I’ve been having an amazing time in Jerusalem painting with artists from around the world at the FIRST EVER JEWISH STREET ART FESTIVAL!! It’s been an honor to work with these fabulous folks. WHAT’S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IS FUCKING APPALLING Israelis forces are shamelessly attacking the Palestinians who are trying to escort Shireen abu akleh (Palestinian journalist who was assassinated 2 days ago by special Israeli unit ) to her final destination, they attacked the car carrying her body multiple times , and even tried to abduct her corpse and beat up her family and everyone who was present trying to protect her , they’re snatching away crosses (she’s Christian) and Palestinian flags and even stripped her coffin from the Palestinian flag .
Right now her family &friends are being cornered by the forces , they couldn’t even pay her farewell properly one last time because of this neo nazi regime. Fucking disgusting

There was only nothing after death, and nothing else but nothing, and for everyone the universe would all be gone the moment they exhaled their final breath, just as though they and it were never there. He didn’t really sometimes feel the warmth and presence of his parents still around him, he just kidded himself now and then that this was what he felt. Tom and Doreen were gone, dad from a heart attack and mum from cancer of the bowel that must have hurt so much. He wasn’t ever going to see them anymore.

He tried to raise a flutter of resistance to the irrefutable awareness that pressed down upon him, tried to summon all the arguments that he was sure that he’d once had against this hopeless blackness. Love. His love for Cathy and the kids. That had been one of his protective mantras, he was certain, except love just made things crueller, gave you so much more to lose. One partner dies first and the other spends their final years alone and crushed. You love your kids and watch them grow to something wonderful and then you have to leave them and not meet with them again. And all so short, seventy years or so, with him near fifty now. That’s twenty years, assuming that you’re lucky, less than half of what had already slipped by, and Mick felt certain that these final decades would flash past with grim rapidity.
Everyone went away. Everything vanished. People, places, turned to painful shadows of their former selves and then were put to sleep, just like the Boroughs had been.”
Hannah Szenes (1921-1944) was a Jewish Hungarian resistance fighter who was parachuted behind German lines in World War 2.
The child of a Jewish family in Hungary, Szenes showed a talent for writing from a young age. She was accepted into a Protestant private school, however in spite of a ‘gifted student’ discount she still had to pay double the regular fees because she was Jewish. Combined with her awareness of the worsening situation for Jews in Hungary, this led her to join Maccabea, a Hungarian Zionist youth movement.
In 1939 Szenes traveled to the British Mandate of Palestine where she studied agriculture and wrote poetry and plays about Kibbutz life. In 1941 she joined the Jewish paramilitary force Haganah and in 1943 volunteered to join the British Special Operations Executive to train as a paratrooper. After training in Egypt she was selected to take part in an operation to infiltrate German-occupied Europe and establish links with beleaguered Jewish communities.
On March 14th 1944 Szenes was parachuted into Yugoslavia along with two men, Yoel Palgi and Peretz Goldstein. Their mission was to enter Hungary and help save Hungarian Jews from being deported to the Auschwitzconcentration camp. The team spent 3 months working with Yugoslavian partisans, during which they discovered that Hungary had been forcibly occupied by German forces in retaliation for attempting to surrender to the Allies. Faced with this new information Palgi and Goldstein decided to call off the mission. Szenes disagreed and pressed on to the Hungarian border alone, however not long after crossing she was arrested by Hungarian police.
Szenes was imprisoned and suffered a brutal interrogation by police who wanted to know the code for the radio transmitter she used to communicate with the partisans and the British. She was stripped, tied to a chair, and whipped and clubbed for 3 days. She lost several of her teeth. Yet she refused to surrender the code and so she was transferred to a Budapest prison where she continued to be tortured. Frustrated that she wouldn’t break, the guards brought in her mother, who she had not seen for 5 years, and threatened her life. Despite this Szenes still refused to give up the code and eventually her mother was released.
Szenes spent the next three months in prison but was not idle. She communicated with other prisoners using a mirror to flash signals and used large cut-out letters to spell out messages in Hebrew. She often sang to keep up the spirits of the other prisoners. However in late October she was tried for treason and on November 7th 1944 she was executed by a German firing squad.
Following the end of the war, Szenes became widely known when her diary, poetry and plays were published. She was recognised as a national heroine of Israel and in 1950 her remains were reburied in the military cemetery on Mt HerzlinJersualem.
One of the final entries in her diary contained a poem reading:
In the month of July I shall be twenty-three,
I played a number in a game,
The dice have rolled. I have lost.

When the days were completed for their purification
according to the law of Moses,
the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem
to present him to the Lord,
just as it is written in the law of the Lord,
Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,
and to offer the sacrifice of
a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,
in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.
This man was righteous and devout,
awaiting the consolation of Israel,
and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit
that he should not see death
before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
He came in the Spirit into the temple;
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus
to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
“Lord, now let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you prepared in the sight of every people,
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;
and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
“Behold, this child is destined
for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
(and you yourself a sword will pierce)
so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

The images that are coming from Jerusalem is a proof of the righteousness of the Palestinian cause. They are a proof of the resilience of the Palestinian people and especially the Jerusalemites that are struggling against the Israeli Zionist machine. This machine that is trying so hard and relentlessly, first, to erase the identity of the city by controlling and chocking the Palestinian in their daily lives and driving out of the [old] city and, second, to create a new form of identity that would coincide with their weak, unfounded claims.
What is very inspiring in these images is that they manifest a new way of resistance. It is a way that has been imposed by the circumstances. Praying in the streets. It has become a defiant way to resist the occupation and its arrogance.
What is interesting about this form of resistance is that it is integral in our way of life. As Muslims, we pray five times a day, wherever we can. Therefore, we do not grow tired from it. It is also a strong and clear message that the identity of the city will not be an easy target even when everybody turned their backs on the Jerusalemites.
Even if the form of resistance here is just praying in the streets, it has been faced with suppression and violence. It is an indication that the occupation is hugely affected by this form of resistance and that it is unable to deal with it. It was reported that three Palestinians have been executed and hundreds have been injured last Friday (21st of July 2017) by settlers and/or the occupation forces. In addition, injured worshippers have been attacked by dogs and kidnapped from hospitals. Yes, the only democracy in the Middle East.
It is important to say here that when we talk about the identity of Jerusalem, we are not talking about a religious identity, but we are talking about a city that has incorporated various religions that have lived together without trying to step on one another, except when we talk about foreign invaders.
