I do not know what keeps you from returning to the High Court – whether it is vexation with me, having spent time in the mortal world, you have come to believe that a life free of the Folk is better than one ruling over them. In my most wretched hours, I believe you will never come back. Why would you, save for your ambition? You have always known exactly what I am and seen all my failings, all my weaknesses and scars. I flattered myself that at moments you have feelings for me other than contempt, but even where that true, they would make but a thin gruel beside the feast of your other, great desires. Jude: Did you know that technically atoms never touch each other? Since we’re made out of atoms and since blades are made out of atoms, we’ve never actually touched anything in our entire lives. So to answer your question, Cardan. No, I did not kill that person.
okay i loved loved loved the folk of air series and seriously cannot fault much but did it leave anyone else just like… wanting a lot more?
that’s probs a sign of how good it was but like also… jurdan were so slow burn that we didn’t see much of them actually together; we didn’t get to see heather get back her memories and taryn was giving absolutely NOTHING as per usual.

Here it is! Part 1 of a new parody series of illustrations themed as Jude in Wonderland! Ever since book 1 of The Folk of the Air, I had always loved the symbolism of Cardan considering Jude the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ of Elfhame.
I thought it would be fun to re-imagine these characters in the roles of the classic tale, but with a TFOTA twist. This first illustration has Alice!Jude meeting Cheshire!Cardan. And yes, Cardan has cat ears! I thought these two paired nicely with this iconic exchange:
… said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” “How do you know I’m mad?“ said Alice. "You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”
I’ve mentioned before how I found Cardan so closely aligned with Cheshire - clever with his words, no alliances, disappears with a grin. This exchange just solidified it for me.
I went HAM on this environment here, which I normally don’t enjoy doing. But by combining it with some Gustav Klimt-inspired textures, I had a little bit more passion fueling my pursuit at creating a Wonderland / Elfhame landscape. I have two more of these illustration planned with this parody crossover; so stay tuned!
