I guess that touya was some sort of backup plan for afo in case shigaraki doesn’t work
I still wonder how he ended up on the streets though it didn’t fell like the doc and afo knew dabi too me(then again the doc was very enthusiastic about dabi during mva.Perhaps he wanted Afo to pick him instead of shiggy?)

worst/best AU thought: had Touya revealed himself that day he went home, he would’ve been able to stay and reunite with his family… except Enji would’ve had to eventually take Touya to the doctors because his body starts failing. And Enji can afford the best doctors.
There is something sadly poetic about this: even if AFO and the Doctor meddled and further traumatised Touya, his love for his family and his desire to set things right with them saved him from becoming a nomu and AFO’s puppet. Instead, it was still Endeavor who made him snap finally and created Dabi.
He went home and realized that not only his life, but also his death was meaningless to his father. There are no writings on the wall like at Toga’s place and Touya has an altar and all, but even with his death, nothing changed.
