//
The road bike universe finally came through for meIn case you didn’t know there’s been a bike shortage due to covid since last year so these babies are very hard to come by especially in my size (I’m vertically challenged)
Called more than 15 bike shops in and out of my area and the earliest date I got for the bike I wanted was October One bike shop actually told me things were so bad that they haven’t received new inventory since last year May
After stalking FB marketplace and several cycling and triathlon groups, I landed this beauty. A practically new @trekbikes Domane AL 3 in this beautiful mint green The owner rode it twice and said she preferred mountain bikes so she just had it in her garage.
I’ve taken it out on 3 rides and love it!
Can’t wait to put more miles and explore different routes with it.
Let the training continue
//
Today’s brick workout: 35 min bike ride followed by 15 min run. My legs felt like jello
How’s your training going? Anyone use cycling to cross train?

What a difference 8 weeks of dedication can make?!
This past weekend I celebrated some major fitness wins:
90 min run + walk.
2025 yd lap swim (80 laps).
High output in a 30 min spin class.
My longest distances and highest outputs in over a year happened in the span of 8 short weeks
I started out by doing just 20 mins of each activity but everyday I would wake up eager to get better and here we are today
I’ve also lost more than 16lbs in the process
Now that I’ve got my endurance up, I’m starting to eye a couple of late Summer/ Early Fall races. It’ll involve me doing some open water swims, group rides and runs.

It’s time to train baby! ‍♀️ ‍♀️
Today’s workout: 35 min trail run
5 mins core work
10 mins mobility
//
Who’s training for races? What events are on your calendar? I’m looking at a couple Sprint Tri’s in NY.

//
75 min run + walk done on my favorite trails todayThis is my longest distance in a very long timeAnd…I could’ve gone longer
All the cross training and using the run+ walk method has been paying off big time! What’s crazy is prior to becoming pregnant and having kids I didn’t use this method a lot. I guess I felt like it was something for beginners but I was totally wrong. It’s a method that can be useful for everyone especially when you’re trying to build endurance. Ultra runners use it all the time.
Super proud of myself for getting it done today especially on one my favorite trails that I haven’t been on in over a year. I love it here
How’s your day going? Anyone else hit the trails today?

That feeling of hitting your 2 week goal
/
When I started this week with food poisoning I had no idea I would end it with the longest run I’ve done in a while this morning; a 45 min run + walk (5 mins running 1 min walking ) followed by 20 mins of strength training for runners. And no I did not run outside in this 90 degree heatI’m not new to this but it’s too early for me to be messing with this heat and humidity so I ran on the treadmill
/
It’s only been a couple of weeks since I made the commitment to change and I’m amazed at how strong my body feels. Just goes to show that if you stay consistent and put in the work, it will pay off.
Here’s what I did this week:
2 x 30 min spin classes ✅
2 x 20 min swim ✅
3 x 20 min strength classes✅
2 x 20-30 min run✅
1 x 45 min run + walk✅
Mobility and meditation daily ✅

Week 2 is done ✅
Looking forward to week 3

How did your fitness week go? Did you meet your goal?

Take care of the earth the same you take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.
//
Happy Earth Day!
Everyday we do so many things to help take care of our bodies. We exercise, drink lots of water, eat healthy foods, moisturize our skin, sleep… the list goes on and on because we want to live well and improve the quality of our life.
Well that same energy needs to be put into the way we treat our environment and this earth because it has the biggest impact on the quality of our lives.
There are so many things we can do to make a difference. From going virtual and paperless to consuming less meat and more plant foods to planting a tree to cutting back on air and car travel to reducing food and plastic waste to recycling and upcycling materials.
I’m proud to say I’ve done all these things and have taken it a step further by wearing sustainable clothing like this @sweatybetty outfit. My top is made from recycled polyester and my leggings are made from 17 plastic bottles How cool is that?! So I’m taking care of my body and helping the planet at the same time Every change no matter how small, makes a difference.
So tell me. What are you doing to help take care of the earth today and everyday?

Selfcare Sunday
//
You know how I told you that I barely got any sleep for the better part of a year due to the pandemic and zero childcare? Well what I didn’t tell you was that it got compounded by moving and doing several home renovation projects
Needless to say, my physical and mental health were suffering because of itI was exhausted!
With the help of meditation and reducing screen time at night, it’s gotten better, but the thing that really made the difference was changing my mattress.
I partnered with @lullbed and they sent me a new mattress that has totally changed the way I sleep. I went from barely sleeping to being completely in love with going to bed at night again. It’s probably the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. There’s this amazing memory form feature that takes away motion so I no longer feel my husband shifting around, turning or moving next to me. Sometimes I don’t even know when he gets out of bed. It’s been great. Their pillows are also equally amazing!

