It Only Takes a Taste (From Waitress) - Katharine McPhee & David Hunter
- An improvised musical on Broadway (my friends are working on making this happen, IDK if FLS counts because I never got to see it and I don’t know if they do a full narrative)
- Spamalot revival with Bonnie Milligan as Lady of the Lake
- Legally Blonde revival with Stephanie Styles and Dan DeLuca
- Jacob Kemp as a lead in literally anything except the things he’s too white for (I’d even see his Evan Hansen although he’s 33 and a half)
- Waitress revived AGAIN. Jenna Ushkowitz back as Dawn (after she has her baby). Kevin McHale as Ogie. Amber Riley as Becky. Ben Fankhauser as Pomatter. Ally Bonino as Jenna.
- Fun Home revival but the small Alisons are the medium Alisons this time
- Hairspray 2: Tracy’s In Her Mid Thirties And Can’t Dance Anymore Because She Fucked Up Her Achilles But Still Fights Racism
- Brandon Uranowitz as Seymour in Little Shop
- A “10 Things I Hate About You” with SJB as the guidance counselor
Barmaids who love hard lick-her, strong shots and salty rims.
Waitresses who love serving up specials.
Asian girls were maid to serve.
I saw Waitress 3 times when it was originally on Broadway. So when I heard it was coming back for a limited run, I knew I had to see it at some point. This is the first Broadway show I’ve sat in the front row for, and it was awesome seeing the show unobstructed by other people’s heads. I’ve seen several casts, and this one was probably my favorite. It was nice to see Joshua Henry return to Broadway in this. And Ciara Renée is just incredible. Watching someone from my hometown being so successful in her own career really inspired me. I laughed, I cried, I ate some pie. The diner’s closing on January 9th. If you can, I’d highly recommend going to see this incredible cast.

Setting up for my party tonight. She’s in charge of buying for the part, setting up, hosting, serving, clean up. I’m in charge of making sure she gets beaten if she doesn’t do those things right.

Employment based on beauty and serving men is the healthiest occupation for young women. They relish being ogled and being useful. Their self-esteem and ego grow without becoming cancerous, and the growth centers on life skills that will be most useful to them during a career as eye candy and housewives. One important tip: don’t use your income to attend college or graduate school. This undoes all that positive growth. It also insults the girls you work with who aren’t as bright or ambitious. Instead of trying to tear those girls down, be supportive by sharing a happy and docile workplace!!

I haven’t posted much recently, but that’s not because I haven’t been drawing! There’s a lot of stuff in the works. This one is for a wonderful article by Jose Nateras at F Newsmagazine about the year he spent listening to the Waitress soundtrack. It’s 100% digital which is new territory for me. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

- every year, the bluebonnets appear, almost overnight. every year, thousands of people flock to them. it bothers you that no one really questions why.
- “how can I help y’all?” the waitress asks, looking over your shoulder. you are the only one in the diner.
- you’ve been driving towards el paso for hours, but you swear the scenery hasn’t changed. out on the horizon, the turbines have stopped spinning.
- y’all come back now, y’ hear? the sign on the highway says, its once-bright paint faded and peeling. this is not a farewell. it’s a warning.
- no one really swims in the lakes. ask anyone why, and they’ll mutter something about the cleanliness or the fish. they won’t meet your eyes.
- you haven’t seen a cicada in years, but their rattling hiss haunts your every step on hot summer days. at least, you hope it’s just the cicadas.
- there are no basements in north texas, despite the tornadoes. folks would rather face the wrath of the skies than what lies beneath the clay.
