A big rant about Mo’s loneliness

He tian and Mo guan shan differences have been shown very clearly by now, not only on their social/monetary positions but also on their views of life,

One of the mains ones being how they face the future, Mo seems to try and completely ignore it. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in thinking or even having hope about it, because he has a very realistic/pessimistic view on life. He wants to live on and win money, that’s it, he wasn’t even willing to feed his hope of learning to play the guitar. And, most importantly for this post, he doesn’t seem to think at all about having a partner

The only time we’ve seen him talk about it he gave a vague answer, (“as long as they are cute”) I think he mostly sees his future as gaining money and that’s it.

But then, He tian happens

And he starts to build a hope for a future together, HT loves to talk about it, to build it, and to put some light into the concept of loneliness. He tian wants more from life, and he wants Mo to live it with him, to have their dreams and lives entwined.

Ht is lonely and I think that makes Mo realize that he is too. Lately we’ve seen him start to reflect on this a little more, starting with the fish. (Yeeah I’m bringing him back)

At this point Mo is at his lowest (except from the beating lol) and he identifies himself with the fish. “Alone” and dying, but we see that that’s not what he desires, I think this is an indication that he starts to want more as well, to not disappear/die alone. So he tries to save the fish.

And then he sees this.

He tian also takes care of the fish, without even questioning it. This makes their bond concrete, this brings Mo to accept HT care, and companionship. He tian is now the person who Mo trusts the most, and the person who he is now realizing keeps him from his loneliness.

And then in this chapter we see him staring at the lonely dancer, and ponder about the future and the idea of being alone.

And then in contrast, we see Ht coming back, taking care of him and once again, planning a future together. We see that that future is no longer what awaits him, because now he has HT, someone that (even without saying) he trusts and loves.

In short, I think Ox has been showing us the development of their relationship in a very subtle and amazing type of way, from not even wanting to think about the future, to recognizing his loneliness, to then choosing to escape that future and live being loved.

Tldr: I love mo guan shan, he didn’t actively know he was lonely and then he did and now he isint anymore, and he finally sees how Ht has changed that.

Recently I reread the last 40/50 chapters (can you believe that this whole arc started more than a year ago O.O) and it’s all so beautifully build. The conflict with SL, HT knowing that he has to leave and how he is behaving with that knowledge at heart, Mo and HT relationship development. It’s fucking HUGE the whole thing! OX is a genius! I highly recommend rereading it too. It brings so many things into perspective. Have to make a post about that in the future. But probably won’t.

they’ve been told all sorts of things about He Tian’s beloved “Momo” but apart from that, there’s no info – Momo is “sweet”, and “the best cook in the world”, the “cutest when asleep”, and owns a restaurant “none of you will ever step into if you like having fingers :)” and that’s it.

so, naturally, they’ve all got their theories on how Momo should be. some say she must be a petite girl with a soft smile. others that Momo must be the Antichrist. another group insists that Momo must be the reincarnation of Buddha to tolerate He Tian on a daily basis.

then, one day Mo Guan Shan stops by the office building where He Tian has established his base of operations while he’s in China, since his idiot boyfriend forgot his lunch at home.

and people are shookbecause, apparently, Momo is a 6.1 ft man with red hair (natural, he insists, because he doesn’t have time for that, and He Tian confirms this with a wolfish grin), who frowns so much he’s got wrinkles between his eyebrows, curses at least once in each sentence, and is indeed a chef in his own restaurant.

(He Tian is, of course, unbearably smug about it).

translator’s note

regarding “much thanks to you and your entire fucking family”:
yes, it is meant to be sarcastic, mo is not actually thanking hetian’s family.

i asked my friends from China why “thank” his family when they weren’t involved; they said it’s because when people from china diss a person, they would like to diss that person’s parents & family as well.
an example of such is “我他妈 wǒ tā mā” in chinese which is literally “i- his mom”, which we usually translate to “wtf” or “the fuck”, but if it were to be a more accurate translation it’s “motherfking”

as for “我他妈… 感谢你全家” in the cn original panel, the literal translation is “i motherfking… thank your whole family”.
removing the curse word, it’ll be “i thank your whole family”. im not sure if this applies to english, but in chinese, it’s very insincere because no one puts the “i” in front when they thank someone, its always “谢谢(thank) 你(you) xìe xìe nǐ ” not “我(i) 谢谢你(thank you) wǒ xìe xìe nǐ”.
based on what i studied in school, not putting “i” its to emphasize on the “you”, cause you’re thanking that person, the emphasis is on them, so its not about you, therefore, adding “i” makes it very insincere.

