If you have questions, message me. Spirit work is no joke!

Before we go over the steps of real contact with spirit, let’s go over some warnings and some advice on technique. This guide will work for calling any spirit, whether it be a fluffy unicorn bunny or something extremely uncomfortable and dangerous. It’s like picking up the phone: anyone can be on the other end.

When you do spirit work, you are interacting with a real world filled with infinitely many, and infinitely varied, beings.

  • There are some spirits that prey on humans like wolves prey on rabbits.
  • There are some spirits that are extremely kind and helpful.

In my experience, whatever you call willcome.

If you leave your request open-ended, anything may come to you.

The more specific you are, the better.

But you must understand what you are doing when you call spirits to you.

For example:

  • “Spirits of light, come to me!” Many demons are considered to be “of light”, as well as gods you may be uncomfortable dealing with (Lucifer comes to mind).
  • “All spirits of darkness, leave me!” Well, spirits of all nocturnal animals could be interpreted as being spirits of darkness. The essence of storms and night-time, or even a spirit of sleepiness, could be considered spirits of darkness. Are you sure these are forces you want to send away?

Do not use poetic language. Speak plainly.

Instead of using flowery language, simply say what you mean.

Begin by writing down your intent.

  • What kind of spirit do you want to interact with? (Good, evil, nice, kind, mean? Nature, elemental, bunny, unicorn, demon?)
  • What is your purpose for calling this spirit? (Searching for a guide/guardian/teacher/friend? Have questions to ask? Need help with magic?)
  • How powerful do you believe this spirit will be? Is it going to be more powerful than your abilities to banish it? Never call up what you cannot put down.
  • What do you have to give back to this spirit? (Offerings? Time? Energy?)

In my experience, all spirits get something out of an interaction with a human. It could simply be that their curiosity is sated. A spirit could just be curious as to what kind of human is sending out a call in to their world! It could be that helping or aiding you assists their calling in life or a job they currently have. It could also be that they would like some kind of payment in return, such as offerings of incense, food, or drink. If you have the ability and inclination, have some small offerings on hand. Coffee, tobacco, any foods (I find they seems to like processed foods less), and any alcohols are good. Even a glass of fresh water and/or a little incense will be good.

Once you have your intent written down, formulate your call. Here are three example calls that I would use myself.

  • “I am [magical name]. I am calling out to the spirit world. I am seeking any good and helpful spirits that are willing to help a human such as myself. I wish for assistance with [guardianship/teaching/guidance/etc]. Please come to me so we may interact.”
  • “I am [magical name]. I am calling out to the spirit world. I am seeking any noble and strong warrior spirits that are willing to help a human such as myself. I wish for assistance with guarding my home. In return I can offer brandy and cigars. Please come to me so we may make a deal.”
  • “I am [magical name]. I am calling out to the spirit world. I am seeking a spirit of storms and rain that are willing to help a human such as myself. I wish for rain to be brought to my region. In return I will tell others about my experience so you gain fame in the human world. Please come to me so that we may help each other.”

Quick notes:

  • For spirit work, try adopting a magical name. It does not sit well with me that someone uses their true name immediately with spirits. It’s like giving your telephone number to every stranger you meet. I use my online name, typically Briar although now it is Thicket. Magical names do not have to be permanent. Choose any name or word you like.
  • “I am calling out to the spirit world” can be replaced by any phrase or action that connects you with “the other side”. Find an action or method of connection that feels comfortable to you.
  • It is important to mention that you would like a spirit who wants to help you! It may seem self-evident, but trust me, it is not. Plenty of spirits come to my call who just want to see what’s going on, or who want a chance at the offerings at my side.

Actually calling the spirits, interacting with them, and formulating a relationship

Suppose you would like to meet any guardian or guide spirits that you may have already. Try using a call like this:

“I am [magical name]. I am calling out to the spirit world. I am seeing any guardians, guides, or helpful spirits that are attached to me. Please visit me so I may get to know you.”

Take your notebook and write down the exact call you plan on using. If you like, have some offerings on hand (this is just good form in general). Have with you any divination tools you plan on using. Also have with you the basic tools for banishment.

