So, this scene always amuses me. Let me tell you things!
Barbossa eating slices of apples with a danty fork and his pinky all extended. His general attitude and body language. Iggy Azalea probably following behind in a row boat scaring away mermaids lest their heads explode (might explain why the they didn’t bother the ship until it was anchored).
I like that they made a point for us to see Barbossa fill his teacup with alcohol. We view this as humor or even shocking, “I don’t think he’s allowed to do that, how unprofessional”. However, beer/grog (heavily diluted) was standard for sailors, helped prevent scurvy and was easier to keep than fruit.
Fun fact aside, look how desperate he pours that shit, like “oh God,” as he sees Gillette making his way on over. Barbossa already knows the whole crew just standing there, waiting. “Quickly. Shove this apple in my mouth, before I gotta acknowledge this shit”.
“Aye. Mermaids. (Ya dumb fucks).”
He has a separate cup of precious fresh clean water. So extra.
Mostly though, Gillette. Poor Gillette. Survived Barbossa in Curse of the Black Pearl, only to serve him in Stranger Tides. His distaste. His irritation. Forced formalities and etiquette. Look at his face. He is so done.
“Sir.”
No context bathing Tegwared
Took a break from moping to depict Tegwared’s armour of feathers, which was damaged as they vanquished the greatest wyrm in the land, and then eaten from the inside out by sorcery.
Mothiric and Tegwared. “Oh you… you *kill* people for me, huh.”
Attempting to give myself something to draw by playing a solo journalling game. So here’s Tegwared, a fatherless knight whose beauty and manners alike cannot save their standing when they fall in love with their own queen’s fey hostage.
“She told herself she should let the magic—or whatever it was—work unmolested; but her curiosity got the better of her and at last she went back to where she’d left a big shallow basin of milk only the day before…and found the surface of the milk invisible under a carpet of her bees. “Bees don’t drink milk,” she said to them. When they lifted and flew away the basin was empty and clean.”

“I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m here and I’m listening; and there is still joy in this world.”

“The water was faintly gold against the silver cup; the small stones in the bottom shone like gems. She did not want gold and silver and gems; she wanted ordinary things, commonplace things. Trees and birdsong and sunlight, and unfractured earth.”
