This was painted over an older painting. It’s nice to work into paint that’s dry sometimes, to get clean unmixed layers happening. I don’t experience this often because I like to finish a painting as fast as I can. There was something about the person in the last painting that I liked so I wanted to paint a full portrait of him. When I put the mustache on him it kind of looked like Prince to me.
