to…” You smirked, biting your lip to hold yourself from laughing. “All I’ll say is she’ll be very itchy and walk into a horrible smell.” You smiled, patting his chest with your hand before kissing his cheek softly.

———————————–

You were tired of keeping it to yourself after all these years. There was something that you had to do, and with winter break coming you thought it was a good time to do it. It was to your knowledge that Draco was going to be going home for the holiday for once, and you were finally finding the courage to get your feelings out there one way or another. You knew there was no way Draco would share your feelings, but if you didn’t tell him now, you would never forgive yourself. Making your way into the Slytherin common room, you sat down on the table and pulled out the first clear piece of parchment you could find, grabbing your quill and ink before getting to work.

“What is that?” Pansy’s voice pulled you from your thoughts, making you jump and quickly shove the paper into your notebook.

“Nothing.” You quickly sputtered out, standing up and grabbing your things before making your way to your room.

You heard her mutter behind you, but you weren’t going to stop, wanting everything you wrote on the paper to be kept a secret. Shoving your bag under your bed you let yourself take in a deep breath. Somehow it felt safer for you to have your belongings under your bed, and you allowed yourself to calm down fully. Getting ready for bed you pushed the swarming thoughts of just how Draco would take your letter to the back of your mind. You mumbled a good night to your dormmates when you crawled into bed, and you hoped that tomorrow would go smoothly.

“No, no, no.” You muttered to yourself, rummaging through your bag for the letter you’d written the night before.

“Y/N. I’d get in the common room if I were you.” Blaise’s voice came from your open door making you spin around. “It’s Parkinson.” Was all he said before he walked away making you dash out.

You almost tripped your way into the common room, pushing past everyone who was getting in the way before you stopped dead in your tracks. The flimsy piece of parchment you had used the night before was in Pansy’s hand, and she was headed straight for Draco. You wanted to run over and snatch it from her, but your feet seemed to be glued to the ground.

“Draco look at this.” Pansy all but snorted waving the paper around making your stomach twist in knots. “Draco, ever since first year I haven’t been able to forget about your blue eyes. Over the years I’ve been able to see you grow and I can’t help but smile when they twinkle when you’re happy or get lost in them whenever you look at me. I know you don’t like me, but I couldn’t stand keeping it to myself anymore. Sincerely Y/N.” Pansy mocked your voice making you cringe at the words you once thought were sweet but now thought sounded a bit weird. Pansy’s laugh pulled you back in and you wished the ground would open up and swallow you whole when the next words came from her mouth. “You can even see where she scribbled out love.” She wheezed, pointing at the spot and showing Draco making your eyes squeeze shut.

“Let me see.” Draco explained, almost not believing her while he reached out, taking the note from her hands. There was no denying it was your handwriting, you both were partners in many of your classes over the years and he could pick your writing out of a line of them all.

“And here she is!” Pansy exclaimed walking over to you. “The pathetic lovestruck Y/N.” Pansy teased, walking closer by the second. “You really think Draco would like someone like you?” Pansy laughed in your face, making you stumble back when she took a step closer. You opened your mouth to say something but she continued. “Just because you’re a pureblood doesn’t mean he’ll like you. No one here even knows how you got sorted into Slytherin. You’re a pathetic excuse for one.” Pansy spat in your face making you flinch.

The tears welled in your eyes blurring your vision, and you couldn’t stop yourself from looking over at Draco. He looked just as shocked as you, and he looked at you with sympathy. You wanted to laugh at yourself. You knew he wouldn’t feel the same way, and now he was going to give you pity.

“The only reason you’re a Slytherin is because of your family. They must be embarrassed by you.” Pansy pulled your gaze back to her and away from Draco. You were pushed back against the table, Pansy only a step away while she sneered. “Too coward to tell him to his face? Or did you not want to be rejected to your ugly rotten-” Pansy continued, leaning closer with each word making you lean back away from her before she was cut off.

“Leave her alone Parkinson. You’ve done enough.” Draco explained pulling her away from you. You tried to let out the breath you were holding, but a sob took its place making you cover your mouth. “Y/N…” Draco trailed turning back to you, but all you could do was run out the door.

You managed to avoid him the entire day, switching seats with people so you wouldn’t get stuck sitting next to him. You even begged Hermione to let you hide out in the Gryffindor common room, although you know you could’ve asked someone from the other houses and they would’ve helped. You managed this until the winter holiday, somehow keeping it a secret from Snape that you hadn’t been sleeping in the Slytherin dorms, but the truth came out when he came to get everyone the morning they were leaving and realized you weren’t in your dorm. You didn’t care, knowing you’d have the common room to yourself the entire holiday anyway.

You spent the morning taking your things from the Gryffindor common room back into the Slytherin one with Hermione’s help and you thanked her for letting you stay with her. You wished you could’ve hung out with her during the break, but since she was going home you were going to be stuck with your thoughts instead. You threw yourself onto your bed before everyone left, staring up at the ceiling in thought. There was no denying that you were still thinking about what happened with Draco. You felt stupid now that you thought about the letter that was probably somewhere in the garbage. With a groan you shoved your face into your pillows, letting everyone’s footsteps be the only thing you heard and thought about, drifting off to the white noise it created.

When you woke up it was because of the sun shining directly into your face from the window. With half the day gone you knew everyone was long gone by now, and you finally found the courage to leave your room. Grabbing your toothbrush you spread toothpaste on it before shoving it in your mouth, brushing silently while you walked into the common room. Humming to yourself you walked over to the fireplace and grabbed your wand, turning it on while you continued brushing. You left out a sigh when you realized you’d have to go back to the restroom sooner than you thought to finish brushing your teeth. You let your hips sway slightly as you continued to hum, and the sound of a stifled laugh caused you to spin around.

