Sekhmet, Sekhmet, Eye of Ra. Lady of the Red Lands.
She both protector, fierce of claw, and a healer strong in heka. A large, complex name that almost has two faces to her own side of the coin. She is a Name that came to me often this year, and has brought her fierceness with her. While this piece may be a small tribute, it is no less of who she is.

I am compiling prayers for a mini pocket prayer book that will be available online for free when it is complete. It is told that Muhammad awoke one day to the sounds of the Adhan, the Muslim daily call to prayer. Preparing to attend, he began to dress himself; however, he soon discovered his cat Muezza sleeping on the sleeve of his prayer robe. Rather than wake her, he used a pair of scissors to cut the sleeve off, leaving the cat undisturbed. When he returned from the Mosque, Muhammad received a bow from Muezza in gratitude. He then stroked his beloved cat three times.

Nos meus estudos encontrei o artigo “A Lioness at peace: Two Aspects of the Goddess Bastet” do Dr. Jaromir Malek do Griffith Institute (Ashmolean Museum, Oxford) e achei legal compartilhar a ideia dele como um dos textos de culto para Bast, pois neste trabalho ocorre uma análise de uma estatueta de Bast sem a cabeça de gato. Todas as imagens nesse post são do artigo citado acima.
7 dias de culto em homenagem ao amor e ferocidade de Bast

Bastet com cabeça de leoa
Como escrevi anteriormente nos primeiros textos deste 7 dias de culto com Bast, suas primeiras representações eram de uma mulher com cabeça de leoa ou com a cabeça de um gato selvagem sendo sua relação específica com o gato doméstico mais tardia. Acho muito interessante para quem cultua Bast apenas na forma de gato doméstico ou na forma completamente humanoide, se conectar com Ela em sua forma zoomórfica com cabeça de leoa e acredito que podemos fazer isso através da observação de estatuetas de Bast com essa representação mais antiga.
A seguir algumas análises e conclusões do Dr. Jaromir sobre a estátua com minha tradução livre e adaptação:
“A imagem analisada possui uma inscrição que a identifica enquanto Bastet, ela tem a cabeça de leoa que está em pé, acompanhada por dois gatos sentados. Figuras semelhantes a analisada são mais identificáveis como esculturas de Sekhmet pelo rosto que sugere ser de um leão ou de uma leoa circundado por uma juba. Quando comparada com as estátuas de Sekhmet, o rosto da estatueta analisada é muito mais pontudo. A Bastet da estatueta usa um disco solar com um uraeus em sua cabeça, com a mão esquerda segurando um cajado de lótus, e a mão direita carregando um ankh. Existe uma inscrição em hieróglifos que comunica: “Que Bastet dê vida a Paiuenhor, filho de Pashenbaste, nascido de (mulher) Tahetro”. E essa inscrição aponta que a estatueta provavelmente é do período tardio.
Alguns elementos importantes a se adicionar sobre Bast e Sekhmet é um hino da 12ª Dinastia que exalta as virtudes do Rei Amenemhet III ele é descrito como ‘Bastet guardando as Duas Terras’ e ‘Sekhmet para aquele que desafia seu comando’. Pelo início do primeiro milênio, a deusa Bast e sua manifestação típica o gato acabou ultrapassando em popularidade a deusa Sekhmet especialmente em regiões pobres. Bast começou então a ser cultuada com características mais duais, combinando paz-amor e ferocidade.”
Apesar de alguns arqueólogos afirmarem que Bastet e Sekhmet são a mesma divindade, muitos não concordam com isso e particularmente no meu culto elas sempre foram deusas diferentes. Na Kemet Orthodoxy também as enxergamos como divindades distintas. Assim como existem outras divindades com representação de leoa (ex. Tefnut), Bast carrega esse simbolismo em sua história marcado a importante característica de uma das grandes protetoras do Olho de Rá. E uma das formas de observamos que Bastet em si pode ter uma cabeça de leoa e procurarmos sua história para além das mudanças gregas e mais recentes, é observamos essas peças antigas e traçarmos como os antigos a observavam.
Que os nossos cultos apenas se fortaleçam com a proteção e força da poderosa! Que Bastet com sua cabeça de leoa nos ajude a enfrentar nossos inimigos!

In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet (/ˈsɛkˌmɛt/ or Sachmis (/ˈsækmɪs/), also spelled Sakhmet, Sekhet, or Sakhet, among other spellings, is a warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. It was said that her breath formed the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare. Her cult was so dominant in the culture that when the first pharaoh of the twelfth dynasty, Amenemhat I, moved the capital of Egypt to Itjtawy, the centre for her cult was moved as well. Religion, the royal lineage, and the authority to govern were intrinsically interwoven in ancient Egypt during its approximately three millennia of existence. Sekhmet is also a solar deity, sometimes called the daughter of Ra and often associated with the goddesses Hathor and Bastet. She bears the Uraeus, which associates her with Wadjet and royalty, and the solar disk. With these associations she can be construed as being a divine arbiter of Ma'at (“justice” or “order”) in the Judgment Hall of Osiris, associating her with the Wadjet (later the Eye of Ra), and connecting her with Tefnut as well.
