The First Fountain
Once there was a little girl who loved to play in the water. One day she came to a little stream. She jumped up and down in it. At last she heard a voice from the grounds. She tried to run away but her feet were held fast. Her hair became streams of water. A fairy had turned her into a fountain.
my absolute favorite part of tumblr is how much you guys hate symbolism and like to pretend english teachers made up symbolism and authors never intended to write it. symbolism is what saves books from being boring and lifeless. i need you guys to understand how lazy and childish you look when you complain about having to find symbolism in books made for finding symbolism
Lmao Im a writer and fuck writing symbolism. Its all accidental
Also, sure there is intentional symbolism in writings. Crows and white pidgeons, hearts and roses, sudden overload of red and black everywhere as someone is about to be/was killed and hundreds more. Ok, I get that.
But trying to justify the colour of drapes in MC room by author’s mental state? Bitch, maybe he or she had the same drapes and just liked how they look in daylight. That strange glassy orb on bookshelf? Well, they had to put something here as a decoration, why not a glass orb. And that everpresent shopkeeper that always get’s in the way of street traffic? Well maybe there was a dude like that in authors real life who always pissed them with their loud shouting and smarmy voice so they put that idiot into their story and then got him killed first as a form of self satisfaction. No symbolism whatsover.
Just like @riverlovesyou1 said - fuck writing symbolism. It’s all accidental.
Thanks for bringing me back. And I’d like to say to @emeraldspiral that I get it. I really do. I even made an apology post about when I made this post because there are some symbolism that’s done on purpose but it’s too much when people are looking into it and using it like it’s some huge elaborate scheme.
But I agree with you. So many people push down the different ways and styles of writing. When I say it’s all accidental it mean all of the symbolism I’ve done in my novel(it’s a work in progress) has been on accident and that when I go back over it, I can add something small to enhance that it really is symbolism. But it’s still an accident.
Writing is an art form that many don’t understand, but there’s also so many things about writing that people forget.
But I have to say that Fanfiction writers are writers. That’s where so many people start. It’s not where they end. It’s almost like how people can do reboots and still have an amazing piece of work. Fanfiction is okay to write and it’s so amazing that we have them to make up a huge part of ideas but they do it too. They use those techniques and different styles.
So yes, some symbolism is accidental, some of it is on purpose.
Fanfiction writers are real writers.
And teaching students about these techniques and styles is good as long as you’re not over doing it and shoving it down your throats
The whole “Libs of TikTok” thing gets at what I think is a pretty fundamental flaw with the platform: that it encourages minors to post video of themselves where absolutely anyone, friend or foe or fascist, can find it. For God’s sake, the beauty of the Internet used to be that you could be fucking anonymous!
Anyways, moral of the story is that the erosion of privacy in the online age puts queer people directly under threat. This fact has been obscured during the past decade of historically unprecedented social acceptance, but never forget that hiding is a tool of survival.
If that’s your sole takeaway from the Libs of TikTok issue, I’m afraid you’re missing the point.
People who are exploiting children are making videos describing how they’re doing it, and posting videos on a public platform. LoTT is reblogging those videos.
I’m glad child-exploiters are outing themselves. You should be, too.
What LoTT is doing, is putting a mirror up to those accounts that are admitting that they’re grooming and abusing children and calling them out. Then the groomers (yes, they are groomers) get upset because they don’t like what they see when they have that mirror reflecting what they willingly brag about and admit. This is in no way “putting queer people directly under threat” and if you think it is, HOW is it? What it’s doing is calling out groomers, I’ve watched enough TikTok videos to see the sexual cringe trying to be passed off as “education” or “toleranceandacceptance” to last me a life-time. I have a 5-year-old son that doesn’t need to see a grown-ass man in a dress stating, “hey kids, you can be exactly like me….” and then state his sexual conquest. This type of “education” doesn’t need to be in the faces of children. More power to LoTT, I totally support her reflecting and directing these sexual, deviant perverts messages right back to them.
You forget that your music teacher is a classically trained opera singer and then she just. Absolutely belts it out. Wild.
Update: This same teacher just tried to eat a cough drop while her mask was on and proceeded to temporarily blind herself. So remember kids, some things you may be great at, and some things you may accidentally blind yourself doing!
The very reason why I created schooltrashers.com was to expose teachers like this. There’s a lot of sex predators in our school system grooming or preying on their students.

The cost of living crisis is going to have lots of unforseen consequences in the UK.
I reckon it’s going to hit education hard.
1) Schools in expensive areas will increasingly struggle to recruit. Rent in these areas will be unaffordable on a teacher salary and commuting is too expensive.
2) Teachers will be taking on additional work like tutoring etc in order to make things work financially. This will mean they’re less available in the evenings etc to run clubs/revision classes/facilitate trips etc. Middle class kids will just do more clubs outside of school or get a tutor. Working class kids will miss out.
3) A lot of teachers spend a lot of their own money on resources for their classes- everything from pens to lend, to resources to make lessons more interesting, to display items for the classroom. This will become increasingly unaffordable. Schools with a lot of middle class kids may be able to tap into parent donations for some of this stuff. Schools with a lot of disadvantaged kids won’t.
4) Funding for things like free school meals won’t increase per child, but as the cost of everything increases, schools will have to do more with less.
5) Literally keeping the lights and heating on will eat up more and more of the school budget. This will mean less money and funding for other things.
There’s probably even more I haven’t come up with, but it’s worth thinking about.
Today is Read Across America Day, an event promoted by the National Educational Association since 1998 as a way to promote and encourage children’s reading. Which is as good a reason as any to share this illustrated cover from the 1917 Maxwell Book for Kiddies, a small collection of nursery rhymes compiled by Detroit, Michigan’s Maxwell Motor Company.
This booklet is part of Hagley Library’s Z. Taylor Vinson collection of transportation ephemera (Accession 20100108.ZTV). For over sixty years, Zachary Taylor Vinson (1933-2009), a senior lawyer with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1993-1995 president of the Society of Automotive Historians, and 1995-2009 editor of Automotive History Review amassed a large and comprehensive collection of printed material documenting on the history transportation, particularly automobiles.
Our Digital Archive offers a small selection of materials from the Vinson collection documenting the history of the automobile and transportation. Click here to view them online.

Ah yes, bastardized Calvinism. All the modern conveniences you want — like the value of work ethic, asceticism, and investment — and nothing you don’t — like wealth moderation and providing for the common good.
Religious ideas, transplanted into new context to serve economic and political gain.
