Blast to the past

Sodapop Curtis x Reader

Summary: Soulmates are very tricky because sometimes two people who are meant to be are born in two different generations. Your soulmate can be born three days after you die. Luckily the mystical universe transports you there to meet yours. That’s how you find yourself back in the 1960’s instead of the present.

Warnings: hinting at sexual assault

~~~~~~
Friday night is ladies night. It has been since you were twelve and it will be until you die. The core group gets together and does whatever seems interesting for the evening. The three of you ranged in activities of going to the movies, getting something to eat, thrifting, people watching, getting coffe and sitting at an empty park- you name it and it’s been done.
Tonight the gang decided to get smoothies and sit in an empty parking lot. The small town didn’t allow much entertainment for freshly graduated adults. Especially for adults that wanted more to life than such a simple place could provide.
Claire laid on the pavement, dark hair swirling around her shoulders as she turned to gaze at the moon. She was beautiful in the moonlight, soft skin glowing. You were always jealous of her unique good looks, but never aimed bitter thoughts at her. She was a warm and loving friend who was literally a ride or die.
Claire turned her head to look at Margo who was sitting upright with her keys in hand, twirling them around her hands. Margo was the wild one of the trio. The jokester who was basically a meme lord. You three fit like puzzle pieces, best friends for ever.
Claire and you shared a look of amusement as Margo dropped her keys, mumbling a quiet shitbefore laughing and picking them back up to repeat her actions.
“This is supposed to be a quiet, soul searching moment you know.” You deadpanned, lips curling into a smile as Margo rolled her eyes and flipped you off.
“If you wanted quiet then you picked the wrong bitch to bring along.”
Claire shook her head, “Okay, let’s post on snap about a replacement bitch. Preferably one that can be silent at times.”
You shifted so that your legs were pulled up in front of you instead of rested against the cold ground of the parking lot. A funny thing to add popped into your mind and you knew it would make them laugh, “There’s one more requirement though. It’s vital.” You added, swirling the contents in your cup to break up the remaining blotches of ice.
“Hmm?”
“They have to be willing to sacrifice their own life for Pakistan”
Claire busted out laughing hitting her cup off her leg and Margo snorted, causing everyone to laugh even harder. That fucking tik tok would never not be funny to you guys. Especially when their soulmates thought it was hilarious and would say it when you guys failed to.
Claire found her soulmate a year ago at a football game. Her soul mark burned when the cute player from the other team bumped into her after the game. Gage was the coolest dude you knew. He treated you guys like best friend and he treated her like she was the sky, the moon, and the stars. Not long after Claire found him, Margo found Naomi. A badass chick that was a tattoo artist in town. Margo now has little tattoos decorating her body from the designs her soulmate came up with. Naomi and Margo just fit, and you were happy for her. Happy for both of them.
Day after day with no luck of finding your other half, you were starting to despair for yourself. Soulmates usually found each other close to adulthood if they were in the right life time. It was disappointing to go to bed every night knowing that you were still alone. Your best friends loved you more than anything and always included you, but the soulmate connection was different- special above everything else. And here you lacked that.
Margo dropped her keys again but left them there. She picked up on your solemn mood after you didn’t talk for a few moments.
“I wanted to go camping this weekend, maybe you’ll find your lover there?” She softly spoke, giving you a hopeful smile.
You sadly smiled back, “I dunno, probably not. Sorta giving up over here.”
You looked down at the simple soul mark. An old pop bottle was the initials S.P in the middle with the letters DX very small on the bottom left underneath it. Marks were supposed to signify something important about your other half, describe something about them to you. Ever since you were old enough to remember you would buy old fashioned pop in order to collect the bottles. It meant the world to you.
“Don’t say something like that, of course you will meet them dude. We found ours early but that didn’t mean you won’t ever find them. I’m sure your other half is right around the corner.” Claire supported, patting your thigh for comfort.
“Yeah, it could be Harry Styles for all we know. And honestly it would make sense because how the hell do you meet someone famous like that?” Margo trailed off.
You scoffed, “Harry Styles- my ass. His indicator would so not be an old pop bottle. It would be a guitar or something like that.”
“I guess so. Point is, don’t fret. You have time. The world may fuck with people, but not good ones like you.” Margo grinned childishly.
“Yeah, you’re right. I am good. I sacrifice my own life for Pakistan.”
“God dammit, I hate you.” Claire stood up and offered a hand, pulling you both upright, “We better get going. The same cop has been driving by and I don’t like it.”
“ACAB.” Margo chanted as she crawled into the backseat of the car. You laughed and pushed her the rest of the way in with your foot before shuffling in yourself.
‘Best friend’ by Rex Orange County blared through the speakers as the car moved on the damp roads in the dark night. You guys sang loudly, hands out the window to feel the wind ripple against fingertips. Your heart filled with adoration of the girls in the vehicle with you. Getting sad about the soulmate thing sucked but dealing with it was easier when you had two people to assure you and take your mind off of it.
You waved bye as you walked up the steps of your house. You quickly noticed that no one else was home. Your siblings were off with their friends for the night and your parents went out for their anniversary. You sighed, taking your shoes off lazily. A warm bath would feel so nice to finish out the day. You stretched before taking a step forward toward the bathroom but your foot caught underneath the rug and you fell face first onto the hard surface of the tile.
****
Your body felt like it was on fire while rolling over to rest on your back. Forcing your eyes open, you gasped at the sight before you. Instead of laying on the bathroom floor, you were in an empty parking lot. Your heart thud roughly in your chest as you scrambled to stand.
Your mind began to panic as you didn’t recognize your surroundings. An old diner sat across from the lot and it wasn’t the one you, Claire, and Margo sometimes went to. You brushed yourself off and looked around, confused as to what was going on. Had you gotten drunk and imagined you were home and somehow managed to get lost? Did you fall so hard that you passed out and got kidnapped? Sharp pains alerted your mind to put a finger to your face. There was a scratch from where you fell, you must’ve hit it. You were just glad that your wallet was still in your hand but your phone wasn’t. You searched for it but no luck.
You meekly opened the diner door and shuffled inside. It was themed to be an old authentic diner. The usual black and white checkered floor tile, the twisty barstools, and the car sign decorations on the wall. Diners like this were adorable in your eyes.
You went to sit at a both and grabbed the young pretty waitress. She gazed at your clothes in confusion which made you internally frown. Your outfit wasn’t inappropriate or anything. Blue khaki shorts that came above mid thigh and a white and blue tie dye shirt.
“Excuse me, where am I?” You asked, embarrassment creeped up your spine as she gave you an old look.
“Tulsa. Are you lost?” She asked, shifting the tray to rest on her hip.
You quickly shook your head no, “Thank you, I’m not lost. Just uh, traveling. I’ll just have a water please.”
She gave you a funny look but nodded, going to get you the cup of water. Everyone in the diner glanced at you in curiously which made you paranoid. Alone without a phone and no escape plan. Not an ideal set up. You tried to rack your brain for what the hell was going on but you were outta luck.
Water was set down on the table and she stood there, observing you. You felt her eyes staring at your piercings, especially the hoop in your nose. You awkwardly looked up at her and smiled, hoping she would go away.
“That’s an odd looking necklace, Miss.” Her hand casually pointed towards the crystal gem necklace hanging between your breasts over your shirt.
You shrugged, “You’ve never seen them before? They sell them at Walmart or any hippy store really.”
She wrinkled her nose in judgement, “Huh, never heard of Walmart. Must be from wherever you’re from.”
You choked on air, coughing loudly to force oxygen back into your lungs. How could someone now know Walmart? Was she fucking with you right now? Waitresses usually weren’t rude unless you were rude to them first.
“They’re like nation wide? One in every town? Seriously, every town.”
No emotion appeared on her face as she shook her head no, “I still don’t know what you’re talking about… do your parents buy you those shorts? Do they care about your nose ring?”
You squirmed in your seat at her question, her voice carried a shrill tone that let you know that she didn’t approve. Jesus, did this girl think you should be in a full body suit without showing skin? You pulled them down subconsciously to try to hide some of your upper thigh. As for your nose ring, you were baffled as to why your that was an issue. So many women had them.
“I bought the shorts, but they don’t have an issue with them if that’s what you’re trying to get at? They think the nose ring is cute too. My parents are very cool with me choosing to do what I wish with my body.”
Her eyes widened in a holy-cow-you’re-crazy sorta way, “My parents would kill me if I looked like you.”
A dry laugh escaped your lips at her harsh words. And they were harsh, whether she met them to be or not. Putting women down wasn’t what you stood for and you really thought that the world was passed shaming people for what they look like.
“It’s twenty-twenty , they shouldn’t care about what you look like. Acceptance is key to a happy family.”
“What’s that mean?” She cocked her head to the side in confusion.
“Huh?”
“Twenty-twenty what is that?”
You glanced at the table to your left that was intently listening in on the conversation. You felt uncomfortable in the booth. Two guys stared shamelessly at your legs and you wanted to crawl under the table and hide.
“The year? It’s two thousand and twenty?”
She threw her head back, blonde hair following to fall down her back, “You really are an odd ball.”
You furrowed your eyebrows.
“It’s nineteen sixty nine, dear. Your cheek is bleeding and I’m assuming you fell because you’re acting crazy.” She quietly said, bending down to your eye level. A part of you wanted to hit her so hard that she fell down. Condescending attitudes rubbed you the wrong way to say the least.
You were fuming as you took two dollars out and put them on the counter, “Have a good evening.” You gritted out.
***
The cold night air pinched your skin as you walked aimlessly around the small town. You came to the conclusion that it was 1969 and you realized why the waitress was so taken back by your appearance. Girls in the sixties probably didn’t have shorts this short or nose piercings. It all made sense as you took in the town. The old styled cars, how people dressed, hell- how they talked. Old ass terms that people only used as a joke now.
So yes, you were in the past, but how and why. Watching Shameless in your bed right now seemed like heaven on earth. Your mom and dad’s faces haunted your mind when you thought about never getting to see them again. Tomorrow they would get back only to see that you have disappeared without a trace. Your dad will be so worried and heartbroken and your mom will be calling everyone to ask if they saw you.
And what would Claire and Margo think? You just knew they would feel so guilty for not knowing when they were the last ones you saw. Hurting them only hurt you more.
You found an old tree and sat down against it, letting the tears splash down your face. It was cold out from the brisk air and you had nothing to layer up with. This sucks, mega sucks, you noted.
An old red Ford Mustang parked on the road and two men got out of the car and headed your way. You clutched your wallet close to your chest in predetermined fear. Two men walking towards any woman would make that woman scared. It was a built in instinct that still wasn’t gone in the twentieth century. Especially with the men from this time. You knew women weren’t truly equal yet and they especially weren’t in this time.
They had on khaki pants and different colored polyester sweaters. Same guys from the diner that were watching you. Horrible look in their eyes as they stood in front of you.
“What’s a pretty lady like you sitting out here alone for? It’s late.” The one wearing a yellow sweater asked. His hair was brown and smoothed back, you were unable to see his eyes in the dark. He bent down to look at you in a way you didn’t appreciate. You were not having it.
“Really? Is it late? Couldn’t tell, not like the moon’s out or anything.” You retorted, shifting further back into the tree.
“Woah, no need to get lippy with me, hun.” He said, looking back at the other guy with the red sweater. Red shook his head to agree with yellow.
“Let’s not get comfortable with the nicknames. I’d say I’d call the cops but hah, ACAB… not that you would know about that.” You trailed off. You rambled when you got nervous and it was not a good feature.
“ACAB? You’re a weird one, aren’t you?” Red said, leaning down too.
“Weird, but an absolute doll. Not many girls ‘round here show skin like you.” Yellow said, hand grabbing your thigh.
Your hand slapped his away lightening fast before jumping up and backing away. You took your shoe off and held it up in defense, “Go fuck yourself! Get away from me.”
The men looked at each other in shock, assumingly at the vulgar words that escaped your pretty lips. You backed further away until you felt safe enough that you put your shoe back on and ran. You heard their feet shuffle in the grass as they ran after you.
You turned down an alley way and tripped again on a stick in the middle of the road, the boys were suddenly visible meaning you would not have time to get up and run. Instead of trying to escape, you grabbed said large stick and grasped it tightly between your hands. You wish Margo and Claire were by your side right now. You could do anything with them.
“A stick? Really? We just wanna spend some time with you.” Red said, walking closer.
“Fuck this! Fuck this so hard! Fuck toxic masculinity that makes pricks like you think it’s okay to do shit like this! Systematically you were probably raised to think chasing a woman is okay- judging from the car that you have money. Kids with money, especially in these days, are spoiled and never told no, but I don’t want you. Leave.” You shouted, twirling the stick like you saw so many times in Starwars movies. You saw the two men slowly step back and you were proud of yourself for fending them off until you heard another masculine voice behind you.
“You soc scum need to bounce.”
You moved to the side to be equally separated from whoever was behind you. A man about your age stood firmly beside two others that looked a few years off, one younger and one older.
The one that spoke was standing in the front and boy, he was beautiful. Dark hair slicked black to rest comfortably against his neck. He wore a blue and white flannel with blue jeans. His body was slim but you just knew he had some lean muscle on him. Red and yellow turned and walked away but not without making some derogatory claims about greasers.
You panted, finally breathing again as you doubled over, stick still firmly grasped in between your palms and fingers.
“Are you okay?” You heard the same voice quietly ask. You noticed they were standing right in front of you now. You meekly looked up to gaze into his pretty blue eyes. He hissed out in pain as he looked at his arm at the same exact moment that your mark started to burn so bad that you couldn’t take it. A searing pain ripped through every single one of your cells. You did it! You finally found your fucking soulmate! Without being able to stand the pain and excitement, your body tumbled forward for the second time that evening.
~~~