Sit in a quiet place. Make your environment as witchy as possible to get you in the right mindset. Candles and incense work great if you have them, otherwise try atmospheric music. Do whatever it takes to make you feel like you are connected to the “other” world. Try praying for protection or wearing protection amulets that you may have.

When you are ready, read your call. Read it out loud or mentally, it doesn’t matter; nothing on this plane of existence will hear it anyway.

At this point one of two things will happen: a spirit will visit you, or it will not.

If a spirit does not appear within a few moments, read your call again. Repeat this for three calls total, then try again the next day or the next week. If necessary, do divination to discover why spirits did not want to appear for you. Is it possible the spirit you called for does not exist? Try a different call (more will be listed below) for practice. Is it possible you just do not know how to detect a spirit if it does appear? If nothing seems to be working after a week or so of trying, send me a message. Please send me the exact calls you used.

Remember that spirits are not physical. It is extremely uncommon that a person will see a spirit with their two eyes. A being isn’t just going to appear three dimensionally in your bedroom. Most likely, that being will appear within your imagination. The imagination is an extremely powerful magical tool and should not be ignored because it is “make believe”. If you call an air elemental you may imagine a whirlwind, a bird, a cloud, or anything else that is ‘airy’ in nature, for example.

When your imagination suddenly changes with an image of something, mentally or verbally greet it. Try, “Hello, you may call me [magical name]. Are you replying to my call?”

Understanding what a spirit is communicating to you is tricky. If only they spoke plain English! Look for any sign that the spirit has responded. The image of the spirit may seem to move closer to you, or further away. It may appear to be happy, sad, or upset. You may suddenly get empathetic feelings of agreement or disagreement. You may actually hear, feel, or think words. It is your job to interpret what the spirit is trying to communicate with you. If you like, ask the spirit to influence your divinatory tools so you can communicate through those.

Avoid repeating questions. They do not seem to like it. Ask once, and if you can’t interpret, apologize and ask another question instead.

If absolutely nothing seems to happen, take it as a sign that the spirit did not respond to you. In this situation, if the spirit does not respond, say, “if you are not here to answer my call and assist me, please leave. Thank you for your time.” There is no need to be hostile or rude, just send them away. If they refuse to leave, it is time to banish.

If something does happen, for example if you sense a feeling of agreement or the image seems to nod at you, take this as an affirmative that the spirit is here to answer your call. Continue with your line of questioning. Try these questions:

  • “What may I call you?” (Do not ask for their name directly, I have never had good results when I do).
  • “Are you [the spirit I asked for]?”
  • “Would you like to continue communicating this way?”
  • “What is your role in my life?”

If you are here to make a deal and get it over with, don’t drag out the small talk. “Are you the spirit I called for? Will you protect my house for some brandy? Awesome, I’ll pay you once a week and we’ll revisit the contract in a month.”

If you are there to make a lasting connection, speak for as long as you like or until the spirit appears to become restless or bored.

When the spirit departs, or when you ask it to depart, the mental image of them should leave their mind. Carefully distinguish between having that spirit actively within your imagination, and memories of the spirit within your imagination.

After this first meeting, you can call the same spirit by the name they gave you. Try, “the spirit that gave me the name [spirit’s name] on the date [the date you first met the spirit], please come to me so we may speak.”

Banishment

I don’t have the time or inclination to include full banishing rituals in this small guide. Simply google “how to banish a spirit” or ask a friendly Tumblurian to help :)

Detecting fakes

Alright, so here’s what you gotta do. Just pay attention. If something feels disturbing, wrong, or scary, DO NOT IGNORE THOSE FEELINGS. Fear is an instinct that exists to keep us safe. It is not you being a scaredy cat. It is not you being silly, nervous, or having stage fright. Ask the spirit to leave immediately and do a quick cleansing on your space.

Think about what you asked for and judge a spirit by those standards. An air spirit is not going to take the form of a boulder. A rain spirit is not going to take the form of a candle flame.

If something sounds too good to be true, it is. If a spirit is telling you that you are the chosen one, that you need it to be powerful, etc., you are going to be dinner. Send it away.

Practice calls

I would consider these calls to be relatively safe and good just to get a little experience in. Ask these spirits to come visit you for a short time, then bid them farewell. There is no need to get a name from them unless you really want to call them back. The offerings are just suggestions, to give you some ideas.

