MFA graduate student Christine Westrich spent the spring 2022 semester conducting an independent study in UWM Special Collections researching historical costume styles as a basis for creating her own contemporary fashion designs. Her diligent work in identifying and reviewing our resources resulted in dozens of original designs, which she blogged about on our Tumblr site every week. Her official study has now concluded, and she made her final post about her work last week.
Christine was a joy to work with, and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to help facilitate and guide her research. Now it is time for actual costumes to be made manifest from her designs, and Christine is beginning that process. Her first dress was made not only from her original design but also from patterned fabric of her design. It was completed, or is near completion under her fashion label, CHCH. The dress is shown here against all the patterns she completed this semester, along with details of the finishes. This CHCH dress bears a likeness to the Egyptian Necklace Dress she designed earlier this semester (also shown here). The main differences are sleeveless rather than fluttering sleeves, center slit rather than side slit, and waist & necktie rather than jewels. Her original fabric pattern is called “Gorgeous,” and its colorful grid pattern required making these modifications.
Christine also conducted a parallel independent study this semester with Senior Lecturer in Costume Design Kathleen Donnelly in the UWM Theatre Department. Also shown here is an embroidered design Christine produced for an apron used in the spring UWM production of Stephen Sondheim‘s musical Into the Woods.

Sometimes I need to make a random piece of art to turn off my anxiety and remind myself I can draw. So I finally decided to draw the twins, Tia and Mia in their costumes they wore for Halloween. In other words, what we were actually wore for Halloween this year ^^ So here they are. Tia is Alice from American Mcgee’s “Alice Madness Returns” and Mia is dressed as Eliza Hamilton from the musical “Hamilton”. Hope you all enjoy it!

“I do something in the line between fashion and costume,” explains Alexia Hentsch (@alexiahentsch). The costume designer splits her time between London and Rio de Janeiro, where she was born. For the past two years, she has created custom pieces for Rio’s Carnival celebrations. “I love Carnival. I think it’s difficult not to,” says Alexia. “It’s a celebration of joy, which doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world on such a large scale. The whole country has checked out to go to a party. It’s kind of nuts.”

Yeah, hate to break it to y’all’s, but this costume isn’t in the game, like, at all. I haven’t even found a mod with this costume…
But here are the Leon costumes that are in the game, and some of them, like the Noir and Sheriff costumes, are $2.99 each. Let’s start off with my fav because they changed his hair to something other than a asymmetrical bowlcut!

Then you have the costumes you unlock in the course of the game that are just subtle alterations to the main one and a ‘casual’ look…
The last costume is the amazing ‘98’ costume and both Leon and a Claire have a version of this, and yes I paid nearly 3 whole American dollars for this. IT WAS WORTH IT.
Other than that, you have the Wild Wild West of mods… Unfortunately nothing looks as good as that first bulletproof body armor Leon in the original post. I like it because it’s slightly more logical for him to still keep the body armor in the zombie apocalypse/outbreak instead of just a thong…
Then to pair up your thong’d/nearly naked Leon, you can add the Mr. X underwear mod, for those out there that think that a trench coat and fedora wearing Mr. X isn’t nearly terrifying enough…
I installed this mod and played it on stream once, and it was actually legitimately more terrifying than vanilla Mr. X…
