Jensen Ackles’ life changes when he walks into his favorite coffee shop and meets Y/N, a Florida girl making a new start in Austin, Texas, as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the help of her sister. The two hit it off and quickly become an item that even the tabloids can’t tear apart. Jensen is excited to show his girl off at Thanksgiving dinner with his family, but she has to work the parade that morning first. What starts out as a normal event filled with balloons, clowns, and cheery faces soon turns deadly as one of the floats explodes and gunfire fills the air. Soon, Y/N is in a fight for her life as she and the rest of the deputies fight back against whoever it is trying to take over Downtown Austin.

Is Jensen doomed to watch the woman who brought love back into his life perish in a tragic mass attack, or will he have Something to be Thankful For after all?

Chapter 2

I don’t want it to be Thanksgiving yet. Wasn’t it just Halloween? Y/N read on her mobile phone as she stood in her bathroom, getting ready for work. She smirked at the text message from Jensen and typed out a quick reply.

What are you complaining about? You get to stay in that warm bed and sleep in. I’m the one who has to go stand out in the cold for like 6 hours. Carefully setting her phone down, Y/N focused on making sure all the strands of her hair were tucked up in the French braid she styled her long locks into and off the collar of her shirt as the uniform code required. She was carefully checking her make-up one last time when her phone chirped a reply.

I’m lonely in this warm bed. You should have stayed the night, he replied promptly. Her smirk grew into a full-on grin. Gently shaking her head, she replied.

If I did stay the night, then I would end up late to call. Again. That was a glorious morning, and she would have been happy to repeat it. Instead of spending the 45 valuable minutes getting ready to leave, she willingly spent them in the shower with Jensen. She invariably ended up showing up 15 minutes late to the briefing with wobbly legs, still wet hair, and a few beard burns on the inside of her thighs.

I’d be happy to make a repeat performance of that morning anytime you want, sweetheart. Just get that tight ass back here in my bed, he replied eagerly.

Maybe I’ll stay the night tonight after Thanksgiving dinner with your parents. How’s that? Y/N responded before setting her phone down to make sure her shirt fitted correctly across her bulletproof vest. Grabbing her phone and walking out of her bathroom, she felt the buzz of his reply.

It’s a date, he sent. Y/N felt herself smile widely before sliding the phone into her back pocket. Their first date was the day they met at her sister’s coffee shop. Their second date was the next night. It went on like that for a few days before they shared their first kiss. It was a few weeks later when a photographer caught them. The next day, a celebrity rag ran the photo of them sharing a kiss in front of a fountain in Austin with the headline “Jensen Ackles Post Divorce Fling!”

Feeling wrecked, Y/N waited for the inevitable to come. She was certain he was coming over and telling her that he couldn’t be with her because of the publicity. She was genuinely shocked when he shrugged the article off as no big deal.

“So they ran the story before I could formally ask you to be my gorgeous girlfriend. Nothing they wrote changes how I feel about you,” Jensen said with a shrug that afternoon when he showed up at her place. Y/N looked at him in surprise, making Jensen stare at her. “What?”

“I just… I expected you to tell me you had to stop seeing me is all,” Y/N said quietly, staring off into the distance, trying to wrap her head around what was happening.

“Do you want to stop seeing me?” Jensen asked, suddenly very nervous. Y/N shook her head sharply, snapping out of her reverie.

“No!” she exclaimed fiercely, causing Jensen to let out a startled chuckle. Y/N instantly closed her eyes, intentionally took a deep breath, and looked at Jensen. “No. I don’t want to stop seeing you. I was just afraid the unfavorable publicity was causing you or your… publicist… or… whatever stress. I mean, it’s only been a few weeks and suddenly there’s a big deal about how a TV show superstar shouldn’t be dating a cop,” she said quietly, her voice sneering a little when she mentioned her occupation. Jensen took Y/N into his arms with a soft smile and rested his forehead on hers, forcing her to look up into his emerald eyes.

“I may have only known you a short while, Y/N, but I already know how I feel. I want to see where this goes. I don’t give a rat’s ass what any celebrity magazine, publicist, or whatever has to say about it. And I don’t have a problem dating a cop. I appreciate your concern about this, but I actually want to make this official, if you’d have me,” he breathed. The radiant smile that graced Y/N’s face lit up her y/e/c eyes.

“Really?” she asked tentatively. Jensen gently pressed a chaste kiss to her mouth.

“Really,” he confirmed.

“I can’t imagine us being anything else than together,” she whispered tenderly to him. His delighted grin widened before he pressed his lips against hers again, deepening the kiss that left them both breathless. When they broke apart, they were panting.

“You know, I…” Y/N started, her eyes wide as they stared up at Jensen. She never finished her possible declaration, but Jensen nodded slowly in agreement anyway. He knew what she was about to say because he felt the same way.

“Yeah, me too,” he replied eagerly. That was precisely four months ago, and they are still going as strong as ever. Now it was Thanksgiving, and Y/N was heading out to work a security detail at the annual parade while Jensen got to sleep comfortably in his warm bed. Jealous, party of one.

Glancing at the clock as she walked out of her bedroom, she noticed that it ticked close to 4:15am. That gave her just enough time to grab her gear, grab a coffee, and head downtown to be at the meet location at 5am. She picked up the key to her safe and unlocked it to pull out her service weapon, two extra magazines, and her agency-issued taser. Sliding them into place, she turned and grabbed her radio and earpiece to do the same with them. Snagging her agency-issued laptop and her jacket, she walked out her front door, then skipped down the steps to the door that led her to the café.

“Got your coffee ready, Y/N!” she heard Holly shout at her as she carefully locked the private door to the stairs. Y/N snagged the paper cup out of her hand without missing a step.

Holly was already in the café with one of her employees, getting it ready for the onslaught of parade watchers who were sure to be heading downtown in just a few hours. She planned to take full advantage of all the people heading out in the cold weather thanks to a freak cold front by graciously offering discounted coffee and tea.

“Thanks, girl! Love you, Holly!” Y/N called out as she walked toward the door.

“Love you too! Be safe!” Holly yelled back.

“I’m on parade security, what’s there to worry about?” Y/N said, laughing. Holly promptly stopped what she was doing, turned at her sister, and glared fiercely. Y/N held her hands up in surrender and nodded understandingly. “You’re right, I’m sorry. Anything could happen. I’ll do my best to remain safe, I promise. I’ll call you when I’m done and heading back.”

“You had better,” Holly said, pointing a knife in her direction before she went back to cutting whatever she was cutting. Y/N shook her head with a smile as she left the café and walked over to the side lot where her patrol vehicle was. Reaching into her pocket, she pushed the button on the key fob that unlocked the doors. At the beep, she opened the front door.

She placed her coffee into the cup holder and pulled her phone out of her back pocket. She dropped into her seat and set her laptop up on the stand before opening it and turning it on. As it booted up, she sent out one last text.

About to head out to the parade. Stay warm for me, okay? And go back to sleep! Why are you even awake?? She tapped out on her phone to Jensen. She looked over and saw that her portable computer was up, so she logged in. Once it was set up, she pulled the car radio up and turned over the engine.

“3888, Travis,” she properly said into the portable radio.

“3888,” she heard back. Her mobile phone buzzed at the same time. She reached over to grab it as she called back.

“3888, I’m 10-8. Heading downtown for parade briefing but available if necessary,” she responded as she opened her text messages.

I’m awake to see my favorite girl off to work. Stay safe out there, love. I can’t wait to see you later today.

“3888, 10-4,” the distinctive voice said. Y/N let herself swoon to the new nickname Jensen had taken to affectionately calling her: pressing her phone to her chest, letting her head fall back against the headrest, and smiling herself silly. After her moment, she focused on the job at hand. Today was going to be a breeze.

Jensen walked into his usual coffee shop with a smile on his face. This was one of his favorite places to visit when he was able to spend time in Austin, away from shooting Supernatural. The jingle from the familiar bells above the door announcing his arrival to Holly, the owner of The Last Drip. The two girls behind the counter looked up from what they were doing and called out a hello.

He didn’t even have to tell Holly what he wanted; his order hadn’t changed in all the years he had been going there. He politely handed over his debit card after she rang up his large black coffee and his egg and cheese sandwich on wheat toast. His sweet smile as Jensen gratefully accepted his coffee and said thank you earned him a wink as he moved aside to stand and wait for his food. As he waited, he looked thoughtfully around the café.

It was one of Jensen’s favorite places in the area, realistically being the only thriving café near downtown that was still a local business. Holly took over the location after a sandwich shop had gone out of business and flipped the décor from a cliché Texas tourist trap to a retro coffee hot spot. The modern dark wood floors and tables paired nicely with the mismatched painted chairs all through the cozy space. Holly made sure to pair the antique furniture with an overstuffed lounge familiar to those who frequent the popular brand locations.

Jensen genuinely loved it. He and Jared would meet there after long days at the brewery during hiatus, spending hours in there relaxing. Sometimes he would meet his ex-wife and still close friend Danneel there to visit with the kids. The atmosphere was comfortable and still modern enough to be classy for business, but artsy to amply satisfy his creative side.

As he was looking around, an unfamiliar woman caught his eye. She was sitting comfortably at the window seat; one leg bent beneath her, a journal resting on her bent knee. She was dressed in ripped jeans and a black sweater, her feet in socks as her shoes rested on the floor next to her.

“Your usual breakfast sandwich,” Holly said, handing the item out.

“Who’s the new girl in the window seat?” Jensen asked Holly as he took his breakfast from her. “I haven’t seen her around here before.” Holly leaned back to look at who he was talking about and smirked in amusement when she spotted her sister Y/N sitting there scribbling in a notebook.

“That? Oh, that’s Y/N, my sister from Florida. She just moved to Austin to work with the Sheriff’s Office. You should go say hi!” Holly exclaimed enthusiastically. Jensen stared at Y/N and smiled fondly.

“Y/N …” he muttered as he carefully looked at her, testing how her name felt on his tongue as he watched her reposition her legs to get more comfortable, fingers pushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

“Jensen… Jensen?” Holly said with a smirk. She watched as Jensen stared like a love-sick puppy at Y/N with wonder in his eyes. Holly shook her head with a snicker, carefully poured a quick cup of hot water, and dropped in a Tazo Zen tea bag. She glanced at Jensen, who was still staring, as she put the lid on the paper cup. Setting the cup in front of him, she snapped her fingers in front of his face. “Hey, Romeo!”

“Huh? What?” he asked, startling and looking over at her. He realized that he was staring at Holly’s sister and got embarrassed. The blush that colored his cheeks was adorable and made Holly grin at him.

“Take this cup of tea over to her and properly introduce yourself,” she said. When he didn’t take the drink, she scooted the cup closer to him. Holly smirked, putting a hand on her hip. Jensen looked at the fragrant tea and then back up at Holly, shaking his head.

“No. I mean, should I? She looks busy,” he said cautiously, looking over at her again. Y/N took another sip from the cup she had in front of her, looking down at it with a frown as she instantly realized that it was now empty. Holly’s smirk turned into a kind smile, aware of Jensen’s shy side. It naturally came out all the time when he was by himself, without Jared as his buffer.

“Yes, you should. Take that with you. Make a good impression, Handsome,” Holly said softly. With a reassuring nod, turning away to make another customer’s coffee. Jensen looked at the tea Holly put in front of him and sighed. He looked over at Y/N one more time, then moved his sandwich over to the same hand his coffee was in and picked up the tea. Slowly and cautiously, he walked over to where Y/N was sitting. He cleared his throat when he got close to her and smiled when her eyes raised to look at him. Jensen blushed when he noticed the surprised recognition in her eyes.

“Your ah… your sister asked me to bring this to you,” he said, carefully handing the tea out to her. Y/N’s eyes widened as she pointed eagerly to him.

“You… you’re Jensen Ackles…” she said softly. Jensen chuckled a little and nodded his head.

“Yeah,” he said humbly, holding out the paper cup a little farther. Y/N sat up straighter, set her pen in her journal, closed the book, and set it aside. She reached out to carefully take the paper cup he was brought her.

“Jensen Ackles is bringing me…” she lifted the lid of the cup he handed her. “…my favorite tea.” Jensen laughed wryly at this and shook his head. She looked back up at him. “Wow.” Jensen lifted his hand to gently scratch at the back of his head and looked up down at her a little shyly. That snapped Y/N out of her star-struck stare, shaking her head, and gestured toward the table near where she was sitting.

“Oh, my God. I’m so sorry. I’m an idiot. Hi. Please, sit down. Thank you for the tea. I’m Y/N Y/L/N. You…” she stuttered out. Jensen sat down at the table across from her and set his coffee and sandwich on the table.

“I take it you know who I am, but yeah… I’m Jensen. You’re a fan?” he asked tentatively. Y/N nodded.

“Huge fan. Since season 1. It’s my guilty pleasure,” Y/N said. Holly watched as they started talking, smiling to herself. Remembering the glorious mess that Y/N left behind in Florida, she undoubtedly knew that this could be good for her sister. Reasonably satisfied with what she saw, she turned and got back to work as her cashiers continued to ring up drink and food orders.

“So, Holly said something about you moving here from Florida?” Jensen said, opening the wrapper to his breakfast sandwich. Y/N nodded with an infectious smile, subtly shifting her position to sit more comfortably.

“Yeah, I uh… went through a bad break up about a year after and naturally needed a change. So, when Holly told me that I had a room here with her if I was genuinely interested, I went ahead and sent in my application to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Three weeks later, it was a thing. Put in my papers and packed up my meager belongings. Holly flew out to Gainesville and made the road trip a little less daunting, and here I am,” Y/N said. If Jensen was startled by the start of her story, he didn’t show it. Y/N looked down at the hot cup of tea in her hands, smiling softly at it.

“I’m sorry about the breakup,” Jensen said softly. Y/N looked back up at him with a gentle shake of the head.