  • “I am seeking rabbit or hare spirits that wish to visit me in exchange for some fresh lettuce.”
  • “I desire to contact any spirits of flowers who are nearby, so I may appreciate your beauty.” (Remember to give the flowers many compliments in exchange for their time)
  • “I would like to visit with a good and benevolent water spirit who will teach me about healing.”
  • “I am seeking a dog spirit who would like a nice treat in exchange for his time.”
  • “I wish to speak with a bird spirit, who can show me what the world looks like from the sky. In exchange I can offer bird seed.”
  • “I wish to contact a spirit of beauty who can help teach me magics for clearer skin. In exchange I can give you three dried roses.”
  • “I would like to call upon the spirit of clutter that lives in my home, so that we may make a deal for you to leave my property.”
  • “I would like to call upon the ghost of [my deceased pet*****] so we may visit and share good times.”
  • “I desire to contact any good and benevolent spirits who are directly involved in my life, so we may speak and get to know each other.”
  • “I desire to contact any spirits who wish harm against me, so I may make amends and heal our relationship.”
  • “I am seeking a spirit of hard work to bless me in my future endeavors, in exchange for a small shrine built in your honor.”

*****DO NOT call human relatives to you at this point. It is way too easy for a demon or spook to pretend to be a human relative. It is okay if human spirits come to you in general, but it is a suckerpunch to the gut to realize that your beloved departed is really an evil spirit in disguise. Stick with animal friends for now.

Calling gods and other such beings

This method will work to call gods as well. Be very careful of petty spirits that pretend to be gods. Judge each being by its folklore and what you know about them.

What to do with offerings?

For any offering, set it aside and watch the spirit enjoy it. When the spirit is done, dispose of the offerings just as you would clear a plate from the guest table.

Pour any liquids on to the ground or down the drain. Bury or compost foods, or dispose of them in the trash. Simply allow incense to burn and throw away the ashes.

magic-for-the-masses:

Please note - though I myself am not a spirit worker, I’ve done enough research and seen enough of other people’s personal stories to say this: spirit work is not always light and fluffy and happy (obviously it can be, but not all the time). Spirits are not all willing to work with you peacefully - some are even downright rude or aggressive. It can be dangerous, and there are risks of getting involved with other entities not of this world. Make sure you know what you are getting into completely and are well prepared before engaging. Read and practice at your own discretion.

Since Summer began to get really hot here, I do my best to make sure that my cats have enough water when I leave for work. I keep a large stainless steel bowl in the bathroom sink in case they spill some and I always make sure it’s full.

So, before bed, it was really hot and I made sure there was water in their bowl. When I woke up the next day, all the water was gone. Had they knocked it around, there would have been some left and I would have been startled awake. It’s a fairly sturdy bowl and not easily something the average cat can move. Even if they fought into the bowl I would have heard something. But, the bowl was bone dry.

When asked, my keep told me that a merman spirit had traveled very far to get to my house and drank all the water. I was dumbfounded. Even after being told, I still looked for a hole or something just in case it was a trick. My new merman was real and he was here to stay.

Since going on hiatus with the spirit work, I’ve gotten to really build on what I know and learn a lot. This was a great experience and things like this don’t happen often. Still, to this day, I can’t get over this and it will always boggle my mind.

image

Earlier today, I was reminded of a convo I had with another friend/ client about vessels and bindings and it reminded me that I should make a post about it.

I forgot where I heard it but, bindings are just a means of locating where home is, in a sense. Binding to your spirit is the same as binding to a vessel. It’s not a cage or prison, but just a means to find where you or home is. Binding to spirit makes the connection stronger but some people have a hard time and prefer the physical vessel to hold during meditation and things like that. so it’s not a matter of how many you can have bound to you because, from my experience, it seems endless, but more a choice of how you want things to be done with your keep.

Now, I speak from experience as I’m very liberal with the movements of my keep. I don’t feel the need to tell them “stay home or else” because, as part of your spirit family, they have functions to perform.

For example, I always ask them to watch over my parents. They’re retired and walk all over the place unless they need the car for something or have to take the bus. I’d like to think that, not only are they watching over my parents, they’re watching over other people that could use their protection. So besides watching the house and my parents, there’s a library they can visit and a park. I don’t want them to feel bored or useless so they have every right to explore and discover and learn about the people in the area. Maybe even help other spirits move on.

