Okay, so as mentioned yesterday, I’m struggling with my workplace at the moment -or more to the point, the people I work with- and so I’m pulling out all the stops to get through each shift until I can land another job somewhere else. This is a tiny spell jar I made last night, heavily inspired by the lovely @breelandwalker‘s “Banishing Powder”, though as a sort of alternative to scattering.
Contains:
-Black Salt -Cayenne Pepper -Chilli Powder -Egg Shell Powder
All sealed with wax, and kept in a little bag on my person to ward off unwelcome attentions.
(NB - This isn’t great egg shell powder, as you can probably see. It doesn’t help that my pestle and mortar is a bit pants, but remember kids: Always make sure you’ve removed all the egg membrane before making your egg shell powder ^^”)
Oh now this is just DARLING! And what a good idea for folks who can’t go chucking powder willy-nilly in the workplace, too! Well done! :)

I’ve seen people use it in spells, but I’ve never been able to find if it has any specific properties. Just going on instinct, I would presume that it would be great to use for defense, maybe a correspondence to shielding, but any extra information you might have would be lovely. I made my first spell jar! Its purpose is to protect and cleanse my home, or the room it is in. It’s perfect for my dorm, and very easy to make!
Everything inside this jar has some association with protection or cleansing or banishing negativity and creating a loving environment.
What’s Inside: -3 dried bay leaves with various protection and safety sigils drawn on them -sage leaves -mint leaves -rosemary -charged full moon water -sea salt -a pinch of black pepper -some lemon peel -a small piece of clear quartz * I added some chicken bones in there since I’m very connected to the earth, and I feel as though the bones strengthen the spells connection and gives it an extra oomph, but that’s optional.
You can add a chant or any other ingredients that fee right to you. I just told each ingredient its purpose in the jar and charged it with white candles and intent!

This is a throwback to an old spell that uses a lot of sharp items to create a protection jar. Using sharp objects like thumbtacks, pins or broken pieces of glass is a way to create a ‘psychic fence’ so to speak. That way anything negativity coming towards you will be pushed back or deflected by all the sharp objects surrounding your energy field.
What you’ll need
1 clean and cleansed jar (see note on this post on how to cleanse your jar)
Sharp items (Thumbtacks, pins, opened safety pins, needles. If you’re going to use broke glass PLEASE BE CAREFUL)
Add in any protection herbs or crystals if you choose to but I usually skip this step.
Something that binds you to the jar such as fingernail filings or a lock of hair. The original spell asked for drops of blood but that’s a whole different thing if you want to do that. I recommend just using hair because of the risk of infection by cutting yourself.
Cleansing your jar
It’s important to cleanse your jar first and foremost. You can use any jar (Hello salsa and sauce jars!) Clean them out super well. If you are stuck with a smelly jar that has retained a strong odor even after washing out thoroughly you can rinse the jar with vinegar or let it sit overnight. That will usually get rid of any smell.
Once you have cleaned your jar, I simply cleanse it by using incense. Light your incense and let the smoke thoroughly fill up your jar before releasing it into the air.
What to do
Set up your spell with any provisions you would normally use. Light candles, incense, and have any crystals out that you feel connect you to your magic. Protect your space by imagining a white light in a circle around you encasing the jar and sharp objects inside.
Place each object inside until your jar is at least ¼ to ½ of the way full. Last, add a lock of hair or item that you chose to bind this jar to you.
Once everything is inside, close the jar. If you want to seal the jar with wax you can take a candle and drip wax on top of the jar or on the sides letting the wax drop down into the seal.
Close your spell and release your circle.
Take your jar and hide it in a dark place where no one will find it.

I’ve only ever really had to use this spell once a long time ago. A family member had recently gotten into a bad marriage. It wasn’t physically abusive, but it was mentally and emotionally manipulating. The spouse was pulling apart relationships and isolating in typical narcissistic fashion. He was controlling and all around a really bad guy. I usually like to stay out of other people’s affairs, but in this case they had stopped by and I did not have a positive experience with them. It wasn’t that they did anything horribly wrong, I just didn’t like what they said or their vibe and I felt like they wanted to drag my immediate family into their rabbit hole-hot mess of a situation. So once they were gone I immediately went to work on this super simple but effective spell.
Like I said this is a super simple spell. All you need is a lock of hair from the person you want to stay away (your target) and a broom. A kitchen broom will work fine, it’s just for metaphorical purposes. If you can’t get a lock of hair that’s ok, you can still perform this spell.
Take your broom and start with where the person sat, sweep all around in that area. If you have carpet sweep above the carpet. You’re going for the energy here, not really any actual dirt. Sweep in really vigorous motion getting up all of their nasty energy and move in the direction of your door. Keep sweeping. When you get to your front door, open it. Drop the lock of hair on the floor outside your door and sweep it outside along with all the energy you have gathered. Make sure to say the person’s name and that they are not welcomed back. Slam the door and lock it.
That’s it!
As far as the couple I had originally performed the spell for I never saw the spouse ever again and they never came back.
This is my protection spell Jar, that I’ve put together with the things I currently had on hand, you can change this spell to work for you. All items and tools were cleansed and charged.
War water causes hex but it also repels and remove them. Add war water to your bath water and soak yourself with the water as you focus upon your desires. Do this once a week.
This will help to remove all negative energy/hex upon you and keep you open to receive good things and no more obsactles this year.