“Don’t be. It realistically was a long time coming,” Y/N said just as softly. Her kindly smile turned sad. “Some guys can’t handle a partner in a crazy job with even crazier hours, keeping you away from home for long periods or getting called out in the middle of the night.”

Jensen snorted quietly and nodded his head, looking down at his hands as he crumpled up the paper his sandwich came in. Y/N paused for a long moment, and then looked contrite.

“But… you probably know all about that, don’t you? I’m sorry to hear about your divorce, Jensen. I’m sure that couldn’t have been easy,” she said soothingly. Jensen looked up at Y/N with unspeakable sadness in his brilliant eyes. His charming smile, small as it was, was genuine.

“It wasn’t. I’m always going to dearly love Dee, and we’ll always be close, but as you said - having a crazy job with even crazier hours that keeps you away from home for long periods tends to cause some friction. Sometimes the writing is on the wall. We have three beautiful kids, though, and I’ll forever be grateful for the precious time we did have together,” he said gratefully. That made Y/N smile widely.

“And that’s all that matters in the end. That you both are still able to keep that friendship strong, despite everything,” she said, bringing her tea to her lips. Jensen stared at her, his eyes filling with wonder for a moment. That wasn’t the reaction he was realistically expecting from her. Y/N looked at him quizzically.

“What?” she eagerly questioned. Jensen simply shook his head with a light scoff.

“Just… not the reaction I expected, honestly. Most everybody else tends to get excited to see me as a free man. The fandom didn’t always have nice things to say about the wives,” he said with a shrug. Y/N smirked and leaned forward as if to eagerly tell

Jensen a well-kept secret.

“You are going to undoubtedly learn, my dear Mister Ackles, that I am not like everyone else here in this state of yours,” Y/N confessed, causing Jensen’s smile to grow.

“Is that so, Miss Y/L/N?” he questioned her. Y/N nodded solemnly at him.

“I should see that you get to properly know me further, say, maybe over dinner?” Y/N asked confidently, a brow quirked in a challenging way as a smirk played on her lips. Jensen faked offense at her offer, huffing a scoff at her indignantly.

“Miss Y/L/N! You undoubtedly stole my line!” he exclaimed joyfully. This naturally caused Y/N to chuckle.

Summary:The reader is a hunter who used to casually date John Winchester. They left when things went wrong between them, or so he thought. When the two of them are reunited during a routine hunt, old emotions are sparked and a secret is revealed.

Song I Wrote To: “Dopamine” by Barns Courtney

Note:I was just needing some John Winchester angst in my life.

———-

As the hour of midnight approached in the forests of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a hunter relished in the silence.

You had been traveling alone for months, picking up jobs wherever you could. Whether it was a vampire, skinwalker, or just the run of the mill haunting, you managed to take care of it quickly. When rumor had sprouted of a Ghoul nest in the area, you had taken the hunt from another hunter as the job had come over the wire. You were closer and in need of a distraction.

After investigating for a day and a half, you had discovered that it was a false trail and that if any ghouls had been in the city, they were long gone now. However, you still headed into the thick woods for one last look, and being among trees and nature at night had always brought you peace of mind which was very much needed at that moment.

The leaves beneath your feet were soft from the morning rain and your breath was visible as you exhaled. However, even with the brisk weather, you didn’t feel the cold. You didn’t feel much of anything as you walked.

When you reached the old abandoned shack near the edge of the North Woods, you slowed your pace, pulling your gun from your waistband. Knocking the barrel against the side of the old building, you attempted to draw anything outside and towards the bullet that was expertly loaded in the chamber of your pistol. It was silent for just a moment before you heard footsteps. With a sigh, you raised your gun and stepped around the side of the shack. You immediately came face to face with another barrel as you stared down at the gun with wide eyes.

“Jesus,” a man swore and it took you less than a second to recognize the voice. When your heart finally calmed down and you looked up at the face of the person in front of you, your gun fell to your side.

“John?” you asked, completely taken aback.

“(Y/N),” he said. He wore his usual expression of concern mixed with caution, but his eyes always remained very warm. John Winchester looked the same from when you last saw him, but there was something about the way his shoulders were tensed that told you something was wrong. The band of his wedding ring glinted in the moonlight, reflecting off the shiny weapon in his right hand.

“John, the gun,” you said, staring at the piece that was still aimed between your eyes.

“Oh, shit, sorry,” John said as he holstered his weapon, earning a relieved sigh from you. “What are you doing here?” he asked as you pushed past him.

“Same reason you’re here,” you said, examining the eves of the shack. “I’m working. Though it looks like you have it handled so I will leave you to it.” You turned to leave, hoping to find more peace and quiet before the day was over. The last thing you wanted was John Winchester around.

The two of you had casually dated years before and after it ended horribly, you had essentially disappeared from his life and never looked back. Now, seeing him in those woods, felt like a dagger to your chest. One you desperately wanted to yank out.

Deciding that silence was better than trying to explain, you turned your back on him and began walking away. John, however, was not going to let that happen. Not yet anyway.

“Wait,” John said as he caught up to you, stepping in front of your path.

“Move,” you ordered, but he just sighed, already dreading the conversation.

“Come on, (Y/N), there’s two of us and if this nest is full then we should be able to take them.”

“What nest, John? All I see is a decrepit building with a whole lot of nothing. I told the hunter that gave me this case that there was probably nothing to it. Looks like I was right.”

“Or maybe you weren’t and there could still be evidence of a nest,” John said, trying to persuade you. “Come on,” he tried again. Looking between him and the shed, you finally relented and with a sigh nodded for him to go ahead. “Right, always makin’ me go in first,” John jested.

“You’re idea, big man,” you shot back, and even with his back turned, you knew he was rolling his eyes. It was odd the way the two of you just slipped back into the routine of jabbing at one another. You didn’t like the way it made you feel, that knife only twisting further.

You and John took either side of the main door in the end, both pulling your weapons. John counted to three before reeling back and kicking in the door, splintering the hinges. Immediately, you were met with darkness and when John clicked on his flashlight, you crossed your arms in annoyance.

“Told you,” you said, gesturing to the empty room around you. “Not even a shred of‘ghoul-ness’.”

“That’s not a real word,” John said and you gave him a rude gesture to which he just frowned.

“So, you’re still an ass. That’s nice to know,” you said.

“And you are still as charming as ever,” John retorted, finally turning to face you in the dark of the shack. “The years have certainly not changed you, honey.”

“Don’t call me ‘honey’,” you shot and he raised his hands in surrender. After staring at each other for a moment, you gave up and left the shack and John behind. He silently followed after you in the woods and you didn’t have the energy to scream at him.

“Main road is the other way, (Y/N),” John called out, his boots somehow not making a sound as he walked along the debris-littered forest floor.

“I’maware, Winchester,” you called back. “Not goin’ to the main road.”

“Then where are you going?”

“Do you care?”

“Maybe,” he said. “I’m allowed to wonder.”

“Then you can just keep on being the curious cat you are,” you said with a roll of your eyes as you crested a small hill. John jogged to catch up and stood beside you as you looked out at the city below, all lit up in the dark of night. “John, go home.”

“I’m in no rush,” he said.

“Maybe I am,” you whispered.

“What was that?”

“Nothing,” you said as you began to descend. “Just go, John.” He ran to keep up with you and when you turned to snap at him again, you heard a low howl echo through the air. You froze as the sound entered your bones.

“What?” John asked, noticing your change in demeanor. In the distance, you heard the unmistakable sound of an animal running, many animals. You didn’t even need to look at your watch to know that it was after midnight. All the negative emotions you had been feeling towards John vanished at that moment and all you could think about was that you didn’t want to be alone anymore.

And so, you just whispered one word to him, “Run.”

——-

You and John ran through the woods.

He didn’t even hesitate or ask questions when you had told him to run. There wasn’t time and he clearly understood that from your tone of voice. He kept up with you as you sprinted, not daring to look back. When you spotted an old annex building down another hill, you picked up your speed.

Slamming into the door, you fumbled with the lock. John arrived shortly after, pushing you to the side and aiming his weapon. With a single shot, he blasted the lock from the door and wrenched it open, pushing you inside. He followed and then slammed the door shut. “Help me with this,” he ordered gesturing to a metal cabinet.

The two of you dragged it in front of the door, but you knew it wouldn’t hold. Nothing was going to stop them from getting in. “This is all your fault,” you rasped, trying to catch your breath.

“How?” he asked, staring at you with wide eyes.

“If you had just listenedto me,” you said, though you didn’t mean it, “then maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.”

“I don’t even know what this goddamn mess is,” John shot back. “Whatever it is, we can wait them out.”

“Whatever,” you said, as you began to pace.

“You’re still a bitch too, huh?”

“Seriously?” you asked, not in the mood for his attitude. In fact, all you wanted was for him to hold you and not talk, but you were too proud to admit that, especially to a man like John Winchester.

“Sorry, but it’s true and you know it,” John spat back.

“I’m not the one that ruined us,” you said, hating the words that came from your mouth.

“Aren’t you? You never cared about what happened to you on hunts. Hell, you were so damn reckless more times than not, always running into situations halfcocked and full of anger.”

“I never cared? And youdid?”

“Are you kidding me? I always offered to go with you!”

“AndI told you to stay the hell home with your boys. Or did you suddenly forget about Sam and Dean?” you asked and you knew it was low, but you couldn’t stop yourself. John’s face turned dark at your words. He stepped closer to you, his eyes almost deadly in the dark of the room.

Don’t,” he said in a low voice, “Do not bring my boys into this, (Y/N).”

“Tell me where they are right now, because I know damn well that they aren’t with you,” you said, gesturing around you with wide arms. John was silent for a moment before taking a step back.

“Sammy is at school and Dean is on a hunt of his own, they aren’t kids anymore.”

“All grown up, huh? Good for them.”

It was shortly after that when John stopped talking altogether. He wanted nothing to do with you at that moment and all you wanted was for a little human contact. Yet, you couldn’t stop trying to push him away. John was right, he was alwaysright, you hadbeen the one to ruin the two of you, but it was for a good reason.

At least that was what you kept telling yourself.

As you sat behind those walls, the howls got louder and you couldn’t help the shivers that ran down your spine. You had been expecting this, you were ready, but you never expected to not be alone when it happened.

“I’m sorry,” you suddenly said, getting John’s attention who saw across from you. “Your boys are off-limits. Always have been. I didn’t mean to bring them up.” John just nodded, accepting your apology. At least that was still the same, the ability to read him like an open book. He was quiet for a bit longer before he finally looked at you.

“Bobby told me that you were attacked,” he said, trying to offer some sympathy.

“I’m fine now,” you told him.

“You were in a hospital for a month,” he pointed out, moving closer to you, clear worry on his face.

“I survived. I always do.”

“You should have had back up,” he said.

“My back up was my other gun,” you said in defense. John ran a hand down his face in exasperation.

“Dammit, (Y/N), when are you going to realize that you pushed me away. I haven’t felt the way I feel about you since Mary. Do you not understand that? Have you ever?” You shook your head, not wanting to hear any of it. You knew how he felt about you, he had made it abundantly clear multiple times.

He had even offered you a chance to stay with him for more than a weekend here and there. John had wanted you to meet Dean and be with him officially. A part of you wanted that more than anything, but then you would think back to your current situation and it would all disappear, the hope and the wanting of the future.

That wasn’t in the cards for you. Not now, not ever.

“John,” you whispered, “I am notsomeone you want to be around.” Speaking those words had felt like there were hands around your neck and you were choking them out.

“Why not?” he asked, trying so hard to see the world from your perspective, to know what you were thinking.

“I have demons in my past,” you admitted.

“Honey, we all do,” he said and your heart dropped at his use of the pet name that had become very familiar to you.

“No, you don’t understand,” you whispered. “I mean I have actualdemons.” John’s brow furrowed, confused and so you continued. “You once asked me why I always seemed on edge. Well, baby, I’m reachin’ my ten years.”

“What are you talking about?” John asked, his eyes never leaving yours.

“I made a deal,” you said. “In order to get away from my abusive ex-husband, I made a deal with a crossroads demon. Ten years of peace and then…then I’m going downstairs. Midnight tonight is when the clock ran out.” John was already shaking his head before you finished. He moved forward, taking your face in his hands. You could feel the rough callouses that littered his palms from all times he handled a blade.

“No,” he whispered. “I will not let that happen.”

“It’s hellhounds, John. That’s what’s coming for me. You won’t be able to see them, but I can,” you said as the tears dripped down your cheeks. His fingers caught them as he looked at you as if his world was falling to pieces right then. “It’s time and I am being so damn selfish because I don’t wanna be alone right now.

“(Y/N)…”

“They won’t hurt you, I promise,” you explained, trying to get him to look you in the eyes.

“No,” he said again, still trying to deny the inevitable.

“Yes, John, I’ve already accepted it,” you said, leaning your forehead against him.

“Is this why you pushed me away?” he asked.

“I’m sorry, but I had to. You already lost one love, I couldn’t be the reason you lost another.

“Dammit,” he said, clutching you tighter to him.

“Please don’t be mad. I never intended to become so fond of you. I never expected to fall in love with you because I do, I love you so much and I never stopped.”

“I love you too,” John managed to get out.

“I need you to promise me something because I don’t think I have much time left,” you said, choking on the riding sob in your throat.

“Anything,” he promised.

“The next time you see Sam, tell him you love him. For me, please.”

“(Y/N)…”

“No, I need you to listen to me,” you said, leaning back to look him in the eyes so he would understand. “I know that the two of you never get along and I also know he struggled growing up on the road. I need you to tell him that his father still cares about him. He needs to hear that whether he knows it or not. None of us hear it enough.

“Stop,” he begged, but his voice was barely above a whisper. You kept going.

“I know that Mary was your forever John,” you said, smiling through the tears, “but you were always mine.” John hastily rubbed at his face, not wanting you to see what he thought was his weakness, but you thought he had never looked more beautiful than in that moment kneeled before you.