You heard rustling going on around you, but you clenched your eyes in fear that you wake up still stuck in the past.

“If I open my eyes and I’m not home, I’m gonna throw hands with whatever God there is.” You mumbled, slowly opening your eyes. The handsome man sat on the floor by your face, causing you to yelp and quickly move to a sitting position, hand clinging to your necklace.

“Hey, calm it, I won’t hurt you.” His gentle voice spoke. You laughed nervously as it hit you that he was your soulmate. Your life was fucked, oh so fucked. Sure, you found the one, but in a different decade!

“The world is a cruel place.” You muttered, hands removing from your necklace to rub down your face in irritation, “My life is a joke.”

He sat up on his knees, cautiously moving closer towards you as if you were a scared stray cat that he was attempting to take home to keep and take care of. You internally gagged at the idea of being kept inside as a house wife now that you were living in this time. You could not survive like that.

“It’s not. Usually people are happier to find their soulmate, yanno? I’m happy… I thought you would be.” His voice seeped with disappointment and pain.

You sighed as you felt his sadness creep up your bones and invade your sanity, “I would be thrilled if I wasn’t transported back in time. I’m not kidding, I’m from year twenty twenty. I can show you.”

You grabbed your wallet and ripped your lisence out, showing him. His eyes squinted as he read your birthday and the date you got it. His eyes enlarged as he looked back at you.

“That- that’s just impossible.”

You snorted, “S’what I thought too. Guess the universe really shoved us together on this one… and uh, thanks for saving me earlier, my inner jedi isn’t strong enough yet- I’m no obiwan.”

He furrowed his eyebrows, “I don’t know what that means.”

You blushed, “Big movie franchise that eventually comes out. I’ll try to avoid pop culture references… my bad.”

He smiled, pearly white teeth showing, “you’re really pretty, y/n.”

Your heart raced in your chest at how attractive he was. Claire and Margo would hardgirl swoon with you over him but they’re not here to join you, so you had to soak up his beauty all on your own. And him saying your name like that? God, that would make any girl bust a nut.

“How do you know my name?”

He shrugged, “Saw it when you showed me the date. The name surely suits you. I’m Sodapop, Sodapop Curtis.”

He held his hand out and you hesitantly met his half way as if to give him a handshake, but instead he intertwined your fingers together before moving closer. His skin was so warm against yours and all you wanted to do was pull him closer and bury yourself in his chest. Finally finding him was overwhelming after convincing yourself that you were doomed to be alone.

“Those guys that chased you, we ain’t letting them get away with it. We’ll find them and give ‘em a good what for.” A new voice spoke.

A kid, you guessed to be about 16, stood in the living room doorway, hands shoved deep into his jean pockets. He had longer brown hair like Sodapop, but his eyes were more hazel instead of the pretty blue. You awkwardly smiled, attempting to pull your hand away but Soda tugged it back, stubborn to lose contact so soon. He gave you a sweet smile to reassure you that he wasn’t going to try anything like the two men last night.

“Y/n, this is my brother ponyboy, and that’s my brother Darryl.” Soda said, pointing to the younger kid and the full on man that walked through the front door. You nervously waved with the hand that Soda didn’t claim.

“Hi, thank you guys for saving me… although I think my stick was pretty promising…” You awkwardly spoke making all three of them chuckle softly.

“Better safe than sorry.” Darry said, offering a smile, “Come on, Ponyboy. We will be back.”

Darry signaled Pony to go with him outside, you and Soda sat in silence as you heard the truck doors and the rumbling of an engine pulling away. His thumb grazed over the back of your hand. Your insides felt like they were melting. Sodapop was extremely attractive and you could not believe that you found him. Harry Styles has some competition for sure. Well, maybe that was going far. It’s Harry Styles, no one could really beat him.

“So what’s it like here? What do you do for fun?” You asked, looking around the house. You imagined the houses around to be very similar. Old couches, ancient TVs with the antennae’s, framed photos on the mantles, and the cool old wallpaper. Very similar to the sorta place your grandparents grew up in.

“Play cards every couple nights. Go to the drive in movies when I’m not working. Diner is open late at night so that’s where young folk hangout. We find good times.” He smiled softly, getting lost in his own thoughts, “What’s there to do for you?”

You couldn’t even begin to explain that you lay in your bed watching tik toks off your phone while Netflix plays softly in the background. Or that you quote memes in a parking lot with your friends. Soda would not understand memes at all and that would be a huge struggle because half the shit that came out of your mouth were memes.

“I have fires a lot at my house, we usually sorta just sit there and bullshit for hours but uh then there’s the usual- getting coffee and sitting in a parking lot. Not much to do in my town but eat and go somewhere to hangout…”

“That sounds nice.”

You shrugged, “More people than not get drunk or smoke weed everyday because what the hell else is there to do?”

He quirked an eyebrow, “you do that?”

You shook your head no, “My friends and I drink from time to time but not heavily. And we especially don’t go to parties because those are cesspools waiting to be caught by cops. Well, fuck cops anyway, but..”

You froze when you realized that cops in this time weren’t critized by the public as much. Political climate ranged from your time to now. Soda probably wouldn’t support the LGBTQ community, or if he did he didn’t know much about it. And racism surely lingered in the 1960’s air. You felt sick thinking about fighting barriers that you usually didn’t have to.

“Do girls swear a lot in the future?” He asked timidly, not wanting to upset you but also he was just very curious. He never heard ladies swear and especially not that word.

You snorted at how cute he was, “All the time. It’s normal for us. Trust me, if you are shocked by that you don’t want to imagine the crude things that are said daily..”

His thumb stopped rubbing circles on your hand and your heart faltered. He was probably used to obideint women who were dainty and didn’t outspeak too much. Women in this era were subservient and you could not be further from that. You had quite the mouth on you and your idea would not be oppressed. You graduated pretty high in your class. You were intelligent and political and that was mind blowing to men of this time. What if you were too much for him? You wouldn’t dare change but it would be heart breaking to know that your other half couldn’t take who you are as a person. As a woman.

“What you said about the cops.. what did they do wrong? I mean here they can be annoying but they try to be fair.” He asked, thumb rubbing your skin again. His eyes glanced down at your thighs and you blushed a bit, wishing you would’ve put on your sweatpants instead before leaving to go with the girls.

“If I explained it all, we would be sitting here for days. Long story short; African Americans still aren’t equal and they are murdered by cops at an unequal rate compared to the population size. Protests turned violent and the whole country is a mess. Half the country trusts cops and the other half wants the systematic corruption to be dismantled. Personally, I’m with the latter. So cops aren’t really my heroes. I try to avoid them. Of course my dad disagrees because he’s old fashioned and doesn’t get it, but what’s so hard to get about treating people equally. America’s supposed to be a melting pot so what’s with the racism and harsh divide? Guess the founding fathers only meant equality when it came to every white man- and that’s bullshit.”

