with womens rights in regards to reproductive health now in the spotlight, its more than fitting to talk about the fuckery in regards to MY reproductive health.
today i was finally, after years of suspecting it, diagnosed with PCOS. i knew something was amiss since 2016 when my periods became abnormal and heavy, to the point i was soaking up super plus tampons in an hour. the cramps were so bad it went to my groin. i did research on what it could possibly be, and when my symptoms matched with pcos, it made sense, especially since i was predisposed.
over the corse of the next couple of years i went to two gynecologists in the same practice complaining of my issues. the first one didnt ask me questions and just said here take birth control. the second gynecologist WHO I AM ATONISHED knowing i was predisposed told me the only way to solve this was to put a baby in me. which still trying to figure out MY CAREER and find a relationship is impossible to do at this point in my life. he then said well the next step is birth control.
while nexaplanon did relieve my symptoms, making painless and light periods, saturday i started bleeding and cramping EVEN WORSE than before nexaplanon. i had to leave work early due to the pain, the bleeding and the migrane thanks to my anemia made it hard to focus. finally after going to the right gyno i got properly diagnoised with PCOS.
while i am relieved that i will finally get the right treatment i needed all along, i am also furious. i am furious i went through over five years of unnecessary suffering because the gyno refused to listen to me because “my biogical purpose is having babies”
my story highlights an issue BEYOND abortions. in general women’s health issues continue to be ignored when it should not be. we need to do better! we need to listen to women when something is amiss. my pcos should have been dealt with a long time ago and im pretty sure my story is the same as others. we need to do better.