“We were never supposed to die,” he said, reminding you of a laughter-filled conversation one evening in the backseat of his truck.

“John,” you whispered and he looked into your eyes as if he was trying to memorize every ounce of them. “Don’t forget to love again.”

“No,” he said. “You’re it. Nobody else, I’m done.” John surged forward and kissed you with every bit of love he had in his body, holding you tight to his chest. You couldn’t hide the sobs now as you kissed the man you loved.

You pulled away just as something bagged against the door, rattling the walls. John held onto you tighter, afraid you were going to be snatched away at any second. “You’ll be okay,” you told him as you detangled yourself from his arms.

“No, no,” he whispered as you stood us and made your way to the door.

“Our legacy lives on, Winchester,” you said, pushing the cabinet from the door and bracing your hands on the buckling wood. “Don’t let it completely end with me or your boys. The world needs Winchesters and I was just solucky to know one of them.”

“Please…” he begged, but you were shaking your head.

“Don’t say anything else. Just remember what I told you and tell Sam, Dean too. They need to hear from their dad more than anything. You may not see it, but I do. The three of you need each other. One day, you’re going to change the world.”

“I’ll tell them,” John promised. “I’m so sorry, (Y/N).”

“I’m not,” you said, shaking your head. “I got to have one epic love in my life and not many people can say that.” Reaching behind you, you unlatched the door and threw it open. “Until we meet again, John. Thank you, for loving me.”

John cried out the next moment as you fell to your knees and long red lines appeared down your neck as the hellhounds descended. Yet, as you were being pulled away from him, you smiled, and then, in a rush of cold air, you were dragged away and you were gone.

——–

John didn’t know how long he sat there as he stared at the space you had disappeared through.

He didn’t know if he’d be able to find your body or even if he wanted to. He would be lying to himself if he hadn’t thought about you in the years after you left him alone in that motel room. John never stopped loving you and the fact that when he had found you again, you were taken from him was as cruel as it got.

However, this time he couldn’t fix it. There was no singular demon to hunt and kill. You had made a deal and you had chosen to take the consequences when the bill came due.

Leaning back against a stack of crates, John felt for his phone in his jacket. His thumbs fumbled on the keypad for a moment before pressing the number one on his speed dial.

It didn’t take long for his eldest to answer. Dean answered groggily from the other line and all John could think about then was you and your final words to him.

So, after taking a deep breath, he finally spoke to his son, “Hey boy, have you heard from your brother lately?”

Song I Wrote To: “Something I Need” by One Republic

Note:This one is something I thought of one night as I was falling asleep. This one is GN!

——–

In the tense quiet of the Men of Letters Bunker, an Angel and a hunter were engaged in a serious battle.

“I do not understand the purpose of this game,” Castiel said as he sat across from you, his eyes never leaving yours.

“It’s a staringcontest, Cas. The purposeis to not look away,” you explained. His brow furrowed as he continued to stare at you, but you could tell that he wasn’t really getting it. Also, it was then that you realized Angels didn’t actually need to blink. “This is futile, isn’t it?” you asked Sam who sat to your left.

“Absolutely,” he answered with a small smile. With a huff, you broke off the stare and slumped in your seat. Cas still looked just as confused.

“Remind me to challenge Donna the next time we see her,” you grumbled and Sam nodded, trying not to laugh.

It was just another day with the Winchesters and their Angel best friend. You had been tagging alongside the trio for a while now. After meeting Dean on a hunt in Alabama, you had joined them periodically on their missions and then eventually visited their secret hideout and just never left.

Currently, you and the boys were at a crossroads with an angry spirit not far from the Bunker. You and Dean had trekked through a nearby graveyard but still couldn’t find the bones of one David Boss. By the time you had returned home, Sam had announced that he was going to call in the big guns.

Also known as Rowena MacLeod.

You had never met the witch but had heard many things about her from Sam, Dean, and Castiel. Some good, some bad, but it seemed to be a general census that the woman was as powerful as it gets.

“Sam, where’s your witch?” Dean asked as he walked into the library.

“She’s not mywitch,” Sam grumbled, but Dean just grinned sending a wink towards you and Cas. The latter just rolled his eyes, already annoyed with Dean poking fun at his brother. You sat back and watch the three of them interact, incredibly entertained.

Not long after, a loud banging echoed through the Bunker, and Sam jogged up the stairs to pull open the door. “Samuel!” a lovely Scottish voice said as light filtered down the stairs from outside.

“Hey, Rowena, thanks for coming,” Sam said, shutting the door behind the witch. You stood up as a petite and fiery woman entered the room.

“Andwhois this?” Rowena asked as she looked at you, her eyes scanning you from head to toe. You leaned back against the table, taking in your fill of the woman before you as well.

“Rowena,” Sam said, “this is (Y/N). (Y/N), Rowena.” The witch strutted forward and offered her hand to you, you took it in your own with a smile.

“Well, if I knew that you were thishot, I would have asked Sam to call you sooner,” you flirted with a wink. Rowena looked at Sam with her brows raised.

“Oh, Samuel, I think I like this one!” Rowena said as you let go of her hand. Sam sighed and rolled his eyes. Castiel watched the interaction with exasperation as usual, but Dean wasn’t as amused.

He never understood how you were so…openwith everyone you met. You were a very flirtatious person and he had figured that out quite soon after working a case with you in Louisiana. However, while you tended to flirt with everyone, Sam and Cas included, you never aimed your winks and cheeky grins at him and he’d be lying if that fact didn’t keep him up at night.

It didn’t take long for Sam to catch Rowena up on what was going on. Rowena was very familiar with the kind of spirit that you all were dealing with and knew just what to do to vanquish the rest of the spook that was still hanging around causing issues.

“I am going to need to make a run into town,” Rowena said as she examined the pantry of spices and spell ingredients the Bunker had. Rowena then turned to you with a glint in her eyes. “Care to accompany me, Darling?” she asked and you were surprised by her offer, but then offered her your arm with a slight bow.

“It’d be my honor,” you joked and she took it.

“Ah! See boys,” she addressed Sam, Dean, and Cas, “this is how a woman should be treated.”

“Just go get your spell stuff,” Dean said curtly and Rowena waved him off and the two of you floated from the room. Dean watched after you, his jaw clenched. As soon as the door shut behind you, Dean sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

“What?” Sam asked.

“Anyone else catch that?” Dean asked.

“Catch what?” Cas asked, sinking into a chair next to his best friend.

“Rowena and (Y/N),” he said. “They were getting a bit…chummy.”

“Chummy?” Sam asked and Dean narrowed his eyes at his little brother.

 “You know what I mean,” Dean said.

“Dean, you know (Y/N), they’re like that with everyone. I don’t think it ever means anything,” Sam reminded him.

“Yeah, whatever,” Dean grumbled. Over Dean’s shoulder, Cas and Sam shared a look that didn’t go unnoticed by the older Winchester. “Stop it, you two.”

———-

When you and Rowena returned, you both were laughing.

Sam, Dean, and Cas all looked up from their spots at the war table as the two of you skipped down the stairs. “Quite the witch in training you have here, boys,” Rowena complimented. You knocked her shoulder gently with a smile of your own.

“No, not me,” you said with a shake of your head. “I prefer the more physical side of hunting. Isn’t that right, handsome?” you asked Castiel who coughed awkwardly. Next to him, Dean just blinked, trying not to look at you.

“Well, I can’t argue that this one doesn’t have taste,” Rowena said as she walked by Cas, not being shy at all as she checked him out. Cas, who was used to it, just sighed and then followed after the witch to help her prepare for the spell.

Once Rowena had everything she needed, the spell went perfectly. You weren’t the biggest fan of magic. Any time you were around it, it never ended well. You knew that it was a part of being in the supernatural world and understanding it, but still, as soon as the chanting started, you took a step back.

Observing, you noticed how Sam watched Rowena very intently, making sure he understood everything she did. While out with her, Rowena had told you that Sam had a gift for the magical arts. She figured that out of any hunter she had ever met, he was the closest thing to a witch there was.

You hadn’t seen Sam work many spells, but with a mind like his, you knew she had to be right. Dean and Cas helped with the spell, handing Sam and Rowena whatever they needed, and soon enough, purple smoke rose from the pot Rowena was stirring, and then she was smiling.

“Well, there you go,” Rowena said with her signature smirk.

“That’s it?” Dean asked.

“Oh,Dean,” Rowena said gently, “this spirit was not a spirit at all, it was more of a remnant of an evil one long ago. Happens occasionally even if the bones are charred. However with a little bit of magic and the help of my lovely assistant,” she looked at Sam, “we are able to put poor Mr. Boss to rest.”

“It was that easy?” Dean asked.

“When you’re me, it is,” Rowena said with a wink and you chuckled from your spot by the bookcases.

“Well,” you announced, “I say we deserve a drink.”

“I second that,” Sam said. Soon everyone began relaxing. Rowena was going to head out in the morning so the Winchesters offered her a bed for the night.

Just as the witch finished telling a story about a young Crowley, you got up to go to the kitchen in search of another beer. Entering the kitchen, you ran into Dean who was leaning against the stainless steel counter.

“Want another one?” You asked, holding up your empty bottle as you tossed it into the bin. Dean glanced up from his phone that he had been scrolling on and then shook his head.

“No,” he said curtly and then walked from the room without another word. You looked after him in confusion. Dean had been weird around you lately and you weren’t exactly sure why. Although, you knew that he was working through a lot since he got the Mark.

The Mark of Cain had become more of a problem as the days went on. Everyone was trying to find a solution for removing the infernal thing, but so far everyone had nothing. Brushing off his cold shoulder, you grabbed another beer and left to rejoin the group.

When you returned to the Library, Dean was nowhere to be found. “Where’s Dean?” Sam asked.

“No idea,” you said, reclaiming your seat across from Rowena. “He just walked away when I asked him if he wanted another beer.”

“He’s probably in the garage,” Castiel said with a sigh as he stood up and headed out of the library, his trench coat swishing behind him. You turned your attention back to your drink as Sam and Rowena gave each other a knowing look.

—————

“(Y/N) knows that something is wrong,” Castiel said as he walked up to Dean who was leaning over Baby’s hood.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Dean said with a one-shouldered shrug.

“Right,” Cas said, leaning against the car. “Dean, look at me.” When the hunter finally relented and looked at the Angel, he crossed his arms.

“What?” He asked.

“You know,” Cas continued, “for someone who has always told me to embrace human emotions, you are quite horrible at it.”

“Wow, thank you,” Dean deadpanned with a roll of his eyes, but Cas was not done yet.

“You know that they care about you, Dean.”

“Do I?”

“Do you think that (Y/N) would still be around if they didn’t?” Cas asked. Dean furrowed his brow.

“Are you saying that I am difficult to be around, buddy?” Dean asked, a bit of humor lighting up his eyes.

“At times, yes,” Castiel admitted and Dean shook his head with a chuckle. He should have known Cas was one to always tell the truth.

“So, what kind of wise advice do you have for me this time, Cas?” Dean asked.

“I think I’m all out of wisdom, Dean, but I do know that you’ll figure it out,” Cas said as he headed back inside, “you always do.”

———–

Later that night, you sat alone in the library flipping through an ancient text. After a while, the words started to blur together, but you forced yourself to stay awake. You had to.

For him.

There wasn’t much literature on the Mark of Cain, but you had to try. Even though you all had combed through every book in the Men of Letters’ libraries, you felt the need to go through it all again just in case any of you missed something.

Reaching for the cup of coffee that now sat empty, you sighed. “You don’t have to do that, you know,” a voice came from behind you. Sitting up straighter, you saw Dean approaching you. He sat down next to you at the table, a tired look on his face.

“It can’t hurt,” you said with a shrug. You flipped another page and then his hand came across yours, stopping you. He then closed the book, gaining your full attention. It was silent for a moment before Dean finally clasped his hands together and looked at you in the eyes.

“I’m sorry for being a dick earlier,” Dean said and you frowned slightly.

“It’s okay,” you said. “I mean, I get it.” Dean shook his head, running a hand over his jaw.

“No, you don’t,” he argued. Dean looked at you with almost a pleading look in his eyes as if he was nearly begging you to see the honesty and truth that he was feeling.

“Dean, you don’t have to explain how that thingmakes you feel. Besides, Cas and Claire, they already gave me the rundown. Sam, too, so don’t worry about it.”

“It’s not the Mark,” Dean said softly and you froze for just a second before looking at him in confusion. You prided yourself on knowing what the Winchesters were always thinking. They were a lot easier to read than they thought, but at that moment, Dean was a solid wall that you couldn’t break through.

“Then what is it?”

“It’s just… You’re just always so flirtywith people,” Dean finally admitted and you had to bite your tongue from laughing out loud. Instead, you opted for a slight chuckle. Dean looked slightly embarrassed, but you grabbed his hand to reassure him.

“Is that bad?” you asked, still trying to hide your smile.

“No!” Dean exclaimed and then lowered his voice a bit. “No, not at all. I mean, look at me, who am I to judge, right?”

“And yet?” you asked.

“You never do it with me. The flirting,” he said and you let go of his hand awkwardly. Dean noticed immediately and looked away.

“Oh,” you said, unsure of what else to say.

“Yeah,” Dean said, his voice lower than usual. You noticed that he did that when he was either embarrassed or nervous. Looking at him, you felt emotions swell in your chest that you hadn’t acknowledged in some time. It was easier to not think about Dean when in reality, he was all you thought about.

“I guess,” you began and Dean looked back at you, surprised to hear you actually answering him. “I guess it’s because I get nervous.”

“About what?” Dean asked. His green eyes drilled into yours and you figured now was as good a time as any to be honest.

“With the others, with Cas or Sam, it’s just fun and lighthearted jokes. However, when it comes to you, it’s different.”

“Why?”

“Dean…”you said softly, trailing off. You looked at him, urging him to understand everything you were feeling just through a look. It took him longer than usual to pick up on what you were trying to say and then his face softened.