You stopped rambling to see that soda was grinning from ear to ear at you. You gave him a questioning look. “Did I miss something?”

“You are wicked smart with politics. Wiser than anyone I know, prettier than anyone I know.”

~~~
Three weeks later you found yourself walking through the library with ponyboy, fingers grazing over every book you walked past. Books were little keys to jump inside different worlds. You wished you could find a book from 2020 that would magically transport you back. You found Soda, but at what price? You wanted to go home where you had control over your life. You were lost here.
“Any book recommendations? I’m sure you had to read a lot of these.” The youngest Curtis asked as you rounded the corner.
“Hmm, ever read any Tolkien books? Like The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings Trilogy?”
“No.”
“Awh, goodie, I get to be your mentor for this. Basically these are the best damn books that you will ever read. Bit lengthy but the detail is beautiful.”
He gently took the Hobbit in his hands, one gripping the back while the other flipped through the pages, examining how many there were before he tucked it under his arm, affirming that he would take a stab at it.
“What’s it about? Is it girly stuff- not that I mind really.”
Ponyboy was unlike the rest of the gang. He was a little softy that you wanted to hide from the world in order to protect him. The gang protected him physically but his feelings were usually punched, as much as Soda tried. Ponyboy felt things differently and deeply. He was in touch with literature and his life revolves around movies and books. You imagined how much he would adore the twentieth century with how much content there would be for him.
You crossed your arms and shifted your weight to one foot, “It’s a fantasy set up. So like elves, dwarves, hobbits, trolls, orcs, shapeshifters, magic, and I’m sure there’s more but my mind is blanking here. I promise it’s worth it. And I can explain as you read.”
“You’re a nerd?”
His innocent question made you laugh, “I guess you could say that, bud. Give it a shot and if you don’t like it, so be it,” you muttered this part to him, “although no one can resist middle earth’s charm.”
“What’s middle earth?”
“Where it takes place, it’s like another version of earth basically. But hey! You’re already so interested. Soon enough you’ll be wishing you were an elf slaying orcs too.” You joked, jabbing him in the side, “and if you say you wanna be a dwarf instead, you’re dead to me.”
He smiled, “what if I like the humans more? What then?”
“Then, I would consider you an absolute freak. Humans in this are like mediocre. Well, in the hobbit at least. Lord of the Rings they are more of a key part, but they’re so boring compared to the other cultures. Unless you like boring?” You raised an eyebrows at him.
“No, I ain’t boring. And I don’t like boring either.” He stubbornly said, walking side by side with you to go check your books out.
You grabbed a few random books that you wanted to check out. Soda worked and he refused to let you go anywhere alone, so you and Ponyboy just read a lot. It was summer vacation so he was outta school and had all the time in the world. You liked hanging out with the kid.
The two soc boys were standing by the counter when you guys got there. You huffed as the one winked at you. In that moment you wished you were legolas with a dagger and could gut him.
“Surprise seeing you here, considering I doubt you guys are literate.” You spoke, smiling at the librarian as you handed her the books.
“Surprise seeing you here with only the kid, we’ve heard you’re shaking up with Sodapop now. Looks like the greaser found his soulmate.”
The derogatory term aimed at Soda fueled your veins with rage. Blood rushed into your head at the idea that these guys thought they were above Soda, who was the kindest man you knew. Your heart told you to call them motherfucking cunts but your brain warmed you that it wasn’t a good choice. You glanced over and noticed that Pony looked as mad as you. If you retaliated, you wouldn’t get beat up but if he did, he would go home bloody while you trail behind him with a guilty face. You would give them a little talk.
You blew air out of your mouth before turning around to them, “Boys, I don’t know if you keep up with the news or not, but Vietnam is an ugly war filled with horrible people. Do you know what soldiers see? People being burned alive, dogs getting shot down, bombs obliterating people, women in villages getting raped, and most importantly you watch the men you grew to love die right before you.”
The two men stared at you wide eyed as you paused to grab the books from the librarian who was also now listeninf to you.
“Drafts are inevitable, and you know what? War doesn’t care who you are; greaser or soc. The enemy won’t stop to ask your financial stability before ending your life. The boys who you deem greasers could be the ones to save you from dying. Maybe try being nice because you never know who you will end up with on that field.”
Ponyboy’s mouth opened in shock when the two socs slowly back away and left without a single word. You hummed in victory before ushering the younger boy out of the building with you.
“Where did you hear those things? Darry keeps up with that stuff and I never heard nuthin like that.” Ponyboy asked after a few minutes.
You guys walked through the gate of the house but you halted before the steps, “A lot about the war is exposed after it ends. We learned about it in school. I used it against them as a wake up call. Try not to worry too much about it.”
Pony slowly nodded, “okay.”
The door opened and two-bit shuffled out the door with a beer can in his left hand, right hand wedged in his pocket.
“You guys are in trouble.” He sang as pony pushed him out of the way and walked into the house. Two-bit walked off the porch and turned to head home. He didn’t wanna be present for the yelling.
Soda and Darry’s heads snapped to the door and you held the books tighter to your chest to hide yourself. You two forgot to leave a note where you were going and now you were going to get scolded.
“Where the hell have you two been? It’s past 8:00.” Darry scolded, throwing down the newspaper that been in his hands.
You looked to Soda for help but even he shook his head to signal that he was just as upset. You handed the books to Pony before holding your hands up in surrender.
“Oh no, you caught us. We were at the library.” You joked, quickly knocking the smile off your face when the two older Curtis boys glared at you.
“Not funny. Anything could’ve happened to you.” Soda reprimanded. Your soulmate was always worried for you when he wasn’t around. He knew how horrible soc could be and they clearly had an interest in you. It was bad enough being away from you, but getting home to you and his kid brother not there made his nerves fly through the roof.
“Socs aren’t a worry when she’s around, trust me.” Pony mumbled, setting the books down on the table.
“Whats that mean? Did those socs bother you again, Y/N?” Soda suddenly was in front of you, checking your body for any cuts or bruises. You smacked his hands away.
“No, simmer down, I’m fine.” You said, offering him a reassuring smile.
“Then what happened!”
“She shut them down with her wit before they could even start. Those soc didn’t know how to respond so they turned around and walked right away.” Pony explained.
“What did you say?” Darry asked, slightly amused. He liked you very much and was glad that such an extraordinary woman was meant for his little brother.
You shared a look with pony to silently tell him to shut up about what you really said, “Nothing that’s important. What does matter is that Ponyboy got a bunch of books that he should be reading.”
He playfully rolled his eyes, “You want me to read so you can talk to me about elves.”
You nodded, “Well yeah, they’re the best part so get to it! Once you start you will love it.”
Ponyboy nodded before picking up the books and heading towards his shared room with Soda to begin reading. You smiled as you watch him go. You knew deep down that he was excited to read but didn’t want to make it seem like he was. He liked to taunt you with your taste in movies and books but you knew he really did agree.
“You baby him more than Soda does.” Darry stated, giving you a teasing glance.
“I don’t baby him.” Soda argued, glaring at his older brother.
“You do, Soda. Darry’s right though, I baby him a lot but I can’t help it. Pony’s a good kid that’s curious about the world. Reminds me of my best friend back home… I am sorry that we didn’t leave a note, we didn’t even think about it.” You admitted, grabbing Soda’s hand and intertwining it with his. He melted into your touch and you could tell that he wasn’t mad anymore. He couldn’t stay mad at you even if he tried.
“I know, I know. Just try to be more careful.” Darry softly spoke, “I’m headed to get a shower and go to bed. Don’t let Pony stay up too late.”
Soda muttered a yes and goodnight as you saluted Darry in a joking way, making the oldest Curtis smile and roll his eyes before going about his way.
As soon as the door was shut you were pulled into Soda’s arms, both wrapped tightly around your midsection as he nosed against your neck. You blushed as you wrapped your arms around him too, smelling the oil and dirt that came with working at the DX. It was an oddly comforting smell. Distinctly him. Your soul mark tingled as he left a soft kiss against the skin of your throat.
“You gave me a real fright, doll.” He softly spoke. Your eyes fluttered shut as he pulled you closer, his lips grazing your skin with his words, “ just worried when you’re not around, ‘m always thinking about you.”
“I didn’t know you thought about anything other than cars all day,” you poked.
He snorted, “yeah right. As if.”
“I’m so used to my independence that I forgot that here I need to let people know where I’m going.”
He pulled away slightly, “Did your parents not care about your safety?”
You snorted, “They did. Of course they did, but it was so easy to get ahold of them that I could just let them know while I was away. Plus once I turned 17 they stopped really caring what I did as long as I wasn’t doing anything sketchy. And I was always with my best friends.”
“Makes sense. Darry doesn’t care what I do if I’m with Steve…”
You pullled away and picked up one of the books to start reading it, “He should be the most concerned when you’re around that boy.”
You sat on the couch and held the book in your lap as you gave him a pointed look. He rolled his eyes. You and Steve sorta got along. He was nice and all to you, but he was a dick to ponyboy and that wasn’t appreciated. He walked to the kitchen to get a pop.
Minutes later he sat beside you on the couch, glancing down at the words splashed across the pages. He skim read but the book didn’t seem that great to him.
“Y/n?”
“Hmmm, soda?” When he didn’t reply you half way shut the book and turned to him, “what’s up?”
“Does it ever bother you that you’re so much smarter than me?”
Your heart burned at his question. Soda had a complex that he was stupid because he dropped out of high school. Everyone knew he did it because of his situation in which he tragically lived. Darry couldn’t do everything on his own and soda knew that. He sacrificed his future for the better of his small family. He wasn’t dumb.
“Education changes through years, so a lot of new material has been taught to me that you wouldn’t have known.”
He crossed his arms against his chest and slunk down in the cushion, “Come on, for real. Doesn’t it bother you that I’m a drop out?”
You set the book down and shifted so that your hands wrapped around his right bicep. You leaned your head on his shoulder. He didn’t look at you, instead he was staring holes into his bedroom door.
“Sometimes I feel like you should’ve been Ponyboy’s soulmate instead of mine.” He softly spoke, “He’s brilliant.”
“Oh my god, Soda. Can it. The universe wouldn’t send me decades back to find you if we weren’t meant to be. Not one part of me cares that you didn’t finish high school. You’re Soda. The smart man who takes care of his family. Does it bother you that I’m brainless when it comes to cars?”
Soda gave you a look like you were insane, “I don’t mind at all.”
“See, it doesn’t matter. I don’t see you as dumb and I wish you would stop seeing yourself that way too.”
Ponyboy walked into the living room, blonde hair messy as if he was playing with it. His cheeks were flushed from sitting under blankets and he looked a bit sleepy. Reading always made him a bit tired from how at peace he was, which was rare in his current life.
“Y/N, I don’t know how to feel about Bilbo. He seems good but he also seems a little selfish.” He said, eyes skimming along some of the words.
You smiled, “He’s a really pure character. You’ll grow to enjoy him. What part did you get to?”
Just like that Soda was in a better mood. Watching you speak so happily and effortlessly to his little brother about a book made his heart soar. Sometimes he felt like he couldn’t connect with Pony like he wanted to. And where he was lacking you were there to make up for it.
A few hours later Soda sweetly kissed you goodnight before retiring to his shared room with Pony. You snuggled into the couch with blankets wrapped around you.
~~~

Opening your eyes you saw that you were laying in your bed instead of the Curtis’ couch. Panic flood through your veins at the idea of returning home without the boys. Your heart was racing out of your chest as you looked at the decorations on your wall. A place that felt like your safest place was now a personal hell.

