I never wrote fan fiction of my favorite characters falling for me. My first fan fiction was an absolutely brutal story about the daughter of voldemort being totured and buried alive by him and then digging herself out ten years later and attending hogwarts with the golden trio.
I wrote a heartbreaking retelling of lord of the rings with an original character who was an immortal kind child who was created by the ocean god and dies slowly when she travels to mordor to help destroy the ring. She left the ocean to far behind and her last words are telling aragorn that “the beauties of this world are as numerous as the stars, and I saw so many of them” before she crumbles into dust.
I’ve never written smut or lemons, I wrote absolutely heartbreaking love stories. One was about a girl who was so kind and gentle that angor rot from tales of arcadia found a way to love her even without a soul. She was afraid of being touched and all he wanted was to hold her close.
I heard somebody say that fan fiction isnt real. Its a weak copy, but when I was depressed and homeless I started a fan fiction crossover of danny phantom and my hero academia. Just the first half was over a hundred chapters, Over 100,000 words. I stopped after a while, when I finished high school. But its still there. Sometimes people still find it, and they comment something nice that makes me smile and get me through a work day.
Im working on an original work right now, long and complex and full of heroics. Heartbreak is on the horizon.

I keep saying I’m going to do this and I finally managed to save an early first draft of a WIP. I know a lot of people get anxiety about how yucky their first draft of a story is. My philosophy is even if it is ugly just get it out. Just get the ideas out, just get the basic outline out, just get it out. You can build and expand on it later, and somehow having a bare bones guide helps provide sparks for when you get back to it. But just get it out!
Anyway, to illustrate how bare bones and ugly a first draft can be I have some first draft paragraphs from my latest chapter of Neverending and the final draft to compare them with.
First draft
“Amelia, what are you doing leaving books like this in places students can find?” Lina asked.
“What book?” Amelia asked.
“Don’t play dumb!” Lina said as she held the book in front of her, “What if one of the kids had found it?”
“Not mine.” Amelia said, “That’s too hardcore for my taste.”
That stopped Lina in her tracks, “You serious?”
Final version
Amelia started talking about how excited she was to see him as Lina’s eyes fell on a book that has been left by the couch. And then she blushed as she saw the title, “Amelia! What are you doing leaving books like this in places students can find?” Lina shouted as she pointed at All the Hues of Black.
“What book?” Amelia asked.
“Don’t play dumb!” Lina said as she picked it up and then held it as far away from her as possible, “Do you know what sort of a reputation it has!? What if one of the kids had found it?”
“Not mine.” Amelia said as she shook her head, “That’s too hardcore for my taste.”
That stopped Lina in her tracks, “You’re serious?”
First version
Lina watched as Zelgadis laughed at something Gourry said and turned to Amelia, “Looks like the trip has been good for him.”
“That was everything we needed it to be.” Lina said with Amelia as Maninstit came into view.
“Yes, Zel is doing a lot better.”
“We’re okay, aren’t we?”
Final version
Lina watched as Zelgadis laughed in response to something that Gourry said, and then she turned to Amelia and commented, “Looks like this little weekend trip has helped Zel to loosen up.”
“Yes,” Amelia agreed, “He’s a lot more at ease now. I’m so glad you suggested this!”
“It was good to get away for the weekend.” Lina said as Maninstit came into view. While she had been annoyed that the others had invited themselves, fortunately when they actually got into town no one complained about everyone enjoying their separate pursuits. And while Lina had walked with Gourry most of the way home as they got within the bounds of Maninstit she’d found herself drawn to Amelia. “This new group of students is really getting under my skin and I needed the change of scenery. Though thinking of that pile of work waiting for me…”
She shuddered and sighed, “It was still worth it though.”
“And I think Duchess Orianna will be so busy cleaning up the mess she’s in with Ruvinagald that it will be awhile before she causes anymore trouble for us. So you should be at full capacity at least.”
“Don’t jinx this!” Lina shouted, and then she lowered her voice, “I won’t undervalue having a vindictive diplomat cowed though. I’ll say that you seem to have bounced back from this quickly.”
“I guess, being a royal I’m just sort of used to it. These things are hell to get through but it’s always good to put them and any hard feelings behind you as fast as possible.”
“So…we’re good then?” Lina asked.
So don’t worry if your first draft is ugly! Don’t worry if it’s bare bones! Just get it out and keep working it and eventually it will fill out and coalesce into something to display!
Realistic Stuttering: “Sorry, I uh… I didn’t mean- I didn’t mean to do that…”
When people stutter, they usually reword what they’re saying as they speak, and subconsciously insert “filler words” such as “uh, like, you know,” and etc.
*puts on speech therapist hat*
ACTUALLY! It depends on why they are stuttering.
A Nervous Stutter results in what is called Mazing, or rewording the sentence. That is the classic “I, um… well I… look it’s just that… so we…” that @hellishhues is talking about. When someone is mazing their words you’re seeing a form of Speech Apraxia where the brain is having trouble forming verbal speech. This can be brought on by brain damage, memory loss, anxiety, nerves, and several other things.
The root cause of a nervous stutter is a disconnect between the mouth and the brain.
With this you will also sometimes see the classic “S-s-s-sorry…” especially if the person has been training to speak clearly and is now at a point of fatigue or stress where they are not mentally capable of forming the words.
The other kind of stutter is a Physical Stutter, sometimes referred to as slurring, and another facet of Speech Apraxia. This stutter is caused when the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and throat are physically unable to form certain sounds. This is most often seen in the very young and victims of brain trauma.
Sounds are acquired at different ages, so a 2-year-old will probably not be able to clearly pronounce certain words (which is why toddler sound so off when they’re written with developed dialogue). These mis-pronunciations are sometimes referred to as lisping, but only if the sounds are run together. If the person starts and restarts the sound because they got it wrong, it can also sound like the classic sound stutter.
But it all depends on why the character is stuttering!
Do they have Speech Apraxia, Audio Processing Disorder, muscle dysfunction, or another medical reason to stutter? (1)
Are they stuttering because of anxiety, stress, or fatigue? (2)
Does the stutter stem from intoxication or blood loss? (3)
All of those will sound different!
1 - Will have mazing, repeated sound stutters, and be the classic stutter that annoys OP.
2 - This is where you’ll see the repetition stutter, mazing, rephrasing, and filler words.
3 - This is where you are more likely to see starts and stops and slurring of words.

Scars are the part and parcel to our life experiences. They are the marks left behind that we can point to and say: when that happened, I got this. Every character will have a few scars. However, whether they got those scars on the battlefield or from running into a piano when they were six is anyone’s guess. It’s important to remember that all scars can have meaning and they do not necessarily rate importance based on how traumatic the experience receiving the scar was. Scars are part of your character’s physical history and a memory inhabits each that only they may know.
Scars can be an important physical indicator of a character’s life experiences and whether your character is a casual martial artist or a soldier, it’s likely that they’ll have at least a few. The character who the scar belongs to is the only one that can tell other characters what it means, only they really know the full extent of its history and what it reminds them of. So, when you are writing about scars, it’s important to track what a character will say, what they won’t say, and what the scars they carry can give insight into who they are and where they’ve been.

Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981.
