Carol

I literally dont know why I haven’t reviewed this movie yet. Uhhhhh it was pretty good. obviously the age gap is slightly weird but tbh it didn’t FEEL weird. Its not like the main girl was 17 like another movie I think we all know. Otherwise it was very beautiful how they say so much without saying anything and all that. I would be lying if I said I also wouldnt drop everything for cate blanchett. 8.5/10

Imagine me and you

Imagine your basic Hugh grant british rom com but with lesbians. Idk why but watching this was actually kinda cool?? Like it felt like every other rom com, with the cliche airport ending(although not actually an airport in this) and the cheesy everything, but there were two girls as the main couple. This is what happiest season TRIED to be, or at least what everyone thought it would be. It’s just two ladies falling in love and it’s treated pretty much like a straight couple. (Ok so there is a bit of homophobia and the premise is kind of iffy, like one of them is already married??) It’s not REALLY a coming out story or at least that’s not the point of it. Not really my kind of movie though. 7/10 Piper perabo gives it an extra half point

Water lillies

this was a decent movie, definitely not the most exciting thing ever tho. It did also get a little bit weird with how much the main character (who is supposed to be like 13) had very few clothes on? It is French tho idk if that means something. Also stars Adele Haenel from portrait of a lady on fire which was a nice surprise. personally wouldn’t recommend 5.5/10 edit: JUST found out it’s written and directed by the same lady who did portrait of a lady on fire???? I can kind of see that but POALOF is a lot better

The favourite

I did not expect this movie to be a comedy? It’s loosely based on a queen from some point in history but I think it’s pretty lose. The comedy is slightly strange but it works well and I laughed a bit. Emma stone and Rachel Weisz are both competing to be the favourite of Olivia Colman who is the queen. Some people say the soundtrack is weird but tbh I don’t remember it. Definitely not for everyone and I wasn’t interested the whole time. It was decent 7/10.

Black swan

UM WHY HAVE I NOT WATCHED THIS UNTIL NOW???? I literally just finished it and OMG? There’s not tons of gay in it I’ll admit, but I classify an lgbt movie as having a main character that is gay. And technically you could say that the main character Nina (natalie Portman) is bisexual. So I’m gonna review it anyway. WHATTTTT WAS THIS MOVIE!!! bro I was hooked from the start and as it went on it literally got so much more interesting and I had so many questions but they were all answered (kind of??) So basically Natalie Portman is a ballerina and so is Mila kunis and the movie is about their ballet company preparing for a new performance of swan lake except it’s different bc the choreographer wants the black swan and the white swan to be played by the same person? I think that’s it anyways. There’s a bit of background going on as well with a former balerina and Natalie’s mum is a whole other thing. And obviously there’s a lot more going in the story (particularly with Nina) than just ballet dancing. The acting is amazing and the movie progresses so smoothly. There’s metaphors and stuff that even my dumbass understood and the way it ends is perfect. Lmao sorry for the ramble but I literally can’t get over this movie. Plz watch 10/10 I know I said the handmaiden was my favourite movie but idk man I think this might be it

Elisa & Marcela

This movie is almost ALL in black and white so if I’m honest that’s already points off lmao. Its based on a true story and it’s cute and all but I had to take breaks while watching cause it was kind of boring. Maybe I was just tired. Apart from that it’s beautifully shot and the acting is very believable. 6.5/10

My days of mercy

Lucy (Eliot page) is anti death penalty and Mercy (Kate mara) is pro death penalty. Weird premise for a love story right? but somehow it WORKS?? I watched this movie the day it was put on Netflix and afterwards I was literally so amazed at how much I enjoyed it? if I’m remember it correctly the ending is ambiguous but hopeful. Graphic sex and obviously it’s a pretty serious movie so don’t watch if you want a Rom com lmao. 9/10

The feels

Ummm this was boring as shit?? lmao. I wanted to like it but I just couldn’t. There just isn’t anything interesting about it, it’s watchable but don’t expect to have a good time. I just care so little for this movie. Its like watching a boiled egg. idk 3.5/10 cause it was better than my own private idaho.

Crush

dont usually love americany teen drama movies but this was so unapologetically gay!!!! you guys! everyone is already out and there is literally no homophobia. just gay girls loving gay girls. also its really cute how they portray the crush element it literally reminded me of my own pathetic crushes <3. every adult is a little bit too annoying? like there are a couple scenes with the head teacher and pe teacher that were just way too long BUT apart from that i barely cringed! the 2nd act conflict bit was a bit frustrating cause they literally couldve just listened to eachother and i thought they were both being a weeeee bit dramatic but whatever. also everyone is so pretty? 7/10 definitely watch for some fun gay content

Every lgbtq+ movie I have watched ranked!

