I’ve been sick today, so I spent most of it in bed. I did manage this little sketch tonight though and got out for a much-needed walk in the quiet woods. I counted the fallen trees after the recent storms, saw a dead sparrow hawk and only encountered one other soul in the distance

Here’s my latest miniature world, this time built inside in a vintage clock case. A man and a woman stumble upon some tiny little people, who are coming out of a hole in the ground and are gathering the fruits from the surrounding bushes. They then go down the ladder to an underground cavern and feed the fruits inside a machine which turns them into juice, filling up a glass tank. Some of the little people are filling their cups and are tasting the juice.

Along with Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie is also compelled to repent for his sins by protecting Tang Sanzang’s pilgrimage. Although the pig-man is soft-hearted, loyal, & a capable warrior, those qualities are often undermined by his foolish lust & gluttony.

Lion Dances are performed during New Year celebrations to ward off bad spirits & welcome good fortune. There are several styles of performance & presentation. For example, the Northern Lions perform in pairs & are curiously similar to Pekingese dogs.

Another dramatized character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms is Lu Bu. He was an incredible warrior with the fatal flaws of arrogance & a bad temper. I recommend avoiding him in Dynasty Warriors & people like him in real life.

To repent for his arrogance, Sun Wukong offers the Buddha to guard the monk Tang Sanzang’s pilgrimage. Expecting some troublemaking, the Buddha gifts the monk an irremovable circlet; with a special sutra, it can tighten around Sun Wukong’s head!