“Oh,”he whispered and then very carefully took your hand in his. Dean lifted your hand and placed it under his chin, holding it tight as he looked at you. “I never realized.”

“I’m sorry if you thought that I didn’t…” you said.

“Don’t apologize, (Y/N),” he said, shaking his head, his stubble scratching along your knuckles. “I was being an ass and stupid as usual. I guess we both weren’t seeing clearly.” You moved your hand from under his chin to the side of his face. Dean leaned into your palm and it was oddly intimate, but it felt nice.

“Let me help you fight this,” you whispered, your other hand ghosting over the Mark that was branded on his right arm. “Please don’t make me lose you.”

“You won’t,” Dean promised, moving closer to you. “Especially not now. Hell, it’s going to take a lot more than this damn Mark to make me leave you.” Dean then reached forward and cupped his hands around the back of your neck and pulled you into him. Your lips met and you completely forgot about the book that lay in front of you. As you kissed Dean Winchester, the only word that came to mind was,Finally

In the other room, Sam and Rowena leaned around the corner, eavesdropping on the conversation.

“I told you, Samuel, that friend of yours has good taste,” Rowena said with a grin.

“I hate when you’re right,” Sam said with a mocking smile.

“No, you don’t,” Rowena said and then reached up and patted his cheek with a wink before strutting back towards her room.

Sam rolled his eyes, took one more glance at his brother and you who were finally taking that leap, and then ran after his witch.

Song I Wrote To: “Sweet Creature” by Harry Styles

Note:Okay, I am not that great with embracing my own curves, so I hope I did okay with this…. Ketch isn’t someone I know inside out when it comes to writing, but I think I managed to do alright with his character. Also: while this is a reader insert technically, the reader is curvy as per request so just lettin ya know.

——–

The lavish hotel room was warmly lit as a champagne bottle chilled in a silver ice bucket.

Arthur Ketch lazily lounged against the headboard watching as you poured yourself another glass of bubbles. In the professional sense, you were a contact for the British Men of Letters living in America. Ketch had met you not too long ago when the two of you had run into each other while on a hunt in Nova Scotia.

The British Men of Letters had caught wind of multiple sirens acting in one area which in itself was odd. You had been passed along the case by a fellow hunter down in Maine and jumped at the chance. Meeting Mick and Ketch had been interesting, to say the least.

Mick was nice enough, but he wasn’t much of a hunter when you had been introduced. Ketch, however, well he was everything a hunter should be and more. You tended to work jobs alone, but even you had to agree that this would require all hands on deck.

All three of you managed to finish the job quickly and just before you headed back home, you had casually slipped your number into Arthur’s jacket. That is how you now found yourself in the current situation.

Anytime Ketch was available, he made his way to the states to visit you. You were curvy, strong, and packed a hell of a punch when it came to a fight. However, there was something about Arthur that made you just melt at the sight of him. He was the one person in a long time to make you feel that way.

Currently, Ketch was in America trying to convince a pair of brothers to work alongside him and his organization. You liked Ketch a lot, but there was no way you would take him up on the offer if he had offered it to you. When it came to the Winchester brothers, you knew they weren’t going to go along with it either.

You had never met the brothers, but every hunter in the country knew of their reputation and the company they tended to keep. You thought the Brits were incredibly brave considering the Winchesters had both Angels andDemons on their side. They even employed a witch at times. You only hoped that Ketch knew what the hell he was doing.

“Any update on Mick?” You asked, sipping from the flute in your hands. With a sigh, Arthur approached you and placed his hands on your shoulders.

“No more Mick talk and no more discussing the flannel monkeys,” Ketch said, running a hand down your spine.

“Flannel monkeys? Is that what we’re calling them now?” You asked, very amused.

“We can call them whatever we want as long as we table the discussion for now,” Ketch said. He then reached over and plucked the glass from your hands and set it down on the table. “Come dance with me,” he whispered.

“There isn’t any music, Arthur,” you said, trying to hide a smile.

“Who says we need any?” He asked as he spun you around. You laughed as he took you in his arms and swayed back and forth, smiling the entire time.

Looking up at him, you felt so happy. Arthur took your hand, spun you out of his arms, and then back into them, your back hitting his chest. When his hands slid up your waist and then over your stomach, you froze.

Ketch noticed your hesitation immediately and then dropped his arms. “Did I do something wrong?” He asked, instantly worried. Turning in his arms, you began shaking your head.

“No, no, I just…uh…” you weren’t exactly sure how to put any of it into words, the way you were suddenly feeling.

“What?” Ketch asked, patiently.

“I’m…shy,” you tried, though that didn’t seem like the right word either. As Ketch looked at you, you began to feel odd. Your hands came up to cover your middle and you began to shift on your feet. Something you always did when you were nervous or when you were overthinking. In this case, it was definitely a bit of both.

After a moment, he seemed to understand. “You’re self-conscious,” he said softly and you narrowed your eyes, attempting to deny it even to yourself.

“I wouldn’t say that…” you said, trying to play it off, but Arthur raised one of those dark eyebrows of his and you caved. “So what if I am. I’m allowed,” you argued. Arthur smiled down at you.

“Why?” He asked, genuinely curious.

“My stomach it’s not exactly…” you trailed off again, gesturing with your hands.

“It’s not what? Beautiful?” Ketch asked with a scoff and you jumped slightly at his words. “Because you may need to look in the mirror again, Darling.” You rolled your eyes, but Arthur wasn’t backing down.

Stepping closer to you, he placed his hands on your hips. “May I?” He asked and you took a breath and then nodded. Ketch slid his hands up your sides, lovingly. “You are stunning, (Y/N),” he whispered. “Sexy,” he said as he leaned in and kissed your cheek. “Brilliant.” His arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer as he ran his hands across your abdomen softly.

Your hands lay on top of his, trying not to meet his eyes, feeling the blush that crept up your cheeks at his words. “Arthur,” you said softly, breathing in the smell of his cologne.

“Every strand of hair,” he continued, “every little smile, and every curve is everything I see when I go to sleep at night. No matter where I am, Love, you are on my mind. You are sobeautiful and I can never be truly worthy of you. I love you, all of you, I never want you to forget that.”

A single tear rolled down your cheek and you quickly brushed it away. You looked up at him and took his face in your hands, leaning up. He met you halfway and pressed his lips to yours. You kissed him swiftly but with love in your heart.

“Arthur,” you said again.

“Yes, Love?”

“Take me to bed,” you whispered against his lips. With a grin, Ketch lifted you into his arms and spun you around to the large bed that took up most of the hotel room. Laying you down, he kissed you from your lips, down your neck, across your collar bones, all the way to your stomach. When he returned to hovering over you, he gazed down at you.

“I know Angels exist, but nothing compares to you,” he whispered. You laughed, grinning up at him.

“That is so cheesy,” you said.

“You love it,” he said with a wink and then you pulled him back to you, relishing in the feel of Arthur Ketch as he proved just how much he loved you.

Hinterlands- Chapter 11

There are places in our psyche that we keep hidden and rarely visit - not necessarily because they’re that unpleasant, but because they’re chaotic. We can’t make sense of what doesn’t make sense- maybe we don’t have the language for it, or the wisdom was never imparted to us, or it’s such a unique experience to the individual that we can’t unravel it. We prefer to deal in absolutes, stick with what we know, and shy away from and/or avoid that which reeks of confusion - and in this sense, confusion is often an all-encompassing term for guilt, anger, shame, the ugly sides of love, and the emotional equivalent of disembowelment.

But sometimes we like to visit. Sometimes we need to. And how we approach these houses of pain is always different- we can look at it from above, or maybe glance back. Sometimes we sit and have tea and biscuits, sometimes we get drunk and stay, get high and numb ourselves to it.

It takes true, fantastic talent to navigate those waters and weave them into a story. And that’s what this is. Tricia’s words dug into me like she was soul reading - etheral and sometimes painful. She had me visiting places in myself that I’ve long neglected, long avoided, long shunned. She took me to places in my mind that I wouldn’t dare mention out loud. I saw my own secrets being reflected and shared - and there is tremendous power in that.

This story isn’t happy. But it’s fucking real. There were times I cried and I didn’t know why. There were times I sighed in relief, finally seeing something put into words, realizing that while we may be alone in our dark abyss of thoughts and deeds, someone else’s pit is right next door. The imagery here, the viceral-ness is astounding. And Tricia delivers it in a way that you don’t notice at first, but it takes root and sticks beneath your skin.

So I guess what I’m trying to say to people is that they should read this. And to @lastactiontricia …thank you

Warnings: Language (as usual), Jensen being flirty, drinking

Words: 1324

A few months had passed since Jensen had cornered you in the break room and spoke to you alone. His words still rang in your head.

I know that we’ve had a rollercoaster of a friendship, if you can call it that, especially these past few months… But if we don’t feel the same way I think we should be open about it so that we can stay friends. I don’t wanna lose you, Y/N. And I don’t want our work to be awkward anymore. I want things to go back to normal.

Normal. Whatever the hell that means.

It had occurred to you after you spoke that since Jensen had to have known about your feelings for him that he didn’t feel the same way towards you. For some reason that never really sat right with you, you always felt that he liked you. That he really liked you, as more than just a friend.

It had been another night of no sleep and you let out a loud groan as your 5 am alarm rang through the space of your bedroom. You shuffled around your apartment getting ready for the day, all while thinking about how many nights it had been that you stayed awake thinking about Jensen. Too many. Your morning routine was essentially down to a science, pop a bagel in the toaster while you do your makeup, check your email while you pull on your clothes, brush your hair while you swish with mouthwash, etc. Finally you were out the door and jogging down the stairs to your precious car, Lucy. She was your rock. The thing that was there for you when nobody else was while soothing your heart with good music. That car had travelled miles with you, you’ve laughed, sung, smiled, and cried in that car. You’ve made memories in that car. Something you took for granted until your realization this morning, so you simply rubbed the steering wheel and smiled.

You plugged in your phone, threw on some Zeppelin, and headed off to work. Something in your world had shifted today and while you weren’t sure why, you were grateful for the happiness you felt.

“Eric!” you yelled in a sing-songy voiced as you pushed the door open to his office.

“You’re awfully cheery this morning, Y/N” he remarked without looking up from his clipboard.

“Yeah I’m just in a good mood today. Woke up on the right side of the bed, I guess” you chuckled as you flopped down into the chair across from him at the desk.

“Okay, here’s the list of scenes we’re shooting to accomplish today” he slid the paper to you across the desk, “All in-house today. No other locations.”

“Oh thank god, I really did not feel like going far from the wondrous new espresso machine in your office” you grinned wide as you looked over your shoulder to see the beautiful copper piece of machinery that made Eric a much more delightful person in the morning.

“You and me both, Y/L/N. You and me both” he huffed out a laugh and pointed to the door, “Now get the fuck out of my office so the interns can bother you instead of coming in here to bother me.”

“Aye aye, cap’n” you threw a sloppy salute and made your way out onto set where your chair was waiting for you.

Work had passed in a blur and honestly the day went pretty smooth for the most part. After work, you were making your way to the parking lot when you spotted someone leaning against the sleek black metal hood of your car.

“Misha?”

“Hey, Y/N. Wanted to know if you’d come out to the pub with the boys and I tonight?” there was a curious pleading look in his eye.

“Is Jay gonna be there?” even you couldn’t tell if it was hope or disgust in your voice.

“Yeah, Jared will be there” that stupid smirk plastered across his face.

“Mish. Seriously.”

“Yeah, Y/N. Jensen is going to be there. I hope that’s okay, I just really want you to come out with us. It’s been months and I miss my favorite girl who can drink us all under the table!” he squeezed your shoulder and put on his best puppy dog face.

“Ugh I’m no match for your pathetic pleading face. Let’s go. Someone else is driving because I want to get plastered tonight.”

“Hell yeah!” he grabbed you by the wrist and nearly started dragging you across the parking lot to Mark’s car.

“I’ll be driving, my love. No drinks for me tonight” that sickly sweet English accent came rolling off Mark’s tongue as he shut the driver’s side door and started the car.

Misha flashed you an award-winning smile and fist bumped you as the car pulled out of the lot towards the pub.

“Holy shit it’s my favorite assistant producer!” Jared cheered from across the bar, beckoning you over to the table that he, Jensen, and Rob were seated at.

“Hey Jare, long time no see” sarcasm dripped from your words as you hugged the giant man you saw only an hour ago.

“Robby!” you hugged the scruffy man, nearly knocking him out of his chair.

“Hey Jensen” a smile stretched across your face as you hopped up into the tall bar chair right next to the man you had a ridiculously large crush on. You could feel your heartbeat in your ears whenever he was around, even when you could smell his cologne on your shirt after he slung an arm around your shoulders.

“Hey, kitten, how are ya?” his words sounded a little slurred and kitten what the fuck was that for?

“Kitten?”

“New nickname I’m tryin’ out. Ya like it?”

Your body was screaming yes, yes, you loved it. All of your nerve endings were on fire and you could feel the tiniest bit of wetness pooling in your core when the word left his lips.

“S’alright I guess” you sent a wink his direction and clinked your beer with his before taking a swig and he followed suit.

“Next round of shots is on me, boys” you slammed your empty beer bottle down on the table as the men around you cheered, raising whatever alcohol they had in their hands.

The shots were placed on the table, two of them for each of you. You downed both in a matter of seconds and looked up to Jensen who had the most sinful smirk on his face, maintaining eye contact with you as he downed his second shot. Cherry Pie by Warrant started playing over the speakers and you found yourself extending a hand to the rugged, handsome man in front of you. He took your hand as you pulled him out towards the open area in the bar where others were dancing.

The alcohol was living up to it’s name as liquid courage as you pressed your back to Jensen’s chest as the two of you swayed to the music. His strong hands found their way to your hips as he pulled you even closer so there was no space between your bodies.

“I’m glad we’re back to being friends sweetheart” his lips were millimeters away from your ear and his hot breath gave you goosebumps.

