The name Mikasa has several significant links in Japanese culture:
It means “three bamboo hats”, which was a unique pre-dreadnought battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and served as a flagship during the Russo-Japanese War. Hajime Isayama, supposedly named Mikasa after this vessel due to his belief that series’ with female characters named after famous warships come to be successful.
I have always loved Mikasa since the first time I saw her in the anime. She’s beautiful and strong, she showed us that women can be strong too, or perhaps even stronger. She’s everything I aspired to be and I love her very much.
