Congratulations to Carl Nassib who publicly announce he was gay during Gay Pride Month 2021. This makes him the first active NFL football player to announce he was a homosexual.
Although other NFL players have revealed they were gay after retiring, such as Dave Kopay and Michael Sam, Nassib is the first to still be playing (a defensive end for alas Vegas’ Raiders).
Reaction has been supportive, from the NFL, the Raiders, and teammates. The public showed it support by buying jerseys with Nassib’s name and number - out selling all other jerseys the day of his announcement.
Nassib plans to donate $100,000 to The Trevor Project, an organization dedicated to providing crisis intervention to LGBTQ youth.

We at The Drunken Geek are very pleased to announce that on June 6th, 2021, to kick off Pride month, we will be having our first ever live-streamed game to raise money for a cause very important to all of us: The Trevor Project.
Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25. For this stream, we will be playing a session of the teen superhero game Masks: A New Generation by Brendan Conway and Magpie Games. Masks is a game featuring teenaged superheroes learning for themselves who they are in a world that seeks to define their identity for them. A prelude session will be released as a regular episode leading up to the stream as well.

Singing and songwriting have always been important to me. I use them as a creative and emotional outlet when I’m feeling low. I’ve learned through The Trevor Project’s research that I’m not alone in this — LGBTQ youth often find joy and strength in their lives through music, art and creativity! It’s meaningful to connect with one another through art, and so critical for young people to know the value of sharing their stories and voices. That’s why I’m so excited – and grateful – to host a virtual concert on my Instagram starting at 5-7 PM PST / 8-10 PM EST to support The Trevor Project. I really hope you can tune in.
I’m really happy to announce that Trevor Project will be including some training materials about asexuality and asexual issues for their staff and volunteers. The Trevor Project offers 24 hour 7 day a week telephone counseling services to youth who are struggling with crisis and thoughts of suicide. In addition they have an online anonymous advice message system for non-crisis issues surrounding gender and sexual identity. The staff and volunteers who provide advice and support will now have access to and training on ace positive information.
This is huge and is great inclusion by the Trevor Project! Suicide prevention among youth of all gender and sexual minorities and the other work that Trevor Project does is critical. Suicide has touched many of us in some way. Now there is a place for ace, grey-a, aromantic, and demisexual people to seek help when they are in crisis. The Trevor Project crisis line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-866-488-7386.
Now is the time to spread this information across our community so that everyone knows. I’ve attached a few graphics: two purple Trevor Project logos and a two of their own graphics. Note: Trevor’s logo color is primarily orange; I made purple graphics instead of orange/purple ones for color clashing reasons.
If you have a blog, website, tumblr, or other web presence, you can use these graphics to spread the word. I know that we can get this information across our community very quickly and let everyone know that there is help and hope when they feel alone. If you have a blog or tumblr, please write about this to spread the word. I’m also adding the info to my AVEN signature and my Facebook page.
The materials that were created for Trevor Project’s training manual are available here. Originally I intended to have them be produced via a community project but I wasn’t able to get that together in time (I’m sorry :( ). Producing more documents like this one is a goal of mine over the summer, so anyone who is interested in that should send me a message. Our research scientists partnered with health economists at Cytel to publish a new peer-reviewed study today in JAMA Pediatrics that found the practice of conversion therapy on LGBTQ youth, and its associated harms, cost the United States an estimated $9.23 billion annually ‼️
Conversion therapy refers to a range of dangerous and discredited practices aimed at changing one’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
The study estimates that 508,892 LGBTQ youth in the U.S. were at risk of being subjected to conversion therapy last year