“Me too, Jay. And for the record, I liked the other nickname better” you smirked as you pressed back into him with added pressure while your hips swayed.

“I like it better too, kitten”his voice was a low growl as he placed a kiss to your neck just before the music stopped.

When the two of you got back to the table, the looks on everyone else’s faces were… smug, to say the least. However, within minutes all of you were back to drinking and having a good night.

The only difference was the looks that you and Jensen were shooting each other’s way.

Sam got the woman to the hospital just in time for you three to head back to your dad’s cabin and regroup. You and Dean are sitting at the table staring at your dad’s flask, Sam is on the phone with the hospital, Meg is drinking your beer, and Castiel is making more sandwiches for you three to eat.

“Okay, thanks,” Sam says before hanging up. “She’s fine. She’s checking out of the hospital tonight.”

“Well, that’s positive,” Castiel states, passing a plate to you and Dean with sandwiches on them.

“Thank you, Castiel,” you smile politely.

“Tell me again why you turned tail for some maid?” Meg asks. “You were right there.”

“Can you shut the hell up for once? Please?” you sigh. “We’re not like you, Meg. We don’t just care about ourselves. We help people no matter what. That’s not something you’ll ever learn.”

“Because Dick made more Dicks,” Sam says. “He must’ve kept a chunk of the original Dick Roman somewhere. Uh, they’d all have to touch it.”

Castiel clears his throat and washes the dishes, not commenting on anything.

“Hey, shifty, what’s your problem?” Dean asks.

“Do we need a cat? Doesn’t this place feel one species short?”

“We already have a dog,” you say and point to Zeus who barks.

Joanna mimics the dog and barks in her own way, and you giggle into her hair. She looks at her daddy and reaches out for him so he can hold her.

“It’s not like I carried you for nine months or anything.”

“Dada,” Joanna grins.

Dean takes her into his arms, trying to hide his smile. He is beyond happy that she said his name first before yours.

“You got anything to say on the topic of Dicks? Crowley was pretty sure that you could help,” he says once his daughter is in his arms.

“I can’t help. Do you understand? I can’t. I destroyed… everything, and I will destroy everything again. Can we please just leave it at that?”

“No, we can’t,” you say and stand up. “We can’t leave it. You let these fucking things in.”

“So, you don’t get to make a sandwich. You don’t get a damn cat. Nobody cares that you’re broken, Cas. Clean up your mess!” Dean says harshly.

You look at Dean in shock that he would say something like this to him. Behind Castiel’s eyes is pain at the harshness of his words, but he doesn’t show it. He puts down the dishes he is holding and walks over to Dean.

“You know… we should play Twister.”

Castiel disappears right before Dean’s eyes, and Meg rolls her own.

“Nice. You scared off the Empire’s only hope.”

“Meaning?” Sam wonders.

“Has it ever occurred to you every one of those things was in Cas? He knows them. He can see past the meat suits.”

“He’ll be able to spot the real Dick.”

“Gold star, sugarpants. Too bad he’s Fruit Loops. You might’ve had a chance.”

There is a sound of angel wings fluttering, and you turn to see Castiel with a Twister board on the floor. You honestly don’t even recognize your friend anymore. You’re not sure what you can do to help him recover from whatever pain he had to go through while healing Sam. All you can do now is just watch him and make sure he doesn’t disappear again. Dean and Sam continue to watch the security cameras while you hang with Castiel and Joanna on the floor.

“Come on, say ‘mama’. Ma-ma.”

“Dada,” she smiles.

“You know exactly what you’re doing, don’t you?” you ask with your eyes narrowed playfully.

She makes spit bubbles and laughs, and you can’t help but giggle in response.

“There’s no real point in looking for a tell. They all downloaded Dick’s brain. They’ve all got the same tells,” Dean groans.

“Alright, then maybe the question is, what would the real Dick be doing?”

“Is that the best you can do? Idjits,” your dad makes an appearance.

“Bobby. We didn’t know if you’d–”

“Well, you should’ve. You got the flask. Dumbass. You should’ve burned it right off.”

“Bobby.”

Your dad motions for you to follow him outside, so you three separate from Castiel to go outside and talk to your dad.

“I’m still jonesing to go back, grab some poor bastard, and kill them going after Dick. It’s bad. Let’s be real. I damn near killed you and that woman.”

“It wasn’t your fault, Bobby–not really.”

“Right. That’s just what ghosts turn into. I really bet the farm I could outsmart that.”

“So, what’s it feel like?”

“What? Going vengeful? It’s an itch you can’t scratch out. Look… I’m done. Go get Dick, but don’t do it because you think it’ll scratch the itch. Do it because it’s the job, and when it’s your time… go.”

You can’t seem to look at your dad because if you do, then you know you’d be a crying mess. Of course, you don’t want him to go, but he can’t stay like this forever. You were scared of this exact thing happening to him and to you.

“Y/N?”

“I don’t want you to go,” you whisper emotionally.

You know he has to, but this just hurts too damn much. Dean gets up and takes Joanna from you so you and your dad can have a moment alone before you say goodbye to him for good. You and your dad step off to the side so that the men don’t have to go anywhere.

“This is exactly what I was afraid of. I was afraid of feeling this way a second time.”

“I just want you to know how proud I am of you. You’ve surpassed my expectations as a witch and as a mother. There’s no one I’d rather have as a daughter than you. I’m sorry I’ve put you through this pain, but I didn’t want to leave you and Joanna.”

“I love you so much,” you sniffle.

“I love you more. I don’t know where I’m going, but just know I’ll always be here to watch over you. You’re never going to be alone, you hear me?”

“I know.” You look over at Sam and Dean who quickly look away as they pretend not to listen. “Okay, we’re ready.”

He and Sam take the flask and go out back where they start a small fire to put the flask in. Dean has the flask in his hands while you hold Joanna, but he can’t seem to do it.

“Here’s to… running into you guys on the other side. Only… not too soon. Alright?” your dad says.

“Goodbye, daddy,” you whisper.

“Goodbye, darling.”

Dean tosses the flask into the flames without the leather cover on it. The more it burns, the more your dad is closer to the end. You look at your dad and watch as flames envelope his entire body. You let out a sob and turn to your husband who takes you into his arms.

“Mama,” Joanna finally says, touching your cheek.

“Yes, I’m your mama,” you smile through your tears.

You look up and see Castiel watching you from the back window, and there is a certain look of uncertainty in his eyes. You pull away from Dean and leave the fire to go back inside. The brothers put out the flames a few minutes later and followed loosely behind.

“Cas, I need a wingman,” Dean clears his throat.

“Dean…”

“You don’t want to jump into the jaws of death, that’s… fine. How about we run a little errand? You too, Y/N.”

“Can you watch her?” you ask Sam and pass her off to her uncle.

“Sure.”

Instead of driving there, Castiel offered to be the ride. Dean gave Castiel the location, and you know exactly where he wants to take you two. He’s going to the place where his precious car is being stored for the time being. You know he really misses her, but it’s only a matter of time before you can use it again. With a flutter of angel wings, you and Dean disappear from your dad’s cabin to the place where Baby is being stored.

“Thanks for the lift.”

“My pleasure.” Dean walks to his baby and lifts the corner of the tarp covering her, smiling softly at the shiny metal. “Dean…”

“I know you’re scared, Castiel,” you cut in before he can say anything more. “I’m scared. You let these things in, and they beat you, and now you’re afraid of facing them because they might beat you again. I understand that, but we have a way to end this. It doesn’t matter what you did, Castiel. It matters what you do now, and you’re the only one who can help take all of them down. You did a bad thing, but that doesn’t make you a bad person.”

“I’m not good luck, Y/N,” Castiel whispers.

“She’s right, you know. Bottom of the ninth, and you’re the only guy left on the bench… Sorry, but I’d rather have you, cursed or not. Anyway, nut up, alright? We’re all cursed. Do we seem like good luck to you?” Dean says the same thing but in his own way. Castiel stares at the two of you with an unknown look on his face. “What?”

“Well, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I detect a note of forgiveness from both of you.”

“That’s because we’re giving it to you, Castiel. You’ve earned it.”

“Well, I’ll go with you, and I’ll do my best.”

“Thanks,” Dean says with a small smile.

“So, can I ask what the plan is?”

“Well, according to Crowley, Dick knows we’re coming, so we’re gonna announce ourselves–big,” Dean smirks.

“Go big or go home,” you shrug.

Dean never lets anyone drive his precious Baby, but he had to if he wanted to distract most of the Leviathans. You hated this idea, but you had to have Meg drive it so that the Leviathans would think it’s you instead of her. While she is speeding up to the doors, you and the Winchesters went through the back and split up. Sam is going to go find Kevin since they are holding him here, and you and Dean go with Castiel so he can point out where the real Dick is.

“Take her. Keep her safe, okay? I can’t kill Dick if I’m worried about her,” you say to Sam and hand Joanna to her.

“Of course.”

“Mama,” Joanna whines, reaching out for you.

“Not now, baby. You’re going to be with your uncle Sammy, okay? Be a good girl.”

You kiss her head and look at Sam before leaving for Dean and Castiel’s side.

“We’ll be right back, sweetheart,” Dean sighs.

He kisses his daughter before leaving so that it’s not any worse than it already is. You leave with the two men, trying to find the best way to Dick without raising suspicion. You’d rather not kill a bunch of Leviathans only to alert Dick and have him get away. It’s too quiet in this building, but you have a mission to do. Every Leviathan you see, you have to make sure they aren’t the real Dick based on Castiel’s opinion. When you see a Leviathan, he looks at them and nods yes or no if they are the real Dick.

Each one you pass is the wrong person, so you have to continue on until you reach the real one. Gunshots ring out from the front of the building, and you know Meg is doing her part. You only have so much time before Dick is alerted by them dying.

You’re about to walk past a conference room that had glass walls when you notice Dick sitting in there alone. You stop and look at Castiel, nodding to the room to tell him there is someone in there. You move out of the way so he can peek inside, but when he shakes his head at you, you know you have to keep looking.

If you had to guess, Dick would be in the bottom level where the labs would be so as to keep everything he’s doing out of the public eye. You three take the stairs to the labs which also have glass windows and walls. You turn the corner and see Dick and another Leviathan dressed like a doctor. Castiel peeks at them from behind you, and when he nods his head, you know you have your guy.

You bend down and sneak past the window so he won’t be able to see you when you come to a door that has access to the room. You unlock it with your magic and tiptoe inside, not alerting either Leviathan. Dick is standing there with his back to you, holding some kind of small creamer. You believe this will end mankind as you know it if he gets this distributed.

“You know, I think this might end up the slickest little genocide in history,” Dick chuckles, downing the small container.

“Thank you, sir,” the Leviathan grins, packing a box with the small creamers.

“Just sayin’. I smell 'promotion’.”

You sneak up behind the Leviathan and form a magical sword since it’s a lot quieter than Dean unsheathing his machete. You slice right through the Leviathan’s neck, cutting his head clean off. He gargles up blood but drops dead. If Dick didn’t know you were here before, he does now. He crushes the creamer container in his hands and turns around, making eye contact with your bright blue ones. He looks down at his friend, but he doesn’t have any reaction.

“Little abrupt… but okay,” he chuckles. “Castiel. Good to see you again. Thanks for the ride into paradise.”

Dean reaches into his jacket pocket and removes a bone soaked in blood. If you’re dealing with Dick, you have to be smarter than he is. The first rule of dealing with the diabolical ones is that you always need a back up, and this is your back up weapon. This is the distraction while you have the real one on you.

You just have to figure out the best time to use it.

“And good on you for pulling that together. A-plus.”

“Oh, you don’t think this’ll work, do you? You trust that demon?” Dean asks, stepping over Dick’s dead friend so he can get closer to him.

“You sure I’m even me, Dean?”

“No, but he is,” Dean says, gesturing to Castiel who glares at him. Based on Dick’s reaction, you know he doesn’t like that Castiel knows who everyone is. “See, here’s the thing when dealing with Crowley–he will always find a way to bone you.”

“This meeting’s over.”

Castiel is the first to try and take down Dick, but the Leviathan is quick to overpower him. Dick grabs Castiel’s shoulders and throws him into the wall behind him, watching as the plaster cracks beneath him. With him distracted, Dean uses that fake weapon and stabs Dick in the chest. He gasps and staggers, but this, of course, doesn’t work on him.

You have the real thing.

Dick laughs and removes the bone with no issue, snapping it in two with his bare hands. You have to be smarter than Dick if you want to kill him. You think back to what your mom said to you when you were in your magical coma after trying to defeat two Leviathans.

“Leviathans are powerful creatures, and it takes a lot more than normal to take them down–more than what you and your daughter can provide.”

If you can’t combine your magic with your daughter’s to defeat Dick, then you have to use your other abilities to achieve it. You close your eyes and take a deep breath to calm yourself, and because of it, you think of the perfect solution. Dean and Castiel don’t know what you’re going to do, they just know you’re going to do something.

“Did you really think you could trump me?” Dick laughs.

“No, but she can.”

You open your eyes just as a wave of magic stems from your body onward. Everything slows down until it stops completely. You have stopped the effects of time once again, and not even Dick can go against that. You look at Dean to see him smirking because he knows that your side is going to win. Castiel looks very worried because in his mind, there is doubt you can pull this off. Dick looks cocky because Dean’s words haven’t sunk into his brain just yet. The more you use this power, the more you have control over it.

You make sure not to touch anything or anyone–you don’t want to fuck this up before it’s even had a chance to start. You maneuver to behind Dick, looking to your left through the small windows on the doors. You can see Kevin and Sam rush over to the room with Joanna in your brother-in-law’s arms.

“I hope you know how much I love you,” you say to Joanna even though she can’t hear you. You’re not even sure why you’re saying this, but you have a feeling something bad is going to happen. “I hope you know that your dad and I would do anything to give you the childhood we never had. I hope you get that, baby girl.”

