Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” (1484–1486)
with deepest apologies to sandro botticelli
sometimes an idea arrives and you can’t sleep until it’s out, okay.
I’m feeling a sudden burst of un-asked-for art criticism.
The Birth of Venus by Botticelli 3/10 The guys on the left look like they’re dangling from a harness instead of floating/flying; the scenery is oddly stylized even though the figure are pretty realistic, Venus appears to have two separate heads of hair, and the gal on the right is fully clothed while everyone else is nude/draped. Just never liked it. Bonus points for the scallop shell, tho, it’s great.
Where is Everybody? by José M. Ballester 8/10 Better in every way without the human figures. Very calm scene, still a magnificent scallop shell.
Wh - what can I say? 12/10. Sublime perfection.
[the image came from a site with tons of Muppetized classic art that I can no longer find to save my soul, but this can also be found of the muppet wiki.]
Haven’t posted in a really long time. Got married and went to Italy over the summer. It was the best experience of my life. Saw some amazing art I will never forget.