Gather cinnamon (ground or stick), nutmeg, pine needle (pine oil works too) , a bay leaf and a penny. Wrap all of these in spider web. It doesn’t have to completely cover it. If you’re using a jar, put everything in the jar, close the lid and melt the candle wax over top. If you’re using a satchel, melt some of the wax over your bundle before placing it in the satchel. Place the jar or satchel in an old purse or wallet for monetary fortune. Carry the jar or satchel with you for an extra boost of good luck.

Write the person’s name on the paper and roll it in the web. Cut the bundle in half and burn each half separately.
(Note: This spell is meant to help bind the energy between you and the person and sever ties. Be completely sure you want to cut this person from your life before you do this spell.)
Spider web is also a great addition to a number of different spells to bind energy/intent or to even help target the focus of your spell.
Please use caution when adding spider web to hexes and curses. Not only will it bind and focus, but it will also magnify it and make it harder to get rid of, because webs are sticky and hard to get out of.

Let it charge in the sun for an afternoon near your houseplants, in the garden, or even under a favorite tree in the woods. For an extra boost, charge it near a moss agate stone too! Later, seal it with green or white wax and recite:

I came up with this spell jar because I had an offering and I wasn’t sure what to do with the leftovers but hey, they still have strong magick in them since they were an offering so might as well put it to good use!
You will need: -dried orange rind- to represent the sun and lift your spirits -ginger - for passion and added power to your spell -dried dandelion - for wishes -lemon thyme - for courage -sage - for protection and luck -allspice - for courage -ground clove - for prosperity
Layer these ingredients in a jar. Light a red candle and while the candle is burning imagine your intention of courage and strength. Seal the jar with the red wax for courage.
this is a quick spell jar meant for long-term use (a few months). its purpose is as a battery, to charge the room with energy so that you can have access to an energy source. i added a productivity sigil to transmute the energies passing through the jar into productive energy. it’s perfect for days when you have no spoons but still need to get stuff done!
Ingredients:
sea salt [as a desiccant and an energy source]
heather blossoms [for perseverance]
black tea leaves [for energy]
dried rosemary [for improved memory and concentration]
a sprig from a pine tree [for resilience and inner strength]
clear quartz [for energy transmitting], flourite [for concentration and productivity], and tigers eye [for determination and hard work]
a suitable small jar with a lid
[remember to use dried herbs and flowers as this spell jar will be sealed and is for long term use]
start by combining the sea salt with the dried heather blossoms - if you don’t have access to heather, you can substitute with thyme blossoms. add a layer of this to the bottom of your jar.
next, add a layer of black tea leaves, you can also use the contents of a tea bag rather than whole leaves. green or black tea would work well.
after this, add a layer of dried rosemary to the top. if you are using home-grown rosemary, break the sprigs up so they make an even layer.
next, draw an energy sigil on a piece of paper, and on the other side draw a productivity sigil. draw these in green or yellow ink. cut the card out so that it fits snugly in the lid of your jar.
take the pine sprig and push it into the jar so that it is standing vertically through the layers.
screw the lid on tightly, and add your crystals either on top of, or around your jar. use your finger or wand to draw circles around the lid of the jar, setting your intention and activating the sigils.
place on a windowsill or shelf, with the crystal points facing inwards towards the room. periodically recharge the jar - either under the moon or with a wand.

I didn’t have much energy, so throughout making this bottle, I just focused on my intent (ie having pleasant dreams, and being well-rested).
Then, just put a desired amount of rosemary and thyme in the bottle, along with your quartz, rose quartz, and amethyst fragments.
Afterwards, I sprinkled some black salt that I made previously (using ink, sigil ashes, and crushed himalayan rock salt), but regular salt would work too.
Lastly, I sealed up the spell and bottle with a white candle/wax.
I personally like to charge it by playing a music box next to it.
Note: I used 9 pieces of fragments in total because of my chinese belief in the number 9, but if that’s far too many for your liking, feel free to just cut down to one each. Also, if you’re less tired than I am, feel free to incorporate a specific sigil with this spell!
It’s that time of year again, spring cleaning! I am trying to go though all of my possessions and only keep what serves a purpose. I have trouble with sentimental attachment, the fear of needing something later, and giving away something I perceive as valuable, so I decided to create a spell to help my spring cleaning effort.
You will need: 1.White salt 2.Jar 3.White paper 4.Black pen 5.Black embroidery thread (or other black string) 6. White candle (birthday candle, tea light, etc.) 7. Scissors (maybe)
Design a sigil that matches your intent. Create a circle of protection around your space, if that is part of your practice. Light the candle and think about what it would look like to have a clean space and what it would feel like to rid yourself of all those things that no longer serve you.
Write your sigil using the black pen on the white paper. If necessary, cut the paper down to size so it will fit in your jar. Fill the jar with a tiny bit of salt. Add the sigil paper. Fill it the rest of the way with salt so that you no longer see the paper. Now say aloud or in your head:
Air, water, flame, and stone, Set me free from things I own. Show me which with purpose for, Haste the rest leave out the door.
End the spell with the spell ending of your choice.
Insert the cork. Extinguish your candle as you see fit. Seal the top with the melted wax. Add a black cord so you can hang it in whatever room you are working on sorting through.
Now go sort through all your things! Hopefully you find it easier to detach yourself from the things you own so you can only keep what truly serves you and find the airy freedom that comes with an uncluttered living space.

