I feel this in my soul

polarcell:

one of my creative fears is writing an interesting complex & believable villain guy and then watching in horror how he gets the poor little misunderstood meow meow treatment from the fandom

Sorry I’ve been so MIA! (There’s been some crazy awesome stuff going on.)

Sorry it’s been so long! There’s been a ton of awesome and amazing things going on in my life.

On the writing front, I’m now a regular writer for Medium — which has resulted in a *major* boost to my writing income. (*If you’re a writer who is not writing on Medium, I don’t know what you’re doing.*)

On the *other* professional front, we’ve finally released our drag event app — @dragr — and are over the moon with the reception it’s receiving in the community.

Hope you’re all doing well and getting down to all the writing. The world needs your story, so don’t give up

Thinking of hiring an editor…?

You’ve done it. You’ve come to the end of the road on your first draft or last round of revisions. Where do you go next?

“A professional editor!” many will scream.

But do you really need a professional editor to score that dream publishing contract?

How far would you go to save your skin?

Spending some time with my main #WIP tonight, a novel about the story of Anne Boleyn. Working on the particularly trying epic of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. He sacrificed his prized possessions in order to save his skin from King Henry VIII. Spoiler: it didn’t work.

How far would you go to save your skin? Would you give up your most prized possessions? Do any of your characters do anything crazy to try and save their own skin?

So, I think I’m to the point where about 3 or 4 more chapters, and I’ll officially be done with my first draft! This will be the first time in my LIFE I finished a first draft of something that wasn’t a fan fiction, so that’s exciting.
I find myself staring down the abyss, however. What do I do after that? I know I’ll have to go through and edit and re-write and stuff, and in a lot of ways the Patreon support is helping me do that. Because before I post the chapters there, I go through them again and clean them up a little (No major re-writes though I was trying to avoid that to keep myself from getting distracted from FINISHING it.)
So, then what? I guess I have to try and get an agent? Query letters? God, I’m so out of my depth. If anyone knows someone in the business who can give me some pointers, hit me up! I have no idea what I’m doing, and I am currently wallowing in this “So close but so far” kind of feeling. Thoughts, everyone?
