Extremely honored to have been asked by @Blizzard & the team at @PlayOverwatch to do an illustration for their Anniversary event! This was in celebration of their latest #Archives mission- Storm Rising, located in the new, beautiful Havana map. As a huge fan of #Overwatch and the company, I’m so excited to have been able to work on this & share it with you now!
Overwatch 2 was officially announced at BlizzCon 2019 today! From someone that has been mildly and unhealthily obsessed with Overwatch since it was first announced (you could even say I was interested even before it was officially known as Overwatch, RIP Titan), I think OW2 looks amazing, and I am already consummately consumed with anticipatory-giddiness!
Anyway! With the new iteration comes some great character redesigns! Ithink all of them are mostly fantastic (Reinhardt’s top-knot hair is… Choices™️) and it’s nice that they’re more subtle tweaks instead of complete reworkings or overhauls. The silhouettes of these characters are just so well crafted! Both from a character/personality standpoint and from a game design perspective; the silhouettes immediately signal to players which character is which, even from large distances, even with the expansive library of skins. So these designs are excellent because it shows proportionate character progression (it’s just been 3 years since OW was released, but I don’t know how much in-game time has supposedly passed) while simultaneously streamlining and modernizing the character’s designs.
They haven’t released all of the updated designs, but I’ve made these handy GIFs that compare the New Lewks with the Current Lewk for each hero since the interface on PlayOverwatch.com kinda sucks…
Now my only hope is that Blizzard stops being a dumbass in time for Overwatch 2′s release! Because I definitely won’t buy anything from Blizzard while they’re still stifling the right to protest and freespeech.

overwatch had the right idea when they made every sniper in the game weak to a gorilla that could leap to your position and beat you to death. i think this should be a more common game design choice for multiplayer games

The Overwatch Diversity Index thing is so funny to me bc I feel like Alan Grant seeing dinosaurs roam for the first time, I’m like “How can you exist, you were supposed to die years ago…”
It feels like an artifact that was transported to the present from the mid 2010s when people did act like diversity was quantifiable. Like God of course you soulless weirdos would have this bizarre setup where you funnel points into Ethnicity like you’re allocating points into DnD attributes or some shit, and God only knows how many people in 2016 would have seen that and been like “Wow this is a great tool to help you diversify your characters!”
(I mean I’m sure there are still people like that now but I like to imagine that for the most part people have grown tired of that kind of shit and largely demand higher quality rep)
You know what it is, this is just those 4chan Privilege Quizzes only instead of mocking minorities it’s saying “Actually this is GOOD, please don’t ask us to tell you how we came up with the numbers for the Ethnicity Scale”
Okay I’m sorry I have to know more about what kind of fuckin race science is being employed to quantify this shit. Why is “Arab” a 7? What is above and below that. What about Culture? How many options did you even list and what were the parameters for quantifying THAT? Do they go into negative values, say if you’re rich? What the fuck is Cognitive Ability and once more, what phrenology ass pseudoscience was employed to quantify this. I must know
I went DEEP into this and found like the dev talking about it and God it’s such a good idea IN CONCEPT if they just made markers that get numbers based on how many of an identity you’ve included in your game (like 2 CIS 2 HET 1 WHITE 3 MEN kind of thing) but instead they deciding to QUANTIFY IT INSTEAD
The result is the torbjorn is more OLD than Lucio is BLACK. And torbjorn is more DISABLED than zarya is RUSSIAN. And Zenyatta is equally attractive as mercy and Moira is more Cisgender than Lucio and it’s like WHAT ARE YOU SAYING WHAT IS THIS
Oh also the head dev of the project is a white rich woman who loves Elon Musk and the NBA

A few months ago I drew a lot of McCree pics and comics and put ‘em in a zine, but I had two pages left for another comic without an idea. Then my friend Chris, a.k.a. @theisb swooped in like a hero and wrote this fun comic for me!
