Omniscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 was originally published by a webnovel site called Munpia 문피아. Even before being adapted into Naver Webtoon, Munpia sold the rights to adapt it (5 live-action movies, 3 seasons of TV dramas, and TV animation series) to Realies Pictures 리얼라이즈 픽쳐스 which is currently working on writing screenplays for live-action movies. No detailed information about the TV drama or animation series yet. That’s why Naver’s official announcement does not include it.
The Remarried Empress 재혼황후 had been the biggest bestseller in South Korean webnovel history until it was overtaken by Omniscient reader last year. Even though it is really popular among general public, due to the nature of its genre called RoFan 로판 (= female-oriented RomanceFantasy set in medieval Europe-like world), everyone thought that it is impossible for Korean entertainment industry to adapt it into a K-drama or a K-movie. That’s why everyone was shocked when the webnovel author said that she already signed a deal for TV drama adaptation. No information was released yet, but K-drama fan communities guess that it would be set in an imaginary constitutional monarchy like The King: Eternal Monarch 더킹 : 영원의 군주 or Princess Hours 궁. I hope it would be a fusion Saguek (historical drama) though.

Trash of the Count’s family 백작가의 망나니가 되었다 is the webtoon adaptation of a famous Korean web novel of the same name. This novel won the grand prize at the 2018 Korean Web Novel Contest. It is an ongoing series with 600+ episodes.
It stared with Kim Rok-Soo who possessed the body of an extra villain character of the fantasy novel he was reading. As a trash of the Count’s family, Cale Henituse tries to avoid his destiny (being beaten miserably by the novel’s protagonist) by changing the story a little bit, but he ends up being caught in big events on a continental scale.
Since last year, I’ve been in love with Korean web novels. I started with Korean fantasy sub-genre called “RoFan 로판 (Romance Fantasy for female readers)" such as Who made me a princess 어느날 공주가 되어 버렸다 or The Emperor and the Female Knight 황제와 여기사. However, I was getting tired of similar settings and plots, so I moved to the fantasy sub-genre for male readers. Even though it was originally designed for male readers, there are a few novels also favored by female readers, and one of them was The Trash of the Count's Family 백작가의 망나니가 되었다.

The biggest bestseller among existing Korean web novels. The largest fandom with almost equal preference between male and female readers. Many BL fans as well as many general fans. It became more popular after the webtoon’s release. The representative work of the Korean fantasy sub-genre called "Constellations 성좌물”.

The protagonist is the second prince of the kingdom destroyed by the neighboring invasion. When he opened his eyes, he realized that he was in the body of the youngest prince of the enemy country a few years before being killed. To stop his half brother from invading his kingdom in the future, the protagonist tries to understand him and gradually saves everyone around. I personally love this novel, but the author died of a chronic illness a few months ago, so we can never see the ending. No webtoon is made yet.
Naver Series webnovel Omniscient Reader ‘s sales surpassed 1.6 billion won in just one month after the webtoon’s release. It achieved record-breaking sales with a single IP.

Naver series announced on June 25th that the webnovel Omniscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 (written by Shing-shong) recorded 1.6 billion won (about 1.32 million US dollars) in webnovel sales only one month after the release of its webtoon.
The original webnovel which has recently been adapted into Naver’s Wednesday Webtoon broke through 1.6 billion won in sales in such a short period of time, achieving record sales with a single IP.
This sales record is the result of a combination of excellent IP, Naver series, and webtoon platform.
As the webtoon and its original novel was released exclusively on the Naver series and Naver Webtoon platform, the popularity of the webtoon made more readers to read the original webnovel while the original novel fans flocked to the paid portion of the webtoon (preview), which caused a synergistic effect.
The webnovel Ombiscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 is the story of a protagonist named Kim Dok-Ja 김독자 struggling to survive in the world which has been suddenly changed into the fantasy novel he’s read for 10 years.
Omniscient Reader is also very popular as Wednesday’s top webtoon on Naver. It will be serviced in many overseas markets through Naver Webtoon’s global service. Naver said that even if there are not many episodes of the webtoon yet, the amount of paid sales are already decent. So, they predicted if more episodes are accumulated and global release begins, the sales synergies will increase along with the webnovel’s sales.
“The recent introduction of webnovels with strong narrative into three-dimensional webtoons has led to the influx of new readers and the resulting sales are increasing at a frightening pace.” said Park Je-Yeon, the Naver Series’ webnovel leader. "It is the best integrated platform in South Korea that can make a synergy effect. We will continue to make the second and third Omniscient Reader.”