You wanted to return home but not without Soda, Pony, Darry, Two-bit and even Steve. God, you had to have been especially emo if you wished to see Steve more.

The idea of seeing Claire and Margo was beyond relieving but the pain of never seeing Soda again almost cancelled it out. Once again you would be the friend without a soulmate- without a better half. You sighed as angry tears slipped from your eyes. Why did the world have to fuck with you so much? You didn’t have a soulmate, found them in another decade, and then when you grew adapted to the times and people, Mother Earth ripped you back to your old life.

“Hun, why are you crying?” You heard Soda say. You tried to sit up to look for him but a firm arm was wrapped around your middle. Somehow you completely didn’t register that when you woke up.

You struggled to turn around and there he was. Beautiful Sodapop Curtis laying right beside you in your bed. In 2020. His hair was slightly shorter but his kind blue eyes were still the same. He was still the same handsome boy from the 1960’s.

A choked sob escaped your lips as you wrapped your arms around him, pulling yourself as close as you could. Warm skin against yours assured yourself that he was real. This was real. Not some dream that your brain cruelly conjured you in attempt to calm you down.

“Did you have a nightmare?” He softly asked, a hand coming to rub up and down your back. His gesture only made more tears leak out of your eyes. You were so confused. Why wasn’t he freaking out too?

“I don’t know. Where’s Ponyboy and the guys?”

His hand faltered for a moment before he went back to comforting you, his lips pecked your forehead a few times, “They’re at home, probably asleep. Did you have a nightmare about them?”

Your mind was spiraling. Somehow the boys made it here too and soda seemed to not find this weird at all. He was acting like everything was normal.

“What year were you born?” You asked, clutching onto him, trying to remember what his skin felt like against yours.

“1999. Babe, tell me what’s going on. You’re starting to scare me here.” He lightly chuckled, adoring that you were clutching onto him as if he would disappear.

You didn’t know how to explain so you disguised it as a dream, “I had a weird dream, a really realistic one, that I was transported back to the 1960’s and I found you and the guys there. I can’t remember how we met now.”

You felt him shift slightly to get his arm free. He picked up his phone and the screen lit up. His lock screen was a picture of you two in front of a well taken care of old blue camaro.

“We met five months ago at a car show. You were with your grandpa, Claire, and Margo and I was with the boys. My mark burned when I accidently brushed your arm when I passed. We realized what was going on and we got this picture. We’ve been together since.” He recalled easily.

As he spoke, you could faintly see all of this happening in your point of view. How happy you felt when you saw him, the tingling of your mark, gushing internally at how attractive he was, you could even hear Margo cat calling in your head when you two got that picture.

Suddenly memories were dancing around in your brain. Getting Taco Bell together at midnight. Him joining your friend group to sit around the usual fire pit, him making you a s’more when you beg him even though you knew you didn’t have to ask more than once. Him building you the nice wooden shelf in your room that you put your weird Knick knacks on. Him laughing along when you scream “I will sacrifice my own life for Pakistan.” Going over for dinner and watching Lord of the Rings with pony boy.

“It’s all real.” You breathed out, “I’m sorry, that dream just really messed me up..”

He grinned down at you, his lips slowly drifting right above yours until they softly brushed together. Your soul mark tingled in utter delight. His arms slithered around your back as he moved on top of you, “I should be offended that you forgot about all of that, you know.”

You laughed, “Yeah… I’ll make it up to you by being nice to Steve for a whole day.”

He snorted, “wow, a whole day… that might kill you.”

You exaggeratedly nodded, “Honestly. He’s seriously the worst, soda.”

He boyishly smiled as he rolled off of you and stood up, grabbing his jeans and pulling them over his legs. He shoved his hands in each pocket to make them go in. He grabbed his plain black shirt and slid it over his shoulders and then head.

“I have to get home, Pony’s drivers test is in an hour and I’m the one to take him. He’ll for sure pass. I made sure of that. But tonight we will probably get cake to celebrate, the boys are all coming over. You’ll come, right?” He asked grabbing his hat and sliding it on his head.

“Wouldn’t miss it.”

He winked at you once and leaned over the bed to give you a quick peck, “see you soon, pretty lady.”

You blushed, “see ya soon, handsome.”

He smiled softly before walking out the door. You laid there in the bed in disbelief. Your dream was too real to not be true but at the same time you recalled meeting him in 2020 too.

Either way you were thankful that soda was in the present with you because it was honestly the best of both worlds.

A strong breeze hit the house and your window popped open. A small scrap of paper floated in and landed on your dresser. Your hands smoothed they paper before reading it.

“Sometimes reality changes for people who deserve it.”

The club had to make rash decision sometimes and tonight was one of them. It was the middle of the night and the club was hundreds of miles away from Charming. Quit literally in the middle of no where.

They all knew the risks they where getting themselves into tonight. They where going in blind into an Irish IRA gun supplier warehouse. Juice found out this where they where holding majority of stock before selling. The only issue was they didn’t know who the Irish been selling to and where the guns where coming from. Finding out who was selling the guns to the IRA was priority.

The sons took it upon themselves to find out. They needed a better grasp over the gun pipeline to get back to business. They sat back a little too long and the Irishmen got a little too greedy.

The warehouse almost seemed abounded from the outside. But Juice knew better. He can easily tell the high tech security system was out in to blend in.

“Juice and Tig through the back. There’s way too many guys here for just a gun warehouse.

“I think the Irish are hiding something more. Jax you will lead inside from the roof. Bobby please get those guards from the front distracted. Maybe lead them on a wild goose chase.” Clay explained as they huddled in the van.

Juice and Tig moved their way behind the warehouse. Getting the guns was up to the rest of the guys. They had to figure out the supply chain or what else the Irish might be hiding here.

“Where’s that security room?” Tig asked the younger son and Juice held his laptop in one arm trying to read the blueprints.

“I don’t know, but if I had to have a server room it’s be this office.” Juice whispered as the made their way down the hall.

“What the fuck is that?” Tig asked as they halted hiding around the corner watching down the hall.

“How am I suppose to know.” Juice sassed back. He didn’t understand how him and TIg always ended up working together.

“Must be important if there’s 4 guards.” Tig said pulling out his gun.

“Blue prints is showing it’s a mechanical room” Juice said before closing his laptop and slipping into his backpack. He got out his gun with the silencer as the crested down the hall.

“Shhhh” Tig whispered grabbing the hairs from the back and shooting him. Juice ducked down slipping to the door letting Tig take care of the rest.

“Shit it’s locked.” Juice mumbled before and he grabbed the guards head and slammed it against the wall.

“Well we have company, hurry up.” Tig warned and he grabbed the final guard checking his pockets for any key cards.

“This would be a good time to hurry up.” Tig warned as he caught off the new guards.

“I’m try I’m not a lock smith or shit.” Juice yelled as he messed with the door keypad.

“Fuck it.”he mumbled taking out his gun and shorting the handle off.

“Fuck man!” Tig yelled back.

“Get in!” Juice yelled slipping in. The room was dark. Juice slowly walked through noticing a huge glass like cage in the middle.

“What kind of shit is this.” He mumbled as Tig got in closing the door.

“Must be the bedroom. Some real kinky shit.” Tig said walking closer to the glass box.

“I think it’s a safe or vault.” Juice said walking closer to try and see what’s inside.

“Oh shit!” Juice yelled as a chair was thrown against the glass he was looking at.

“What the fuck is that?!” Tig yelled pointing his gun at the glass safe.

“It’s a girl?” Juice said confused as small figure walked out the shadow looking pissed. You hair was hanging low a little messy from being stuck here. There was a sheer layer of sweat over you and dried blood.

“Told you some real kinky shit.” Tig said smiling seeing you in the box. You where missing your clothes, just stripping in box short Calvin Klein panties with a matching sports bra.

You been stuck with the stupid Irishmen for 2 weeks would be your guess. They took you the last gun deal. Your gun deal. They wanted more guns then you where willing to provided for them. You started yelling at the men that just came in the room in Russian.

“That’s not Irish.” Juice mumbled still looking at you puzzled. He was still trying to figure out why the Irish had you looked up under guard at the guns wear house.

“She’s Russian.” Tig said tapping at the glass pissing you off even more. You weren’t who these idiots where but they may be your way out. You put up with the Irish to torture too long. They kept you feed enough to survive. They tortured you just enough to scream but you still didn’t break. You where too high of the food chain list to be stuck in here.

“Clay we have some Russian locked up here…she was guarded and in a cage thing…yeah women maybe 25…” Tig said over the phone.

“We’ll take her, use her for negotiation.” Clay said over the phone.

“Clay said we got to take her.” Tig told Juice as they studied the glass cage.

“You think it’s bullet proof?” Juice asked knocking on the glass.

“Well.” Tig mumbled pulling out his gun and shorting the glass only making it bounce out.

“Guess it is.” Juice mumbled as she studied the door. He took out his knife placing it at the key pad lock.

“The fuck you doing Juice?” Tig asked looking at him. He didn’t say anything before using the back of his gun and full force slamming it on the knife. The electrical grid let out a few sparkles before the door opened.