So, second spell jar. Pretty cool. I struggle a lot with anxiety so I’m hoping this might help a bit. It’s not a substitute for therapy or medication, which I have, but this won’t hurt. I layered it because sometimes you need to take things in steps when dealing with anxiety, you can’t just rush in all at once.
Ingredients:

-Layer the herbs and the amethyst chips as you see fit. The order listed in the ingredients is the order I put them in, but do what feels right! Add your taglock here as well. Since this spell is for me, I used a strand of my hair. -Seal your bottle with your colored (in my case, pink) candle wax. -Arrange your candles in a circle, with your colored candle at the apex. Prop up your temperance card nearby. (Not too close, don’t want it to catch fire!) Temperance is traditionally the card of healing. -Arrange your crystals in a circle around your candle circle. -Put your spell jar in the center of the circle. -Light the candles, starting with your colored candle and working clockwise -Focus your intent for the healing of your (or consenting subject’s) improving health. Let the flames from the candle charge your jar. This can take as much time as you feel appropriate. -Extinguish the candles, starting from the last one you lit and working backwards. -Place the jar in the bedroom of the target!
Hey! I have a spell bottle for attracting love for you guys. Not just used for attracting love to gain a boyfriend or girlfriend, but also love to gain new friends. I tend to get hurt a lot in relationships so I added A LOT of protection ingredients in here. You can lessen the ingredients if needed.

Red(for passion/lust),pink(for love, relationships and affection) and black string (for rid of negativity and protection) twisted together to tie the scroll. It’s easier to tie if you knot all three strings together after being twisted.
And of course, a bottle
Steps
Put in rose quartz chips first then a couple of tiger’s eye chips
Add a scoop or two of sugar
Add in the rosemary
Add a layer of salt
Add some peppermint
Roll up your piece of paper with the sigil on it into a scroll (till it looks like a tube)
Take your twisted strings and tie them around the scroll
Either you can wrap your rose petals around the scroll or you can rip up the rose petals if you’ve run out of room. I add this before hand so you don’t have to fish the scroll out of the bottle.
Add in your scroll
Add in rose petals
Add half a scoop of black pepper and put the cork/lid back on.

If you accidentally added too much to your bottle (it’s okay, I did too :p), I’d recommend you rip the petals up if you haven’t done so or you can wrap the scroll in the petals to make it fit. 8.) Use this inctation while pumping your energy and intent into the bottle and the ingredients inside by holding the bottle in your hands. I magine the bottle glowing as you fill it with your energy: Anytime version – “[Fill in deity/energy source], help me out with this spell today, So my negative thoughts are at bay. Hold positive thoughts in my mind and ear With self love that will be held dear. Blessed be.” Night time version – “[Fill in deity/energy source], help me out tonight So my negative thoughts are replaced with (your) light. Hold positive thoughts in my mind and ear With self love that will be held dear. Blessed be.”
You did it! You now have a spell jar for self-love! You can switch up this spell any way you want so you’re comfortable, need alternatives to ingredients you don’t have, etc. Lots of love and blessed be!!
Spell jars are very easy to make! Especially since you’ve already got a lot of ingredients in your home or backyard already. It’s all about personalizing. You don’t have to follow a recipe exactly either. You can make a spell jar unique, just for you! Here are some ways to personalize your new jar:

Spell jar purposes vary. You are basically keeping the magic concentrated and preventing anything from escaping before the spell is complete. Traveling is another great reason to make a jar. You can take it everyhwere with you or sleep with it under your pillow, place it on your fireplace, in your cabinet, or put it on a chain and hang it in your car.

If you’re like me and suffer from mental health issues, (BPD, Depression and Depressive Anxiety) we all know how hard it is to take that step for Self-Care. Once you do, it feels amazing! I promise.

It may seem selfish to take a few extra minutes to yourself, but sometimes we need to in order to function. Here are a few things you can try that doesn’t take much effort:
I am a huge advocate for Spell Jars. If you struggle with finding “me” time, make a spell jar and carry it with out to radiate self-love at all times so you ever forget how special you are. Here are some examples, but keep in mind you are not limited to these ingredients, nor do you have to do it in any order. Just be clear with your intention and personalization!
I personally always say a chant as a I seal my jars. Try this if you choose that feels right to you:
Please take everything I say at face value, do your own research on the topics I’ve presented. What works for me may not work for you. You can substitute or subtract pretty much anything as long as it’s not a major component in a spell.
