I am so happy to share these images from a collaboration with Gloomth! Gloomth is an indie gothic and lolita brand from Toronto, Canada. As I mentioned in my post on Instagram, “Gloomth” was one of the brands that I was introduced to when I started dressing in Lolita, so I was very excited to work with them!
This dress is from the Memento Mori series and it is named “Victoria”. I paired it with one of my beaded mourning capes to compliment this homage to mourning wear.

I am a huge sucker for detail and intricate patterns. There is something about these pieces that made me fall in love with collecting these items in the first place.

Hair work is usually associated with mourning and memorials, but it’s important to know that not all hair work was for mourning. The vast majority of hair wreaths like this are family keepsakes, the flowers made from the hair of multiple family members. Many memorials include hair, but not all hair works are memorials.
Most of the time, when you are looking at a mourning piece, it’s VERY unambiguous. Look for photos, banners or letters spelling out mottos like “Our Darling” or “ We Mourn Our Loss,” funeral arrangements, casket plates and ornaments, and other funerary imagery.