You panic you didn’t really think they’d open this stupid glass cage. You backed up slightly grabbed the metal bowl that was left for your dinner. You still weren’t sure if they’d be worse then the Irish. This is why you never left Europe.

“Come here doll” the taller one said as he stepped forward. Before you gave him a chance to grab you you swung the bowl full force at him.

“Shit!” He yelled stumbling back a little. You jumped past him running to the door. Juice quickly stepped in front eyeing you with a raised eyebrows. With his large body there was no way you could slip by him.

Out of know where you felt a large hand trap around your neck pulling you into a head lock. You looked tattooed man with a Mohawk with pleading eyes as you felt yourself slipping away. Your body fell limp to the ground.

“Shit Tig you kill her?” Juice asked rushing to your side on the floor.

“No Russian bitch needs a nap before she knocked both of us out. These little Russian are sneaky juicy boy.” Tig said before picking you up from the floor and throwing you over his shoulder.

The son bikers quickly made their way down the halls and out the exit. The van was already waiting for them.

“What’s this?” Chibs asked eyeing the half naked women.

“They had her locked up. I think it has something to die with the Russian gun pipeline. Don’t know what that got to do with the Irish.” Tig said as he threw her into the back of vans towards Juice. He quickly sat up slightly catching you so your head wouldn’t hit the floor.

“Good work brothers, now let’s go back to charming before They realize we where here.” Clay said as he went into another SUV.

“Make sure she stays sleep. She wakes up you knock her out.” Chibs told Juice before shutting the doors. Juice looked down at you not sure why everyone was so nervous. To him you looked so harmless. Another part of him tried to control his stupid male hormones from checkout your half naked body.

To him you looked so small and fragile. Your plumped body had bruises and dried blood but he could still she how beautiful you where. You didn’t look like a threat to him. A part of him wanted to wrap you up and protect you but he quickly pushed that aside for the club.

But then again he never had to face the Russian mafia.

@woahcurtishey ! i really liked that soda x singer head cannons… could you do an imagine of it? :0

really sorry if this seems rushed! i just wanted to get your request done since you’ve been waiting for a little over three weeks…aaah so sorry i just have a ton of requests i’m trying to knock out, but i hope you enjoy it. super fun to write xx

those who wish to sing always find a song. this was a quote you have lived by since you were a little girl. as the years blew past the one thing you never grew out of was your passion for music and singing. growing up in a musical family allowed you to be more in tune with your hobby. your parents were so supportive and encouraged you to keep going after your dream and to sing your heart out whenever you can. soda was probably your biggest fan - besides your parents and family of course.

he was there for every performance, every song. the loudest to cheer and the last one to leave. you couldn’t thank him enough for all the love he gives you. every night after your shows he surprises with with a bouquet of flowers, which warms your heart.

“they’re beautiful,” you bring them up to your nose. “and smell amazing!”

“i knew you’d like them,” sodapop blushes.

as you’re leaving the bar you can’t help but notice the tons of smiling faces and clapping people looking in your direction. the adoration feels so unreal. even if tulsa is somewhat small it still feels like millions. every performance feeling a little better then the last.

“so i was thinking…” soda trails opening the door for you, “we should celebrate.”

“celebrate what?”

“your musical success!”

you laugh. “i’m not that successful, yet.”

“in my eyes you are,” soda gushes. “always will be.”

you can’t help but feel a sudden flutter in your heart. sodapop was one of the many reasons why you never gave up on your dream. his support means everything to you, and most of your songs are written or partially inspired by your relationship.

“but anyway back to celebrating, i have a surprise!” he grabs your hand dragging you to the car.

“soda slow down!” you shriek.

“oop sorry babe.”

as you’re driving to this super secret location you wonder where he could be taking you at this hour. i mean it’s almost midnight to no other places are open besides a few bars. as your mind wonders you hum a few notes to yourself, the relaxing drive inspires a melody. you can feel soda glancing over at you every now and then, he has always loved watching you in your element. how passionately you sing the notes, the thought you put into every lyric. soda wishes he could feel that same passion.

before you can ask how much longer he puts the car in park, you look around confused as to why he drove you into the city. you look over at him, waiting for him to explain further, but he’s just staring at you.

“uh sodapop…where are we?”

“okay look,” he sighs running his long fingers through his hair, “promise me you won’t get upset.”

“okay? why would i get upset? where are we?” you ask a bit panicked.

“i’ve been makin calls all day. and i think i finally got you a interview with a very well known music producer, he also manages his clients,” he explains.

you can tell by the ways he’s looking at you that he’s trying to read your emotions. but your poker face is to good, which makes him even more nervous.

“i-wow i don’t know what to say.”

“are you mad? i mean i never meant to go behind your back but y/n you’re a star, you deserve to be heard my everyone i wanted to try and help you get a bit further but if i made you ang-”

“SODA!” you cut him off. “i’m not mad.”

“oh thank god,” he leans back relieved.

“just nervous as hell, how did you get him to meet with me? or even see me this late?”

“it’s long story, let’s save that for later. right now you have a meeting to get to!”

soda hops out of the car, rushing around to open the passenger side door for you. when you’re finally out he gets into the back seats grabbing your acoustic guitar before you make your way into the huge building. your nerves are through the roof as you look at the massive structure in front of you.

“you’re going to be amazing, like always,” soda squeezes your hand lightly. “knock em dead.”

you slowly walk up to the front desk where a older lady sits scrolling through a computer screen. she greets you with a smile.

“what can i do for you?”

“i uh have a meeting with your music producer..”

“andrew starks,” soda adds.

she nods and pushes a clipboard towards you. it’s full of different names and signatures.

“just sign in and mr. starks will see you shortly.”

you sign your name as neatly as you can, grateful for your school for teaching you cursive.

“today might be the start of everything,” you look behind you where soda stands.

he smiles brightly at you, tears welling in his eyes.

how they comfort you when you’re stressed out

// ,

— can you do an outsiders reaction where the reader has too much on their plate (work, school, etc.) and their SO asks them if they’re ok and the reader just bursts out crying from stress?

i did add a couple different sceneries! because i didn’t want to write the same thing for each of them, but it all has the same feel to it!! xx

your boss decided to call you into work last minute. it’s only been a few hours since you returned home. which means you haven’t even gotten enough sleep to feel replenished. you wished so badly to tell him no, but he’s extremely hard headed and strict. especially towards the woman that work for him. and, you know you could use the extra money, as you’re putting on your uniform you can’t help but feel a sense of tiredness, it’s so overwhelming it makes you start to feel weak at the knees. you immediately call out for darry.

“what’s wrong y/n?” he asks worriedly.

“i-i’m just so tired,” you cry out. “i feel like my boss never wants me to have a break.”

you sit in the chair that rests in front of your vanity. you’ve never felt this exhausted in your entire life. darry takes notice at your weakened state, he hates to see you so worn out. it’s not normal for you to lack energy, you’re the most bubbly person he knows.

“okay, lets lay you down,” darry slides his arms under your legs and carries you over to your shared bed. you’re more than capable of walking yourself, but you don’t complain.

“just take a nap and rest awhile you need it more than anyone.”

“no,” you struggle to escape his strong hold. “i can’t i have to go to work.”

“not today, you’re not goin’ in i don’t care if i have to go talk to your boss myself,” he pulls the blanket over you tucking you in warmly. “rest now.”

“thank you, darry.”

you’ve been working towards your masters degree in psychology for the past two years. you’re so close to being done but it’s so much work and the assignment you were just assigned is crazy difficult and time consuming, you try to push yourself to get more done before bed, but eventually your hands start to cramp from the all the typing, your muscles ache from the hours of sitting at your desk. soda comes into your room when he gets home from work. he’s immediately concerned when he sees you hunched over with your head in your hands.

“y/n…” he questions. “you alright?”

it doesn’t take much for you to break. all the stress finally came piling down on you.

“hey,” soda kneels down lifting your chin so he can see your face. “relax.”

“there’s so much pressures on me,” you vent. “this assignment is impossible.”

“nothing’s impossible for you,” he reassures. “you can do anything. i just think you need a break.”

“yeah i definitely do, will you lay with me for awhile?”

“of course i will,” he smiles shyly.

you anxiously walked up the tall stairs into your HS, today was the day of your history presentation. this is what you’ve been dreading for the past week. public speaking wasn’t at all something you were comfortable with or liked doing, and it doesn’t help that you aren’t friends with anyone in your class, well besides ponyboy. he’s the only one you speak to.

you meet him in the hallway, putting your book bag and unneeded things in your locker. ponyboy noticed your hands shaking as you closed the door.

“you scared about this whole history thing huh?”

“uh- a little,” you shrug trying to hide your nerves.

“you’ll be fine,” he tries to reassure you.

but before you can walk away you can already feel the familiar stinging sensation starting to build up in your eyes, your heart rate accelerates, you feel like you’re drowning and can’t reach the surface.

“i can’t breathe,” you say as sheer panic overtakes your body.

pony’s face softenes. he grabs your hand dropping his books, taking you into the nearest closet.

“shh just look at me okay?”

you nod focusing all your attention on him. he runs his fingers through your hair while wiping a few tears away from your eyes. you take slow steady breathes. this isn’t the first time he’s had to help you get over a panic attack. once your breathing gets back to normal again, you feel like you’re finally ready to go to class.

“okay,” you breathe. “let’s go.”

“ uh we’re gonna need a late pass… unless you want to spend the end of the day in detention.”

you look down at your watch noticing you’re about six minutes late to history.

“damn it!”

it’s been a busy night at the movie theater. you’ve tried your best to fill everyone’s orders while also working the cash register. your boss previously complained about how many workers there are on each shift so he cut back. sadly this leaves you to try and get so many things done at once. the stress of it all is starting to really affect you, but you can’t quit. you need this job more than anything right now so you can afford to get books for school.

even though your boss a jerk you do somewhat like this job, you’re a people person so seeing familiar faces every week puts you in a good mood, but every now and then you’ll get a disrespectful customer. this time it was a group of boys, you recognize some of them from the college you attend.

“what shit movies are playing tonight?” one of them asks while skimming through the candy.

“can you read? look at the boards outside..” you try your best to keep your cool.

“i don’t think you employees are allowed to talk to us paying clients like that,” his demeanor quickly shifts.

“hey we gotta problem here,” you hear a voice from behind the guys. knowing immediately who it is.

they quickly scurry off, as dallas pushes himself to the front of the line.