So, while there’s a lot that can be done while you, as keeper, are home, there’s just as much they can do when you’re not and it’s like a learning experience for both of us. Trust is a two-way street and being able to have faith in them and treating them as we would like to be treated is something I feel is very important when bonding with your spirit family.

waywardfrog:

As with all my posts– there’s probably going to be several updates. Please keep in mind this this post comes from my experiences, so whatever may be true for me may not be true for you, and one or two flags may not mean a malicious spirit. Everything is situational.

This doesn’t cover any spirits who may have good intentions but can’t control what their energy/presence does to people. The Leanan Fae’s energy for example, will cause a person go insane if not bound correctly.

How To Identify:

1. You get uneasy/feel you are in danger around the spirit/their vessel.
Now, keep in mind that some bias is going to come into this, too. You may, for some reason or another, end up with the spirit race/type that you aren’t comfortable working with. Just because you’re uncomfortable, that doesn’t make them malicious, and you should talk to the conjurer about that. However– I don’t like saying trust your gut, because I don’t believe intuition is usually more than ego in most cases. But if this, persists to the point where it impedes your communication, I would look into either banishing or rehoming. *Your mental health takes priority over a spirit, all reputable conjurers will tell you this.* If you’ve talked to the spirit about this and the spirit has made no attempt to talk with you or discuss what’s happening, you’ve gotten a red flag.

Another red flag: there is a large amount of negativity surrounding the vessel.

2. The spirit repeatedly guilts/ ignores you unless you give an offering.
Would you like a friend that does this to you? This kind of behavior shouldn’t be acceptable, and is kind of thing should be self explanatory. Bonus red flag points if you tell them that you don’t have the money, and they keep bugging you for it anyway, and ignore any other type of communication.

3. The spirit starts telling you that they’re from a past life, after you have a good reason to believe that they don’t have the best intentions.
If you believe in that thing, two spirits in my home are from a past life. They’re not cruel or abusive in any way– in fact, most past life spirits care enough about you to find you again. However– *there is nothing that important, there’s nothing that the spirit tells you that can justify for any mistreatment you received.* Just because the spirit tells you that you were lovers in all your past lives (99.9% of the time, that claim is BS anyway), that doesn’t mean you should welcome them with open arms and accept that the spirit is doing this because “they love you”.

4. Your boundaries are repeatedly pushed despite warnings to stop.
No spirit who truly respects you should purposely push anything onto you. I have very mixed feelings on spirits who “test” you– but if they repeatedly touch you, talk to you, move things around, whatever, after you ask them to stop, it’s probably time to end the relationship. Respect is a two way street.

I know there’s the argument of: I want to be tested! But I’m not talking about that. I work with a goddess that’s known for putting people through intense situations so they grow, and I knew that before I went into it. Most cases aren’t like that.

5. *Your spirit family/guides/whatever flat-out tell you that this spirit doesn’t have the best intentions*.
I can’t believe how often this one is ignored. Yes, discernment should be used in these types of cases, but if everything is adding up and you have multiple spirits telling you that the spirit is doing shady activities behind the scenes, it’s time for them to go.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve had good experiences with them before–some spirits play nice to get you to lower your guard.

On the flip side, make sure that the other spirits just don’t like the entity.

Make sure to talk to your conjurer before you banish/rehome. As a warning though– there are conjurers who claim that the “spirit just wanted to help” or “this spirit still cares about you!” or otherwise invalidate your experiences. In my opinion, this isn’t acceptable for any conjurer to do because they were not there with you when working with the spirit.

And lastly, we need to discuss how to deal with a few with these spirits.

The most important thing. Do not give into any hatred or any other “negative” feeling when dealing with them. They feed off of that. As hard as it sounds, don’t panic, it only makes the situation worse. You’ll be fine.

A spirit isn’t super powerful just because they got through your wards– all wards have loopholes, and it could have even entered through an unwarded spot.