“Draco!” You breathed out, seeing the boy sitting at the table with a smirk on his face. You couldn’t help but blush while he looked you up and down, toothpaste dribbling out the corner of your mouth from when you spoke.

You were walking into the Slytherin common room and sat yourself down next to window that gives views of underwater of the Black lake. Thinking about events happening around you. Muggle-borns keep dying around you at Hogwarts. You never see it because you’re usually in the library or in a class. You only get to hear from other people. Tom never mentions it either.

He requested that you shouldn’t interact with fellow witches and wizards unless absolutely necessary. He never told tell you why, now you only really talked to people in your common house. Distancing yourself from other friends who aren’t. It felt off, something isn’t right. You couldn’t put your finger on it.

One of reasons of you guys meet was by reaching for the same restricted section book. You and Him have the same thirst for the Dark Arts. Yours is more of a casual thing but his was something else. His consumed his life but he acts like it doesn’t.

Before knowing him, you knew some of the horrible spells that you felt guilty for knowing from reading constantly in your spare time.

He would say “Knowing them won’t make a difference unless you use them.” And that made you feel better about it.

It made sense so you didn’t say anything and now you don’t. Plus, He was always one step of ahead of you in everything so who are you to question him.

Back to now, Your eyes followed reflections of light until your body was forced to spin around and your face landing into someone’s chest. Recognizing the smell of musk and vanilla belonging to Tom. His hand wrapped around your head, Kissing your forehead softly and smiled at you. You always found it odd that his smiles never reached his eyes. His eyes were deadpanned and just dead. Emotions were never present in them but you didn’t really mind.

“Tom?” Looking up at him, he slide his hand to your throat and caressed it in thought. He grabbed your hand and dragged you out of the common room. His robe bellowed as did yours, his footsteps echoing throughout the barely lit castle hallways.

“I need you to be a good girl and listen to me. Tonight, you’re gonna do some great for me.” He slowed down a bit as he spotted Abraxas Malfoy with a group of slytherins. He then stopped in-front of him.

He was startled at first and Tom gave him a nod. “You know what to do Malfoy.” Malfoy just nodded. “I want it done before I get there.” Malfoy went off as the group followed him.

“Tom?! What are we doing?” Trying to gain his attention as you stopped walking, tripping over self. He gripped your wrist tightly and it was going to bruise not that he cared. He hoisted you back up into his arms.

“You love me don’t you?” He stroked the side of your face. Putting a strand of hair back behind your ear. “If you love me, you’re gonna do this for me without fail. Every word I say, you’ll follow through with it.”

What’s wrong with him, never seeing him desperate. There’s a first for everything. “Of course I love you but what’s happening? What is abraxas going to do?”

“It’s not about what he’s going to do, it’s about a what you’re going to do on the first try.” As he started to pat your head like a pet. His eyes gleamed and he held your hand. “Let’s go.”

Deciding not responding was the best option at moment. All of this wasn’t making sense but you loved him nonetheless and followed him. It was close to lights out but him being head boy so who was gonna question him being out of bed. What seemed like a life time, you stopped in-front of a bathroom. Why here? You tried to find any reasons of stopping here and there were none that came to mind. Tom whispered alohomora with his wand and the door creaked open. Locked? But why. He brought you in and letting out a small gasp. On the floor laid a half beaten muggle born Myrtle. You stood still trying to piece together what’s happening. You look at Tom but he was fixed on her.

“Tom, When you mentioned how you disliked mudbloods is this what you meant because isn’t this a little extreme?” Grabbing onto his robes pulling yourself to him.

He glanced down toward you and smirked. A smirk that finally met his eyes. “This is your chance to impress me even further, my dear. Now, you only have one chance and it’s a spell that both you and I know. It’s a spell called Avada Kedavra. You may not know the wand movement so if you mess up the first time but I see you actually mean it, I’ll possibly grant you a second try. Second tries are hard to come by from you as you know it. You’ll do this is you love and want to the rest of your life with me.” He walked you over to her and helped you get your wand out. He held hand with your wand to practice said wand movement.

After a few times, he seemed satisfied and sat on the sink countertop with his arms crossed.

“I simply can’t, she’s my and your age. She’s just a little a girl.” Tears escaped your eyes while looking at him.

Clicking his tongue, “I thought you were better then this. I always granted your wish, whatever it was. Have you thought about my wishes? What I wanted? You haven’t, haven’t you? You’re a taker but what I need is a giver. Can’t you give me this one simple sign of loyalty? Please, I love you. I don’t want to lose you” Hugging you from behind and putting his face into your neck. You felt him shake a little and feeling his lips move.

You tried to reason in your mind that you didnt need him and you’ll walk away. Forget this ever happened. Forget him.

You couldn’t…. Already so attached to him. Thinking all those times you snuck into the library at midnight, the Yule ball, hogsmeade dates, and lastly was because you given him all of your firsts. First date, first kiss, first boyfriend, first time having sex, and first love. Could you truly forgot all of that? Could you lose it? You couldn’t start over. Your school life was coming to a close and you thought you spend the rest of your days with Tom. Get a flat together, get married, and possibly having his children. He had you wrapped around him. He was in every corner of your mind and him knowing it.

You steadied yourself and casted it. After the deed was done, you collapsed and tried to hold yourself together. You were a criminal. A victim too in a way. Love makes you do crazy things. This is one of those times.

He turned your face towards his to kissed you. He picked you up and started walking out with you in his arms. His lips whispering sweet words into your ears. You ate it up, lapped up every word like a starved puppy. Turning your head to glance into the bathroom, her glossed over eyes met yours as the door slammed shut and locked. It was a sight that you would never forget. A feeling you would never forget. You would probably do it again for him if those lips kept on moving.
