Oc inspired in that fake winged tarantula photo
So we had a super exciting time on my daily barn livestream yesterday when this big ol’ leg friend wandered into the pasture! I didn’t want him to get squished so I scooped him up and helped him find a better place to be. Stream named him Oreo and I got to info-dump about North American tarantulas to strangers, so all in all a fantastic day!
How The Venom of The King Baboon Spider Could Help Us Better Understand Chronic Pain
Really interesting study on the venom of P. muticus. The image is not P. muticus but looks like a P. murinus. Both are colloquially called baboon spiders. This is why scientific names are so important. This could help with better treating chronic pain in people and animals. This is also a good example of why we need to protect entire habitats and not just the cute animals we want to hug. I do like that the actual paper says the tarantula has an “appealing coloration”.

I’ve not actually seen the entire spider in about 5 months, this is the first time in over a year I’ve actually caught it hunting outside it’s web.
The Beldam & Mommy Long Legs: Spider types

Thought the Beldam x Mommy Long Legs ship in my previous post was so cute I had to continue it.
So I was cogitating about what sort of spiders these two would be. First, the Beldam. I thought of her design and saw the colors black white and red so I thought, “Redback.” But then my mind drifted to ‘Funnel Web’ because of the funnel-like web she made to try and trap Coraline in the final battle. Ultimately, I think 'Trapdoor Spider’ suits her most since she lures her victims to the little door to the Other World.
As for Mommy Long Legs… well, I Googled the words “pink spider” and found the Mexican pink tarantula, the Brazilian pink bloom tarantula, the pink crab spider and the jumping spider, neither of which suited her. Then I remembered her name which was a parody of 'Daddy long legs’, so I’ll just go with what it says on the tin, underwhelming as it is. For what it’s worth, daddy long legs spiders are pretty fast, hence making Mommy Long Legs any arachnophobe’s worst nightmare.
