Idk if the Paleostreams by Joschua Knüppe have much presence on here, but they’re basically Twitch streams where people draw & chat about extinct animals and paleoart together.

Here are some drawings I did yesterday and then made a lot prettier. Animals from top to bottom are:

Edops (attempting to mate)

Utahraptor (preening on a rock)

Ebrachosuchus

Some digitally-colored pencil sketches I did in the past week.

The Halszkaraptor’s colors are taken straight from a Spotted Shag (a species of cormorant) and the Albertosaurus is based on pieces by the artist @Toarcian on Twitter.

More colored old sketches from school notebooks.

If you’re wondering where all the raptor designs are from, someone asked me to sketch some ideas for a lacrosse team logo. Someone else came up with the actual design, but I still like these.

Another batch of old sketches while you wait for another overly-elaborate Pokemon. Coloring this up took some time that I could have used to make more progress on said Pokemon, but I love coloring sketches like this.

Hope you enjoy!

TwoDromaeosaurus fight over a small mammal found in the snow. The one on the right is way more concerned with the mammal than the fight and that’s probably a bad thing.

I’m pretty happy with this and the piece for yesterday for pulling a twofer.

Dinovember is finally here and I’m hoping this will be a strong start to the month!

Here are some Achelousaurus engaging in intraspecific combat while a Bambiraptor realizes it probably should have left like 5 minutes ago. Perspective is hard and I totally made the rightAchelousaurus’ head too big, but that just happens sometimes.

If anyone else is following along with my challenge, I’d love to see what you make!

I don’t know if the JW movies put people off the term “hybrid”, but I felt like mashing up two dinos today and this ended up being a cool pair to do it.

Deinonychus and Dilophosaurus are really similar when you think about it. This almost seems like some primitive dromaeosaur whose fossils would turn up in the next few years.

Buitreraptor gonzalezorum in some wonderful blue-green garb.

Wanted to give to some vivid colors that still fit its likely ecology, so I based the coloration on different species of heron. At least I believe piscivory is likely for dinos like AustroraptorandUnenlagia.

Deinonychus pair in the swamps, by Mark Witton|Print :

“(…) The Early Cretaceous dromaeosaur Deinonychushas been restored so many times that it’s difficult to come at it from a fresh angle. I thought one way to do that was to not show it on open plains, but in a backswamp. (…) The arms of the foreground animal are pressed tight to the body in the manner proposed by palaeoartistic Queen of the maniraptorans, Emily Willoughby, rather than held half-folded as we’re more used to seeing them. As Emily explains, there is good reason to think the ‘arms out’ postures we’re used to is nonsensical - animals just don’t carry themselves like that” Keep reading

i asked the palaeoblr server for some animals to draw that get the short end of the stick when it comes to accurate, non-shrink wrapped reconstructions, and here are two of the three species i was suggested: sinornithosaurusandpostosuchus

ewilloughby:

After months of eager waiting I can finally share this… meet Dakotaraptor, the giant dromaeosaur from Hell Creek! This is the first giant raptor known from this formation, and—more significantly, in my view—the first giant raptor with robust, obvious, unmistakable quill knobs. At over 16 feet in length, this magnificent fellow was in the upper size range for Utahraptor, though very differently proportioned: where Utahraptor is stout and muscular, Dakota was lanky and lithe, like a scaled-up Deinonychus. Here I’ve shown it alongside the early shorebird Cimolopteryx for scale.

This is the first of two major illustrations I’ve done for the study. Don’t want to overwhelm everyone at once, so I’ll hold off on the other for a day or so.

Read the paper here!

Now excuse me while I climb to the top of a mountain and shout to the heavens… yes, we now have proof that large dromaeosaurs were feathered. Deal with it.

Prehistoric Planet Episode 4 - Ice Worlds

This was my favorite episode so far, what with the goofy bandit Ornithomimus, adorable baby Olorotitans, and the awesome Pachyrhinosaurus/Nanuqsaurus standoff. The real star of the show, however, was the Pyromaniac Troodontid.

While not as famous as its relatives Velociraptor and Deinonychus, Dromaeosaurus albertensis still bears the honor of being the type species for the whole Dromaeosauridae family. Discovered in 1914, it is still not very well known from actual fossils, only having been assembled recently using reference from other more well known dromaeosaurids.

Dromaeosaurus was of a similar size to Velociraptor (at 2 m [6 ft 7 in] long), but was more heavily built. Due to the scarcity of its fossils, it was likely very rare in its habitat of Late Cretaceous Canada. Its teeth tend to be heavily worn, suggesting it would have crushed and pulled at flesh. Dromaeosaurus’ bite force was also much stronger than that of Velociraptors and it would have included bone in its diet.

New year, new velociraptor. New year, new velociraptor. New year, new velociraptor.

New year, new velociraptor.