By the way, Naver webtoon recently decided to move its headquarters to LA, the United States. Now it is not just a South Korean webcomic publisher but a US-based multinational corporation with many overseas subsidiaries in South Korea, China, Japan, France, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Last week’s hottest topic in South Korea was the debut of Omniscient Reader전지적 독자 시점 on Naver Webtoon. As soon as the first and second chapters of the webtoon posted on Naver, the South Korean internet exploded and the real-time trending was dominated by it.
Even major Korean newspapers reported about its debut, saying it would be introduced to Naver’s overseas subsidiaries (WEBTOON) in the US, Japan, France, Thailand, and Indonesia, sooner or later.
It is quite unusual for the whole country to be so excited about the debut of a piece of Manhwa (comics), but the original web novel with the same name was the biggest hit in South Korean web novel history as far as I remember.
Unusual as a fantasy genre with a high proportion of male readers, Omniscient Reader has 51% female readers, which means it has loyal fan base who produce tons of fan fictions and fan arts.
Naturally,Dexter Studios (which produced Along with the Gods 신과 함께 movie series) signed a 5 picture deal of producing live-action movies last year. Casting and director are still undecided.
Now, webtoons and web novels seem to be leading the content trend in South Korea, and movie and TV drama industries are just following them.

Lee Jihye technically doesn’t live here but she stays over at Sooyoung-Unni’s — or is it Dokja-Ahjuusi and Master’s? they would start an argument anytime anyone tries to ask, so it never cleared up — that it feels like she lives here. It’s a known fact by everyone that Han Sooyoung and Yoo Joonghyuk are stupidly and uselessly — no, not entirely useless; it comes with its uses — attractive. They are handsome people and know it, those bastards. Han Sooyoung is shameless about it. Yoo Joonghyuk acts like he isn’t aware of it but he fully is and uses to his advantage whenever he wants.
And okay, listen. Kim Dokja is only one man. He isn’t going to be not affected by it, especially when they push themselves right into face — because they have no sense of personal space, those bastards. Asinteresting as that conversation was, Uriel still hasn’t gotten her explanation as to what Valentine’s Day is and asks Han Sooyoung, who looks like she wants to do anything but explain it, and turns to her laptop as if she isn’tgoingto and Uriel is about to protest when Han Sooyoung starts to speak.
“It’s usually when girls make chocolate and give to their crushes and stuff,” She explains, as she starts to type furiously, suspiciously fixing the screen with a glare, because Uriel knows the chapter she’s writing isn’t giving her any trouble, considering the lack of any glares and aggressiveness typing when Uriel first came to her and as much as she wants to comment on that, she focuses on Han Sooyoung’s words, instead. “But the meaning of it changed with time — now, you can give chocolate to whoever you want, it doesn’t matter if they aren’t your significant other or crush or if you aren’t a girl.”
That sounds exactly like Uriel’s kind of holiday. So exciting! Full of romance! With every moment she spends on this planet, the more Uriel falls in love with it — she’s never been so glad that Gabriel and her had crash-landed on Earth.
Han Sooyoung reaches over for Joonghyuk and grabs his face roughly. “You idiot —” She starts, before she pauses. “Huh.” She mutters, experimentally patting his cheek. “Your face is really soft. Surprising. I thought it would be all rough, considering your personality. You’re still ugly, though.” She laughs at her own joke, grinning silly up at Joonghyuk, who looks like he’s physically sick. Ha, did her burn hit him too hard?
“You’re drunk, Han Sooyoung.” Joonghyuk says. She ignores him. What does he know, she isn’t drunk. She has a higher alcohol tolerance than him. It’s just. His face is really soft… she can’t stop touching it, sliding her fingers over the edge his stupidly thick brows and down his cheek, slow, to savour the feeling.
He needs to be prepared. This is what he tells himself repeatedly in his head. He needs coins. This is just — a faster way to get them. Since they’re exhausted for the day, and there’s no other “quick” and “easy” and — less dangerous, he‘d also say but dealing Joonghyuk is anything but less dangerous.
In fact, he’s currently fearing for his life as he approaches him.