You turn back to Dick and take the real weapon out of your jacket pocket. A single tear slides down your face as you return time back to normal. Your magic is sucked back into your body as if it never left. Dick looks around for you, and you reach up to tap his shoulder. He swiftly turns around to face you, your feet are almost touching with how close you two are.

“This is for my dad, you Dick.” You take the real weapon and slam it into his neck, watching as it sticks out on the other end. You’re blown back from the impact, knocking into Castiel. Dick yells in pain and in agony that he lost this battle to a couple of hunters. “Don’t fucking mess with a witch next time.”

As soon as you stick that weapon in his neck, Sam and Kevin come barreling into the room with worried looks on their faces. Dick’s face transforms into his Leviathan form before returning to normal. Black blood starts to pour out of his nose and mouth, but he isn’t fazed by it at all. He starts to laugh evilly, in a way that makes your skin crawl. Waves of energy pulsate from his body in time with a loud, accelerating heartbeat. Suddenly, the energy is sucked back into his body in the same way that your magic was sucked into yours.

Due to this, Dick explodes into black goo. You close your eyes to shield yourself from the blast, but when you open your eyes, you’re not in the lab anymore.

In fact, you’re not even in the same environment.

You scramble to your feet and look around you to gauge just how bad this is. You’re not in the Sucrocorp building anymore… you’re in a dark forest. There are whispers and shuffling coming from all around you, but you can’t see anyone with your normal vision and your magic.

“Dean!” you shout.

You don’t think that’s a good idea, but you’re alone and scared.

“Sam!”

No one is answering you, which makes you think you’re all alone here.

“Joanna?” you ask, but much more quietly.

Tears brim your eyes when you have no clue what you did or even where you are. More importantly, what happened to Sam and your daughter? And why aren’t they with you?

You grab Joanna and walk to the bedroom so you can get ready as well as get her ready. You set her on the bed and watch as she stands and bounces on the bed gently. You chuckle and grab one of your shirts from the drawers. You look at the shirt and just sigh, taking a seat on the end of the bed. You’ve been waiting for this moment for months, to kill Dick for killing your father. You have all the ingredients, you have the weapon, now you just need a plan of attack.

You’re so much in your own head that you don’t hear the bedroom door open and your husband walk in.

“You okay?”

“This has to work Dean,” you sigh and look up at him. “If it doesn’t, he’s going to kill us and Joanna. That’s a guarantee.”

“That’s the exact reason why this is going to work. You’re a damn light witch, and the best one at that.”

“I want him dead for what he did,” you say emotionally, sniffling to keep the tears in.

“You’re going to get the chance to avenge your dad’s death. We’ll make sure Joanna is out of harm’s way. We’ll keep her with Sam and have him hang back if that will make you feel better.”

“I love you.”

You stand up and kiss him with everything you got, keeping in mind your daughter who has no idea what is going on. You pull away and turn to the bed to get dressed when your daughter does something you knew was coming for a while now but didn’t know it would be now. Dean starts to leave the room, but she doesn’t want him to go just yet. The bed isn’t as hard as the floor, so she wobbles and falls a few times as she tries to run to him.

“Dada,” she says, reaching out to him.

Both yours and Dean’s jaws drop but for different reasons.

“Traitor,” you gasp playfully.

“What the hell did she just say?” Dean gasps.

“Dada!” Joanna says again, reaching out for him.

“Yes, I’m your daddy!” Dean laughs happily.

He picks Joanna up and spins her around, kissing her cheeks.

“Do you know who I am?” you ask her, taking her tiny hands between two fingers.

“Dada!” she squeals.

You look at Dean and see hints of tears in his eyes. You know how much this means to him, and you’re glad he got to have this moment.

“Are you okay?” you chuckle.

“I’m just happy,” he whispers truthfully.

You haven’t seen that smile in a long time, and you’re glad he has it now.

“Well, you definitely got a Daddy’s girl. Come on, let’s get ready.”

You quickly change into more comfortable clothing before leaving the bedroom. You smile widely when you hear Dean talking to his baby girl as if she can talk in full sentences. You have no clue what is going to happen later, but you’re glad you got to her hear first word and see her first steps.

You don’t know what’s going to happen, but you have a feeling it won’t be good.

You’re finally outside of Sucrocorp, but you have to have a plan instead of going in half-assed. You have to scout the area, see where Dick is, and then follow up with a plan. There are three of you, so you have more wiggle room here. Dean parked a ways away from the building, using binoculars to see while Sam is using his laptop to get into the cameras using whatever Charlie left on his laptop.

“You got it yet?”

“Here we go.”

You scoot further up so you’re right behind the brothers to see the laptop. Sam’s laptop shows footage of the board room where a meeting is still in progress. Dick is sitting there talking to his fellow Leviathans, and your eyes narrow.

“Thank you, Charlie, wherever you are,” Sam mutters.

“Got you, Dick.”

“Yeah, that’s the second floor.” The screen changes to show more cameras, one of which is the camera right outside Dick’s office where you can clearly see him sitting at his office, alone. “What the hell? Is that Dick?”

The screen now shows footage of Dick walking alone in a hallway.

“Son of a bitch. This motherfucker told everyone to look like him so we wouldn’t know who the real Dick is,” you curse.

“Cycle through again,” Dean orders.

While Sam is doing that, you grab the binoculars and notice someone walking to the front door. When you clear your vision, you notice it’s the maid you saw at the motel when you left Emily all alone. It’s the same motel room your dad went missing from.

“Son of a bitch,” you curse.

“What?”

“That’s the maid from the motel. The room where my dad disappeared to. We found him.” The maid walks to the building in determination. “Oh no, dad, what are you doing?”

“Wait. Are you saying that Bobby–”

“Look, just, uh, wait here.”

“I’ll go with you,” Sam says.

“Are you two out of your mind?”

“Don’t worry, Dean. I have the weapon, you have eyes on Dick, plural. We’ll take care of my dad. We’ll be right back.”

“Sam! Y/N!”

You and Sam leave the car without waiting for Dean’s response. You two rush over to the maid before she could even enter the building and alert all the Leviathans there. Sam decides to take the direct approach while you hang back just in case something bad happens. Sam rushes in front of the maid, holding his hands to stop her.

“Bobby? I know you’re in there. Listen to me. There are cameras everywhere. There’s one right there.” Sam points to one nearby. “Stop, okay? You’re gonna get her killed.” Your dad pushes Sam to the ground as hard as he can, but that doesn’t stop Sam from getting back up and trying again. “Bobby! Damn it! How are you gonna kill Dick, huh? You can’t!”

Your dad takes out a large knife from one of the maid’s pockets.

“Good enough for me,” she says in a distorted voice.

Your dad slashes at Sam to get him to move out of his way, and you gasp at his behavior. Sam looks up at the security camera and practically tackles your dad to the ground behind a parked vehicle to stay out of sight of the cameras.

“No! I’m not letting you go.”

“Get out of here, Sam. You too, Y/N.”

“No!” you yell.

Your dad slams Sam into the car and grabs his throat, squeezing it tightly.

“Daddy! Please stop!” you squeak, tears leaking from your eyes.

Your dad turns and looks at how scared you are. You would use your magic, but you don’t want to end up hurting the poor woman that he is inhabiting. Your dad knows how reckless he’s being, so he forces himself off Sam and leaves the woman’s body so that he’s a ghost again. The woman falls to the ground, but before she could crack her head open, you rush to catch her.

“We can’t be here.”

Sam coughs as he gathers himself. Your dad’s flask is inside the maid’s pockets, so you take it and place it in your own. Once Sam can breathe properly, he scoops the woman into his arms. You can’t get Dick tonight because of what your dad pulled, so you’ll have to score for tomorrow. If Dick was here all day today, then you know he is going to be here all day tomorrow. You and Sam bring the woman to the car where Dean is as confused as ever.

“What the hell happened?” Dean wonders.

“Just drive. We’ll explain later.”

Dean has no choice but to listen.

You figured with all of your resources and people you know, you would have found your dad a lot sooner. He’s been missing for a whole ass month, doing whatever he’s been doing to try and get Dick Roman off his high throne. You have no way to track him down, so you have to wait until he comes to you instead of the other way around. The only thing you can focus on is your family and the fact that your little girl is now eleven months old. She is almost a year old, and you have no clue what you’re going to do for her birthday.

She is walking and is so close to talking, you can feel it. She is babbling a lot more and trying to imitate you or Dean whenever you sound out words to her. Your little girl is growing up so quickly, you can’t keep up with her. Before you know it, she is going to be going to preschool, and then she’s going to go to her prom.

Moments like these are special, and you have to hold them close to your heart because this only happens once in a lifetime. You can have more children, but there will always be one Joanna, so it’s going to be different with every child you may have. These moments are far in between because you’re this close to finally killing Dick. All you have left to do is grab Crowley’s blood and get a righteous bone, which is where you three are heading out to do.

You’re keeping Joanna entertained in the back seat with your magic. You’re making it rain down in sparkles and wisps, capturing her attention. She has bright green eyes, but the blue magic makes her eyes sparkle more. She coos and reaches out for the magic, but it’s always just out of reach for her.

“Are we almost there?” you ask.

“Exit is in three miles,” Sam says.

“I still say this is a bad idea,” Dean sighs.

“Dean, it was your idea, and it was the best one either of us had,” you chirp.

“I said it as a joke.”

“It was a bad joke–good idea.”

“Yeah, only because we got no magic spell, no book, and nothing on how to find a fucking righteous bone.”

“We can call Castiel again.”

“No, you know what happened last time. Y/N and I finally had some alone time, so we took the car out for a night, and just when things might have gotten good for us, Cas showed up naked on the car covered in bees.”

“For an angel, he was packing,” you grin.

“Really? That’s what you were focusing on?”

“Don’t worry, Dean. You’re bigger,” you whisper to him.

“Okay, I don’t want to hear that,” Sam cringes.

“What? From what I hear, you’ve seen how big he is.”

“You told her?” Sam asks and looks at his brother.

“Can we focus on what we’re doing here? Dick is held up at Sucrocorp right now. If we’re going to get him, that’s where we’re going to do it.”

Dean pulls off at the exit and heads to the cemetery where you’ll find your righteous bone. This cemetery was popular for housing a bunch of nuns back in the day, so if you’re going to find a righteous bone, this is where you’re going to do it. Dean only suggested this a joke, but it’s the only option you have right now. You head into the dark cemetery with Joanna in your arms. She managed to fall asleep in her car seat, but as soon as you moved to take it out, she woke up and started crying. As soon as she was in your arms, she fell back asleep.

This girl is going to be the death of you. She is her father’s daughter.

“Well, I guess if we can’t find a righteous bone in a fucking nun crypt, then we won’t find it anywhere else,” Dean shudders.

“Alright. Here,” Sam says and stops outside of an above-ground tomb where a bunch of nuns is laid to rest. “Listen to this. Sister Mary Benedict taught the learning-impaired and died at age twenty-three.”

Sam did some research about the women who were placed here after death to see who might be the most righteous. You hate stealing one of their bones, but it’s what you have to do to get rid of Earth’s worst monsters.

“Eh, it’s a little young. Find someone who’s had time to cook.”

“Okay, well, there was Sister Mary Eunice. Uh, fed the poor and became Mother Superior at age sixty.”

“Sounds political. Power corrupts,” you state.

“Right. Okay, listen to this–Sister Mary Constant, eighty years of quiet, humble nun-like goodness. What do you think?”

“Wow. I want to be more righteous just hearing this. Well, I lay odds on her. Here we go. Let’s bone this nun.” You and Sam give Dean a weird look, and a blush creeps up his cheeks. “Sorry.”

He removes a mallet from his duffel bag and goes to town on the coffin. Joanna slept through the whole thing because you know she feels safe in your arms. As soon as you grab the femur bone, you take off back to your dad’s cabin. You have three of the four ingredients–Castiel’s blood, the alpha’s blood, and the righteous bone. All you need is Crowley’s blood.

You waited until you were back in your dad’s cabin to do the spell to summon Crowley. He made a whole point of making sure he was the last one because his blood was “special” and “can be used against him”. Paranoid bastard. Joanna is playing in her playpen, picking up her toys, and organizing where they go. It’s crazy how much she loves walking and running. She loves playing tag with Dean, squealing whenever he catches her. You know she’s doing it because she loves getting caught.

She’s going to make a great witch one day.

With everything in the bowl to summon Crowley, he lights a match and tosses it in there. Crowley loves making an entrance, but he is taking way too long to show up. Something is wrong. He either wants to screw you guys over or he’s in trouble. Either way, it doesn’t look like he’s coming.

“Is he trying to make a grand entrance or…?”

“I don’t know.”

“Son of a bitch. He’s standing us up.”

“He’s either screwing us over or he’s in trouble. I have a feeling Dick has something to do with it,” you sigh.

“Maybe.” There is a knock at the door, and Sam takes out his gun as a precaution. He walks over to the door and looks through the peephole to see who it is. “Maybe it’s good news.”

Sam opens the door revealing Meg. You roll your eyes when she walks in as if she lives here.

“Great,” you scoff.

“You deal with him. I can’t anymore.”

“You might want to be more specific.”

“I was laying low halfway across the world when emo boy pops up out of nowhere and zaps me right back here.”

“Castiel? Why?” you wonder.

“Go ask him. He was your boyfriend first,” she says to you and Dean.

You know Joanna is going to be safe with Sam in here, so you leave her in her playpen as you and Dean walk outside where Castiel is sitting in a red car in front of the cabin. You look both ways before crossing the street, stopping on the driver’s side where Castiel is.

“Hey, there,” Dean says, leaning on the car and bending down. Castiel raises his hand and waves but doesn’t say a word. “So, Cas, what’s the word?”

“Well, Dean, I’ve been thinking. Monkeys are so clever, and they’re sensible in that they leave the skins on the bananas that they eat. Is it really necessary to test cosmetics on them? I mean, how important is lipstick to you, Dean?”

