Practicing my way for drawing Damselfly and redesigning a character

In Tale of Bugs, damselflies are a threat to any bugs venturing in their territory. Unlike the dragonflies who managed to evolve for becoming more sociable with other bugs, the damselfies stayed wild and violent.

“Four winged dragon fly of slme sort near Wazuka! Beautiful and slow moving…”

Hello, thanks for the submission!
This appears to be a beautiful black damselfly, probably Calopteryx atrata! It also seems to be a lovely female. Males have a distinct blue-green sheen and a thinner abdomen.

These predatory insects eat flies, mosquitoes and gnats.
Thanks again for the submission and feel free to submit more insects any time. :)

I now know why they call these insects “hanging thieves.” After they catch their prey, these flies perch by one or two of their legs and using the rest to manipulate the meal. Their larvae live in the soil, feeding on grubs. No insect is safe with these predators around.

I have finally come across the Microsoft Ice software on the lab computer, enabling me to take close up pictures of larger organisms at high magnification and seamlessly stitch them together!

This is Calopteryx, a genus of broadwinged damselfly in the family Calopterygidae. Found in moderate, flowing current, usually on subaquatic vegetation, or on grasses the hang into the water. They blend in very well to thick clumps of vegetation, letting them sneak up on prey, and away from predators.

Genus:Calopteryx

Family: Calopterygidae

Suborder: Zygoptera

Order: Odonata

Collected in Trucka Brook, Adirondack Park.

Information in part from J Reese Voshell, 2002.

Day 23: Caddisfly

I don’t know much about these but they’re pretty cool looking!

Day 24: In The Pond

Oh man. I love water scorpions!!!! I found a few in a lake I visited and basically just followed them around most of the day! So cool!

Day 25: Damselfly

My family calls them “buddies” because when we swim they come land on you and hang out a while!
