Witches from lore for women’s month.
The witch of Endor
The witch of Endor is a necromancer from the Bible. She was contacted by Saul to bring back the spirit of a prophet.
Why she is important: for one she is a women of the Bible. A woman who not only has magical abilities that rival the prophets but is not the wife of anyone.
Medea
Medea is a Witch in Greek lore and priestess of Hekate. She is featured in Jason and the argonauts.
Why she’s important: She is a witch who is a priestess of Hekate. And it’s some times hard to find priestesses of Hekate.
Circe
Circe is featured in the Odyssey. She is another Greek witch related to Hekate in one way or another.
Why she’s important: she is a master herbalist. And a strong women who got things done.
Cerridwen
Cerridwen is a welsh Enchantress. She is a witch many regard as a Goddess.
Why she’s important: she is a powerful witch and potion maker. She is a figure many look up to and pray to.
Osmotar
This is the finish witch who invented beer. It’s a story with out any men and it involves a women creating something.
Why she’s import: she’s in a story with few men. And she’s like a Disney princess like figure who invented beer.
Baba yaga
Baba yaga is a Slavic witch who features in the story of vasilisa and her magic doll. Baba yaga is famous for being a witch who nobody messes with
Why she’s important: who doesn’t want to live in a house in the middle of the woods scaring off people with your tales.
My list is done, but feel free to add to it
Don’t bite me if I got anything wrong. My main goal is to feature these women so they are not forgotten.
Freya
Freya is a witch and goddess of the Norse pantheon. She is the goddess of love, fertility, and magic. But also is the goddess of war, death, and gold.
Why she’s important: She is the first considered first witch in North Mythology, and is seen as a powerful, and important goddess.
