YOU DIDN’T THINK I’D MISS TAKING A SELFIE + SHELFIE WHEN I FINALLY HAVE A DECENT MINI-LIBRARY IN MY BEDROOM NOW, RIGHT?
Of course not. But to give this photo an excuse for a good purpose, here’s my current read: the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I’m 700 pages in and enjoying it! Theo Decker is a wonderfully flawed (albeit unlikable) character and I’m captivated by the way he handles the slew of thoughts and memories in his head. It gives the narration a very real feel to it, almost as if the text is part of a transcript of some obsessed kid’s free-flowing thoughts.
The book’s a big doorstopper, though, and I could only plough through it slowly because I’ve got just my shuttle bus rides to work and an hour before bedtime as my reading time these days. :(

People who prefer the secret history: Yes we have Henry who is from St. Louis and spends his time writing his diary in Latin and plotting how to murder his annoying friend, Frances the red headed homosexual whose grandparents raised him and his mother as siblings and has been going for both Charles and Richard while being a huge bitch, Camilla the orphan of course who looks like a medieval painting and may or may not be in an incestuous relationship with her twin brother…..

Donna Tartt is just like “here, have a book that makes you fall back in love with life and the human experience again” and I, like a baby bird with its mouth agape, swallow it whole every time.

guess a book by description dark academia edition: group of people, some of them are friends, some of them are enemies, some of them are both at once, most of them are from rich families even if they don’t interact with their parents, one of them isn’t sure they have a right to be here, found family trope but in the fucked up way, a lot of subtex, homoerotic included, murder and suicide, mystery and intrigues, great language and atmosphere