for this context, in my opinion, i think he used “i thank your whole family” is because
1. he’s outside in public, so he cant exactly vent his embarrassment and start cursing hetian, so he took a more indirect approach to show his feelings
2. also i think it’s because he acknowledges the gesture of love from hetian, so he still says thank you, but at the same time he thinks this gesture is too much and too extra so he’s unhappy about it, thats why the sarcasm

“thank your whole family” is not wrong, but those who translated it this way didn’t bring in the real life/ cultural context (like why do chinese people use this phrase and how do they use it)

regarding “i want everyone to witness our love”:
i agree that “we cant lose” is the more accurate translation,
but because the cn used this phrase called 体面(tǐ miàn) which doesnt have an eng equivalent phrase for it,
the meaning of it is similar to “face”, like how people would say that they would “lose face”, the only term that i could think of that is close to what cn phrase is “superficial” or “on the surface”, but superficial has a bad connotation to it, but the cn’s one is a positive word

“we can’t lose on the surface” is the most accurate translation, but it doesn’t sound nice, so we decided to just forget about the accuracy and go for the vibe instead.
we came up with other translations like “we have to beat everyone here at PDA-ing (public display of affection -ing)” ​and “ if we’re competing for who PDAs the most, first place is definitely ours”. because opposite of lose is win and stuff lol
we focused more on making it sweeter and more romantic instead of being 100% accurate, but if anyone has any questions regarding translation stuff can PM me :) im happy to answer

and someone mentioned that they saw a translation that is “we cant miss the show”, which is wrong, if they want to phrase it like this, it should be “everyone mustnt miss our show”, cause the “show” here is reffering to hetian’s gesture of love, and they aren’t missing out on their own “show”, more like people should be looking at their “show”

btw, if you search google for the translation of , they would give you “decent”, and “decency” is a indeed a good translation for it when used it other contexts, like “we have to look decent”. in this context, but “we can’t lose when it comes to decency” doesn’t make a lot of sense  体面(tǐ miàn)

There can be so much things you can say without saying them just from the context and the connotation. Mind me asking another question @linzi-yay?!

Mo is saying he’s gonna beat HT up when they get back or get home ect. (I just picked the first translation I just found but they all translate it in some way like that) if you say something like that in English usually you mean “when we get back (to our home)” as in the place we both live at or at least stay at at the moment for a in some way prolonged time. If you just stay for the evening you would probably say “when we get back to your house/my room/the hotel ect.” Do I just interpret to much here? What did Momo mean to say in the original? Btw since you offered don’t be surprised when I’ll bombard you with these kind of questions in the future! Just to warn you ❤️

to be honest, i’m not sure where they’re going back to, it’s quite ambiguous

if it helps, the original was “我(i) 回(return) 去(go) 要(want) 揍(beat) 死(die) 你(you) wǒ huí qù yào zòu sǐ nǐ” 
“回去” when used as a phrase, means “return or go back where you came from” it doesn’t specify where

in my opinion, this is purely guessing, not supported by any evidence etc, i think if oldxian wanted to specify that they were going home, ox would use “回(return) 家(home) huí jiā”, because both of them are 2 words, and both are frequently used phrases

i think another thing to point out is this panel here:

i think if they were living together, hetian won’t need to specially ask mo out? this phrase kinda implies that “where they came from” were two different places, and they met up here cause hetian asked mo to

but personal opinion again- i feel like they might be going to hetian’s house, since oldxian has a number of chapters where they are hanging out at hetian’s house, and since this probably happens in the future, mo might already treat hetian’s house as his own

but this doesn’t eliminate the possibility that they were staying at a hotel or something, because the defination of the phrase is “go back to where you came from”

the translation in the comments. Рыжик, любимая печенька с корицей) странно, что в итоге он вышел совсем не таким как на эскизе. Видимо потому, что дорисовывала лежа в больнице, настроение так себе. Но мне кстати нравится, характер вышел более каноничный. А ещё мне нравится думать, что у него волосы начинают виться, когда отрастают. Но Мо это не нравится, и он из-за этого стрижет их короче (потому что кудряшки — это слишком мило :)))