“you okay doll?”

“i am now,” you say softly as you wipe just a single tear from your cheek. you didn’t really care about the boys but it never feels good to be embarrassed at your place of work.

“don’t let those jerk offs make you cry.”

you nod and sneak in a quick kiss before dal leaves.

“why can’t he do it this time! i’m going to be late!” you argue. your parents have asked you to clean the house again for the third time this week, and you normally don’t have a problem with helping out but your brother has been sitting in his room playing video games all day and you need to be somewhere. you feel like they always pick you at the most inconvenient times, and the worst part is johnny is waiting for you outside, you’d hate to make him wait.

“your brother is sick and slow! it would take him an hour to even sweep the kitchen,” you mom says as she puts her coat on.

“he’s not sick! he’s playing video games!”

“do it y/n! or you and johnny won’t be going anywhere tonight,” you dad warns as he slams the door behind him leaving you in a mess.

WHATEVER!”

you collapse on the couch, breaking out into a full on crying fit. it feels like your parents are punishing you. johnny must have heard your cries from the front porch because without knocking he opens the front door, approaching you slowly.

“hey you okay?” his asks trying to help but this only makes it worse.

your cries get louder and johnny is completely stunned. he’s never seen you this emotional. you’re almost positive he’s going to think your absolutely insane after tonight.

“my parents hate me!” you say dramatically.

“i don’t think that’s true.”

“they are always making me clean things or do everyone’s chores,” you sigh. “we can’t leave until i sweep and mop all the floors.”

“well i’ll help ya,” johnny offers.

“really?!”

“yeah, but we better get started…” he pulls you up from the couch bringing his jacket sleeve up to your eyes so he wipe your tears away.

-

“i get that ma’am but i don’t have the receipt.”

“then i’m sorry hun…we can’t exchange it.”

you were trying to get a new shirt for two-bit. the one that you previously ordered had came in to small. but since you ordered it off the store website you didn’t have a paper receipt, and your order wasn’t showing up on their computers, which made you frustrated.

“so there’s no way i can get a new one? or even just get my money back?” you question.

“i’m sorry,” the cashier shakes her head obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

you don’t respond, instead you leave the shirt on the counter and walk out. it might not be a huge deal for some people but you didn’t have a lot of money. and you were out 25$, with nothing to show for it. when you get home two-bit is lazily slumped over the arm rest of the couch, drinking a beer.

“hey baby where’d you sneak off to?”

“the clothing store down town…”

“what’s up? you seem upset?” he asks lifting himself up from the couch.

your shoulders slump down as you bring your heads up to cover your face.

“wow wow don’t cry! sorry for askin.”

“no it’s not that,” you tell him. “they wouldn’t let me exchange your shirt today.”

“and that’s what you’re cryin over?” two-bit laughs wrapping his arms around your frame. “it’s fine.”

“i just wanted you to have something special.”

“you’re all i need y/n.”

steve had decided last minute to stop and get gas at the DX before the two of you finish your date. this annoyed you a little since you tell him every morning to just fill up while he’s at work, i mean makes sense right? but with his forgetful nature it’s hard to keep him on track with things. when you pull into the gas station it’s pretty empty, only one car parked along the gas lineup. steve steps out to pump and you go into the store to pay. when you walk in you’re met with a very rude and arrogant man who pushes you aside so he can be helped first at the register.

“excuse you sir?” you’re taken aback. “i was in line first.”

he laughs not offering you a response. the lady working the register meets your gaze and mouths “i’m sorry” in your direction. she must not be a very confrontational person, which you understood.

“i’m only paying for gas it won’t take long,” you add hoping the man will let you go since steve is waiting outside in the freezing weather.

“not my problem, you got somewhere to be?”

“actually yes, i do.”

“dressed like that?” the man scoffs. laughing as he scans up and down your body.

you might not have name brand clothes like him, but they weren’t dirty or disgusting looking. as he hands the lady his credit card to pay you can’t help but hang onto his cruel insult. right before you’re about to storm out the doors, steve runs right into you, latching on tightly to both sides of your arms. you lean your head into his chest.

“hey what’s goin’ on?”

you wrap your arms around his waist, crying softly as you reply the mans insult over in your mind.

“that man he-he was being a complete jerk!”

“what did he do?! huh did he hurt you!” steve becomes more aggressive.

you shake your head.

he takes out a handkerchief from his pocket and wipes your eyes gently, while also trying not to smear your eye makeup. you laugh at his sweet gesture.

“you’re the best,” you lift onto your tiptoes placing a small kiss on his forehead.

“i know,” he smirks. “now let’s go outside before that jackass leaves i wanna give him a piece of my mind.”

Pt.1Pt. 2

Requested by: @maddieb97222

Fandom: The outsiders

Relationship: Gang X Curtis! Sister

Prompt: Can you please do a second embarrassing brother where the reader and Michael are now dating he and he comes over for dinner and it just gets more embarrassing + a lot of fluff sorry for bothering you, I just really love your writing!

word count: 2.1k

Somehow, some way your crazy boys managed to not scare off Michael. By the end of the school year you were the talk of the school. A greaser and a soc dating was like something out of a book, hardly ever seen in real life. But, no one dared to question when they saw you two kiss each other on the field. Michael didn’t care and that’s what mattered, if anything he enjoys his leather jacket wearing girl. His parents didn’t know fully who you were, and that was your idea. Michael and his sister helped camouflage you. For one night you looked like the people you despised.

You weren’t angry with him about it. You knew he wasn’t ashamed of you and it was a precaution to keep the relationship going. At your house you two could do as you please. Today was one of your weekly gang dinners and for the first time Michael would be tagging along. Sure, he had been around the gang before and had even had dinner with your brothers. But this, this was different. The boys were known to get piss-drunk, fight and yell. They would run outside doing flips and screaming, even Darry joined in. This wasn’t just dinner.

This was a party in true greaser fashion.

And somehow Michael managed to invite himself and well- you couldn’t really oppose it without causing a fight in your amazing relationship. He was so kind and understanding the least you could do is swallow your pride and let him see this part of you.

Everything was going great you were just waiting on Dally and Darry. The boys surrounded the tv and you sat on the couch your head in Pony’s lap as you were both reading, listening for the timer to go off in the kitchen. You had made a simple lasagna, something you knew all the boys would eat. You sat up as you heard heavy footsteps coming from Darry’s work boots. You walked over and quietly opened the screen door.

“Thanks, baby,” he whispered as he kissed your head. You both walked into the living room as all the boys waved hi.

“Dar” you said quietly, “I know you desperately need to sit but, if you could please shower first- I’d greatly appreciate it.”

“What do I really smell that bad today?” Dar said with a knowing smirk.

“Aw, don’t take it personally, Superman” Two piped up turning away from the small screen for the first time in the past two hours. “Her boyfriend’s coming tonight so she’s got a stick up her ass” You gasped as you leaned over to smack him across the back of the head.
“I do not have a damn stick up my ass.”

“Language, Y/N” Darry said sternly. “I’ll head in there now, do you need me to make dinner too?” You shake your head as you slowly pushed him towards the bathroom door “alright, alright- baby, I get it, I’m goin’ ”

Soon after the timer went off and you went into the kitchen to finish up dinner there was a light knock at the door. Before you could even speak the boys all raced to the door and crowded a very nervous Michael Adderson. The chatter got louder and louder as you raced out of the kitchen.

“Guys please get away from him”

“Aww baby we’re just messing with him.” Soda smiled at you “It’s my job as a big brother.”

“Well now your job is to take the boys inside and set up for dinner, big brother” Soda rolled his eyes as all the boys hollered with laughter.

“Hi, darling,” Michael whispered holding out the bouquet he was clutching. “These are for you.”

“Oh, wow,” you slowly took them from his hands. “I- um-”  No one had given you flowers since your father was alive.

“Oh man, did I do something wrong?”

“No, no why would you think that?”

“You’re crying,” He stepped closer to you wiping away the tears that had run down without your notice.

“No, I’m okay. It’s just the last person to buy me flowers was my father.” Michael nodded staying silent as he pulled you into a hug. He placed a kiss on the top of your head as you slowly pulled away from each other.

“C’mon, I got to put these in water and we are just waiting on Dally.”

The boys were already seated in the living room awaiting your cue to finally eat. Another hour had gone by and you shifted from your spot on the couch next to Michael.

“Do you guys know where Dal is?”

“Haven’t heard from him today, baby” Soda said

“None of you have?” The boys all yelled out no, their eyes fixated on various readings and the episode of Mickey that danced across the screen.

“I’m gonna call Buck’s and maybe he knows where he is,” You turned and kissed Michael’s cheek before heading into the kitchen.  You sighed and leaned against the wall anxiously awaiting Buck’s answer.

“Yeah?” The sounds of the party roared through the phone.

“Buck?”

“Who’s asking?”

“Y/N curtis, Look Buck, is Dal with you?”

“Uh yeah he just went up stairs to get some sleep.”

“Can you please get him for me?” You heard a groan and the slap of the phone hitting the table. A few moments later you heard Dals voice on the other end.

“Dallas Winston.”

“What, Baby?”

“Where the hell are you?”

“Buck’s, you know that-”

“Dal, what day is it?

“What the hell are you on?”

“What day is it Dallas?”

“Shit-”

“Mhmm”

“I-”

“Just get your ass over here now.” You slammed the phone on the receiver and headed back out into  the living room.

“He comin’?” Soda asked turning away from the tv. You glare at him and walk back over to Michael.

“What to you think,” you sneered “he fucking forgot”

“Ooo Baby Curtis used a naughty word” Two-Bits cackled You reached behind your back taking the pillow off the couch and whipping at his. As it smacked him in the head he let out a groan. None of the boys tried to even speak and they all turned back to the tv as you felt Michaels hand snake around and lay on your back. Your face begins to grow hot as you realize what you just did in front of him.

“Baby, you need to breathe” Michael whispered in your ear

“Sorry” You whispered back leaning into his embrace.

The shower finally shut off, it had gone on for so long that none of you had remembered that Darry was in there, until he emerged in just an old green towel.

“Ay-o Superman, Did you forget your clothes?” Two-Bit screeched with laughter causing everyone’s attention to go towards the eldest brother.