“What?” you ask, very confused.

“You want to come inside and, uh, tell us what’s going on?”

“Of course.”

Castiel gets out of the car, and you escort him to the house where Sam and Meg are waiting. Sam is holding Joanna in his arms as she plays with his hair and tangles it in her tiny fingers, but he doesn’t seem to care. You’re glad he did this because you don’t trust Meg one ounce.

“Now, you understand I don’t participate in aggressive activity.” Castiel picks up the bone you stole and sniffs it. “Mm. Sister Mary Constant. Good choice.”

“Why’d you go to Meg, Cas?” Sam wonders.

“When I left, I wanted to observe the flowers and fruit. Flowers come first, obviously, but I heard nothing from them.”

“You heard nothing from who, Castiel?”

“The Garrison.”

“What happened to the Garrison?”

“Well, finally, the silence was deafening, so I went to look at the home of the Prophet. You know, Leviathans can kill angels. There’s a reason why Father locked them in Purgatory. They’re the Piranha that would eat the whole aquarium. They’re gone. The entire Garrison–dead. If there’s anyone left at all, they’re in hiding.”

“Wait, you’re saying all the angels are dead? Where’s Kevin?” you ask worriedly.

“I could steal them from their cages, the monkeys. But where would I put them all?”

“Hey!” Dean claps his hands in front of Castiel’s face. “Focus. Is Kevin alive?”

“I don’t want to fight.”

“No, I’m not–” Dean sighs and returns to his calm self. “We’re very worried.”

“They took him. He’s alive. I felt such responsibility, but it’s in your hands now.”

“Wait, hold on a fucking minute.”

“I feel much better.”

“Guys, what’s all that?” Meg asks, seeing the table you were using to summon Crowley.

“We called Crowley.”

“You what?”

“Don’t worry. He never showed.”

“What do you mean never–”

“Do you see him anywhere? He stood us up!” Dean cuts her off.

“Well, I’m sorry about that, but I’m out. He could still sh–-”

“Show up at any time,” Crowley finishes her sentence, appearing out of nowhere. “Hello boys and Y/N. Sorry, I’m late. This is an embarrassment of riches.” He turns to Meg who looks scared. “Stay, won’t you. There’s really nowhere to run.”

Meg runs for the door, but Crowley disappears from where he is to right in front of her, blocking her exit.

“Don’t even think of smoking out, pussycat. I’ve got eyes all over the place.”

“Leave her be,” Castiel says, coming to her protection.

“Castiel. When last we spoke, you, well, enslaved me. I’m confused. Why aren’t you dead?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, do you want to be? ‘Cause I can help with that.”

“Alright, that’s enough,” you butt in.

“It’s enough when I say. I came here to help you. I find out you’ve been lying to me, harboring an angel, and not just any angel–the one angel I most want to crush between my teeth.”

“Oh, so you can crush angels now, huh?” Meg sasses.

“You bore me. Do you know that? You have no sense of poetry.” He turns to Castiel. “Now, what do you have to say for yourself?”

“Well, I’m still, uh, honing my communication strategy. I haven’t even been back to Heaven. I-I keep thinking there are no insects up there, but here we have trillions. You know, they’re making honey and silk and… miracles, really.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Um, preferring insects to angels, I guess. Here. I can offer a token if you like.” Castiel pulls out a bag of a yellow substance from his trench coat. “It’s honey. I-I collected it myself.”

“You’re off your rocker. He’s off his rocker, is that it? Karma’s a bitch, isn’t it?” Crowley asks you three.

“Look, did you come here to donkey-punch your old grudges or to help us end Dick? Pick a battle.”

“Well, I’m vexed. I’d like to do both, but where’s the fun in clobbering a ball of wet fur? Text me when Sparkles here retrieves his marbles, I suppose. Meanwhile, a prezzie.”

Crowley takes out a vial of his blood and tosses it to you. You catch it easily and stare at it, looking at him suspiciously.

“Just like that?”

“I’m a model of efficiency.”

“Is that right? Then why were you late?”

“Dick had me in a devil trap. He’s not an idiot. He knows what you three are after.”

“What did he offer you?” you ask, pocketing the blood so he can’t take it from you.

“A fair deal in exchange for giving you the wrong blood. It’s demon, but is it mine?” He pauses for dramatic effect, but you’re not in the mood for it. “It’s my blood. Real deal.”

“Why should we trust you?”

“Good God, don’t. Never trust anyone. A lesson I learned from my last business partner,” Crowley sighs, looking at Castiel. “Oh, bonus. Meg, I’m gonna scoop you up, take you home, and roast you till you’re jerky.” Castiel feels protective over her and advances to Crowley, but he holds his hands up. “But not… yet. Cas can have you for now. Hilariously, it seems he’d be upset at losing you. The boys and Y/N need Cas to get Dick. Don’t they, Cas?”

“Oh, I–I don’t fight anymore,” the angel stutters.

“Come on. Given the particulars of your enemy, sadly, you’re vital.”

Crowley winks at you before disappearing, and oddly, Meg is gone too. You take the blood out and look at it, tossing it to Dean who catches it.

“Well, one thing’s for sure–we only get one shot.”

“You know this thing doesn’t reload, right? Dick won’t let us kill him twice.”

“Yeah, I know. You think Crowley’s double-crossing us?” Sam asks.

“You’ve got to figure who he wants dead more–us or Dick.”

“Depends what Dick offered. Here we go.”

Sam takes the righteous bone and places it in a different bowl, turning to another one where the blood is going to go. He pours Castiel’s blood in, then the Alpha’s, and finally Crowley’s. He takes the bowl of blood and holds it over the righteous bone.

“Uh, there’s no magic words. We just… just go.”

“Alright then.”

Sam pours the blood over the bone, but nothing happens when he does so. You’d figure lightning or thunder would happen, but nothing is.

“Where are all the thunder and lightning?” Dean asks, thinking of the same thing.

“Maybe it worked?”

“Awesome.”

You hear the sound of angel wings before you feel the touch of someone’s hand on your shoulder. You turn and see Castiel standing there holding a plate of sandwiches.

“So, none of this should cause you any ill effects. I went to a little farm in Normandy for the wheat and the lettuce and tomato, and I thoroughly examined and comforted the pig before I slaughtered it for the ham. Here. You three need your strength.”

“Thanks, Castiel,” you smile and take the plate.

“Cas, why was Crowley so certain that you need to come with us?” Sam asks, not taking his plate.

“Crowley’s wrong. I’ll be waiting right here. Please, accept this sandwich as a gesture of solidarity.”

“I’m going to get ready. We have a big day ahead of us,” you state. You take a bite of the sandwich and moan at how fresh and good it tastes. “Thanks for the sandwich.”

The library is filled with silence as you and Dean continue to stare at one another. No one has said a thing in the past fifteen minutes after what was just confessed. It wasn’t real before, more of a hope or a feeling, but now that it’s out in the open, it’s as real as you and Dean. Sam walked into the room five minutes ago, and he’s been watching you and his brother since.

“Are you two going to say something to each other?” Sam asks, breaking the silence.

“I already said something. It’s Dean’s turn,” you say and continue to look at the older brother.

Dean wants to say it back. He wants to tell you everything you want to hear. He wants to tell you that he’s so in love with you that it hurts… but he can’t. If he says it, then it becomes real, and then you could get seriously hurt because of it. Too many people have died because of him, and he is not going to let that happen to you.

If he pushes you away, then at least you’ll be alive to hate him.

“There’s nothing I need to say.”

If the sound of a heart breaking could be heard, then both brothers would hear it. You know he’s lying. You know how he feels, so why is he denying it? Does he not want to feel this way toward you? Maybe you don’t know him as much as you claim to know. The Mark of Cain has really changed him, and it’s not for the better.

“Well then. I guess there is no point in me staying here any longer,” you say and stand up.

“What? You’re leaving?” Sam gasps.

“Unless I’m given a reason to stay,” you ask, looking at Dean.

“If you want to go, then you should go,” he says and grabs his beer to drink it.

Without another word, you leave the table and march to your room, closing the door with a soft slam.

“Are you insane? You’re just going to let her leave?” Sam barks at his brother.

“What? She’s an independent woman. I’m not going to be the thing to hold her here if she doesn’t want to be here.”

“You know damn well that’s not what she meant.”

Sam scoffs and leaves the library to try and convince you to stay here. Dean may be impossible at some times, but he’d never want you to leave. Sam didn’t spend countless sleepless nights with Dean to hear how supple your breasts look in certain clothes.

That was three months ago, and you’ve been on your own ever since.

You didn’t want to know what Dean was up to because you left to get away from him. You went through a new guy every week just to try to get over him. It never worked, but you’re going to keep trying until Dean is no longer on your mind.

While you were trying to get Dean out of your mind, Dean has been doing everything he could to get you back into his life. He has a new look on life, and he’s no longer afraid of small things like death or losing a loved one. He’d never let you out of his sight, so he doesn’t have to worry about you leaving him. He has new powers–demonic powers–so things like fear and emotions aren’t in his vocabulary anymore.

The second he turned to the dark side, he knew where you were. He kept you in sight for months, stalking you to figure out when the best time to grab you is. You’re not hunting anymore, but you do go to hunter’s bars to meet men there. It’s pathetic, really, but given your circumstances, he understands.

For the past few months, you knew there was something over your shoulder watching you, but you could never figure out who it was. You’d know it if it were Sam or Dean since they aren’t very good at being subtle. However, whenever you do look over your shoulder… there is no one there.

Some people have a sixth sense of knowing when they’re being watched, and your sixth sense has been going off ever since you left the Bunker. It’s not a good kind of watching either–not like an angel watching over you sort of shit. No, this is more sinister as if you’re in danger.

It’s hard knowing there is something out there watching you, waiting for the right moment to strike. Not knowing when that moment will come.

The bunker is the only home you’ve ever known, and you don’t have any money to grab yourself a real place. So, much like what Sam and Dean did before finding the Bunker, you live in and out of motels around the United States. You take on odd jobs to help pay for it. It’s not ideal, but it works right now.

Or it did.

You put the key into your door, walking in when you get it unlocked. You’d just come back from a night of hustling men for money at pool. It’s something Dean taught you how to master. You take one foot in the room and immediately freeze. The lights are off and it’s in the same condition that you left it in, but there is something off about the room. You’re not even sure you want to go inside right now, but you do anyway just to prove to yourself that nothing is in here.

However, when you turn on the light, that’s when whoever is in the room attacks.

You’re slammed into the door behind you, and you look into familiar green eyes that you left a long time ago.

“Dean? What the hell! You fucking scared me!” you gasp.

“It’s nice to see you too. Long time no see, Y/N. You broke my heart when you left.”

“When I left? You let me leave! You didn’t want to man up about how you felt!”

“Yeah, and now I couldn’t care less,” he smirks.

He blinks and his eyes turn pitch black. Your own eyes widen in shock. The anti-possession tattoo is peeking out from underneath his shirt, so he can’t be possessed. Then how the hell is he a demon?

“You see,” he continues, “I’ve spent months watching you… listening to you breathe at night… watching you fuck those men… and I’ve come to realize that you were never theirs. No, you’re mine and only mine. I let you go once, and I don’t plan on letting you go again.”

“How the hell is this possible?”

“Anything is possible, sweetheart.”

For the first time in your life… you don’t feel safe in Dean’s arms… and the thought scares you.

A/N: Hello y'all! Thank you so much for this support and patience. I’ve been at college for a while and my dad also passed away so this chapter is out wayyyy later than I anticipated, but here it is! Hope you enjoy <3

The click of the Impala’s doors jars me from my racing thoughts, Cas glances my way and quickly opens his door, getting out of the car. I’m still feeling the effects of passing out, so hopefully Cas doesn’t just leave me here in case I faint again. Luckily, he walks around the car to my side, carefully opens my door, and helps me out.

“Do you need any help walking, y/n?” Cas asks while watching me hold onto Baby for support.

“I think I just need a second to get my balance back.” Part of me wants to just accept his help and walk back in to get whatever is going to happen over with, but I need a moment to prepare myself since Gabriel clearly didn’t want me to hear what he had to say.

“Let’s get this over with I guess.” I start walking towards the hotel room, still a bit shaky but Cas is right by my side in case I faint again, or if I tried to run I guess.

“Why do you say that?” Cas asks, focusing his eyes forward.

I scoff, “It’s pretty obvious, Cas,” I say looking at him, “your brother clearly has some kind of issue with me and didn’t want me around to hear what he has to say about me.” Cas slowly nods his head and keeps facing forward.

We reach the front door which Cas opens, stepping to the side and letting me walk in first. It’s very obvious that whatever Gabriel had said made everyone uncomfortable, even Mick and Ketch were looking at me like I was a killer or something. Since Gabe has since occupied my spot on the bed, I instead opted for the chair next to the door.

The atmosphere is so tense, I feel like I can hardly breathe. “So, what the hell, Gabriel?” I say, with zero response. Cas shuts the door and locks it, standing right behind my chair, as though I could actually go anywhere right now.

“We need to ask you some questions, y/n.” Ketch offers, making brief eye contact with me then looking back at the floor.

“Alright, well what kind of questions other than are you secretly hiding Asmodeus’ kid - which I am not by the way,” I say, looking up at Cas, still pissed at both him and his dramatic brother.

“We need to know everything that you remember, every last detail no matter how dumb or insignificant,“ Dean says.

"But I already-”

“And don’t say "I already told you everything, please believe me!” Because that’s clearly not true, alright?“ Gabriel interjects, standing swiftly from the bed, every word dripping with anger. I look into his eyes, hurt vivid in the whiskey color, stabbing at my heart till my eyes begin to water.

I look down at the floor, knowing everyone’s eyes will hold the same hurt and distrust. "I swear, on my life, that I have told you everything,” I say, voice shaking and on the verge of crying or passing out again. I wish I hadn’t bothered on this hunt in the first place. “And if you still don’t want to believe me, then fine don’t,” I say looking back up to Gabriel. Nothing changes in his eyes, Sam sighs and awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.

