“The 50 Yard Dash” (2015)

This quirky and silly mockumentary, starring two-time Silver Fox Award winner Kaitlyn Murphy, follows a day in the lives of twenty-something undergraduates. With graduation quickly approaching, college roommates and best friends Lauren and Allie must come to terms with their post-grad lives going in opposite directions. Directed by Rachael Black and Devin Barbaro, this short film explores the pressure and emotions of four years of college coming to a close, reminding us that the most important thing we’ll take away from our higher education is the memories we’ve made.

The newest iteration of Star Trek will center around a female lead! Showrunner Bryan Fuller made the announcement last week about Star Trek: Discovery which airs on CBS in 2017. Industry insiders speculate the lead may be a woman of color.

Author Carly Lane is cautiously excited about this announcement: “While there are certainly examples of competent, level-headed women within its universe, there are also a significant number who fit the common tropes of the overly hysterical woman or the cold-hearted Strong Female Character, and there are more who simply serve as plot devices to fuel the development of Kirk, Spock, and other men.”

Where are the women? Where are the women who are leading and not just the hot sex symbol in the tight outfits, or the aggressive ones with their sexy action sequences? Where are the ones that are battling with their own identity like Iron Man is? Or trying to make a difference in the forefront? There were a couple of articles that the producer of the Agent Carter one-shot sent me last month about that very question. Journalists were going, ‘Where are these women?’ and, ‘We want them, we actually want them.’ - Hayley Atwell (x)