“Shut Up, Two, I just need to grab my calendar.” He shuffled over to his bag that was left by the door and grabbed his little book that contained your whole life for the next year. Yet, with every single footstep you didn’t think you would make it that long. “Hi, Michael,” He moved closer towards you, still gripping the towel tightly as possible to avoid one of the boys tricks.

“Hi, Darry,” Michael reached out his hand for Darry to shake while you leaned closer to the 5 boys sitting on the floor, though you weren’t really directing it towards Johnny and Pony.

“Pull his towel and I swear to god, you will never get another girl in this town again”

“Y/N” Soda reached out to grab your hand “Come with me” You nodded standing up with him, leaving Michael chatting with Darry who still has yet to return to get clothes.

“Dar-” you started gaining his attention “please” Darry looked confused for a second before realizing what you meant and excusing himself.

You tightly held Soda’s hand as he led you to your room. Shutting the door behind you. Darry’s bedroom is next door so you quietly listened to make sure he actually was in there and not talking to your boyfriend while moving one hand could reveal all. You sat at your vanity to check out your hair while Soda leaned against the wall.

“Baby, you need to breathe.”

“I am breathing, Soda, that’s how you stay alive.” You stared at him through the mirror a smirk unfurling from your lips.

“You know that’s not what I meant” You sigh, turning towards him. You fill your eyes start to fill with tears as your throat burns.

“I’m really trying, Soda.”

“Oh, baby we all know you are.” He walked closer to you and wrapped you up in his arms as the tears began to fall.  You sat there for a bit unable to get the words to form in your mouth. But, Soda didn’t judge he never did, instead he just sat with you, stroking your hair like the lost little girl you felt like.

“Cmon baby, dry those tears, you can’t have your boy seeing you like this.” You chuckled at his words as you rubbed your face attempting to be careful of the slight makeup that adorned it.

“Y/N” Pony yelled barging into the room. You turned towards him ready to yell but the look on his face changed your tune. His wide eyed glance and heavy breaths proved to you that it was more than just his impatience. “It’s Dally.”

You quickly followed him into the living room where Dally was laying on the couch, the boys all surrounding them, including Michael.

“What are you all just standing there for?” You croaked, attempting to keep the emotions at bay. You moved closer to Dal, the boys moving out of the way. It wasn’t too bad a few cuts and a black eye, from the way he was tightly clutching his chest possible bruising. “Soda get some face cloths wet and dry, Pony get some new clothes, Johnny get me the first aid kit, Michael can you go find me a hair elastic, Two get some water, and Darry and Steve, help him sit up so we can get this shirt off of him.” The boys all nodded and ran to their respective spots in the house.

“You know baby, if you wanted to see me naked this bad all you had to do was ask.” He divulged.

“Shut up, Dal.” You quickly turned taking the hair elastic from Michael and throwing your hair in a terribly messy ponytail as Darry and Steve lifted him up. You tried to focus on your hair going through the scrunchie avoiding Dally’s grunts of pain. You turned back towards the boys and straddled Dal’s legs to hold him in place and lessen his movements as the boys slowly peeled his shirt off.

“Oh man, not in front of your brother, Y/N” You let out a loud laugh looking down at Dal and seeing him crack a small smirk.

“You’re disturbing-”

“And you love it.”

“Mhmmm sure.”

You took the first aid kit from Johnny giving him a kiss on the cheek and a soft “thank you.” You then wrapped up his chest hoping you guys could avoid a hospital visit. The boys laid Dally back down and you organized the supplies. It took about 20 minutes of soothing words and careful actions before his cuts were finally clean and you guys could get back to life.

“What happened Dal?”

“Ran into Shepard,” You sighed.

“Don’t scold me.”

“I’m not scolding you,”

“That sigh tells me other wise.”

“I’m not gonna scold you, Dal, I just helped you, now i suggest you stop.” You cautioned, giving a softer glare.

“Dinner?” Steve suggested

“Don’t look at me,” you laughed, “I cooked.”

The boys let out a laugh and  headed into the kitchen to serve themselves. You stood up and plopped on the couch next to Dal.

“You’re welcome for saving your ass.” Dal scoffed at you rolling his eyes and attempting to hide the smirk that was forming on his lips.

“Whatever floats your boat,baby”

“That was badass,” Michael gasped, you didn’t notice that he was still standing there and you felt your cheeks begin to heat up.

“Thanks,” You stood up off the couch and moved closer to him. “I’m sorry for all the craziness.”

“Are you kidding? In my house it would’ve just been talks of football and the latest golden boy.”

“So you’re enjoying yourself?” You wrapped your arms around his neck pulling him closer to your chest.

“Immensely” You both leaned forward, lips meeting in the middle. You started to move your hands to his grease free curls. He smiled into the kiss and pressed harder.

Suddenly a wolf whistle sounded throughout the room and Two-bits annoying cackle followed causing the two of you to pull apart.

“Shame, shame” Ponyboy laughed

“I know your name.” Two-Bits screeched. You turned towards Michael kissed him on the cheek before turning back to the boys. They stared back at you like the cowboys in those movies Pony likes. You smiled at them and started running in their direction, and they smartly ran out the door. All of you hootin and hollerin as you did gymnastic trick Darry had taught you when you were younger. Soon you all fell to the ground laughing.

As embarrassing as they are you wouldnt change your gang of brothers for the world.

I was watching from the window of the kitchen as a police car rolled up. Soda was at the table finishing his homework. Darry was in the shower and Ponyboy was in the family room with Dally and Johnny.  I heard a knock at the door as the shower shut off.  I thought it was going to be a policeman bringing Two-Bit but it wasn’t. Three policemen stood at my door with solemn looks on their face. They told me they were looking for Darry and I welcomed them inside as they waited. The gang gathered in the kitchen as Darry spoke with the policemen. I hit the floor…. My parents are dead.

I woke up with a scream, tears were running down my face. Within seconds I heard the creaky door whip open and the comfort of Darry’s arms around my chest. He tightly held me as I thrashed and kicked, “THEY CAN’T BE DEAD!” I screamed over and over again. There was nothing Darry could do other than attempt to quiet me to avoid waking my brothers.

“Sh,” he spoke lightly squeezing me tighter to his chest. “baby, you need to snap out of it.” Soda and Pony ran into the room slamming into the door with wide eyes. This wasn’t the first night this had happened and I pray every night for it to be the last. But, to no success and no sign of a way to calm the nightmare, this was life. If it wasn’t me, it was Pony but, when it comes down to it though I’m living in hell I’d rather be the one to brace it than my brothers.

“I-I’m sorry g-guys..” I whispered, my voice hoarse from the screaming.

“It’s okay baby girl, everything is okay” Darry whispered as he looked up at my brothers. “She will be fine, get back in bed.”

“Em-” Pony started, I gazed up at him forcing a smile. He was our worrier and as he was he baby the important thing was for us to  This had become a routine since mom and dad died in the car accident almost a year ago. Darry is the only one who can calm me down out of my brothers, but Dally has become accustomed to waking me from my nightmares as well. Dally isn’t as bad as everyone thinks, he just doesn’t understand love. Though all excuses aside without us, he’d be  hood. All the boys treat me like their little sister and are all extremely protective of me.

Darry slowly laid back still clutching on to me, I nuzzled my face into his chest.

He smells like dad…

I listened to the sounds of Darry’s slowing breath as he fell back to sleep for the last few moments before sunrise, his chest rising and falling under my head. The sounds of shower turning on and then back off 15 minutes later and the soft patter of  Soda’s feet as he walked back into his room. I heard the grumbles of Pony as he dragged himself into the bathroom, accompanied by his careless, tired stomps. Then came Darry’s sudden and stiff movements as he woke up from his cat nap.

“I’d love to stay with you longer, but I have to get to my job.” He slowly slid out of the bed and stood on the side, “how are you feelin’ now kiddo?” I slowly pushed myself up, my head still spinning as if my body had gone into shock, again.

“Numb,” I whispered.

“Are you going to try to go to school?” I shook my head, I wasn’t in the right mindset. I’ve had the dream of the day mom and day died for months. Every time I do something bad happens. The last time I had the dream was the day before Johnny and I got beat up by the Socs. Darry nodded understandingly, he placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before walking into the kitchen.

I took my time to regain my composure before following. The whole gang sat around the table, their usual banter almost nonexistent as I slowly made my way toward the kitchen. I stopped hearing Darry’s stern voice controlling the room. “Dal, I need you to stay here,”

“Nah Dar, I got business to attend to.”

“And that business is here Dallas, Emmie had the dream again and someone needs to stay with her.”

“Dar-” silence I knew that meant the dad glare had come into play, guess Dallas is my babysitter for the day. I chose this moment to make my entrance. Various “hey Em” and “morning Em” came from the chatty boys. I made my rounds with hugs to everyone except for Dallas and Soda’s girl Sandy - we aint on the greatest of terms. We just aint the gettin along type.  She came by in the mornings every so often, only speakin to Soda and here and there to my brothers..I went over to the stove to grab some breakfast all that was left was a single blue pancake. I looked back to the table and everyone held a full plate including Sandy - who was just picking at her plate and moving it around with her fork to avoid the conversations at hand. I placed the ceramic plate back on the shelf and turned to the food cabinet. I guess I am stuck with cereal this morning. I sat down in between Dally and Two-bits and tuned out the latest gossip from the DX

“Was anyone on the couch last night?” I whispered to Two-bits. He nodded still listening to Steve’s rambling about a Soc girl that wore a shirt that showed “everything and I mean everything.”

“I was.” I looked at him with guilt and he gave me a small smile.

“I’m sorry Two” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I leaned against his chest as I ate my cereal.

“No worries Emmy-Lee” he whispered before placing a kiss on my head, despite his never ending immaturity, he was the one to turn to in tough situations.

“Are you going out tonight, Soda?” I asked through a mouthful of cereal, just to piss off Sandy who scowled at me.

“Yeah, Stevie and I are taking Sandy and Evie to the Dingo tonight. It’s Rocks Your Socks Off Night.”

“And I got Johnny and Pony tonight,” Dally pitched in “We are going to the drive-in, Em.” Two pushed on my shoulder telling me to lean forward allowing him to grab a beer from the fridge.

“What to do something dangerous?”

“Nah, watch a movie, pick up a broad or two” He smirked and wink high-fiving Two-Bits. I glared at both of them with disgust.

