LIVE

Sorry, Mr Potter, but I just have to watch this musical as soon as possible, because I was suffering so much to watch it. I’ve finally watched “Death Note: The Musical”. Well, I’m not sure if it was worth watching thirty-seven episodes of “Death Note”, but since I did watch them it was easier for me to watch the musical because there’s an album in English but all productions are either Korean, or Japanese, so I had to watch it with subs and understanding what’s happening (thanks to anime) helped me a lot. Of course, I enjoyed it much more than the original. I did hear some familiar Wildhorn’s tune motives even through a very foreign language. I also enjoyed Ryuk – there was more of him than in the original and he was a little cooler (and more humorous) here. L is the best part of this show – his songs are great (probably only “Only Human” is better than “The Way It Ends” and “Stalemate”) and he looks pretty (sorry). He also tells the truth: Kira is a crazy psychopathic murderer – thank you L. The plot is differentiated from the anime (of course, you just can’t fit all that trash happening in those series for thirty-seven episodes with so many characters in two and a half-hour musical). Though, it’s pretty close to the first half of the original – the beginning, the start of the investigation, Misa’s story. The ending, on the other hand, is much shorter and happens much faster than it used to. (Spoilers!) The only person who dies is L, also because of Rem, but then he meets with Light in a warehouse (as with Near at the end) and L follows everything written in the Notebook – shoots Light in the leg and then shoots himself, saying that he predicted it. Then, Ryuk says that Light is no fun anymore and kills him. What, on the one hand, feels a little rushed, on the other hand, is anyway better than what happened in the original. And now a cherry on the cake – there’s a half-legal (I don’t know, maybe just illegal, there’s nothing about it on the “Death Note: The Musical” Wikipedia page) Russian production of that musical and do you know who’s Ryuk? Drumroll… Kirill Gordeev. You can find a bootleg of a concert performance on YouTube (here’s the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQZgMMOINy4 ) and some stuff with the costumes too (here’s “Kira” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQdkiCGCmB4 and “Only Human” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2pJhrDQBF0 ). Well, enough “Death Note” in my life, it’s time to get back to some anime I can enjoy.

I love how in Matsuda’s perspective everyone is serious but then there is L who looks like an evil sibling who took the last cookie:

Soichiro: Why did you put a normal sized carrot in the bag of baby carrots?

Matsuda: They needed adult supervision.

The Lovers

One of the two cards I’ve made for @deathnotetarot

  • A little description:

The Lovers’ card is the card of the choices. It warns you that you have to make a choice that will condition your future, in a negative or positive way.
For sure this card is also - but not only - related with romantic relashionships, because being with a person, loving that person means that you have choose them, and this is what Soichiro and Sachiko have done.

Day 29: Execution

A eulogy for the living and the dead; the living dead.

-

The wheels on the car spin at a tantalizingly eerie pace, they scape over the pavement and propel them towards their final destination.

He’s terrified. He’s so very, very terrified.

He can feel his soul scrambling around this cursed physical form as if it is a prison. It’s crying and screaming, pounding its fists against the metal bars of the cage to be let out towards freedom.

But that’s not going to happen. Oh no, that was never destined to happen.

He’s going to kill him, and the reason is unknown. How could a father murder his own flesh and blood? It’s like a Greek tragedy for shit’s sake, overdrawn and overblown, overdramatic for the sake of selling seats in a theater. It’s a tale of biblical proportions.

The only question is, where is the ram?

The skies are grey and dreary, bleak and weary, and soon his tired soul will be climbing up those looming clouds.

He thinks he sees a flash of darkness and he forcibly wipes the image from his mind. It’s his vertigo.

He’s innocent, he knows this. How could he murder in secret, even from himself? It’s not possible, not feasible, not tangible nor believable. How could anyone buy into a plot filled with holes?

Holes burnt into his own mind…. normally, he’d believe they mean something. Deep in the recesses of his mind, he uncomfortably faces the realization that there are some things he can’t quite remember. Some things that he suspects he purposefully forgot and could not retrieve even if his life depended on it.

Which, it does.

And he’s going to die now, the steady dread is filling him to the brim and paralyzing each of his nerves, which are so tightly bound together he couldn’t escape even if he was free from these chains.

What will death feel like? What will it taste like? Will it be soft and bitter, painful and abrasive, will he go tenderly into the quiet night or feel his chest be ripped apart fiber by fiber? He can’t fathom death, but he can scarcely breathe, and his vision is become quite hazy with images he knows aren’t really there, so he knows he’s holding death’s hand tentatively.

Light feels so young. He’s not supposed to die this way.

But, in what way is appropriate to die? Isn’t death a bit unfair to everyone, really? Perhaps it’s fair in that it doesn’t discriminate. But this all does feel like a very cruel joke with no punchline, only literal fists in his gut and laughs from sadists are what he can fathom.

His breath catches in his throat, his heart plummets to his feet. He can’t breathe, for a moment, and that’s when he sees the image of God reflected in the rearview mirror.

Or is that just a raven, flying alongside his window, waiting for its allotted time to caw his death sentence?

Light sweats, pants, groans.

Everything’s moving faster.

He’s too smart not to realize that this is a trap.

But, trap or not, cleverly placed and thought out, drawn up in pretty lines or flashy pictures, it matters not. He will die, he knows this as certainly as he knows of his innocence. This thing, shadow, vision, secret, whatever’s lurking behind his soul, it will finish him off for good.

But why does he feel like he might let it, if it offered up a good enough deal?

Is this what it feels like to sell your soul, only to writhe about in the ruins beneath? He’s always been so smart, so very wise beyond his slender years, but now he feels like nothing more than a desperate fool.

What has he done wrong?

What has he done right?

Light hasn’t been a good man, one who was completely righteous and virtuous, and he regrets that now. He wishes he had more time to be good, and he also knows that if he was given such time, he’d probably still waste it on his own fancies. It’s a funny thing, the human mind and morality. So scared of death and so willing to bargain with anything and everything, but so stubborn in actually saving anything worthwhile.

And though his father holds the gun, Light pities the horror in his eyes. That horror must be real, his father isn’t that good of an actor-or is he?

Does his father see death in his own eyes? Or is that something he’s created, projecting onto Light the image he’s always wanted to see, even now?

He can’t believe he’ll die without his father ever really, truly seeing him.

He swallows, loudly, he struggles not to scream as the cold barrel of the gun is imprinted onto his sweaty skin. It chills him right down to his bone marrow. It’s real. This is happened. The panic is tangible and thick and wraps around his neck, wringing his vocal cords and silencing screams of horror. Words and images, the likes he has never seen, run rampant through his quickly crumbling mind. He wants to do something, anything, but-

Bang!

He’s too afraid to open his eyes. Is life really worth living after death?
