Omniscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 was originally published by a webnovel site called Munpia 문피아. Even before being adapted into Naver Webtoon, Munpia sold the rights to adapt it (5 live-action movies, 3 seasons of TV dramas, and TV animation series) to Realies Pictures 리얼라이즈 픽쳐스 which is currently working on writing screenplays for live-action movies. No detailed information about the TV drama or animation series yet. That’s why Naver’s official announcement does not include it.
The Remarried Empress 재혼황후 had been the biggest bestseller in South Korean webnovel history until it was overtaken by Omniscient reader last year. Even though it is really popular among general public, due to the nature of its genre called RoFan 로판 (= female-oriented RomanceFantasy set in medieval Europe-like world), everyone thought that it is impossible for Korean entertainment industry to adapt it into a K-drama or a K-movie. That’s why everyone was shocked when the webnovel author said that she already signed a deal for TV drama adaptation. No information was released yet, but K-drama fan communities guess that it would be set in an imaginary constitutional monarchy like The King: Eternal Monarch 더킹 : 영원의 군주 or Princess Hours 궁. I hope it would be a fusion Saguek (historical drama) though.
Naver Series webnovel Omniscient Reader ‘s sales surpassed 1.6 billion won in just one month after the webtoon’s release. It achieved record-breaking sales with a single IP.

Naver series announced on June 25th that the webnovel Omniscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 (written by Shing-shong) recorded 1.6 billion won (about 1.32 million US dollars) in webnovel sales only one month after the release of its webtoon.
The original webnovel which has recently been adapted into Naver’s Wednesday Webtoon broke through 1.6 billion won in sales in such a short period of time, achieving record sales with a single IP.
This sales record is the result of a combination of excellent IP, Naver series, and webtoon platform.
As the webtoon and its original novel was released exclusively on the Naver series and Naver Webtoon platform, the popularity of the webtoon made more readers to read the original webnovel while the original novel fans flocked to the paid portion of the webtoon (preview), which caused a synergistic effect.
The webnovel Ombiscient Reader 전지적 독자 시점 is the story of a protagonist named Kim Dok-Ja 김독자 struggling to survive in the world which has been suddenly changed into the fantasy novel he’s read for 10 years.
Omniscient Reader is also very popular as Wednesday’s top webtoon on Naver. It will be serviced in many overseas markets through Naver Webtoon’s global service. Naver said that even if there are not many episodes of the webtoon yet, the amount of paid sales are already decent. So, they predicted if more episodes are accumulated and global release begins, the sales synergies will increase along with the webnovel’s sales.
“The recent introduction of webnovels with strong narrative into three-dimensional webtoons has led to the influx of new readers and the resulting sales are increasing at a frightening pace.” said Park Je-Yeon, the Naver Series’ webnovel leader. "It is the best integrated platform in South Korea that can make a synergy effect. We will continue to make the second and third Omniscient Reader.”

By the way, Naver webtoon recently decided to move its headquarters to LA, the United States. Now it is not just a South Korean webcomic publisher but a US-based multinational corporation with many overseas subsidiaries in South Korea, China, Japan, France, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Last week’s hottest topic in South Korea was the debut of Omniscient Reader전지적 독자 시점 on Naver Webtoon. As soon as the first and second chapters of the webtoon posted on Naver, the South Korean internet exploded and the real-time trending was dominated by it.
Even major Korean newspapers reported about its debut, saying it would be introduced to Naver’s overseas subsidiaries (WEBTOON) in the US, Japan, France, Thailand, and Indonesia, sooner or later.
It is quite unusual for the whole country to be so excited about the debut of a piece of Manhwa (comics), but the original web novel with the same name was the biggest hit in South Korean web novel history as far as I remember.
Unusual as a fantasy genre with a high proportion of male readers, Omniscient Reader has 51% female readers, which means it has loyal fan base who produce tons of fan fictions and fan arts.
Naturally,Dexter Studios (which produced Along with the Gods 신과 함께 movie series) signed a 5 picture deal of producing live-action movies last year. Casting and director are still undecided.
Now, webtoons and web novels seem to be leading the content trend in South Korea, and movie and TV drama industries are just following them.
Nowadays, I see many viewers saying that they are watching Six Flying Dragons 육룡이 나르샤 (2015 SBS). it’s rare to see a 5-year-old Sageuk drama find new viewers this lately. Is it because of My country : The New Age 나의 나라 (2019 JTBC drama) which shares the same time period? Or, are more and more people binge watching extremely long 50 episode Korean historical dramas to avoid boredom during their Covid-19 quarantine? LOL
Because of the consecutive failures of the last year’s Korean historical dramas (except for Netflix zombie Sageuk Kingdom), the production of Sageuk dramas is going to be rare this year. Therefore, it might be a good idea for Sageuk fans to look back on the old masterpieces again.
Anyways, I am now busy watching Korean Webtoons and Webnovels instead of TV drama these days. Solo leveling 나혼자만 레벨업, Tower of God 신의 탑, Death is the only ending for Villainess 악역의 엔딩은 죽음뿐, The emperor and the female knight 황제와 여기사, etc. They are really fun. I think the next big K-culture waves may come from this webtoons and webnovels. Far more exciting and creative than TV drama and films.

I just finished a stressful part of my college activities, so I pampered myself with a drawing of a project that a good friend of mine and I are working on. The drawing represents one of the protagonists of the story (and who is my character and who belongs to me) on her wedding day.
Born Karla Nesta Beauchamp, she is one of the main characters of the first part of the project. A pleasant and calm personality with an elegant appearance, Karla was born in Maidstone, Kent County, England on January 12, 1954 and is the penultimate child of a family with five daughters. After a first failed marriage (arranged by her father), she becomes the lover, later the wife of Vincent Elkins, an influential count who gives Karla the chance to start a new life, this time among the English aristocracy. During the narration and due to the active interest that her husband has in the spirits, she gets to know Delicia Marlowe (my friend’s original character), a medium, ending up having a close friendship with her. The drawing shows her somewhere in 1981, just one year after her marriage to Vincent, when she was around 27 years old.
This is my second biggest project, besides the one about the War of the Roses.
Interface is a queer, sci-fi web novel about a world where people evolved bio-electric organs that let them produce current in their bodies and feel electric fields and waves. They use this to communicate and develop technology in an advanced-tech world where three major companies in a governmental alliance vie for power over one another.
The story updates twice a month, and the story is currently progressing through its first major arc, Pt. 1, called, “The Robot.”
The plot revolves around two kids from opposite walks of life in a high-tech world that is all one city divided into sectors. Their lives become entangled when they discover a mysterious robot. Intrigue, tragedy, and hijinks ensue as they delve into the conspiracy.