Since I haven’t watched a new movie in like 2 months I am going to rank ALL of the lgbt movies I have ever watched for content :) This can also be used as a reference if you ever want to recommend something and don’t know if I’ve reviewed it already

Each film will be ranked based on how much I personally enjoyed it as opposed to how technically good it is as a film

Also the order may be different from what scores I’ve given before (eg something I gave an 8 might be below something I gave a 7) cause my opinion might have changed or my scoring at the time was a weee bit biased

I’ll probably pin this and add to it whenever I make a new review

I will also be including the tv shows I have reviewed just cause

  1. Black Swan - MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE FILM!!! I am unsure of the general consensus on whether this is an lgbt movie but I count it because the main characters is canonically bisexual basically
  2. The Handmaiden - just found out there’s two versions of this! the extended cut is the one I prefer and also the one I was talking ab in my review. it’s only 20 minutes longer but the order of the film is different and better imo. the one on Netflix is the theatrical cut but the one on fsharetv is the extended cut and free!
  3. Moonlight - *through tears* BEAUTIFUL
  4. Brokeback Mountain - there’s a reason this film is as influential as it is

  11. Young Royals - Boarding school upper echelon gays and scholarship(?) commoner boy gays
  12. Holding the Man - be prepared to cry like a fucking baby

  14. Breakfast on Pluto - I love you Cillian Murphy❤

  16. Your Name Engraved Herein - if I hear one more person say this is 'Asian Call Me By Your Name’ I will burst into flames (in a bad way)
  17. Pride - this movie will give you so much pride, the title is accurate
  18. Paris is Burning - Best documentary ever made

N/AThe Living End - Didn’t actually finish this so I won’t rank but just know that I probably wont be finishing it

Dating amber

This is definitely one of those movies where if it was straight I would give no fucks BUT it’s gay so I gave all the fucks. Set in 1995(?) in Ireland, Eddie (the redhead guy from handsome devil!!) is gay and so is amber. They pretend to date to get people off their backs and then shenanigans ensue. I’ll be honest the plots not anything new buuuuuuuuut I don’t care cause it’s sweet and AMBER AND HER GIRLFRIEND ARE THE CUTEST COUPLE!!!! Spoilers ahead a bit just a warning. WHY DID HE KISS HIS TEACHER?!?!?! PLZ I JUMPED BACK IN MY SEAT I HAD TO PAUSE THE MOVIE. The second hand embarrassment was very real from that scene. Fionn O’Shea does a great job of giving me second hand embarrassment cause I had to skip that bit in handsome devil where he sings in the school talent show✋. I know there had to be drama but I wanted so badly for them to be friends the whole time also no shade but why would you just give someone £2000 like come on. Thank you so much to the person that recommended this to me! I absolutely recommend the watch and it’s on amazon prime!8.5\10

The half of it

ok don’t hate me but I didn’t really like this it was cute and all but idk man, I was kinda bored. I don’t really watch movies like this for that reason ALTHOUGH I am very grateful that there was absolutley NO noah centinio cause they definitely could’ve tried to fit him into this movie somewhere. Overall a cute story and it is definitely better for being gay no debate. if you are a fan of high school romance movies absolutley go for it but from me a 6/10

Duck Butter

ok so let me just preface this by saying: I haven’t watched an lgbt movie in a while and OH MY GOD I didn’t realise how much I missed lesbain cinema ok so this movie is not liked by a lot of people it seems??? Idk it doesn’t have the best reviews and stuff but I loved it?? I went into this expecting to dislike this movie and it was actually really good lmao. so basically these two girls meet at a bar and decide to speedrun and entire relationship by spending 24 hours together without sleep (why no sleep? plz). That’s the WHOLE movie. Idk why but I was really invested and interested not just in the story but in the actual characters and their backgrounds and stuff. Also I’ve loved Alia Shawkat since arrested development. Content warning for a lot of sex lmao 9/10

Booksmart

I usually don’t love teen high school type movies but this one was Very Good. It’s about two friend that decide to say fuck it on their last day of school and go to a crazy party and do crazy shit bc they’ve spent their school lives being good girls for no reason. I’m calling it a teen high school type movie cause it kinda has a relation to high school but tbh it’s mainly about the relationship between these bffs and how it’s gonna have to change as they carry on with their lives and stuff. One of the friends is a lesbian but it’s like ‘life partners’ where it’s a pretty small part of their overall character and is not treated like a weird thing. I actually really liked the story even if it is a bit unrealistic but I don’t think it was meant to be realistic anyways. 8.5/10

Battle of the Sexes

Emma stone??? EMMA STONE AS A LESBIAN??????? This movie is technically about the real life story of Billie Jean king dismantling the patriarchy with her sick tennis skills but can also be seen as a cute lesbian love story. Either way this movie is pretty cool. Ngl I got bored everytime Steve Carell was on screen no hate I just wasn’t interested in his character at all. Apart from that this movie is worth the watch 8/10

Life partners

This movie was good I guess but it was made even BETTER by the fact that body Leighton meester AND Gillian Jacobs were in it (full disclosure they don’t play a couple). Basically it’s just about their very close friendship changing when Gillian Jacobs gets a long term boyfriend. Leighton meester (I don’t remember the character names) is a lesbian but it’s very much just a small part of her. It’s never played as ‘different’ and her personality is not based around it which was quite refreshing. Don’t expect to be blown away by the story but the acting is good and it’s a fun time 7/10

Rafiki

This movie was really sweet but also made me want to die. It literally is SO SAD at parts I was fucking angry crying. We see two girls Kena and Ziki, fall in love despite their dad’s being rivals in politics, but it’s not very Romeo and Juliet, the movie focuses mainly on how hard it is to be gay in Kenya. Despite being quite sad at times the movie does have some upbeat scenes that made me smile. The endings slightly too ambiguous but the optimistic side of ambiguous so I like to think the overall tone of the movie is happy. Warning for serious blood boiling homophobia and people getting beat up. I mainly liked this movie although some of the editing choices confused me. Probably don’t watch if you want a rom com lol 7/10
