@ 15: Poor Phantom, Christine should have stayed with him.
@ 21: I’m glad Christine married Raul.
@ 32, happily married, with a kid and seen enough abusive relationships:
Geez lady, forget those two wastrels of men and find yourself a Piangi! He may be married to an obnoxious woman, but at least he stands by her and tries to support her advancement in her chosen career.
Welcome to the blog dedicated to my webcomic, A Ghost on the Roof!
It is a story loosely based on the novel The Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, set in modern times.
After I post the first pages of chapter one on September 1st, I will continue to post one page a week, on Sundays. Of course, if life gets in the way the updates may be delayed but I am determined to keep posting regularly. For information, the whole story is 18 chapters long.
I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoyed creating it, and that you will follow me on this journey!
My Phantom of the opera inspired webcomic is finally available on Webtoon! Click here to read ✨
I’ll keep posting regularly on tumblr but I know that for some people using webtoon is easier :) It would mean a lot if you’d check out the webtoon version tho!
Thanks a lot for the support I’ve received since I started this project, I hope you’ll stick around for more Also don’t hesitate to comment or send asks! I highly value your feedback haha
A little something to wish everyone happy holidays, wether you celebrate Christmas or not :)
Thank you so much to all my followers, old and new, your support throughout these past 2 years on tumblr means a lot to me. I’ve grown so much as an artist and as a person, and I think having shared my art on social media kinda helped me in the process, thanks to your feedback and encouragement. <3
I also want to thank you for your interest in my webcomic, A ghost on the roof, and I hope you will stick with me on this journey, because your comments truly make my day !
…So I was reading Phantom of the opera… I don’t know whether to despise Erik or pity him. Yes I know he killed people and kidnapped others… but-but he had a tough life… he just wanted to be normal. In the end, all he craved was normalcy and the love he’d never received.
That book was a tragedy and no one can convince me otherwise.
Probably the very first two painting I did for the PotO project to see if I can capture the mood of the character with a painting. I originally looked into a lot of Mead Schaeffer’s paintings as reference for the whole project so thought I might as well do paintings that clearly shows what paintings I was basing off of. I later grabbed more movie screenshots(mainly for lighting and staging purpose) for reference and looked less into Mead Schaeffer.
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA #4 PROCESS SKETCHES: CHRISTINE DAAE
Christine’s ultimate role in the story is being the ‘damsel in distress’, who decides to stand up and face the man she fears and loves the most in the end. I thought of her as a butterfly of the opera (more of it shows in her room design) and a fragile but beautiful porcelain doll. She is always in fear of a man or angel she herself is confused if she thinks of him as a father or a teacher, or is he just a murderer. I tried to give her nervous eyes that would be keep looking around for what she fears and kept her hand gestures contained within her silhouette to show her shyness.
I actually hoped I had more time spent on characters to really draw them on point.. but you always have to be reasonable with the time you have. Next post will be the last character process sketch of Raoul and Dusty..I will be moving on to paintings and set design after that:)