A spirit isn’t super powerful because they’re able to resist other spirits/spells. There are so many factors that go into this circumstance, and it’s so situational that I can’t even put a blanket statement on it. I’ve had a being resist a vanishing spell when I first started my path because it *walked into a far room of my house where it wasn’t very effected, then came back as soon as the magic lessened*. This gives the illusion that it’s super powerful, even though it’s just actually just smart.

Now, onto the actual methods.

I know this is going to be hard to hear– you need to do most of the work yourself, you are the one that the spirit is harassing, and you need to take back your space. You can do anything you want here– incense, cleanse, or beat the crap out of it. You need to force your intent into what you’re doing. Don’t stop. Persistence is key. It could take weeks if the spirit is really determined. Don’t just say to the spirit that it’s not welcome here (because it knows that by now, it doesn’t care), show it.

You may hear the spirit taunt/guilt you. Think of it as the “Exorcist” movie ordeal. Remember the scene where the spirit possessing the girl repeatedly attempted to get into the priest’s head and get him upset and angry? It’s like that. Ignore it.

Once you feel that the spirit is sufficiently weakened (replies are soft and ‘muted’), it’s time to send it packing. Again, do what ever you most feel comfortable with– force your intent for it to leave and never come back. Do this a few times if you want.

When you feel that the spirit is gone, take a break and do something you enjoy. Take your mind off of it. Don’t stress about the spirit coming back, because if you do, there’s a good chance that it might. Try and fix up your wards, and mend anything broken by the spirit, if anything. Cleanse.

This has always worked for me in the past– I hope this helps people who have this problem. Good luck!

lokean-witch:

In this post, I will give you:

A forewarning.

Ways to recognise when a spirit is around.

Exercises to help you sense them.

Grounding Methods

Herbs for Psychic Powers/Tea recipes

Gems for Psychic awareness/powers

A Forewarning:

It’s easy to convince yourself that everything is a spirit. I’ve seen a lot of beginners and even more experienced people do so. There’s also the placebo effect. Your friend says they saw a spirit and now you start seeing that thing around you. It could be because you’re giving it energy, but it could very well be a type of placebo effect. So be careful. Not everything is a spirit…

… and not everything isn’t.

Now, here I will be giving out information I have gathered around, however, take it with a pinch of salt and add what you wish to it.

Finally, remember that grounding yourself is also very important. I’ll expand upon that in another post.

Recognise a Spirit:

There are ways to recognise a spirit through all five senses, and for some, even the sixth one.

There are spirits with higher frequencies, “good” spirits, if you will. And some with lower frequencies, “bad” spirits, as some will call them. I am of the mindset that there are no good or bad spirits, just like there are no good or bad people.

Please note: I am not talking about demons, here.

Spirits with higher or lower frequencies will feel or be sensed differently.

Again, here’s a strong disclaimer. Not everything is a spirit/ghost. Especially if you suffer with a mental illness, please be cautious.

Sight:

  • Shadows: Shadows are an easy way for spirits to manifest themselves. They’re not fully manifested, but you can see them. There’s a difference between shadows and shadow people, you’ll immediately feel the change in energy.
  • Partial Manifestation: Although rarer, spirits can fully manifest parts of themselves, such as eyes, face, hands. They’re often a whitish hue or even full colour. These don’t last long due to the tremendous energy it takes.
  • Full Manifestation: A full body manifestation is very rare and doesn’t last long, because for a spirit to fully manifest itself, it takes a lot of energy. Some people can help a spirit stay manifested longer, but I’ve seen it take an awful toll on those people’s health. I don’t suggest you try it.
  • Peripheral Vision: Seeing people or shadows out of the corner of your eyes. This is the most common way to see a spirit.
  • Air Distortions: Distortions in the air where there’s no reason to have any. Can be a sign of a spirit either trying to manifest itself or simply there.
  • Orbs: Orbs are small balls of light that are usually captured when taking a picture with a flash. Though a lot of them is just the flash catching dust or pollen, there are also “ghost orbs”, or spirit energy. There are even orbs that you can zoom in on and see faces/shapes.Orbs have also been spotted just floating around.
  • Light Distortion: Sometimes, when a spirit is of a lower frequency, the light in the room seems to be drained, lights can spontaneously go off, candle flames dwindle without a cause and so on. But when a spirit is of a higher frequency, lights seem to shine brighter and candle flames can burn high.

