So, like a year ago, I had this dream of this Ninjago AU. I don’t necessarily have a name for it, but I do remember many aspects of it. I finally decided to somewhat bring it to life.
Let’s start with the most prominent character in the dream.
Cole
Master of Water
- Cocky
- He has dark skin, similar in color to Shade (which was the main reason I chose not to color because black and grays are not my friend)
- He’s half serpent. He’s not human in the slightest. His other half is unknown. The only person who knows he’s part serpent is Lloyd. He doesn’t have a tale, but he does have fangs.
- The area of skin on his upper arm serves as a kind of armor
- Might be part Oni, who knows
Kai
Master of Earth
Kai was the only ninja in my dream to have a confirmed element, it being Earth. I had to deflate his hair, kinda as a testament to his personality.
- His entire personality was pretty much the exact opposite of his show counterpart.
- In this AU, serpentine are looked down upon and because of his tail and scaly skin, he’s self-conscious, even around his friends.
- He doesn’t not know his own strength
- Clumsy
Jay
Master of Fire
(I know that’s not the letter “J” in ninjargon, but I’m too lazy to fix it)
- Nindroid
- His predominant expression is :]
- He likes to use his element to fly
- He has a very poor sense of humor
- Still just as emotional as his show counterpart
Zane
Master of Wind
- He’s a human. The only full human on the team
- He’s is one flamboyant motherfucker
- Green hair streak
- P i n s
- He loves using his elemental abilities to cheer up the others. Especially Kai and Lloyd
- His design is based off an OC that I made as a joke
Lloyd
Just a kid lol
- Is still half human, part dragon, and part oni. He actually shows it (horns)
- Tends to hide his horns under his hood
- Has powers that aren’t exactly “elemental” but doesn’t know it yet
- Good kid
- Wants to be useful
Nya
Team mom
- Kai’s half sister
- 2 years older than Kai
- Basically raised Kai after their (human) parent abandoned them
- She’s not “tough” but she can defend herself
- Not an elemental master
Some other headcanons I had for this AU:
- The Great Devourer fucked up Ninjago before it was defeated, giving serpentine a bad rep
- Zane and Cole take turns being leader
- Garmadon and Wu have switched roles
- Jay has a thing for Nya (it’s a destiny thing)
- Cole is a fatherly figure to Lloyd because they’re both from a background known for destruction
- Zane and Kai are best friends
- Nya and Kai’s (human) parent abandoned them because of the whole serpentine thing
Bonus Doodles
Also some things I scrapped/changed from the original dream:
- Kai was some kind of water mutant thing that I changed to a serpent
- Cole was a fucking prick
- Kai had a terrible stutter
- Cole had this ability to read his opponents every move before they struck
if I had a nickel for every time i’ve watched an anime in which a powerful pink haired girl thinks shes engaged to an awkward male protag named Yuki, i’d have two nickels
