volunteers’ support group for ukrainian refugees going to/through romania
many ukrainian refugees will likely travel to or transit romania in the next couple of weeks. this is a fb group where romanian volunteers post offers of accommodation, transport, food and other basic necessities. posts are in romanian and english but they already have ukrainan speakers on board to help translate. a couple of refugees have posted asking for help with accommodation and got help quickly. i’ve also seen offers of long-distance transportation, restaurants offering free meals, people offering to book and pay for shorter hotel/airbnb stays, and support for pets.
the romanian government and local administration will have a refugees program in place, but to be honest they tend to be slow and half-ass things more often than not. this group is helpful in an emergency or for shorter-term needs.
please keep in mind that this is a group where people volunteer their resources/efforts but there’s no clear coordination or an administrative structure. it’s not an ngo or charity organization. however, i’ve spent a few hours today monitoring the group and people are doing this in good faith and want to support ukrainians with what they personally can. the few critical or derogatory comments i’ve seen crop up were shut down harshly. no one has been asking for money in exchange for what they offer. the atmosphere is friendly.
please share this outside of tumblr too. many romanians condemn this invasion and hope ukrainians can feel safe and welcome with us
hey, please rb this version, the link to the group doesn’t show in the original i posted last night and i only noticed this morning. thanks for sharing!
‼️‼️ update on crossing into moldova: google sheet where you can post what kind of help you need, or check what volunteers are offering. there are phone numbers so you can reach people directly. the page is in ukrainian. red text to let them know you’re in an emergency.‼️‼️
Now that everyone is reading Dracula Daily, let me briefly remind you that Transylvania is not a country, but a region of a larger country named Romania.
And Dracula is inspired by a historical figure Romanians respect and appreciate very much: Vlad (Dracul) Tepes.
Please be mindful of our culture and history when you are having fun.
Sincerely, a very tired Romanian who had to deal with not so well informed readers for years.