Hearing:

Hearing is the most delicate one since I have, in the past, suffered from insomnia induced psychosis for several months, and know what it is like to hear voices. Please don’t assume that the voices you hear are spirits. And even if they are, don’t let them tell you to do bad things. They have no power over you unless you give them power, whether they be real or not.

  • Tinnitus: So this one is rather nebulous, but a few of my psychic friends/acquaintances claim that often, when they hear a sharp ringing in their ears, it’s a spirit attempting to communicate, but either they aren’t ready to hear what they have to say, or the spirit isn’t capable to getting their message across the veil.
  • Zaps, Bangs and odd little sounds: Sometimes, a spirit can try and get your attention through odd little noises only you hear, and seemingly come from nowhere.
  • Footsteps: Footsteps in a room when nobody’s home, or on the walls or ceiling. Your house is making more noise than usual without any causing.
  • Tapping: Little knocks at your door or on your wall through which you can even communicate. Sometimes doors slam without wind.<
  • Buzzing: Your ears may buzz loudly when spirits are around.
  • Whispers: Hearing whispers when there is no reason to.
  • Voices: Hearing voices around you when there is no one. This is a delicate subject matter. Don’t trust the voices without being 1000% sure. Don’t trust the voices if you are currently in a bad mental place (unless it’s trying to cheer you up and help you, in that case, even if it’s a hallucination, at least it’s pretty positive) and don’t trust the voices if they’re telling you to do something bad. Or something that could lead to something bad. However, it is a way for spirits to communicate.

Taste:

  • Odd Tastes: This is an odd one and I only know two people other than me that have that reaction to spirits, but it’s basically when certain spirits give you tastes in your mouth, such as blood, dirt, sugar, spices and more.

Smell:

  • Good Smells: A spirit can manifest itself with good smells. Smells that remind you of a deceased loved one or something comforting.
  • Bad Smells: Just as similarly, some spirits come around with bad smells like rotting flesh or blood.
  • Other: Sometimes, a smell that has no reason to be there just appears. Like the smell of roast beef in the middle of the night, wafting from your kitchen.

Touch:

  • A gush of Warm/cool air: You randomly feel a breeze when there shouldn’t be one.
  • A stroke: You feel as though someone is touching you, stroking you, often in a loving way, or sometimes, in a more uncomfortable way. It gives you goosebumps or shivers.
  • A Blow: A full on blow to your body. This is rare and more often happens in dream/while you sleep, while real life physical consequences.
  • Marks: Odd marks on your body. For example, I had a hand shaped mark on my inner thigh, in a way my hands couldn’t have done it, it was outlined with a white line, but was not a scratch. Don’t assume every bump/scratch is a spirit.
  • Hands: You feel someone touching you. Not really like a stroke, just a hand on your shoulder, or around your throat, or on your cheek. Sometimes a hand holding yourself.
  • Change in Air pressure: The air around you feels lighter, or heavier, depending on the vibrations.
  • Pressure on Chest: a very common one I’ve heard is the feeling someone or something sitting on your chest, most of the time, in a very oppressive way.
  • Electric Shocks: Some people, like myself, feel electric shocks down our spines when close to spirits.
  • Skin: Your skin crawls, or goosebumps suddenly erupt for no reason, you feel dirty.

ESP:

Extra sensory perception, possibly the most common way to feel a spirit.

  • Anxiety: Unexplained anxiety, stress, fear, panic attacks, depression and such.
  • Joy: Euphoria, happiness, confidence, comfort, compassion, good emotions that come out of nowhere.
  • Empathy: Suddenly feeling emotions that aren’t yours when you, yourself aren’t an empath.
  • Paranoia: Sudden feelings of being watched, being in danger/vulnerable, feeling you’re not alone.
  • Intuition: Sudden increase in intuition, like someone is telling you something.
  • Dread: Your stomach drops,a feeling of dread, tight throat, unexplained sadness.
  • Dizziness: Dizziness, nausea, motion sickness, you just feel queasy and wrong.

Become more Sensitive:

I don’t know if someone who isn’t naturally sensitive to spirits can become it, though they probably can, I wouldn’t know the methods. So here, I’m going to list ways of increasing already existing sensitivity.

