The Devil sits atop his altar of distorted attractions, swimming in a swirl of inviting entropy. Though the Devil seeks to acquire us through deception, its fearsome grin & elaborate horrors are plainly on display: you may indulge your destructive nature, but your master is looking through you.

My card depicts a strong young woman about to swing a mighty hammer on the strongman game: she is completely focused on her labor, on the goal in front of her. She is confident in herself and knows she will complete the task. The carnival tents stand in for the town, & the chair swing ride in the far background represents the fun she is eschewing in favor of doing the work she needs to do.

A deer girl was captured for the Freak Circus. The tamer give her name of Lady Baby Deer… Put her into the Prison of Eight Swords, sewing her eyes to keep her calm & quiet. During a cloudy night, she found a scissorson the ground, and cut the wire near her eyes, the same that to tie the Eight Swords. Lady Baby Deer desperately wishing to be free, and in the heartedly of the escape, she destroy the mirror, and finally found the only truth, reflecting on the glass. She’s a monster. She’s alone. She’s not human. She cannot be free.

The horn is the wand…flowers falling from the clouds represent creative inspiration & possibilities that we conceive in our mind becoming reality. Butterflies represent new beginnings.
I filled the base with flowers & butterflies growing outwards, ideas start in the mind but become a reality once you take action.

Artist interpretation:
I’ve made a Venetian themed card. I wanted to stay true to the knight on a white horse, but give my own twist. The horse is white, to keep the “purity”, “Light ”& “spirituality”, but I made him a unicorn with armor to fit the knight. Red symbolises the romance of the card, as do roses. For the background I chose dusk scenery with golden colors, castle ruins in the back. I wanted the cup as a focal point, so he’s holding it up high.

My initial thoughts were of the elaborate dress & masks of the Venice Carnivale. My vision, for the Three of Pentacles was of dressmakers. Though only an apprentice, the young lady is entrusted with an elegant costume for an important client. Her mentors look on in approval as she adds finishing touches. I wanted to incorporate the zodiacal associations in the imagery. I’ve given the mentors fancy head-dress with bull & goat horns (Taurus & Capricorn), & the apprentice represents the maiden of Virgo.

Referencing the original alchemical properties of the Tarot, it is the sum of Agrippa’s human form divine, the Vitruvian man as the ultimate sacrifice recapitulated as a symbol for the events of 911. Who can forget that haunting image of the falling clerk, framed between the twin towers- a perfect approximation of Saturn’s harlequin- the fool hanging & paraded as a ritual martyr for some divined end.

My card shows a woman on the tightrope. The woman has one foot on the platform & is stepping knowingly into rope. The platform is the material world & the rope is the subconscious. She is sure footed and knows what she’s is doing along with the risks involved. Temperance shows us that the middle road is the best course of action. Know & understand all the elements & make decisions without taking risks & keep an eye on long-term goals.