“Y/n?” Ketch asks. I glance at him but I can’t read him at all, I look back to the floor and lean into the side of my chair. “You’re sure that is everything you remember?” I nod and keep looking at the floor.

I can’t stand the anxiety creeping up, the image of Gabriel’s hate-filled eyes filling my vision. I can’t exactly blame him though, if I was sure that someone in front of me was the child of a monster that tortured me for months, I’d want them dead too. “Oh god, does everyone here want me dead then? I mean, I understand Sam and Dean not immediately believing me, but Ketch and Mick surely don’t”. I vaguely hear some footsteps walking towards me.

I realize it’s Mick as he crouches down and gently takes my hands in his. “It’s alright, ” he says, “look at me when I say this, okay?” I take a shaky breath and look at Mick, seeing years of trust and friendship in his face.

“The reason why we keep asking you is because when you were unconscious, whatever you were seeing or dreaming about, it had to do with Asmodeus…” I feel my chest tighten, I had thought it was just some twisted nightmare or my brain reacting oddly with the information I heard before I passed out. I don’t even know how to respond.

“Anything you wanna say that would clear this up?” Dean asks. Though it sounds more like a command than a question really, not that it matters anymore, at this point I’m at these people’s mercy.

“I’m one hundred percent sure, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I don’t even bother meeting anyone’s eyes out of both guilt and exhaustion, I should just go home at this point. “There isn’t a way for me to prove it, but I seriously am lost on what you guys are talking about at this point. So unless you want to tell me what happened, I’m feeling pretty shitty so it’d be great if I could just go home and rest, that okay with you?” It’s silent for a moment, and I look up to see Sam and Dean locked in a stare.

Sam slowly nods and so do Dean and Castiel. I shakily stand, and Ketch offers to help me to my car. I roll my eyes, “Gotta still keep an eye on me huh?”

“You did faint, twice so yeah I’ll stick with watching out for you.” I nod and give a weak goodbye to everyone and grab my jacket, keys safely inside and walk out the door, Ketch following close behind.

“You know I believe you right, y/n?” Ketch says, offering his arm for me to hold onto. I truly don’t deserve him or Mick, especially risking their reputations for helping me out. I hope that whatever I saw has a logical explanation for once. I hold onto his arm, his other hand coming up to gently hold mine, a reassuring gesture that calms my nerves.

“I’m glad you do, it means the world to me,” He hums in thought, “Just wish everyone else would I guess.” The rest of the walk to my truck is quiet, an odd occurrence with Ketch but welcome nonetheless.

“Thank you, Ketch, for believing me and everything,” I say as I climb into the driver’s seat. He only smiles and tells me to be safe but my mind is already somewhere else, as I watch him walk back towards the motel room, I think of options on how to handle this situation. I just lied to four strong hunters, an angel, and an archangel.

And if I came clean now I think it would only make things worse, maybe an old friend can help this whole thing get better and not worse.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The light ring of her doorbell draws me out of my thoughts, I certainly hope she’s home, the only other person I could go hideout with is - “No, I’m not hiding,” I need information before jumping to dangerous conclusions “I’m searching for other possibilities.” The only other people I could ask about this are Mick and Ketch, and I doubt that would go over well.
The front door clicks open, and Rowena immediately envelopes me in a hug. “I haven’t seen you in far too long, y/n! How have you been?” I smile and hug her tightly, thank god she’s home.
“I’ve been good! You’re right it has been too long. Um, could I come in for a second?” Her smile falters for barely a moment, confusion clear on her features.
“Of course, dear. Are you alright?” I swiftly walk inside her apartment and turn to face her.
“Can you promise me that whatever happens, you won’t tell Sam or Dean anything?”
“I wouldn’t dream of it, did they do something I should know about?” Rowena asks, raising her chin with an air of confidence and protectiveness.
I merely hold my head in my hands, my elbows resting on my stomach, and pause a moment, wondering how to break the news. “Do you remember doing a spell for the Winchesters a while ago? One that had to do with Asmodeus?”
“Yes I do, took me a few tries to get it just right but it got them a location for the demon. I heard you were helping them in this case, is that why you’re here?”
“Well yes and no. I was helping them on this case, but they didn’t ask me to come visit you,” I turn around and walk further into her home, taking a seat on one of her armchairs. “I had a weird vision and I don’t know what it means but long story short, the Winchesters, Castiel, Gabriel, and possibly Mick all think I’m the nephidemon they’re after.”
I look up at Rowena, hoping for her to keep this secret. We’ve helped each other out of rough spots before, I’m sure she can do it again.
“Okay, tell me about this vision of yours.” She states without judgment, taking the seat across from me.
I told her everything I can remember, and everything that happened after in the hotel. At some point in my retelling, she gets up and makes a quick drink for us both. Smells strongly of cinnamon but tastes more like a kind of tea.
Rowena takes her seat across from me again and cautiously says, “I don’t mean to add anything negative to an already distressing situation, but that vision sounds a lot more like an old memory resurfacing.” I nod, I already had a feeling that was the answer but hearing from her makes it so much more real. “I’m assuming you didn’t tell any of the boys about this memory,” I nod again, “And you’re needing a place to lay low for a bit?” A knowing smile gracing her face.
“That would be the best thing right now, Rowena. Thank you.” She smiles and waves her hand in a shooing motion.
“It’s no problem at all, I do love your company.” I laugh and fully relax for the first time since I left the motel today.
“Is it possible for you to do the spell again, but with the map only showing this city to see if I’m the thing Sam and Dean are hunting? Otherwise, it’s probably back in my town and I’d rather be sure.”
Rowena sighs and glances away for a moment, “That spell used a lot of rare ingredients so it would take a little finessing, of course, you’re welcome to stay here while you figure everything out.”
“Thank you so much, Ro, I owe you one.”
“Make it two,” she says, a playful smile evident.
“Deal. I just hope they don’t try to find out where I am right now. I told them I would be staying home until I felt alright to help them with the hunt.”
“I know Samuel knows where I live, but don’t tell them where you are for now, who knows what they’ll do if they think you’re Asmodeus’ child.”
“Yeah, especially Gabriel.”
She hums in agreement, deep in thought again. She looks back over to me and asks, “I’ll probably need some help, finding the ingredients needed for the spell and all that, would you be alright if I gave my son a ring and let him know what’s going on?”
“I’ve only ever heard of him but yes. If you could tell him to not tell anyone else then I’m totally fine with him being in the know for this situation.” Although I don’t personally know her son, Rowena is loyal to a fault and I can only assume he was raised with that quality.
She stands up and claps her hands together, “Excellent, I’ll go call him up right now and we can get this plan in motion.” I watch as Rowena leaves the room and faintly hear her talking on the phone with I assume to be her son. I allow myself to get lost in my thoughts, I haven’t truly had a moment to myself where I could focus on processing everything the boys back at the motel said. Time seems to pass by extremely slow, hours have probably passed but there’s no real way to tell. I’m practically sleeping while sitting up with all the exhaustion catching up to me.
There was a slight noise behind me. I spin around to see someone standing by the door, a man with a beard and long black overcoat.
“Rowena!” I call out, grabbing my knife from my belt as I jump to my feet. The witch came back into the room, hanging up her phone, the strange man doing the same.
“Y/n, there is no need for that knife,” I look from her to the man across from me, slightly lowering the knife but keeping it out in the open, “allow me to introduce you to my son, y/n this is Fergus, Fergus this is y/n.”
The man pockets his cellphone, I hadn’t even realized he was holding one at the time. He then walks over and sticks out his hand, “Crowley, actually,” I shake his hand and place my knife back in its spot on my belt, “I have heard many things about you, and I have what you and my mother need to test your theory.” He gestures to Rowena, then a table in the next room covered in ingredients, sitting next to a small map of the immediate area. I have no clue how he could have possibly gotten all those ingredients this soon, but I’m certainly grateful he and Rowena are willing to help me.
“Wait, how on earth did you get all of these things so fast?” I ask.
Crowley laughs and replies cheekily, “I have my connections and a number of them owe me a favor or three, figured now is a good time to call them in.” I nod, looking between him and the table containing my fate. “Plus, it has also has been hours since you came here so I did have some time.”
“It’s been hours?? No, that’s not possible. I know I completely lost track of time but I’ve been sitting here for hours? I hope Ketch hasn’t tried to call me or anything, not like I have any answers for him yet.”
“Alright, let’s do this then,” I say, walking to the table and sitting down in front of it. Rowena and Crowley follow suit standing on either side of me. They begin saying the spell, adding different items as every word is spoken. Rowena beginning, and Crowley continuing where she leaves off. The tension builds as every second passes, I almost start shaking with anxiety but I take a few breathes to try and calm myself down.
A flame erupted and covered the map, making me jump in surprise. At first, it seemed as though the fire would destroy the whole map, but then as suddenly as it began, it went out. Leaving behind Rowena’s apartment building and the surrounding area. My only reaction is to sit deeper in my chair and pray to wake up from this nightmare.
A grounding hand falls gently onto my right shoulder, I know it’s Rowena but I have no idea what expression is on her face. Crowley cleans up the mess of the charred map and carefully disposes of the used up ingredients.
“Crowley,” I say, still looking at the table where my fate was revealed. I hear him come back to my left side and hum in recognition, “is there any way you can convince the Winchesters that I have a reason for not returning to this case? I feel like they are already suspicious of me and this sudden disappearance certainly doesn’t help my case.”
The demon remained silent for a moment. I look up and realize he is focusing on Rowena intently. I hope he isn’t asking her to stick her neck out for me more than she has already. I know both of their reputations with the Brits and angels are shaky at best. And it won’t take very much for the Winchesters to go back to hunting them like another monster.
“Well, the best thing I could do is have you call them and say you have a sickness of some kind, and you have to figure out what’s going on before you can continue the hunt in person.” He glances between me and his mother, and I feel her move. I turn to see her nodding her head, unsure if it’s for permission or as encouragement.
“How would they know you were in contact with me without looking like you were hiding something?” I question. I really do appreciate Crowley risking his life for me, but I can’t just expect it right off the bat.
He smiles mischievously, “I have my ways darling,” I nod with a small smile, “however,” Crowley continues, “then you have a tough choice to make.”
“And what could that possibly be, other than needing to seriously consider making me disappear to avoid whatever the other hunters of the world would want to do to me as some kind of disastrous hybrid?” I can tell that my little outburst concerned Crowley and Rowena, both stiffening and standing taller. I just hope it doesn’t deter them from keeping this a secret.
Crowley clears his throat and waves his hand in front of my face saying, “First of all, in case you haven’t heard, Lucifer had a child. Jack is his name, and even though his father is and always will be a monster that should be destroyed, Jack is one of the kindest so-called monsters to exist.” He grabs a free chair and drags it over to sit eye to eye with me. His eyes are earnest and his face caring, “You can hate yourself later, but right now there is no time for that. You’ve already given the Winchesters far too much time alone with too little information on why you’re not there. So, the tough decision is to choose between saying you’re doing so bad that you can’t afford to even take a phone call from them,” I look at him in disbelief. I mean, does he really think these people will believe that amount of bullshit?
“There’s no way they would ever buy that. They may be trusting but they aren’t stupid.”
“You’re completely right, dear,” Rowena chimes in, “the other option which they will be more likely to believe, is that you can still help with research, tracking possible demon signs, and call them if you have any ideas. But it’s best to go to someone you trust to see what made you faint and feel ill.”
“I wonder who those people would be,” Crowley chuckles at my comment. I know it’s going to be hard to lie, and even harder to tell a convincing lie, but there is no other way to protect people. I can’t stand the thought that all my life, I was protecting my town from horrific creatures when I should have just left and gone underground from the very beginning.
“Y/n, I know how you became a Hunter, and I know it breaks you inside thinking that you weren’t fully human these years. But don’t lose sight of all the good you’ve done, the lives you’ve saved and changed.”
“You a mind-reader or something, Ro?” I question the witch. She merely laughs and winks as she walks over to my go bag sitting on her beautiful couch.
“Now all that’s left to do is give those boys a ring.” She hands me my phone and I scroll through my contact list, landing on Ketch’s number. This has to happen at some point, if I keep them all in the dark it will only make this situation worse.
My screen then lights up with his contact picture, I guess he decided to give me a call instead. I answer it worried about what he might say. Rowena and Crowley quietly left and whisper in the room next to me as I pick up the phone.
“Hello, y/n. How are you feeling?” I sigh with relief, he still sounds like a friend, not a suspicious ally.
“Hi, Ketch. I’m glad you called,” my voice shakes a bit with nerves, I’ve never lied to him or Mick and now the Winchesters and two angels are on their side. “I’m gonna be honest, I’m not doing as good as I was hoping today.”
He lets out a long sigh, “I was worried you might say that. Is it just leftover effects from the fainting episode?”
“To be honest, I think the faint was more of a warning. I don’t think I’ll be there for a while.” I’ve never been good with silence over the phone, but with this big a lie to the person I trust the most, the situation is already weighing on me.
“Well,” he finally answers, “you do know we happen to have two very capable angels here that would be more than happy to figure out what’s going on with you.”
“Yeah, that’s kinda the main problem.” I think sadly, “Yeah, I know, I happen to have two very capable experts that I’m going to go see about this weird sickness.”
“If you trust them, then that’s all that matters. Just keep me updated okay?”
It hurts hearing the care and patience coming from Ketch, I’ll have to make sure that no one ever realizes anything is off with me. “Will do Arthur, and hey, I’m sure I’ll be fine to do some research or demon sign tracking. Don’t count me out just yet.”
He laughs, sounding more confident, “Good with us, give me a call whenever you meet with these specialists, so I know you’re in good hands.” I promise to call him and quickly hang up. I don’t know what I did to earn such an amazing friend, but now I almost wish I never met him.