  • Always Start by Grounding: Grounding is incredibly important. Everyone has their method. Mine is to walk barefoot in the earth or to just stand up and feel my feet. You can meditate, use crystals and so on. I’ll list more grounding methods later.
  • Meditate: Meditation is an effective way of becoming more receptive to subtle things around you. Everyone has their techniques, but I like doing Anapana before expanding into consciousness projection.
  • Just get yourself into a spiritual state: May it be through music, walking in the woods, cooking, anything that gets you spiritual, it’ll increase your sensitivity.
  • Herbal Infusion: Make a herbal tea that favours psychic powers. I’ll give recipes later.
  • Open your Third Eye: Everyone has their method, but the third eye is a very effective way of doing so.
  • Work with Crystals: I’ll give a list of crystals later.
  • Get Spirit’s Attention: Again, many methods that I will list later, but you can find your own.
  • Channel: Play a good game of Ouija, or do some automatic writing, maybe use your pendulum or any methods of channeling you use. It can get you going.

There are many other methods. Find your own!

Grounding:

  • Walk: Take a long walk in nature, barefooted preferably, and just feel the earth beneath your feet.
  • Trees: Hug trees, meditate under trees, just be around trees, imagine yourself rooting yourself in the earth. Can work with house plants, just dig your hands into the earth and feeling your energy going deep.
  • Dance: Dance around, stomp your feet, rock the world, just get in touch with your physical body.
  • Meditate: Meditate. Just concentrate in your breath, your body. Then, you can try and expand your consciousness, but instead of reach up, go down, into the earth.
  • Massage: Massage yourself or get someone to massage you. Nothing airy. A nice, deep massage. Rub your limbs and pat yourself down. You’re here, in your body.
  • Exercise: Do physical exercise. Yoga in particular (I don’t recommend Kundalini or westernised Yoga Pilates/etc, but actual Indian yoga. Something grounding like standing poses, especially Tadasana/Mountain Pose.) and Qi Gong
  • Animals: Spend time stroking your dog, cat, horse, earth animal (not birds, or aquatic animals)
  • Earth Spirit: Ask earth spirits, such as trolls, gnomes and others to help you be grounded.

Finally, a disclaimer. I don’t know everything. I may have made some mistakes. Please take care of yourself when working with the subtle and please don’t force yourself into doing something that frightens you or that you don’t feel ready to do. If you are mentally unstable, first look into healing yourself before going into spirit communication, since spirits can trick you, just like humans.

Please take care, but don’t be afraid either since fear is food for spirits with lower vibrations.

Building spirit houses and shrines for your household spirits

I believe one of the best way to begin cultivating a relationship with any spirit is to build them a small house or shrine.

Creating a physical space for them in our world begets them allowing us into their spiritual reality.

It’s reciprocity: I will make space for you, and I hope you make space for me.

You don’t need to be able to see or hear spirits, or engage in two-way communication, in order to begin building a relationship with those spirits.

You also do not need to have clearly identified the spirit.

A shrine to a household spirit is very simple. All you need to do is devote a physical space - like a shelf, a box, or even an actual dollhouse - to that spirit.

It is ideal to build the shrine in a place where the spirit seems to spend the most time. If you don’t know where a household spirit likes to spend its time, it is worthwhile to attempt to find out.

Some spirits may like the peace and calm of a cozy little shelf in the pantry. Other spirits may want to be right near the front door or the busiest rooms.

Before you begin building the shrine, inform the spirit of your intent. This does not need to be ceremonial and you do not need to be able to receive messages back from them. Make some general occult fussings - light a candle or incense, ring a bell, rap on walls with your knuckles - you know, stuff that gets their attention.

If you are building a shrine for all spirits in your home, just tell them that. “Everyone, I want us to be friends, so I’m going to make a space for you to rest and enjoy yourselves.”

Perhaps this is for only one spirit. You don’t need to have them fully identified. Try something like this: “I’ve noticed a shy spirit that seems to hide in the bathrooms. I want to make a shrine just for you.”

Trust that you have been heard. In this day and age, oft-neglected spirits are usually delighted that someone is paying attention to them.

Once you’ve told the spirits of your intent, you may begin receiving intuitions. Perhaps you thought one shelf would be best for the shrine, but you keep feeling a nagging sense to build it somewhere else. You may feel feelings of curiosity or excitement that don’t quite seem to be your own.