I’m so happy I no longer wake up feeling tired and achy. I feel so rested now that I can finally start making plans to train hard ‍♀️again

Tell me. What’s been helping you to sleep better at night?

Wanna try @lullbed? Go to lull.com/sassyfitgirl and get $250 off or click on the link in my bio. Convenient free shipping & returns with 100-night trial.

Trying to get my body and these lungs used to this weatherFeels like just yesterday I was rocking short sleeves and thin long sleeves enjoying Fall and then the weather just switched to freezing cold. Anyone else feel like winter just came outta nowhere? ‍♀️I wasn’t ready Gotta break out the fleece lined gear and hard warmers STAT!
As usual, I’m always in search of the perfect winter running gloves because my fingers take a while to warm up.

Throwback to running 9 months pregnant with my 2nd. I can never get enough of these imagesLove sharing them to show Mamas-to-be that you can keep running and working out while pregnant. For a long time things like this were discouraged because they thought physical activities would harm the baby, but it won’t. So if your OBGYN gives you the go ahead and your body is up to it, run on

This is the face of a Mama who just completed ✅ her first virtual relay race
Our team, By Any Means, covered over 700 miles virtually from Atlanta to DC in 7 days in the Womxn Run the Vote relay
My goal was to contribute at least 35 miles and I ended up doing 40 miles and the night is still young
It was fun to get in consistent movement while getting a civil rights history lesson along the way.
//
Congrats to everyone on our team along with the thousands of others that participated in the other 400 teams. We did it!

Give yourself some grace Mama.
//
That’s what I would tell myself at the time this photo was taken 3 years ago. I was a first time Mom training for the NYC marathon and completely underestimated how hard it would be with a 10 month old.
My recovery from an unplanned c-section was really really hard, my hormones took a long time to get back to normal, my daughter went from being a super sleeper to having sleep regression and would wake up in the middle of the night so I was exhausted! To top it off I had no childcare because I was terrified of leaving my daughter with anyone so I took her with me on my training runs in a jogging stroller.
As much as I loved the jogging stroller, it took me a while to get the hang of it and even when I did, I didn’t love it for long runs.
I tried making plans to do group runs with various running clubs and they rarely materialized so I would end up running on my own and lacked motivation going over 15 miles.
I made it to the marathon tired and undertrained. I was able to finish but I did not enjoy it, came close to quitting many times and it was my slowest marathon.

I took a nice long break from running after that and promised myself that if I would never put myself in that position again because it wasn’t worth it.
//
So if you’re a new Mama, remember to give yourself some grace.

Breaking news!
I’m not running a marathon this year. I’m not running a half marathon either. Hell I’m not even running a 10k.
I have zero desire to run long distances right now and I’m perfectly okay with that.
//
Before the pandemic hit, I was training for my first half marathon race after having my 2nd child. As much as I tried not to put pressure on myself, I still felt it.
Then I had a knee pain that required physical therapy and I thought “Oh shit.”
Then I kept getting sick thanks to having a little one in preschool bring home all the germs and I thought “Double Oh Shit!”
Then the pandemic hit and I cancelled my race(before they eventually cancelled) and felt relief. Like a weight was lifted off my shoulders.

I decided to take several weeks off and did spinning instead.

When I returned to running, it was in memory of Ahmaud Arbery. A 2.23 mile run that felt way harder than it should’ve. I was slow and felt so out of shape but I missed being outdoors so I decided to try again and again and again. Initially I was paying attention to all the numbers; pace, time, distance and would complain about my run. Then one day I stopped paying attention to the numbers and committed to just showing up for as long as my body felt good and then I would stop. Whether that was at mile 1 mile or mile 3. I would stop and walk home. I did this for a few weeks and something clicked. My mind and body felt better and I started to run stronger.

Instead of coming back from a run feeling defeated, I would come home with a big ole smile on my face and dance around for my cool down.

My runs right now are short and easy but super enjoyable which is exactly what I need them to be. 3-4x a week and having fun

Has your running or training changed during the pandemic?
