Please, avoid using word “slavic”. Because it is synonymous with “brotherly”.
In Ukraine we don’t use “slavic” because “at first, russians tell everyone it’s "slavic” - and then tell it’s russian". This word has acted as an accomplice in russia’s many crimes against other cultures in their neighborhood.
We either clearly name a specific people, or we say “post-soviet”
If we are talking about the period before the emergence of russia, we are saying “the time of Kyivan Rus”. Russians even stole our name from us.
When I studied history at school, I could not fully believe what was written in our textbooks. It seemed like some kind of unrealistic propaganda to me. Because how can a whole nation kill, steal, rape, prohibit, starve, torture, appropriate the achievements of another nation just because. Just because they love doing it. For millennia. That doesn’t happen, does it? What have we done wrong to them? What have we done to them?
Why are they offended by the existence of our children, our parents? Our families? Our language? Our artists and our scientists, our farmers and our sportsmen?
You know, they say that EVERY Ukrainian has at least one relative who can be found on the lists of those repressed by soviet union. I think it’s true because I myself found around 50? 100?of mine. I don’t remember because the number was huge.
And now, while their “flowers of the nation” gives concerts, exhibitions, sucks out money with impunity, our flowers of the nation are dying under shelling. From hunger. In cellars and in the field. Fast and slowly. Just because russians love it. They fucking love it because that’s how they feel great.
But what I hate most about russians is their adoration for playing the victim. They start crying, complaining how bad everything is, whining that they are not like the rest, that “there are only russophobes around”. This phrase causes a red veil in me, which obscures my eyes so much that they turn into a sniper scope.
At the same time, they do absolutely nothing. They are pathetic in their desire to receive praise from all Ukrainians for a green ribbon. They are pathetic in their fear of reposting about the war. 99.9% of russians are pathetic, pathetic people.
The only russians I don’t hate are those who don’t do all of the above. Who help the deported Ukrainians to leave. Which set fire to factories and military registration and enlistment offices. Who fight on our side (yes, there are some). Who do something, and not whine endlessly.
A LOT of russians go abroad and find fleeing Ukrainian women with children even there.
You understand, we don’t feel ふcking safe anywhere. And I’m terribly sorry for those Ukrainians who left for Germany and Austria.

Russia claims that this is not a war of conquest, not a seizure of land and not a genocide, but a “special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine”, whatever that may mean in their sick heads. What baffles me is that they don’t even try to keep up the appearances!
On the occupied Ukrainian lands they hang out their flags, impose ruble currency instead of Ukrainian hryvnia, basically ban everything Ukrainian, kidnap and kill legally elected heads of settlements.
They also kidnap, torture and kill volunteers, former soldiers and people who are simply objectionable to them.
Russia is no longer pretending, the masks have been dropped. It is a barbaric, terrorist, fascist, Nazy state and should be treated as such. Should’ve been a long, long time ago.

At the end of February russian troops occupied the village of Katiuzhanka in the Kyiv region. As 13-year-old Dasha and her father and stepmother were driving through the streets, they came under fire from several directions.

Dasha was severely wounded and pretended to be dead so that the russian soldiers would not kill her. The russians approached, kicked her to see if she was alive, and moved on.

It takes seconds to claim a genocide is being committed, but it can take decades to prove it in a legal forum. Whether or not the war in Ukraine is indeed a genocide will be argued over for many years to come, first by legal scholars and then by historians. They will mobilize the particular logics of their fields to try to answer this terrible question, and still they may not agree.
“The law frequently cannot take for granted what in history would count as common knowledge,” the historian Richard J. Evans writes. “In convicting a killer, the law does not need to prove that he committed a thousand murders if it can prove he committed a hundred. Thus the carefully defined and circumscribed purposes of a trial often fail to satisfy the wider remit of history.” Law can work only with evidence that has been preserved. It cannot levy judgments based on what has been erased. And we may never know just how much has been lost, how many incriminating files have been deleted from confiscated cellphones, how many stories have now been silenced.
Genocide is a crime of negation. It is not merely the mass murder of a people; it is also the systematic erasure of their history and culture, the bombing of archives, the burning of artworks. Genocide does everything it can to deprive its victims of justice. It swallows up testimony the moment it is uttered and tries to mobilize it for the purposes of denial. This is what Russian forces have done all over Ukraine.
