Live Plants and Animals in Magic

So, genuine question here, why does it seem so rare to find magic that utilizes live plants and animals these days? I’m honestly curious and would love to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Is it due to a lack of convenience? A lack of predictability? A fear of offending spirits? Risk vs reward calculations? Something else altogether?

I admit that using live plants and animals in magic is not always the answer but they do seem to have their time and place! Just like bones and dried plants do. Different things for different times and all that.

For example: there’s a particular plant I tie a spell to every year and therefore need to take care of it so it continues to thrive. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship though and we each get something out of it. Yes, there’s a risk that the plant might die but the rewards have outweighed the risk for me.

There are also heaps of folklore around blessing or hexing cows (and by extension the prosperity of the family), especially in the valley near me. I’m sure other areas are the same and yet I only ever hear about it locally and rarely online.

Even creatures as small as spiders can be utilized without killing them so why do I so rarely see anyone talking about it?

Is it happening and I just don’t notice? Is it no longer convenient? Do people not find it effective? Let’s chat!

Magick:
Wisdom and Folly
Humor, Trickster, Cunning

The coyote is an adaptive, playful, and loyal creature. If a coyote has shown up in your life, ask yourself these questions:

-are you or those around you being too serious?
-have you forgotten that playtime is essential to your health?
-are you complicating what should be really simple in a part of your life?
-is someone playing tricks on you?
-are you not seeing the wisdom of your life and it’s events?

Meditation in the coyote can help you answer these questions.
They key to coyote magick is finding the balance between wisdom and folly, and understanding that they go hand in hand.

Someone who isn’t a witch: Why do you have like 5 different tarot decks? Don’t they all say the same thing?

Me: Well no, it depends on whether I want to be slapped in the face with my own stupidity or if I want my stupidity calmy handed to me with a pat on the back

hello, all~!

I just wanted to share a few things you can do to help our little friends! bees are so important, and they need our love.

build a bee hotel

image

you can use recycled materials you have on hand to create them. ( hollowed bamboo sticks, toilet paper rolls, planks of wood, etc. ) it’s also a good craft for the kiddos. get creative & have fun with it!~

hang your bee hotel on a tree, or a high up spot where nothing can disturb it.

make a watering station

image

it’s super duper easy to do, and all you need is a shallow dish and some pretty stones! bees get thirsty, and you’ll be helping them out. especially when it gets real hot out!

plant flowers and herbs

image

not only is gardening fun & therapeutic for you, but the bees appreciate it too. also, you can use the flowers & herbs grown for your craft! bonus!!

here are just a few of their favorite plants:

  • basil
  • mint/catmint
  • rosemary
  • sage
  • yarrow
  • lavender
  • sunflowers
  • poppies
  • asters
  • zinnias
  • salvias
  • marigolds
  • cosmos

…and there’s waaay more! garden to your heart’s content, and watch the magic happen~

don’t use pesticides or harmful chemicals on your lawn or garden

image

this one is pretty self explanatory. if you want a safe environment for your bee friends, try not to use any harsh chemicals on your plants. if you have issues with destructive bugs, use organic methods to shoo the pests away.

here are a few organic alternatives to using pesticide!:

  • eggshells
  • hot peppers
  • tumeric
  • banana and orange peels

here’s a great site if you’d like to read more about it!:

✨sponsor a hive✨

image

last but not least, help out & sponsor a hive! this helps beekeepers, helps teach others about bees, and so much more!

here’s a site if you’re interested and would like to read up on it.:

Review by Jennifer Lawrence.

Choosing – and then having – a totem, or spirit animal, is one of the most ubiquitous experiences in Neopaganism today. It is such a well-known experience that there are even memes about it, where people turn the situation humorous by claiming Bruce Campbell, Chuck Norris, Lady Gaga, Darth Vader, or some other celebrity or fictional character as their spirit animal.

Review by Leslie Linder.

I admit, I was expecting this book to be the usual information about communicating with your magical kitty. While I enjoy that type of material too, Hearth Moon Rising gave a very academic and experiential accounting of several types of animals that I might not have thought of on my own. The book offers an in-depth study of nine animals: snake, bat, mouse, bear, owl, toad, spider, rabbit/hare, and dog/wolf. Surprised by some of them? I was. She also touches on other animals and insects of all sorts —including the noble cockroach!
