miles “who’s morales” morales’s biggest weakness is the cover story

peter, lying out of his ass: i was, uh, married to his uncle aaron. he just never let you know

Jefferson, later: Do you think Aaron never told us because Peter’s…

Rio: …Tall

Jefferson: I didn’t think Aaron liked … Tall people.

Jefferson: “But listen: Aaron might have married a white boy just to annoy me, specifically. It’s a thing he would do!”

Rio: “I can’t hear you. I’m asleep.  I have a shift in four hours.”

I really wish there was a way Uncle Aaron lived and came back to meet his “husband” at some point now.

Aaron: …Miles…I love you, and I am proud of you…but you are somehow the smartest and dumbest boy I have ever known.

Miles: Says the man who used his big brain to become a criminal when he could’ve been a black Tony Stark with that gear he made. And thought working for the Kingpin, who everyone knows will throw his minions away like tissues, was a good idea!

Peter: He makes a good point, babe, you did kind of mess up first–

Aaron: Call me babe again and see what happens. I’ll whoop you with a collapsed lung.

All I see is “fake marriage au, but it’s also enemies to lovers”

If I ever stop reblogging this post, assume that I have yeeted myself off this mortal coil

Miles: Peter I think we can stop pretending you’re gay, my parents already know I’m Spider-Man.

Peter: Who said anything about pretending?

Miles: What! You can’t do that! You’re supposed to be Spider-Man, not my gay uncle.

Peter: Well congrats kid! Now I’m Spider-Man AND your gay uncle

Here are my designs for Aunt May’s House interiors. This set was extremely near and dear to my heart. My goal was to create something familiar yet specific. I wanted everyone who sees this set to feel like it was their grandma’s (or elderly aunt’s) home. Complete with doilies, potpourri, fine china, crystal, tolle paintings, endless amounts of photos, knick knacks, corded telephones, carthode-ray tube televisions with the vhs built in, and the ever important vinyl couch covers, this set was my tribute to all grandmothers(and elderly aunts). On deeper levels it was my tribute to the established women in my life, with specific eclectic tastes, and that one living room we couldn’t go in. Thanks to my Grammy, Grandma Marie, and my mother-in-law for letting me photograph your homes and draw inspiration for this set. Also thank you to Ernie Rinard and John Butiu for initial designs of the house.

Uncle Aaron’s apartment was a real treat to design. As with all sets this was an extension of the character who inhabits it and had to establish quickly that Aaron is everything Mile’s wants to be. I mean video games, turn tables, giant speakers, swords, junk food, what teenager wouldn’t absolutely love hanging out here? Ultimately, it’s where Miles goes to escape responsibility, and in the end, the only place he can learn it. There was a lot of wonderful concept art when I started this by Neil Ross and Vaughan Ling that helped set the tone and established that wonderful red chesterfield sofa.

The first set I designed for the film, and one of the first sets we turned over. This set was based on some initial designs from @albertomielgo who’s gorgeous brilliant artwork set the tone for the entire film and gave us permission to do things radically different . This one was tough because along with being one of the first things I did on the film it also served to set the tone of the final look. Along with @zacretz classroom designs these sets had to really cement the style of the film as much as possible. Working these sets in tandem, zac and I would bounce ideas on how to do things off each other. I’d see something really cool that he was doing and added it to my design and he’d like something I was doing and put it in his. It was a crazy fast process, but I think the energy and freshness helped us more than we knew at the time. All of this under the guidance of our masterful leader @shinypinkbottle really made this something special and amazing to work on. Also @chancetherapper graciously let us use his likeness in this film so I was so glad we got to keep that up.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse comes out tonight. I hope you all see it and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed working on it. I am so proud of what we did on this film, and so proud to have been a part of it. I’ve been drawing Spider-Man for as long as I can remember and to say working on this was a dream come true would be a spectacular understatement.

Spider-Man represents the best in all of us. He’d give up everything for something he believes in, and that’s exactly what this film represents and what it took to make it. So please go see this movie and enjoy something special, that we all believed in.

Spider-Verse things

I keep hearing this stuff about the characters n such in Spider-Verse, so I wanna vent about it a bit.

I once heard a reviewer claim that Spider-Noir, Ham, and Peni didn’t need to be in the movie and that the movie “would’ve been perfectly fine without them.” Que to when Miles literally states that they’ll be outnumbered with just him, Gwen, and Peter. They’re introduced RIGHT after that. Plus thanks to them, Miles, Gwen, and Peter only had to deal with Doc Oct. (Miles fights Kingpin alone so eh.)

I also see very often of people disliking most of the Spider-People due to them “forcing their expectations on Miles.” If Miles went to fight Kingpin as inexperienced as he was, he would’ve been killed. He barely won when he gained control of his powers so them making sure Miles was ready is fair enough. In fact, Peter was the only one who decided on Miles to stay behind and not get them home, not the others. That was obvious from how they stayed out Miles’ window when he was being told to stay behind. The others WANTED Miles to be the saviour and hero, but I’m 100% positive they ALSO did not want him to die.

Peni Parker from the comic and from the movie have different personalities. Please stop comparing them as if they’re the same. Miles has a totally different personality as well. Can’t say for certain about the others however.

Oh! I almost forgot, happy Spider-Man day to my favorite incarnation, Peter B. Parker! I have nothing against any other version, but I feel like Peter gets perpetually trapped or reset to a high school kid over and over again in most media. It’s like Ash in Pokemon or something. Dude’s been an awkward teen going on decades.

Letting him finally grow up, have adult problems, but still be the awesome Spider-Man and witty hero we know and love just hits different for me. I love him, his mentoring and relationship with Miles and the rest of the spider gang, his insecurities, and his whole arc. He’s the real deal. ❤️