Use of a pendulum may be of assistance if you’d like to make communication ongoing, but it never does to let divination subsume action.

An appropriate surface, box, or container does not need to be large. Don’t put yourself out by over-spending space. The materials also do not need to be expensive or grandiose. A cardboard shoebox will do. A large quart jar makes a fine spirit shrine. Even an origami box!

What you should try to do is find something with enough space to leave small, delightful objects and gifts. It is a good idea to include a space to leave temporary offerings, even things like glasses of water. For example, you could use an old pickle jar as the primary spirit house, and simply have a dish next to it where you burn incense.

Spirits also sometimes like dark and quiet places. If you are using an open shelf or a clear jar, consider including something with opaque walls, or a divider.

Spirits can move through even the tiniest cracks. A spirit can enter and exit a cardboard box at will, even if the lid is on. Be mindful of sealing jars with airtight lids.

Whatever surface or container you use, ensure it is very clean. I do not mean spiritually cleansed. A pickle jar is fine and well, unless it still smells like pickles. Please remember that many strong scents can be offensive to the spirits.

Also remember that Wortcunning teaches us plants may have specific effects on spirits - your essential oils may just smell nice to you and an infographic may list them as “cleansing”, but their inherent spiritual essences may actually make your spirit home suitable for the wrong kind of spirit, increase manifestations beyond a level you’re comfortable with, or otherwise make the spirit home uncomfortable for the spirit you want to invite there.

Here, less is more - wash, clean, and dust items as you normally would.

The concept with spirit shrines and houses is that the spirits can make actual use of the objects you put there.

Ideally, the spirit home should have comfortable things so the spirits can be cozy and rest.

Gather and place very comfortable, cozy objects on the shrine or in the container. This might be a bit of flannel or a knitted/crocheted swatch for a blanket, a small sewn and stuffed pillow, or even miniature furniture like a dollhouse chair.

These things do not have to be arranged as if they are a diorama bedroom. You can just layer soft fabrics into a box or surface.

Once you have a clean space set aside with a few comfortable objects, and something like an offering dish, the spirit house may be complete.

Make more occult fussings to get the spirit’s attention (although you may sense that the spirit is hovering over your shoulder, so to speak). Tell the spirit that its space is ready. Tell the spirit that it should make use of the space as it pleases. At this time, consider giving a small offering to celebrate the occasion.

However, many other things can be added to the spirit shrine. Be careful when giving non-disposable gifts. Your spirit may very much enjoy its collection of coins and cigarettes, and be upset with you if you need to clear them away because too much space is taken up.

If a spirit is being troublesome around the home, building them a little home may be helpful right away. You can also put things there that they will enjoy playing with. Strings of shiny beads and crystals, windchime charms, colorful tangles of threads, kaleidoscopes (come back and turn them from time to time!), and other colorful, interesting trinkets are often much-beloved by bored household spirits.

You do not need to constantly clean the spirit’s space. Consider that the space is like the spirit’s bedroom - they do not necessarily want you invading their space in order to clean it. A quarterly cleaning (perhaps on each solstice and equinox) will suffice. The spirit home should not collect “negative” energies.

You also do not need a regular offering schedule. An offering even once a month will suffice.

Pay attention to any nagging little thoughts that the spirit house ought to change or be moved. Use a pendulum to help confirm these notions.

Current projects:

*Finishing altar - waiting for Hekate’s statue but after that I’ll still need to hang the shrines on the walls otherwise the altar will be crowded.

*Creating 2 servitors based on Pokemon to watch over my pups and kittens. I’m thinking of using Espeon for the kittens and Herdier for the pups.

*Figuring out where all the lust energy came from that has saturated our bedroom. I mean…I can guess but I haven’t been aware of this issue until now. The sex smog has been distracting the spirit fam to a point where they have a very hard time communicating with me. I’m going to see if I can consume the energy first before I attempt a cleansing. I’ve heard cleansing my own energy from my spaces can make me sick or at least have negative side-effects.

*Establishing better rapport with my spirit fam, which would include finishing their tarot readings and recording the data.

If you have questions concerning magick, occultism, or demonolatry, feel free to ask.