“ I think i’ll stay here, Dal, I have a ton of homework to get done”

“alright kiddo,” Darry started placing his hand on my back. “You need to rest baby, only out for emergencies. I left the number for my work site-”

“Darry I’m gonna be fine,”

“I know baby I’m just nervous, maybe I outta stay how.”

“Go!” I laughed “I’m fine” Dar paused before nodding and kissing my head. He gathered his stuff and headed to work.

“I’ll be around later Em,” Two started, “Let’s go Pony, Steve”

“See ya Two, and uh, maybe actually go to class. You know that’s what school is for.”

“Don’t poke fun Emmy-Lee”

Everyone chimed in with goodbyes and soon everyone else followed leaving me with my thoughts and Dally.

“You know you don’t have to stay here” I flicked on the tv and settled in Darry’s recliner.

“I know that, I have no rules” He stood in the doorway, with slouching posture and a hand above his head attempting to appear tuff. He slowly placed a weed in his mouth and attempted to light it.

“Actually you have one.” I replied standing up from the comfort of the old recliner and walked toward the bleach blonde boy.

“ oh yeah?” I nodded and removed the unlight ciggie from his mouth.

“Don’t smoke in my house.”  I threw it on the floor and returned back to the chair.

“You know what, I don’t have to stay here.”

“and , no one’s stopping you Dally-boy.” I heard the heavy stomp of his work boots and the loud smack of our soon to be broken screen door.

My world turned upside down a long time ago but it feels like it will never be the same again. It’s like ever since mom and dad died everything has been going downhill. Being a greaser has gotten tougher especially being a greaser girl. Soc boys doing everything they can to take advantage of you.You’re always living with fear that something bad is going to happen and typically it does. It’s rare that you’d find an optimist on this side of town and life don’t make it that easy. Life as a greaser has always been reckless and interesting. You never know what’s bound to happen on the streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Yells and the pounding of feet echoed through the house as the front door slammed. My blue eyes searched the room for a hair tie as I jumped off the bed. I raced toward the front room swinging open the bedroom door. When I got to the front room it was empty, I could hear faint yells coming from down the street.

“What the hell,” I whispered, my mind was racing, sorting through all of the possibilities. What made them run like that, it was a good day. I threw open the front door and raced down the street only to catch a glimpse of a blue mustang drive away. Socs, should’ve known, they’re usually causing more ruckus than us, though greasers are probably the wildest of the two. We don’t go around jumping Socs. The Socs get articles for being disgraces one day and the next they are the best things to happen to this damn society, that’s how this city works.

I felt like I had stopped breathing. I froze in front of my brothers as they comforted poor Ponyboy. Blood was running down his chest from the multiple cuts on his neck from the switchblade. I took a deep breath, swallowing my fear as I moved forward.

“What the hell happened,” I yelled.

“Socs,” Darry spat

I cursed under my breath, another attack, when will this end? “Ponyboy,” I softly whispered as I crouched in front of him. “Are you okay?”

“Em.” He choked out as he hugged me with all his strength.

“I’m right here Pony.” I wrapped his body in my arms as it began to shake with sobs. I just stood there with him rubbing his back. I pressed a kiss to his head and held him tighter to my body. “Let’s get you home.” He nodded into my chest before pulling away and grabbing my hand. I smiled at my brother and gave his hand a squeeze of reassurance as we began our walk home, the gang trailing behind. He’s just a kid, though he’d never admit it due to the fact he’s 14 now. But Ponyboy is different, he’s a huge dreamer and digs movies and books in a special way. A way that only a few of us understand. He realizes the good in the world, he sees the beauty in everything he looks at and has been this way since he was a kid. Sometimes that gets him in trouble, he’s too sweet for his own good. Don’t get me wrong though he can get mean in a rumble, every grease can. You have to growing up on our side of town.

Darry is the oldest of us all, he’s named after dad. We call him Superman, sometimes, due to his giant muscles and his incredible mind. He had a great scholarship to great college, but he gave it up to be the guardian of my brothers and me after Mom and Dad were killed in an automobile accident over a year ago. He has blue-green eyes that have become like ice since he took on that roofing job. He is real smart, book smart and street smart. He seems to know everything, he doesn’t really fit in with the greasers but we are the only things that kept him away from the socs. He is a real looker, all of my brothers are in their own ways. Pony with his boyish charm and adorable grin, Darry with his bruting muscles and mysterious eyes, and Sodapop with his movie star looks.

Sodapop, my twin brother, is a different kind of handsome, he’s the kind you see on the big screen at the drive-in each night. He’s a little bit shorter than Darry but still a good height. Soda’s muscle build is slimmer than Darry but not as slim as Pony. He has this golden blonde hair that makes him look like a greek god. He has Dad’s eyes, dark brown and full of emotion. Soda can go from being wild and reckless to the kindest and most caring person I know, Soda is special that way. He dropped out of school a little after our parents died and he now works full time at the DX. He only smokes when he’s stressed and never drinks, while Pony smokes almost a pack a day and Darry won’t even go near them.

“Pony, everything is okay,” I told him as I wiped the tears from his face.

“I know I’m just a little spooked that’s all.” I nodded and smiled softly.

“They got away those dirty fu-”

“KEITH!” I yelled before he could finish that sentence. Two-Bit as you can tell, has an extremely colorful vocabulary. Keith “Two-Bits” Matthews is the second oldest of our little family. He is eighteen and a half but he’s still in the eleventh grade - with me. Two-bits never stops talking he’s the king of interrupting, that’s why we call him Two-Bits. He’s the funny guy of our gang everything becomes a joke to him. He knows how to make you smile in the darkest of times.

“What are you doing walking alone kid,” Steve questioned as he held his nose.

“Butt out Steve and leave him be” I warned and glared at him, but finally he gave up and walked over to Soda.

Steve Randle just turned 17 and he has been best friends with Sodapop and I since we were in grade school. Sometimes his anger gets too out of hand. Though I’m the only one who can get through to him and the rest of the boys. They all confide in me. Steve has a messed-up home situation, his father is a drunk and kicks him out of the house at least once a week. Then the next day gives him money to try and make up for it. Steve comes to our house to hide out. He’ll sleep on the couch but usually, he comes into my room and we talk all night long. He lays with his head in my lap as I run my fingers through his hair. He will rant and cry about anything and everything that is on his mind. One of Steve’s greatest talents is fixing cars. He can replace a hubcap quicker and quieter than any man in all of Tulsa. He wants to be more than that, though, he wants to prove to everyone he isn’t just a mechanic.

The most dangerous of our gang is Dallas Winston. He has a rap sheet longer than the Declaration of Independence (trust me I’ve read both) and he is extremely proud of it. He has platinum blonde hair and cold ice blue eyes. He didn’t grease nor cut his hair causing it to line his face. Dally’s face is an elfish face, he has high cheekbones and a pointed chin. Dally has a heart of stone, the meanest of our entire gang. The first time Dally got arrested he was 10 years old. He spent a total of three years out in New York with the toughest gangs you will ever see. Dally was closer to a hood than a greaser, he’s wild. Dally would be classed with the downtown gangs if it wasn’t for us. Dally has been worse since my parents died, they kept him fed and out of trouble. They were the closest thing he ever had to real parents. I think he took it the worse out of all the boys when he found out he ran. I chased him all the way to the gas station, but it was too late. The cops caught him stealing and he was jailed. Now the gang is the only thing he has left in this crooked world.

Then there’s Johnny Cade, The second youngest though he is treated more like a kid than Pony. Johnny’s parents are abusive drunks, his father beats him and his mother pretends he isn’t even there. There have been many sleepless nights where I’ve cleaned the wounds of his most recent beatings and held him as he cried. I couldn’t understand how two people couldn’t love one of the sweetest boys in this world.Johnny got jumped a few weeks back by some socs. I had left Johnny in the park to go get some drinks and food from the house and When I got back the socs were leaning over his body. I screamed out and ran towards them. That’s when one of them turned and grabbed me. He pinned me to the ground to keep me from getting to Johnny. I recognized the boy from school and I could tell he knew me too. He was holding my arms and had his legs on both sides of my hips.I don’t remember much else, all I know is Dallas was the one who saved us.

“You don’t ever think,” Darry began “ not anywhere it counts. With all of those good grades, you still don’t use your head. You should have at least had your blade.”

“Aw Darry lay off him. Carrying a blade would have given the socs an excuse to cut him off more.” Soda yelled he always sticks up for Pony but one of these times it’s going to get him in trouble.

“If I want my kid-brother to tell me what to do with my other kid-brother I’d ask kid brother-”

*

I walked to the door to find Pony. “Ponyboy come on inside. Johnny, Dally you staying for dinner?”

“Nah, I’m headin’ to Bucks” Dally yells as he walks out the gate

“See ya, Dal.” I yelled out waving “Johnny?”

“No, I’m all set. Thanks for the offer, though!” Johnny smiled

“Johnny I don’t want you out in that cold tonight. Make sure you come here.” He nodded and walked off. As I opened the door to let Pony in a gust of wind blew past my face.

*

“Ponyboy Michael sit still!” I couldn’t deal with this boy. Every move I made to clean this wound, he would squirm on the couch. “Pony I have to clean it!”

“It stings Em,” Ponyboy whined

“It’s going to sting more if you don’t sit still.” After 5 minutes of struggling and Soda holding his shoulders down, the wound was finally cleaned. “Go get your homework done while we’re cooking dinner. I’ll call you when it’s done.” Ponyboy walked to his room and shut the door. I started cleaning the blood off the floor and picking up the mess that was created.

Dinner came and went, I checked over Ponyboy’s math as he showered. This used to be Dad’s job, he would clean the wounds and check the homework. Mom would cook the dinner, the second she would turn away Soda would take the food coloring and put it into anything. Soda doesn’t like when things are normal. I remember mom’s laughter when she turned to find Soda mixing the blue mashed potatoes. I couldn’t help but smile at the memory. I finished up my own homework and returned everything to bags.

“Rub harder Soda” I heard Darry mumble “You’re gonna put me to sleep.” I let out a small chuckle. I walked into the living room to see Soda giving Darry a backrub. He hurt himself at work again because he tries to carry too much roofing. Darry doesn’t deserve to be working like a 40-year-old at 20. He was the boy of the year and captain of the football team. Now he’s a roofer working his ass off to take care of his three siblings. He could have been so much more if we had the money. I wish we had the money.
